"Advance Ticket Sale Ticket Master Scam"
The advance sales of tickets thru American Express is a total SCAM. Purchased tickets for a Taylor Swift concert that I was assured were the best seats available and would sell out when they went on sale to the public. Didn't realize the majority of tickets are being sold thru the actual venue. One month later - plenty of MUCH better seats available and they will not exchange or refund. Will never purchase thru Amex again after being a customer for over 20 yrs! Too many better options!!!!

"Cancelled my card"
I had the Gold card for 2 years. The last 6 months I ran into serious problems with customer service. I kept paying my full bill and was told a week later I had a balance left over. After paying the supposed leftover balance I would always call back the next day after paying my bill to make sure it wouldn't happen again. Well it did and it kept happening. I was furious because I would call AA 3 different times a day to ask for my monthly balance and would get 3 different amounts. WTF??? I even asked to speak to a Manager who couldn't clarify things for me. I finally paid off my last bill after having to call numerous time, cancelled my card and sent AA an extra $1000 just to make sure they don't hit me with another late fee. They kept sending me my $1000 back but I didn't cash it for 3 months just in case. Worst card ever. My Visa Signature is a breath of fresh air compared to my AA nightmare.
Plus none of my 2 year AA history ever made it to any of the 3 major credit bureaus. Who the hell do they report to?

Took my 59000 points and at least got 2 Jetblue roundtrip tickets to L A.

"Great service"
I've had the American express card since 1977 and have been a Gold Card member since 1983. I had the Platinum card for one year and really didn't use it so I went back to the Gold Card. I really can't say enough about their customer service. Every time I've had a problem with a disputed charge on my bill (which has never been the fault of American Express) they set aside the charges until the problem was rectified. The American Express card has opened doors at banks that nothing else could. When I was young and had excellent credit just not a lot of it, I went into a bank for a small personal loan. The banker asked me about my credit cards. When I showed him an American Express card, he told me, "If you've got an American Express card, your credit is good enough for me because they don't give those things to just anybody." I got the loan and have since always treasured my relationship with American Express.

"Credit Limit Eliminated without Notification"
American Express cut my line even though I had my identity stolen, the fraudelent account was removed from my credit history. I was never asked any questions before the line was eliminated. I have never had a late payment in my entire credit history.

Most attractive feature: Low interest rate
Least attractive feature: No notification given before line is eliminated.

"Ridiculous Credit Limit Decrease - User Beware"
I had two cards an Amex Gold Charge card and an Amex Blue Card. In March of this year, I found out that suddenly my credit limit was halved. I had made a major purchase which I elected to 'carry over' per the terms of the card, which for whatever reason triggered Amex to halve my credit limt on the Gold card!

They said it was the 1st time I had carried a balance which triggered some kind of warning. Never mind that I didn't have any balance on my Blue card, always paid ahead of time and in full every month with this exception.

Why allow card members to carry over a major purchase if that results in a reduction in credit line? Forutnately for me it was the month of my renewal of the Gold card, and I paid off and cancelled it immediately. I will keep my Blue card open and never use it, and in the future I've used my Citibank Diamond card or Chase Platinum card for major purchases.

The benefits aren't worth the shoddy treatment!

"Gold card member for over 15 years"
My wife and I had the Gold card for over 15 years and were told we had a tremendous amount of points that we could use anytime. Last year they told us we had again a tremendous amount of points. We went online to check what we could get with the points. we were excited maybe to get a trip because we never had a honeymoon. Anyhow we contacted an agent and were told we had no points and that we were never registered for those points. At this writing I am getting my records together and will be pursuing all legal avenues. Is there any one else out there who has had this happened if so please reply on this website or if allowed email us. we feel that this may be happening to many of us older card members and it is not fair! We have since not reinstated the gold card fees but we will try to show if possible by records the truth of what has happened.

"I really don't leave home without it!"
I haven't been a card holder long, but I was so impressed not only with their introductory offer, but with their exceptional customer service, that I opened a second card account with American Express. It's really a great card to have!

"CAN'T BEAT THE POINTS!!!!"
I love this card. I use it for everything - even groceries. I'm forced to pay it off every month as it is a charge card, not a credit card. But I cash in points for Home Depot and Toys R Us gift cards. Points have paid for the last 2 Christmas sprees at Toys R Us and many, many home improvements with Home Depot. Highly recommend if you are personally disciplined with your credit.

Most attractive feature: rewards points and no pre-set limit
Least attractive feature: customer service always seems like it's overseas

"Great card with a few drawbacks."
This card is great if you need high spending limits and demand good customer service. American Express will stop payment to merchants if you have filed a dispute with them. I had a dispute over a return policy of one of American Experesses merchants I had done business with, and American Express refused to pay the merchant and made sure the merchant recitified the situation. This card is definitely a good choice, however all American Express cards are accepted less than say, Visa, since American Express takes a higher free from merchants.

Most attractive feature: AMEX will fight for you if you are displeased with a merchant
Least attractive feature: It is not accepted everywhere unlike visa.
