"PISSSED OFF"
I cannot even put into words how I feel - basically what 2/22/10 said - is my story too! I have had this credit card for quite a few years - NEVER been late, paid off my balance of 20,000 last year still carry a balance, they raised my rate, I do not remember a letter - I called to inquire and basically they said they could do nothing - nothing after years of being a customer - WOW!!!! I canceled my card with a few choice words in between. Citibank can so (you fill in the blank)

"Stay away from ATT Universal Card"
I have had an ATT Universal card for 10 years. I have used this card to finance large purchases and have paid the card off twice in 10 years. I currently have a balance of approximately $3,600.00. In the last 10 years I have never been late with a payment, and I have always paid way over the minimum monthly payment.
In January of 2009 my interest rate was raised from 7.99% to 19.99% for new purchases. I called customer service and complained. The customer service representative lowered my interest rate back down to 7.99%.
On November 12, 2009 I received written notice from Citibank that the terms of service on my AT&T Universal credit card were being changed again. The letter stated under the new terms of service would become effective December 29, 2009 and then my interest rate would increase to 14.99%. I was also informed that I had until December 28, 2009 to contact Citibank should I decide to Opt Out of the new terms and pay my account under my old lower interest rate at 7.99%. I phoned Citibank on November 24, 2009 and told the customer representative that I wished to Opt Out of the new terms of service and that I would like a letter of confirmation stating that I had Opted Out of the new terms of service. A few days later I received a letter from Citibank dated November 25, 2009 confirming that I had chosen to Opt Out of the new change in terms of service under my credit card agreement. A few days ago I received my AT&T Universal credit card statement in the mail. I looked the statement over and I noticed that my interest rate is set at 10.720%. Why was my rate raised from 7.99% after I Opted Out? Since I did Opt Out of the new terms within the stated time limits stated in the letter dated November 12, 2009, it was my understanding that my account would be closed when I Opted Out and I could then continue to repay the balance on my credit card under the current terms which were 7.99%.
I contacted Customer Service again and told them that my interest rate after Opting Out should be 7.99% instead of to 10.720% which was what was now showing up on my statement that is due on 01/11/2010. I was told that my account would be reviewed and I would receive an email informing me of their decision.
Two days later I received the following email response:
"Our records indicate the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for purchases on this account is currently at 10.72%. Our records do not indicate your account had a 7.99% interest rate. Our records indicate 10.72 was the interest rate when you chose to opt out of the change in terms.
We received your request to lower the APR on your account. At this time, your account has the lowest rate available. If you have further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us."
I contacted Customer Service again but they would not budge on the APR rate increase and put my interest back at 7.99% after Opting Out of the change in Terms of Agreement. I was told I could pay the account off at the 10.720% APR.
I contacted Customer Service again but they would not budge on the APR rate increase and put my interest back at 7.99% after Opting Out of the change in Terms of Agreement. I was told I could pay the account off at the 10.720% APR. I also told Customer Service that I was cutting up the card immediately and they could close the account. I informed them that I would pay the card off within the next several months with $400 monthly payments and then I would never have a CitiBank credit card in my possession again. Stay away from any credit card from CitiBank. I also had another credit card from Citibank with no balance on it and they raised that rate from 14.00% to 19.99%. |

Most attractive feature: There are no good features to this card unless you like HIGH APR rates.

"Watch out!"
I had a rate of 7.99, opted out a year and a half ago. I paid every month online everything was fine, they posted payment one day late and started charging 29%, my fault for not paying attention, I now owe more than my balance started.

"Bad Choice"
Don't deal with Citi-at all-any card. I had a phenomenol rate and a great paymeny history. Like the others on this site, I had my rates jacked up by Citi. THe rep I spoke with said they were raising interst rates across the board for all customers, regardless of crdit score or payment history. I'd been a customer since 1990. I canceled my card. If you need a loan, I'm sure the mob could give you a better rate than Citi.

"Stay away from AT&T Universal Card"
They tripled my interest rate with very little notice. I had never been late with a payment. Their customer service is worthless.

"Tripling of Costs/Do Not Recommend"
I just received a notice that, although my payment history is exceptional, the rate on the ATT Universal card was being raised to 29.99 + the current Libor rate. What this means is that the promo rate I had of 7.90 is being changed (which was a balance transfer of $2K. I owe next to nothing and barely used the card since 2001. The balance AND new purchases would be in effect Dec 29, 2009 unless I opted out and canceled the card. I have done so. I spoke with a customer rep for the sake of doing so and and asked direct questions since the "business reasons" explanation on the letter I received was vague. I was told that the increase was not related to my credit score, balance frequency of usage or late payments (of which none existed). It was simply due to "operating costs). I cannot imagine using or recommending this card to anyone based on their unilateral disregard for loyal card users as well as the ridiculous interest rates. It should be noted that this organization accepted "bail-out" money and they need to pay it back. On our dime, it appears.

Most attractive feature: Nothing special.
Least attractive feature: Tripling the rate from a promo rate of 7.9 to 29.9.

"Other Cards with Virtual Numbers?"
Has anyone identified a credit card that can offer virtual numbers (set/change both credit limit & duration) of Citi/Universal Card? That's the one feature I can't live without (and would have dropped AT&T Universal Card 3 years ago if I had alternative).

"DON'T USE ATT"
What we all need to do is cancel our cards. There are plenty out there. Then we need to contact our congressmen and let them know what's going on, or our states attorney general. I have been a customer for over 20 years. Last month they raised my interest to 29.99% The libor rate is less than 0.5% so they are looking at over 29.50% pure profit. When I called to close my account, I reaced India! Took 5 minutes to get a domestic operator. When I started receiving their letters telling me I needed to come back, I called to tell them to send the bill only. I reached the Philipines! When I told the person I couldn't understand her, she told me to "listen closer". We all need to start complaining, and I don't mean to ATT, they don't care, don't use them. If I can say that after 24 years, don't think they'll be better to you.

Most attractive feature: It used to be customer service...now they're rude
Least attractive feature: After getting billions of tax dollars, you now reach India or Philipines customer service

"Did not send a statement"
I had an AT&T Universal card since 2001. I always paid my account in full. They failed to send a statement one month, so needless to say I did not pay my bill. Two weeks later they I received a call from them about payment. I paid the full balance on the spot. My interest rate still went up to 26 percent. It looks as though this is their way of repaying their TARP money. DO NOT trust this company.
