I love this card
09/21/2006
I applied for this card because AX waives the $150.00 annual membership fee for the first year. And I love the card! The reward program is the best that I have seen. I would recommend this card to anyone (for at least the first year because no membership fee). Moreover, I am going to see Mariah Carey later in the year; I was able to obtain front row seats only available to American Express Gold card members. Once again, I love this card.

Gold Rewards Plus
07/07/2006
I used a regular Green Amex back in the mid-90's but did not keep it. I did some research in '04 and decided that it would be cheaper for my wife and I to get the Gold Rewards Plus, as it gives you up to 5 cards for the $150 fee and automatic enrollment in the rewards program. I never really cared about rewards because they tend to make you spend more. As time went on we used the Amex more and Worldperks check card less, eventually moving almost all of our bills and spending to the Amex. We're billing $2000-2500/month, much of it for double points. The website makes it really easy to check charges and pay bills, plus shop for stuff with those MR points.
Customer service has been great. I've had inconsiderate cashiers crack my card twice by swiping it too hard, and Amex has UPS'd me a new card overnight both times. I've also had 2 disputes which Amex slam-dunked for me.
I just upgraded to Platinum.

american express gold card rewards plus is an outstanding charge card. although
the annual fee is a bit high, the reward incentives and customer service
that you receive are excellent.by using this card you dont fall into credit card traps that so many people do, because you must pay off your entire balance by the end of the month.if every one had this charge card then there would be no consumer credit card
debt. i highly recommend it.

Optmia Card

It is nice to have a credit card after years of poor credit. However, this card burns up more interest then the limit given to you. No only that, but they are only accepted at limited locations. you can not use them on the internet. In my personal experiences this card has turned out to be inconvenient and a waste of time in "most cases". Once getting the second card bill the interest rate was almost as much as the items i had charged on the card. My vote is to keep this card in my wallet, and only use if theres a death.

Best Type Of American Express Card
09/17/2000
Most types of American Express Cards carry an annual fee. This is an inescapable fact. Indeed, American Express aims its charge and credit products at the upper market segments. Once you have made the decision to tolerate the high annual fee in favor of its outstanding benefits such as Membership Rewards, bulletproof online fraud protection and outstanding customer advocacy with disputes, the Rewards Plus Gold Card may be the choice for you. In my own personal situation, I chose the Rewards Plus Gold Card for two reasons but was delighted with the additional benefits. I already had held a Green Personal Card for over a year when I learned of the Rewards Plus Gold Card (the company makes little note of it in advertising, except on its website). While I was eager for the prestige of holding a Gold American Express, my main motivation was twofold - I felt it unfair that I should have to pay for the Membership Rewards program in light of the fact that Discover charges no fee for its cash-back program. Additionally, my wife really needed to have an American Express Card for herself. I saw absolutely no reason why I should pay for a spouse card which was linked to the primary account since most Visa, MasterCard and Discover accounts come with free spouse cards.
The Rewards Plus Gold Card fit the bill because it provides up to 5 free linked cards for family members and free participation in Membership Rewards. On top of that, it comes with all of the benefits of the regular Gold Card, such as exclusive concert ticket offers and the Best Price Guarantee, which lets you make retail purchases under the security that American Express will refund the difference should you find the same item advertised in print at a lower price within 60 days of purchase.
What's more, the Rewards Plus Gold Card is the only type of American Express account which lets you borrow Membership Rewards points against your future charges or convert them to cash - wow!
In closing, while it doesn't offer all of the best features of the entire American Express product family (the Platinum Card and Platinum Corporate Card have extra sweet offers like free companion tickets when you pay for a first class ticket on select transcontinental air carriers and the new Centurion Card is supposed to be the very best card in the world for the affluent market), it's a nice balance of perquisites versus the exorbitant $300+ fees of their Platinum cards.

Great Reward Program
04/29/2000
They have a rewards program called MEMBERSHIP REWARDS. The great thing about this reward program is that it can be used for so many things, but those who travel frequently will find the program even more rewarding. This is perhaps one of the best programs available out there, and since being a card member I have accumulated over 100,000 points. After researching their rewards, I honestly believe the best bang for your buck is using points for frequent flier programs. Especially if you travel often with one of their partner airlines, because the points accumulated with American Express can be combined with miles accumulated with your frequent flier program. In addition, you can get cash for your rewards, store certificates, and many types of products, and remember points DON’T EXPIRE and there is NO LIMIT to the number of points you can get!!!! Though it does seem great, the rewards program and all, there is a dark side - the annual fee. With the Rewards Plus card I'm paying $150 a year. But that includes up to five additional cardholders and access to the Membership Rewards Program (with other amex cards you need to pay $40 a year). So I would not recommend it for those who only spend a few hundred dollars a month, you'll never get anywhere with the rewards, but those who spend like me (a few thousand a month) will find the annual fee acceptable! Remember that only charge cards have access to the rewards program, the other amex cards also have access, but you must also be a charge card holder first! This is a card I never leave home without!!!
Most Attractive Feature: Rewards program.
Least Attractive Feature: Can't pay over time, except for big purchase, but with high apr.
