"Liked Amex at First"
American Express is completely ridiculous. No doubt you have heard about their recent account closing and credit limit reducing rampage. I received my card last July, used it frequently, and paid it in full multiple times per month before the balances even posted. Amex closed my account citing non-existent problems in my credit report. I checked the company they claimed to have checked; the report contained none of the problems that Amex accused me of. In fact, my credit reports are totally clean. I carry no balances and have no late payments, etc. In addition, I have more than sufficient credit scores (750+) to be acceptable to Amex. I was going to call to resolve the situation, but did some research online first. That's when I found out that I wasn't alone and that calling would do no good. Apparently even people who've held (and responsibly used) an Amex for 20+ years, have clean credit reports, and use their cards frequently are not immune. While I was mostly satisfied with my card up until that point, I cannot in good conscience recommend both and inferior card and a company that so flagrantly disregards its customers. In regard to the merits of the card itself, it was relatively widely accepted, although I've determined that it is a myth that Discover cards are less widely accepted. In fact, I've found them to be more widely accepted. In addition, they offer more perks and better terms. Amex's online site is decent, but often suffers from outages. Customer service representatives were polite though not overly friendly, but unfortunately they were very difficult to understand. (I've spent a great deal of time abroad and hardly ever have difficulty understanding even those with thick foreign accents). This is a significant contrast to the representatives I've worked with at other credit card companies. Overall, this card is very middle of the road in terms of its individual merits, but Amex's customer treatment and customer service is drastically inferior to what I've found with my other cards.

Most attractive feature: Online payments increase available credit immediately, even before payment posts
Least attractive feature: Worse rewards than other cards, less widely accepted than Discover.

"American Express Blue Credit Card Rebate Sucks"
I started using the American Express Blue Credit Card thinking I was getting the advertised rebate of 5% everytime I used the card at my local grocery store. WRONG! Apparently, AMX Blue doesn''t consider my local grocery store, a grocery store. So they don''t pay the 5% rebate. What a CROCK!

If you think you''re getting your rebate everytime your use your AMX Blue credit card *or* any other rebate card, don''t believe it. Double check and if your card company isn''t doing what it advertises, change cards.

Most attractive feature: None.
Least attractive feature: Card does not pay rebate on purchases that are advertised by AMX.

"Huge APR Increases "
I had the Blue card for about 8 years and it was great for almost 5 of those years. I never had a late payment to them and my credit score is 824 but they still increased my rate from 9.99% to 27% due to a review of my husband's credit history. All of my cards have always been paid on time and the card is an individual account - my husband is not on it. That was not right. It is my longest held card and I keep it but do not use it due to the APR.

Most attractive feature: Customer Service in Distinguishable English
Least attractive feature: Rate Increases

"Billing turn around"
I came to this site and did my homework when I wanted to move some debt to a good card to pay down bills at a low interest rate. For the most part, Amex is what was promised on this site. However, imagine my shock when I received my first bill April 28th with a due date of the 29th. I called and customer service was good, but the upshot is the due date is 20 days from the billing date and allow 7 to 10 business days for you to get the bill. They do have a very nice online bill payment system with alerts and you can pay by phone for free. I just wanted people to be aware that if they sign up for this, especially in the first month, they should stay on top of the due date. When I received the bill with one day to go, I thought of many of the shady cards I had seen on this site - not what I expected from Amex. They did say I wouldn't have been penalized for not getting the bill, but who knows? Otherwise, the rate is great.

"No complaints"
I have had my card for almost 5 years now and I have NO complaints. Low APR, high Credit Line, and very low maintenance. Rewards are always a nice surprise, since I dont keep track of my points all the time. If you can qualify for it, I suggest you SWITCH to it. But keep a Visa or MC backup in you wallet for those less "sophisticated" places....=-)

Most attractive feature: Just as good as anything else, but with free rewards.
Least attractive feature: Not as widely accepted as Visa or MC

"Redeemable mistakes"
I have ended up liking this card. I moved and had not been receiving my statements via mail. I'm pretty busy so I had forgotten about it. I called several times to correct my address and each time they said everything was okay, however, each month I'd get a late fee and my credit score kept dropping. I believe these cust srvs people tried to do what they could, they just didn't know how. Eventually I got fed up and called one last time to try and fix it. I got a customer service guy who actually knew what was going on. Despite it being my fault, I had the statements as online only, he sent a message to credit bureaus and retracted their negative rating of me. He also credited me for all the late fees I had gotten. This guy was GOLD! Since then I had been having really good experiences with AMEX.

