"Consider this card only if you're prepared to expend peak miles"
I had been happy with Alaska/Horizon's BOA Visa until later in 2005. I suddenly find that it is impossible to book a flight for nearly 6 months out without expending twice the points I'd always expended previously. (Used to be 20,000 within the contiguous 48; now is 40,000 for up to six months out). Since I have had friends on many of these flights where "no 'saver' point are available," I know that many of the flights are NOT full; clearly they could make m ore room for "saver tickets" as they did in the past if they chose to. This recent, unexpected change in in policy has ruined what had previously been a very workable mileage plan. I now find the mileage plan basically full of hassles and, for the $75 annual fee I pay, nowhere near as attractive as the rewards offered with other plans. Horizon Air is going to lose me as a customer, not just with frequent flyer miles, but for the paid flights. Other than the "standard cockroach letter," they have been very unhelpful when approached, as have their partners at Bank of America.

Most attractive feature: used to be travel rewards

"BofA -> Out to get your $$$"
I have two issues with BofA:
1) Fraudulent charge on my card. Sent mail to customer service (via their website) three times. Finally was mailed a paper copy of the "transaction detail" and told I might want to contact the vendor. The vendor is EBAY INTL AG - AU. Obviously someone bought something on Ebay and used my card. BofA has yet to even investigate or freeze the charge - lame
2) Finance Charges. I pay the bill in full each month usually between $5,000 - $8,000. It turns out that they sometimes schedule your payment due on a weekend day; Sat or Sun. I use online billpay and of course the transactions go through on the next business day. So BofA hits me with a $85 late fee. This has happened twice. I wrote them via their website asking to have the charge removed, and get the standard form reply regarding scheduling payments in advance. I have NEVER had a credit card company so customer unfriendly that they would refuse to remove a charge based on the above scenario. I paid off my credit cards several years ago and am so glad I did! These greedy bastards are all about taking as much of your money as they can and actually employ staff whose entire job is to device clever schemes to shave another nickel from thier customers. Why else would they schedule a payment due on a weekend day? This card just isn't worth the trouble and I'm canceling it. And like several others here; I never received the package containing upgrades and $50 voucher. What a surprise.. |

"Customer Service from B0fA card dept."
My experience is that BofA does not support the customer when it comes to fraudulent attacks on your card that may include their co-partners at fault, NOVA and/or VISA. Is BofA's adjenda to show great records to their president, the Govt., and the public at the expense of its customers? They were brutal on me. And I was hung up on by top execs. twice for no good reason, not given courtesy calls as promised., severely admonished not to speak with the CEO's staff--just to them, and their rebuttal letter to counter my Federal CCI complaint has 15 false statements in 1 1/2 pages! After a long, persistant fight, I had to hire an attorney! (cost never refunded). Immediately my refund was processed--although not fully in accordance with their standard agreements--but I wasn't going to fight it any more. This was a fraud issue that the FBI is handling, but BofA cashed me out as a 'purchase adjustment', and had me sign a forever release against them. Beware of motives and minipulation (even tho little people in the chain are nice). I would catagorize them as a little empire unto themselves. I would therefore hestate in using their arbitration process, which, as I read it, is your only recourse for a dispute now rather than an attorney. CHeck that out. One good thing is that Alaska Airlines recently got their own separate BofA helpers for their Visa customers, which should be a plus, but that doesn't mean you couldn't get squashed by the top dogs. With regret, my card is cancelled, because I loved to fly on Alaska.

Most attractive feature: Alaska Airlines is a great travel partner . Wish they did not use BofA as their partner.
Least attractive feature: BofA credit executives are brutal, dishonest, disrespectful and care only to look good.

