"Rotating money"
I pay all my bills through my bank's electronic service. In October I get my CC bill and there is a ~$61 finance charge on it even though I paid off in full like I do every month. Turns out that even though every other bill (including other CC's) was posted on time, my BP Visa payment hit 2 days later than all others causing a late payment and the above finance charge.
I call, talked to 2 reps. and they say there is nothing they can do. So I get this months bill and there is an additional ~$30 finance charge. When I call again (of course getting another rep. from India) they said that since the payment in October was late that the account went into a rotating status and I get charged interest during the entire month!!! This rep also told me that there was absolutely no one in the company that could waive this charge - really, no one...
I asked to speak to a manager who was also very short with me and was almost all to quick to cancel my account. This after being with them for over 15 years! Needless to say, I will cancel after I receive all of my rebate checks.
So, basically they held my payment posting it late and I owe them ~$94...!

"rewards gift card rip-off"
requested $250 (5 $50 cards) in April, got $125 (5 $25 cards) by Fed Ex. Now mid June and 5 phone calls later and have only gotten $75 credit back to my rewards program.
This may be an institutionalized attempt to decrease loss from their rewards program. |

Most attractive feature: Love the percent rewards
Least attractive feature: Rewards program shorted 50% by sending $25 instead of $50 gift cards, beware!!!!!!

"Not sure if I can keep this card"
I have received over $300.00 worth of free gas from my BP Visa. I have had no problems up until recently. I was alarmed that all the BP stations in my area seem to be rebranding to other companies. I went to 3 different BP locations that I normally used and the BP sign was down and the gas gift card did not work. I called Chase (formerly First USA, then Bank One). The RUDE representative's only suggestion was to "keep searching for BP stations"!!! She said that BP is open in her area. I asked where she lived...Florida was her answer. I live in New York! Alot of good that does me...knowing that BP stations are up and running in Florida.
They had no information on station closings in my area. I forgot that AMOCO was part of BP and the AMOCO stations in my area seem to be operating. I was able to use the $60.00 worth of cards that I had saved up. Due to the rude way I was treated and the possiblilty that my future gas rewards will be unusable...I will likely find some other affinity card. |

"Ooops we goofed, but you still owe us anyway..."
I've been a Platinum BP cardholder for just over 6 years. I've always enjoyed the gas rebates I've received from using the card for my gas purchases. However, the company's practices as of late have concerned me. I noticed my last two statements have come with considerable rate increases. I have very good credit and have never had a late payment. So, since my rate was increased above what I'm willing to carry on a card, I decided to give them a call. I was told the rate increase was due to information recently taken from my credit report. This concerned me since my only recent financial movements should have positively impacted my credit score. So I was transferred to a rep who could go over my credit report with me on the phone. When I spoke with her she discovered and admittted that they had made an error and in fact there was no reason to raise my rate. I obviously then asked that my rate be changed back to what it was, or atleast decreased. I was refused. I then asked to speak to a supervisor, explained what had occurred, was once again told that the basis for raising my rate was innaccurate, but yet again I was refused. I was told that he was not authorized to make the change at this time. So in essence, they made a mistake and are unwilling to correct it despite my excellent account history. Perhaps this inflexibility is due to the recent merger with Chase Manhattan. Regardless, my balance will be transferred & I will not be doing further business with this company.

"Bank One BP VISA"
I got this card in early 2003 when they were offering 6% rebate for BP purchases and 2% for all other for the first two billing cycles. Normal rebate is 3%/1%. Rebates are in the form of $20 gift cards good at BP and Amoco stations. Gift cards earned arrive about 10 days after the statement does. There is no annual fee and they have a typical grace period. Bank One's website is great for online account maintenance, lookup, payment, etc. Statements are on time and easy to read. I pay in full monthly so interest rates/rate hikes are a moot point. There are plenty of BP stations around here (NC) especially since the merger with Amoco.
One nice little bonus: I put the card away after the first two billing cycles because I had a more generous offer from another rewards card. To get me to start using the BP card again, in the summer of 2004 I got a letter from BP VISA saying for every $500 ($2500 max) I charged in August and September I would receive an additional $20 gift card (5 cards max) in addition to the normal 3%/1% accrual. I charged over $2500 in August and September and indeed got the 5 gift cards.
I've never had to contact their customer service so I can't comment on that, but my dealings with Bank One on other cards have been excellent. |

"Gas Back Cash Card Awards"
I have enjoyed using BP/Amoco since before their merger. I was a BP customer so I haven't seen a lot of "program changes" like the Amoco folks have. My statements, card rewards and such have been similar since day one.
I have always had good connections with customer service. They have assisted me on at least one occasion when my card was misused for an internet transaction and things went favorably.
The only complaint I have is with the gas cards. However I should mention that the problem is really with that individual stations becuase I have found my regular BP and VISA cards won't scan either at those pumps. When that happens I vote with my wheels and drive to another station.
(Are you listening gas companies? I NEVER buy gas at a station where the card scanners are broken. I might also add .. I never buy gas TWICE at a station where the pump locks are broken and I have to squeeze the trigger for 5 minutes to fill my tank.)
Finally, I should mention one positive thing about BP gas/cash cards. Since they are transferable they can be given as gifts which I have done for birthday presents. They make good gifts for teens (new drivers) and the unemployeed (job seekers).

"BP Platinum Visa-First USA "
All of my dealings with this bank on the phone have been cordial and professional. There is alot to be said for that alone. No annual fee, 3% rebate at BP and Amoco ,and 1% on everything else. When your rebate earnings total $20, BP sends you a gascard worth $20, which has an experation date. One of these rebate cards expired, but still had a balance of $10.23. It would not work at the pump any longer, but I called the bank, and they gave me a special number to call. I was told to mail the expired card to a special address. In a couple of weeks I received a replacement BP cashcard, which had $10.23 on it. Lately I tend to use my other rebate credit cards that simply give a rebate on the next statement. It's just less of a hassle. Still, I reccomend the card and the bank.

"Easy as pie"
I've only had the card a couple of months, so I was surprised to get two $20 rebate cards in the mail last week. I guess I buy more gas than I thought I did! The closest gas station to me is a BPAmoco, and there's another one near my girlfriend's place. When you're getting a 6% rebate there isn't much point shopping around. It will drop to 3% by the end of the summer; I'll keep using it, although I'll probably get a card from another gas company for some variety. Anyway, the first $20 card worked flawlessly at the pump (I used the entire card in one shot), and the second card is waiting in my wallet for my next fill-up. I don't plan on keeping a balance on the card, so I have no idea what the APR is, although I understand it's 0% until August.

The BP Visa card is a decent program and my
statements arrive accurately printed and on
time. It has been my primary card for 5
years. I only had to deal with a customer
service rep once and they were courteous.
