"Dishonest APR's"
I have had my Bank of New York card for about three (3) years and was very happy with it until recently. After NUMEROUS solicitations on their part to do balance transfers (which I mostly ignored) and a letter stating that they had decided to raise my credit line (unsolicited on my part)AND an announcement that they had LOWERED my APR my a percentage point to 7.99%, they decided to RAISE the APR on my overall balance by 4 percentage points to 12.99%. This, despite, a PERFECT payment history and a dramatic REDUCTION in my overall credit card debt AND number of cards! This was corporate greed at its worst. I did a balance transfer off this account AND will close my account! Bad job, Bank of New York! You have lost an EXEMPLARY customer!

"They're sneaky"
I didn't have problems with the card until I found myself in a financial situation. I was laid off along with thousands of others in my city. I was unable to keep up with my bills and called Chase to see what they could do. They offered me a 50/50 payoff agreement. For 12 months, my payments would be higher than normal, but once I paid 50% of the balance, they were to wipe out the remaining 50%. I struggled to keep up with these higher payments and when I was 2 weeks from making my last one, they called me and said that I had missed a payment several months earlier and that my agreement was cancelled. They never contacted me about this prior. They "offered" me help and instead made my situation considerably more difficult with a false promise. I have recently finished paying off this card and would never want another from them regardless of my now excellent finances.

"GOLD CARD STAYS IN MY PURSE"
I had originally applied for a Bank Of New York Card through Heritage Bank back in 1978. Since then my card has been upgraded, I think in 1984, to the Bank Of New York Visa Gold Card. I am very happy with the credit line hoewever they have not been generous about frequent line increases. I now understand that this card is owned throug Chase yet my statements and card still say Bank of New York on it. The only drawback is the $45 annual fee. I was told it was put on so many years ago, that there was nothing they can do. I also think they no longer issue a Visa through BNY anymore unless you have it. It has stayed with me so long, I could never live without it. Benefits include Lost and damaged protection and also lost luggage.

"I would never recommend this card!"
Since I've been trying to reduce my credit card debt I have decided to transfer balances from my credit cards that have APR's to cards that offer the 0%APR introductory period (usually 6 months) I received an offer from Bank of New York that claimed I would receive 0%APR for a year, as long as I made all payments on time. I had immediate problems with this card. First, they spelled my name on the card incorrectly- not even close! ONE letter in the first name was correct! Then, they transferred over only about 1/3 of the balance that I had asked for, stating that I did not receive a high enough credit limit to allow the full amount. I wouldn't have minded, but they did not tell me in advance, so now I am stuck with an extra credit card. I received my first bill and paid it immediately. I recieved the second bill and it showed an APR of 18.24%!!!! When I called about it they said they had no record of the offer I had applied for. I faxed over all the information to them and asked them to make the changes to my account. I didn't hear back for 2 weeks. I finally called again and they basically told me that I didn't qualify for the offer, so they gave me one of their regular cards. They never told me what the APR would be when I first received the letter that my balances had been transferred over. They were extremely rude and unhelpful on the phone and basically told me that that was how it was and to deal with it. Needless to say, I had them terminate my account and am moving my balance elsewhere. I have never been so disatisfied with a credit card- ever. I will tell everyone I know not to use them- I even have a checking account with Bank of New York, and I am thinking of shutting that off and going elsewhere.