"raise them rates !!"
i have had this card less than a year and started out at 9.9%one month i went over my limit by 5.00. i pay on line with bill pay and paid my min payment. the next month due to a charge of 35.00 as an overlimit fee being posted i was over the limit again even after paying the min due from the prior month so was charged another 35.00 and they raised my rate to 27.99%. this will be the next card to go with my tax return refund. if you get this card make sure you stay well under your limit or you will pay the price

"They are out to get you"
I've been with them for 3 years and so far it has been ok. My only gripe is that BOA has poor customer service. They are reluctant to waive a late fee when you know you sent it in a week advance saying they didn't get your check. Also, the companion ticket that you get annually along with the $75 annual fee, you can forget that when you misplace it. My annual was in October and last year I was in the process of moving. they had sent me my companion tickets early and I had left my old address. Well, I never got it forwarded to my new address so, I missed out on the tickets that I look forward to taking vacation every year. When I explained it to BOA, they told me to talk to Alaska Airlines. I went to talk to Alaska Airlines and they directed me back to BOA. No one was willing to help at all. So, when this annual year comes up, You know what I'll be doing. Getting rid of them. The sad thing is... I live in Alaska and I usually travel on Alaska Airlines. Unfortunately, both businesses will lose my business!! Beware of their offer. They are sucking you into more debt than you can imagine. Too many miles to earn just for a ticket! it's not worth it.

"No backup by BOA"
I stay at a Hilton in Oct of 2002. Good stay, my company paid through Expedia.com upfront.
On Oct 30, 2003!!!!!!!! I get billed by the Hilton for the stay!!! Sorry, we paid up front through Expedia, I argue. Why did you let me in the room if I didn't pay?
They say they can't find the proof and since I signed at the front desk (I gave my card at the desk for check in to use the phone, room service, etc) they were entitled to bill me for whatever!
My credit card company agrees! No care that they the Hilton can't produce any proof, just that my signature is on the receipt at the front desk for incidentals!!!!!!! SOME PLATNIUM SERVICE.
Going to small claims for any length of time and at any cost on this one and GOOD BYE BOA!!! Too bad for Alaska Airlines, they are good! |

"Customer Service is Terrible"
I've had several issues where I've required assistance from customer service. I wasted a LOT of time and energy waiting on hold (if I got thru at all), then being transferred to different agents or departments. I had to make SEVERAL contacts to get my problems resolved. I recently cancelled my card because of this.

"Good Card"
This is a great card. My huhsband and I have hard the card for one year, and have earned enough mileage (combined with flights) to take a trip to Scotland. One of their best features is their card protection policy. Quit griping about your card being rejected on trips!! All it takes is one simple phone call to B of A to have the hold lifted. You can even call them before a trip and let them know you'll be on vacation. I am glad that they put a hold on the card (after attempting to contact us), when we were on a recent trip. You may be mad about it now, but you'll surely be happy for this service when some idiot in CA charges $2000 on YOUR credit card, and BofA takes the charges off upon your request. Plus, he'll be caught the next time he tries to use the card.

"Great combo"
This card combines the excellent Mileage program of Alaska Airlines with the convenience of the Bank of America financial services network. The Alaska plan is very flexible in that allows free travel with as few as 20,000 miles, AND it allows travel on its many travel partners. Bank of America is located pretty much everywhere, which allows you to pay your bill on the due date at any of its branches or online right from your checking account. If you live in WA, OR, CA, NV, or AZ, you'll find Alaska Airlines flies nearly anywhere you'd want to go, and you'll find a Bank of America branch and/or ATM on just about every corner.

"It's been good to me"
I've had my Alaska Airlines Platinum card since 2000. Since then, I've earned over 100,000 miles by using it. I really like the card. I've got a great credit limit. I enjoy using the companion ticket and first class upgrades.
One problem I've had is that they continue to pass me by when sending out the companion ticket package. The first time, I had to call their customer service 3 times before they finally sent it out. The second time, after being passed over for a year and a half, I finally went to my B of A branch and talked to a very nice manager. She talked to Alaska Airlines customer service several times on my behalf. Dispite promises that they were being mailed to me, Alaska didn't fulfill. The manager at B of A finally got some promotional companion tickets (3 to be exact) and gave them all to me. B of A's customer service gets an A+++, Alaska's D-. |
