"dissatisfied customer"
I held this card for several years. After retirement I attempted to pay it off with a debt reduction company. After 5 years I got a notice today that they are sending me to court to collect monies due. I have never had any contact with Citibank or ATT gold card during the last 3 years

"CITIBank/AT&T Universal Card Morally Dead!"
I have had my AT&T Universal card for 10 years. No late payments and interest was around 4.9% in the beginning, later raised to around 7.9%. After Citibank aquired this card it is run for your life customers! I was one day late and my interst rate is now 25.99%. S. Larson in customer service refuses to help me. Customer service lies on the telephone. Say to call them back in 48 hrs. Then you get an e-mail from the coward heinas that nothing they can do. Customers don't use this card. Citigroup took millions of our taxpayers dollars and then turn around and slap you right in the face and laugh while the bigwigs get bonuses. They are simply crooks. Legal Crooks. So sad. They have no morals at all. Sure don't want to be them on judgement day.

Most attractive feature: Before CitiBank aquired AT&T Universal Card I was happy. Now I am SICK!
Least attractive feature: Nothing at all good about this card.

"Will not let me pay card bal off without charging me 14.95"
I signed up for on line payment then it said I had to wait 6 business days before making payments. Then when I called to make a payment ( pay balance off) they wanted to charge $14.95. They kept saying.. your payment is not due. I said I know but why can't I pay this off now while I can?It seemed to me they want you to be late..so they can hike up the fees. I'm closing this account at the end of the expiraton date.

"Poor Card"
I have had this card for three years. I have never been late or missed a payment. Last month I looked at the interest and it had gone from 12.9% interest to 19.99%. They claim I have too much debt so they raised my rates. I could see if I had ever been late but I have never been late or missed a payment on any card or account I have. I feel these is very detrimental to my ability to pay this bill. It is as though they want you to go bankrupt. I called to protest and they said I could do nothing about it. I will never use this card again.

"Hostile, belligerent, unaccommodating, cutthroat"
15 year Universal Card customer with a credit score of 787. Generally an acceptable card when managed by AT&T but has become increasingly customer-unfriendly in the last three years or so.

After a flawless 100% repayment record for many years, like a few other customers I ran into a couple of small issues which resulted in two payments spaced 10 months apart being applied late by between 24/48 hours. Yikes! You'd think I'd robbed their bank!

Pow! Late fees! Zap! Extraordinairy interest rates! Ooof! Abusive customer service!

To avoid the belligerent arrogance of their customer "service" department, I have turned to their on-line pay service as a means of avoiding them altogether. Subsequently, everything has been fine - but it feels more like an uneasy truce more than a functional business relationship.

Why do I stay? My credit score is excellent - I could have my choice of credit cards, right? Yes - I'm fortunate, I have lots of credit choices. I like the no-fee part of the card and because I strictly discipline myself to NEVER carry a balance past the monthly due date, regardless of their gouging interest rate du jour, I never owe them a penny in interest or fees.

So in the end it all kinds of works: I despise them but I do business with them because the card is cost-free (as long as I retain my zero balance at the end of each billing cycle).

However, I empathize with other posts here: woe betide those of you who might (gasp) end up not completely paying off their monthly balance. Expose yourself in this way to this organization and you will see the other side of this particular Jekyll and Hyde: greedy, hostile, belligerent, unacommodating and just good old-fashioned rude.

This credit company (like many others) simply amazes me; when you and I are earning about 1% interest or less on our bank deposit accounts and paying about 5% for our home loans, Universal Card Services has no problem charging you 24% interest to borrow their money. Capitalism - ya gotta love it!!

