| "Watch Out for Debt Cancellation Fee" |
| Look, I get that this is a credit card and we should all know what we're getting into when we sign up for one. I've had problems with the customer service on this card from the beginning. I hit a hard time when I wasn't able to pay, and if I was one day late HSBC would call me incessantly the next day. I counted 17 calls on my ID one day, and I was at work the whole time. I recently cancelled my card so no extra fees would pile up, and finally took a closer look at the Debt Cancellation Fee. After reading the other comments on here I called Customer Service and spoke with a woman who told me what the fee was for. I asked her to cancel it and she did without trying to convince me to keep it. I asked for proof of my signing up for the fee which she said would take 45 days for Research to send it to me, but she assured I would be refunded the full amount if it was discovered I didn't sign up for it. I didn't yell at her, because it's not her fault, but I did explain it was unfair and made it hard to pay off bills with an extra $30 fee each month. I also mentioned I wasn't afraid to report the company for fraud if it came down to it. I took down her name and her supervisor's name (which she didn't even know) in case anything goes wrong. She was nice enough and probably appreciated I didn't bite her head off over something she has no control over. Be pleasant enough to the people on the phone, but let them know you are angry with the situation. Now we'll see of I get the money refunded. |

| "Be Responsible!" |
I have held this card for almost 3 years, and it has worked out great. All the negative reviews on here are typically either from people who signed up for the debt cancellation service unknowingly or from people who made a late payment/didn't pay off everything during the promotional period/etc and became liable for the deferred interest charges.
As for the debt cancellation group, chances are you signed up for it even if you didn't quite understand it. However, it seems like almost everyone who fought the charges when finding out about them had their full money refunded - if anything, that shows good customer service since they had no obligation to do so. Second, if you got slammed with the deferred interest charges, you should have paid the balance off in time or made sure you didn't make any late payments.
If you are responsible, this card is great. You can purchase expensive items like TVs, laptops, stereo systems, etc, and pay for them slowly over a 12 to 18 month period with no interest. If you are diligent and responsible, you have been given an interest free loan!
To the people who don't pay attention and get slammed with the deferred interest charges, I thank you. It is your irresponsibility that gives me the chance to buy electronics with interest-free loans. |

| "Debt Cancellation Fee" |
| After years of slowly paying down my debt but never paying attention to the line item fees I finally noticed this "debt cancellation fee." A google search promptly brought me to this site where I read about other people's experience. I immediately called customer service and got connected to HSBC's call center in India. The operator politely tried to convince me to not cancel this crazy service but I was firm and requested not only that it be canceled but that I receive a full refund for what I have paid. He offered to refund 2 months. I thanked him and asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor got on the line and confirmed that it would be canceled but refused to issue me a full refund. Instead, he said, HSBC would investigate my paperwork and notify me by regular mail if they intended to refund me or not. Three weeks later I received the letter and was refunded over $700. The amount was applied to my account a few days later and nearly wiped out my remaining balance. Plus they increased the amount that I can charge on the card. I HIGHLY recommend that anyone who discovers this charge should call and be firm. Ask for a full refund. |

| "Be Aware!" |
| I just got off the phone with a customer service rep. I also have had this problem. You must read the fine print. For every $100 on your account, they insure you $.90. I asked for a supervisor and I complained as much as I could and got a 4 month credit back to my account, and am having my enrollment form sent to me. Claims I have my signature on it, and when I mentioned my lawyer she said once again it shows you signed it. So people, read the fine print before signing! |

| "How many people actually read?" |
I have been using this card for over a year now and I am satisfied with it. I have maxed out and paid off my card several times, buying a laptop, a washer and dryer, and a new TV. The problem I see most people having with this card is the "Debt Cancellation" charge on their bills. When you sign up for the card you have to check a box if you want this service(basically insurance). I don't know about most people, but when I sign up for a credit card I actually read about what I am getting into, not just blindly checking boxes and signing papers. Also most people don't understand what a credit card is for, it is to ASSIST in buying an item, not being the only way you can afford it. If you can't work out a budget that lets you pay off the entire balance in half the full time of the no interest promotion, then you should really rethink your purchase decision. As for the service itself, I have had to call them up only twice, once to have my card reissued and once to dispute a late fee they charged to my account. The late fee was due to me changing the bank account I was using to pay my card through their site and the change didn't stick. They refunded the late fee and it didn't affect my promotional financing. I really don't have anything negative to say yet.
NOTE:The Best Buy card I am using was issued through Chase. |

