"Travel awards are a gimmick - they end up charging you enormous fees"
I attempted to book a flight from Minneapolis to Savannah. Airline websites averaged around $300. These people found a flight for me - lowest available fare - and it was over $400 (30 days advance notice). They get to charge you for anything over $400 and then there's the service fees of $55 per ticket. Because I complained for about 2 minutes, the women then stated that my ticket was no longer available and the price had gone up and it was now going to cost me over $200 in fees for two tickets. They have scripted lines for every objection you can make and if you complain, they make it worse. It is a bait and switch. I'm switching cards.

"AOPA Cards now not competive "
With the anounced change in the AOPA card that will do away with the 5% rebate, the AOPA card will now have much competition from other gas cards like Air-BP which does offer a good rebate.

"Pay close attention to your MBNA statement"
My wife and I obtained a MBNA visa card while we were in college. It was a good deal at the time,
with a low interest rate and high limit. Because of this we used our MBNA card instead of our other higher interest cards to pay for tuition and other expenses that we were unable to afford with our income and student loans. After graduation, we chose to pay off other debts (some of which we trasferred to MBNA), which had higher interest rates. Recently, although we have always paid at least the minimum due each month, we were notified that our interest rate had been raised from 10.9% to 19.9%. No explanation was given, and the rate increase was hidden in a small slip of paper enclosed with our statement. Had I not been careful, I would have thrown it away and not even noticed as our credit card statements are often filled with plenty of promotional material etc. that we are not the least bit interested in. Careful review revealed that we could refuse the higher rate by placing a refusal in writing.I called to find out if we could close our account (we hadn't used this card since graduation two years ago) and keep the lower interest rate and I was told I could not. I had to keep the account open so that any additional charges (late fees etc.) would allow them to raise the interest rate to the higher amount. I will be watching my statements very closely from now on. |
