"> Wells Fargo"
I applied for this card about a year ago and have been pretty happy with it ever since. It's pretty easy for a college student to apply for, and the interest compared to some other cards is lower. Some good features include fraud protection, expresspay, and easy credit limit increase. They started me out at $500.00 dollars and I asked for an increase and they immediately gave me $1,000 with no job. I probably would have gotten a higher ammount if i was employed at that time.

"No automatic payment"
I dont like this card because doesnt have automatic payment option. You need make payment by phone, check, or online every month. The only good thing is that amex will transfer you from amex for students to clear from amex (with auto payments option) to keep you as cardholder. Another problem is with balance transfers with lower rate than your regular purchase rate, NEVER HAPPEND. Citicards send me low rate balance transfer checks all the time. Dont apply for this card if you want automatic payment or balance transfer deals.

"AMEX Great Card for Usage"
AMEX cards seem to have gotten increasingly more difficult to obtain over the years. Apparently, two years ago you could have obtained this card with no credit history whatsoever; however, nowadays you will be denied due to an Insufficient Credit History.
Other than it being more difficult to obtain, this card not only looks cool, but is also great to use. Great fraud protection programs and other great benefits. Only downside I can see is that it's not accepted at as many places as Visa, Mastercard, or Discover are. Still a great card to use though. |

"Good second card for students"
Blue for Students is an entry-level card from American Express that is intended to tap the student market and gain lifelong customers. Unlike the charge cards offered by American Express this card is a CREDIT card and does not have an annual fee.
On the positive side, Blue for Students does not have an annual fee and offers free enrollment in the Membership Rewards program. The points accumulated under this plan do not expire and can be redeemed for a variety of rewards. Discounts at certain stores may also be useful if the student is a customer of those businesses. Unlike the charge cards offered by American Express this card does not require the cardholder to pay the entire balance each month; that can be good or bad depending on your payment habits. The ExpressPay feature is also handy for small purchases at businesses that have terminals for utilizing the feature, at least when the terminals work; sometimes they don't work properly and I have to swipe the card anyway.
On the negative side, Blue for Students suffers from one of the problems that plagues all American Express users; the card is not accepted at as many U.S. locations as any of the other three major cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover). This has frustrated me at times when I thought that my card would be accepted, only to find out that the business doesn't take American Express. Blue for Students also does not offer bonus points for any purchases; other card issuers like Citi offer additional cash-back for purchases made at certain types of businesses, like gas stations, supermarkets, and drugstores. The only American Express cards that offer bonus points for these purchases are some of their charge cards, which carry an annual fee and require an excellent financial history to obtain.
On the whole, Blue for Students is a good card but offers few advantages for most students. Those who want a good second card might find Blue for Students to be worthwhile, but a student who wants just one card will be better off with a Visa or MasterCard since those are accepted almost anywhere. Student cards from Citi also offer better rewards programs for most students and are probably better primary cards in the long run. Consider Blue for Students if you want a second card, but do not make this your only card; the lower acceptance rate at some stores and other businesses might leave you in the dark. |

"High Credit Line"
My inital credit line was $500, after 4 months they increased it to $1000 then $2000- $5000- $7000 which I am currently at.The card is pretty good, no complaints. I don't really carry a balance so interest rate isn't a big issue with me.American Express is accepted in most European countries, however there is 2% International Transaction Fee. I also have Discover card which is only go accepted in america (canada?), and is useless for travel - international students.

"Excellent Card But No Rewards"
Blue for Students is an American Express credit card, so anywhere American Express is accepted, you can use it . There is no annual fee, which is good. In addition, the interest rate is "low" for a college card. The card can be used at an ATM for cash, but it has a high interest rate for that and a fee, so I never signed up for what they call ExpressCash.
With the card you get ExpressPay, which means you just wave/tap the card to a reader and the transcation is done. No swiping, no signing needed. (CVS and some other places take it.) While this can be bad if your card is lost/stolen, American Express has zero-liability on fraud. Also there is protection with warranty, theft, and some sort of travel insurance.
The downside to this card, and all American Express cards, is acceptance is not as wide as Visa or MasterCard. While it is taken at most places, some smaller merchants do not take American Express. The solution is to have another credit card that is Visa/MasterCard, or a debit card that is Visa/MasterCard in case the place doesn't take American Express.
On the less-important side, the card looks nice and cool -- transparant with the blue hologram in the middle. There is no longer a smart-chip in the card, though -- but it has a smaller chip-type thing for the ExpressPay. The other problem is that there are no rewards. Other college cards offer cash back, points, or miles, but this one does not have anything. However, having it can lead to other American Express cards with rewards and builds credit. I would reccomend anyone going into college who doesn't have a card try this one, as it can help you build credit. |

"Yay for AMEX!"
As a college student, I KNOW I am tired of getting all these lame credit card offers in the mail, promising 0% for six months, only to slap you in the face afterwards. I want a company that APPRECIATES that I'm doing business with them. Everytime I call American Express, they are quick at answering and knowledgeable, (usually) easy to understand, and they get it done the FIRST TIME. The interest rate on this card is simply outstanding for a student card, I know my similar Visa is 17 percent, and the student Discover card is over 19 percent! That's ridiculous, and it's great that, with American Express, you have a better alternative. No rewards program, but heck, I was upgraded to the regular Blue card within 3 months! Then you get all the rewards points options of the standard charge cards, not including the preferred rewards and Platinum and Centurion cards. Fraud protection is excellent, a company I bought an item off of on eBay wasn't sending an item, so Amex called and threatened to take their money and then some away! Needless to say, the item was on my door 3 days after, can't say that about my Bank of America Visa! Also, like I said earlier, they offer many upgrades quickly if you pay your balance in full. Since I paid my balance in full for 6 months like a charge card user, I just got a fee-free Gold Card for a year! Also, my credit limit started at 500, and in 6 months has went up to 6,000 (not that I use it, and I still pay my card off each month)! Acceptance is not as good as Visa or Mastercard, but its about the same as Discover. Plus, more and more places everyday are taking the card, even most fast food restaurants and grocery stores, where I get DOUBLE reward points! Anyways, thanks AMEX, you have earned a loyal customer for life!

"Best Student Card"
I got my American Express card about a year and a half ago and it has since become my primary card. Besides looking good, they have a competitive APR for student cards and offer very generous credit limits. You also can enroll in their Membership Rewards Program to get gift certificates from places like GAP. This card is just too good.

"Been Good To Me"
I have had this card for over two years and AmEx has been very good to me. THey started me off with a low $500 credit line as a student w/no credit and a part-time job. Since I always pay much more than the minimum and have never been late, they have increased my credit line automatically 3 times. It is quadruple what I started out with. Also, every 6 months I call them to have them decrease my APR because I am such a good company and they have. The last time I called they moved me up from a student card to a standard Blue Cash card so now I have rewards, and lower standard APR, and no interest for the first 6 months. As long as your a responsible customer you will not have a problem. In reading negative posts, the problem seems to be people charging more than they can afford. My balance has been over $1000 before and I can never remember a payment more than $20 being due. I can't imagine not being able to make such a small minimum, even on a student's budget. AmeX has allowed me to establish a really good credit rating and I would recommend them to anyone who was responsible. If you know you are going to go on a shopping spree, don;t get a credit card at all until you GROW UP. You can't blame the company for the decisions you make.