| "Beware of Credit Protection/Dept Cancalation" |
For two years I have been diligently paying off a bill of $3000 paying three to five times the minimum then all of a sudden I get slammed with a bill of over $4000,so where has all the money I payed these two years gone? It went to dept/credit protection and the original dept was not getting payed.I tried to cancel this once before when I found out they tacked this on only they never canceled it,also argued with me that I have to have this even after I said I don't want it. When I recently called again to cancel after getting recently slammed with the $4000+,and get my money back, they would not do it telling me,no, arguing with me that I need it,I should have it in
case anything went wrong etc. What a big hugh scam.So now I am going to put in a claim since that is what I have been unwittingly paying for and I am not scamming the equipment I bought does not and never has worked and now destroyed by a flood.Let's see if they are going to hold to there end of this "agreement" they made for me. |

| "What A SCAM!!" |
I have been a loyal customer with this card, paying my payment on time every month. I enrolled in online statements and all I did was make the payment on time each month, I have NEVER been late once.
My balance was not zero or negative at all and I was fine on making the payments.
But I got online today to see that my account was now NEGATIVE, -$177 to be exact and my balance was now $1,077! This was because I did not pay $503.00 by my promotional payoff resulting in "deferred interst charges" one interest charge alone was $250.00.
When I calle customer service, she said if i paid it within the next couple of weeks she would credit me for half of the interst charge, which is still ridiculous and i told her there is no way i would be able to come up with $503 in two weeks with just getting the notice.
This is such a rip off, i feel like I have been totally screwed by this company.
Just because I get online statements, they still should send this stuff in the mail to notify you instead of ripping you off.
Has anyone else went through this??? Is paying a monthly payment not enough?
This is the ONLY credit card I have that does this. |

| "Fraudulent charges refunded in full with one phone call." |
| My husband opened a Best Buy/HSBC card in 2003 and I just recently glanced at one of the statements for the account and noticed a $20 fee for a "debt cancellation" service that he did not sign up for. After reviewing all of his past statements, I saw that he had been charged a fee every month for nearly 7 years, ranging anywhere from $3-$20 each time, and adding up to more than $1100 in charges. I don't know how he didn't notice this, but once I did, I called the number below that fee so that we could find out what was happening. The customer service representative told us that he had opted into the plan when he first opened the card. Since we know that he didn't, I demanded that they cancel the service immediately, send us his original application as proof of that claim, and refund us every single fee that we paid for that fraudulent service, or we would take them to court for credit card fraud. They never did send us the original contract/application, but we were just refunded the full amount. I am unhappy about the scam, but happy that my problem was resolved, and now I am just putting our story out there so others can get their money back as well! |

| "DEMAND YOUR RIGHTS! YOU CAN GET THE ENTIRE DEBT CANCELLATION FEE-CHARGE RETURNED" |
I went over my limit, but I didn't remember spending enough to go over. So, I looked at my card statement online and noticed that there was a 4.75 charge called "debt cancellation" with an 800 number next to it. I called. When I asked what it was they told me that I had signed up for it and it was beneficial because I had purchased expensive electronics.
I told them I had never done such a thing and that I was asinine to even think about buying into such a scheme. I explained tersely that I wanted the charges removed at once! She told me that she could only remove 4 months worth of charges and I BLEW UP (key to action). I had to watch my language but with a heavy voice barreling into the phone, I demanded she take this matter to her supervisor. She came back on the line to tell me that she could refund every charge applied to the card. DEMAND YOUR RIGHTS! CALL THEM OUT AND DONT TAKE 'NO' FOR AN ANSWER!!!!!! |

| "Debt cancelation - fraudulent name" |
| My first language is Spanish not English and when I noticed charges under "debt cancelation" I understood that was the amount my debt was going down, not realized I had this extra service I do not how the hell went to my bill. This is a fraudulent name. Now I realized I am calling the number but because I am in California have to wait for tomorrow, will sleep helling at this. |