Good things: Was recently awarded 3.99% balance transfer APR for life of balance. I feel like they actually care about my business. Get in with AMEX however you can they have excellent services besides credit cards. They have auto insurance, however, you have to have an excellent auto record which i don't. Thats probably why they didn't agree to take me on.

Most attractive feature: Excellent Customer Service!
Least attractive feature: Makes minimal mistakes

"A pretty good card."
This is a pretty good card and my only complaint is that with a credit score of 759 i was giving an APR of 18.49% after the 0% intro period. I feel that over time i'll probably be able to get them to lower that so i'm not too worried about it at this point. I do like that they were generous with the opening CL and that they have regular reviews/increases. I also like the online account layout and the card's free rewards program. I plan to get years of good service with this card and would recommend it to anyone who can get it.

Most attractive feature: Getting regular CL increases and rewards.
Least attractive feature: APR a bit high and not always accepted.

"Just wanted to mention credit rating scores..."
There was a person on here, said some stuff about their rating in the 700's////

Top credit is 800's and above. So you are a B. Sorry to break news to you, but that is the facts. Average is 600-800, the top is 800+ and it caps at 900, below 600 is considered a risk.

Crazy to blame a card for your ranking. This information is clearly available online and from your bank. They probably didn't want to explain because of all the hysterical people who do not have 800+ thinking they have the best credit.

Most attractive feature: APR and transfer
Least attractive feature: none comes to mind

"Good card for carrying a balance"
I've had the AMEX Blue card for about a year now and have been pretty happy with it. I'm carrying a balance at 3.99% for life, which has saved me a lot of money compared to other issuers. The only drawback is the customer service; whenever I've called it appears that the CSR's are working out of another country and have trouble understanding what I'm asking. However, if you're looking for a good rate and some perks (with their free rewards program) and you have good credit, I'd say go with Amex Blue!

Most attractive feature: Great Balance Transfer Rate, Nice Features
Least attractive feature: Customer Service Agents don't seem knowledgeable

"This card is fine, these complaints are absurd."
Someone in one of these complaints was upset because their 700 average credit score isn't "excellent"...it isn't, over 800 is by most standards in financing..loans, credit, etc.

Some guy has a 7/11 clerk forge his signature and doesn't file a police report, instead screams at AMEX agents for not refunding his money without one.

Someone is mad because they couldn't get an instant credit limit change...some other guy is posting pretending to be his grandfather who he is obviously ripping off by using his identity to get credit cards for himself.

Grow up people. You are borrowing this money from a lender. That is what credit is, you aren't doing any one any favors by using their product, they are doing you one.

If your payments are late, you need to rethink getting credit and loans. Considering you have 20 days to make that payment, it is hard to believe you have a reasonable excuse to be late. You can call and tell them you are going to be in the hospital? Instead of calling, why not drop a check in the mail to cover your forthcoming payment?

This card, as with all American Express products are for the responsible adult who understands that it is important to keep your word and that these are financial transactions, not playtime for people who can't manage accounts. That is why their name is exalted. The people who carry the best cards with AmEx are trusted because AmEx doesn't play around like your Visa card that you can get from 50 thousand banks and retailers.

This card is great, for all the reasons stated. No one really talks about the smart card feature, but if you have a reader on your computer, you can do point transactions with major retailers. You don't have to even type all your information in to a form. It reads the card and sends the information, just like if you were standing there and they swiped your card.

In short, if you think taking a loan, which is what credit is for those of you who seem confused on the topic...if you think taking a loan is something to play around with and who cares if you are late a couple times, you still pay them at some point sort of mentality....do us all a favor, go get your Target Visa or MBNA, leave the rest of us alone.