"Due Date"
I have had the AT&T Universal Card for 5 yeas now. At any opportunity they will rais your interest rate. Example: I challenged a credit report entry (not theirs) and they raised my rate from 9.9 to 24%. Then several times my on-line payment did not get posted until after the due date. The interest rate was raised again. Each time I had to call. I have never been over 15 days late on this card. My credi in in the 700. This is a horrible card. And I would happily participate in any class action law suit against this card

"Terrible customer service sinc Citicorp purchased.Customer abuse practiced"
I have had the card since it started over 10 years ago.Service was great.Intrest medium but not bad. After Citicorp purchased service actually grew abusive. They made an unauthorised, unlawfull credit check. They increased my intrest rate by over 4% due to unknown information. I have a near perfect payment record with them.I have a copy of my credit and its not bad. They refuse to correct the situation. In addition they can take more than 2 weeks after recipt of a payment before they can locate it.This happens with checks sent buy my bank.My checks all come from the bank directly to the creditors. Only Citicorp has this problem. Untill they locate the check they insist that it never arrived and proceed with collection assuming I am a deadbeat. They will refund the late charge. They consider it a delinquency even though they did recieve the checks on time unless I call to complain.

"Not Nice @ All !"
I have been hit with a bit of bad luck & have turned other credit cards over to a credit counseling agency to consolidate & help with lowering my intrest & payments. As soon as Citi found this out the immediately raised my intrest rate from 9% to 24.99% !! They refuse to work with me to lower my rate to help me out ! So I guess when I file bankruptcy now instead of them getting anything they'll get nothing ! GOOD 4 THEM !

"This card is HORRIBLE"
I was a member since the card was first issued, but I was a student, so I moved a lot. Never a problem - until Citibank became involved. Not only did they cut my limit and charge me ridiculous late fees and charges, but then when the bill was disputed, they charged me interest upon the interest on the disputed debt! To make matters worse, if you call for "customer service" but have an allegedly past due balance, you will be automatically routed to "collections" where they will, quite literally, threaten you until you succumb to paying at least some portion of the bill over the telephone! A totally surreal experience! They "collections agent" even threatened to "make sure I'd never get credit again." I am very afraid....

" They sneak the “Low APR Fixed rate” up little by little then…"
Reading all the stories about A T & T Universal card, I can see that I am not the only person with a grievance. I thought it was only me, but reading many stories, we all have the same thing is common.

Shockingly A T & T Universal card raise my rate out of the blue after they did not receive my 2 letters?!
I have been a customer of AT & T on and off for probably 10 years, and always pay my bills on time, every time.
Last summer my wife and I went on a long 1-month vacation to Europe for 30 days.
I understand that the payments are due 5-7 days before the due date. But this was a one time 30 day overseas holiday, I thought AT & T would be more flexible since I have had outstanding credit and payment history for many years.

I sent A T & T Universal card 2 notices (two months ahead of time to inform of my plans) one in the May statement and another in the June payment, stating the following.

“April 2, 2002 & May 2, 2002
Dear AT & T Universal card,

I will be in Europe for 30 days, from June 12th to July 12th. Because I will not be able to receive my monthly statements to mail, Could you please send me the July due statement along with the June statements, as I can send it in the payment from Europe. Otherwise be advised my payment will be sent approximately two weeks late as soon as I return on July 13th.”

I am an honest person, and go way out of my way to make an effort if Any bills could be late on a one time basis. I also sent similar notes with the payment to my other creditors informing them of my out of the country status for 30 days, they all replied with flexibility and understanding, no penalties no APR Increase, except one, guess who? You guess it “AT&T”.

Upon returning I called A T & T Universal card to make my payment over the phone, to assure the quickest payment. The next months statement, I saw that my APR went up by an Unbelievable + 8.34%!! (My other card is lower than “AT&T” increased penalty rate!)

I called a customer service representative 6 months ago after I saw that my interest rate sky rocketed, I told her that I sent AT&T two notices one on each month leading up to my vacation informing AT&T of my 30 day vacation. She said that a “Computer” or “Machine” opens up the bills and the note was thrown away and they didn’t receive it, and there is nothing you can do for 6 months. So basically what the customer service lady said, “We are screwing you and there is nothing we can do about it, for 6 months” Now it is going on the 7th month. And the rate is still at an unbelievable 24.74%? That doesn’t say much for AT&T customer relations, or personal interaction!

Since there is a similar pattern with A T & T Universal card customers, is there any criminal investigations being conducted about this company similar to Enron or Arthur Anderson for fraud, or a possible class action law suit pending. Because this sure smells fishy to me too.
