I just received my new stmt on the 27th via e-mail, but they are phoning on the 24th. I do not like that they give info to anyone that answers the phone. Sorry but anyone can push #1 to say that they are you. Cutting up card.

Crummy customer service
02/24/2011
I've had the Cdn Tire Options MC for years now. The interest rate is a full 10% higher than any of my other credit cards. I pay my bill as soon as it's posted online. Never late. Called customer service to see if I could get a lower interest rate. Nope. Agent also put me on hold to check with supervisor. Same answer. Told to call back in 6 months. When I stated that their website states new cardholders could get either 19.9% or 25% interest rates, I was told that each card was different and for my card there was no other interest rate but the one I'm currently paying...almost 30%. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CARD.
Most Attractive Feature: Only benefit to this card is the Canadian Tire money earned
Least Attractive Feature: Very interest rate

Had several incidents of duplicate or incorrect charges to card. Unlike any other card company I've ever dealt with, these were very difficult to resolve with CTC; basically no help at all; assume you're a crook. Ditched this one!

Reversal of credit charges for fraudelent product/service
03/17/2005
I discovered as a homeowner, I had been defrauded by an unqualified energy evaluator from ATCO Gas and Direct Energy Marketing Ltd. When the merchants described did not refund my money, I turned to Options MasterCard for help. They have a 110 day limit in which you must start an action, but they don't tell you at all. Even after you supply Options MasterCard with the details, they treat YOU like a criminal. They "drag their heels" in answering your correspondence but demand you answer immediately, without disclosing the correct fax/phone number. People I have talked to, tell me I should sue the credit card company in Small Claims Court for $25,000.00 as a deterrent for horrid customer service and because the credit card company is to stop payment for a cardholder when such a dispute arises. I have the best credit rating available and have been with them for the past 20 years, yet they treat me with utter contempt. The credit card company seems to have more in common with the "con artists" than with the cardholder. Avoid them like the plague!

I think that offering your customers a way to save money and earn on most of their purchases, either online or in store is awesome.
I think that the company should invest more time in developing a working website for best customer service and convenience.

Costly Optional Features That Are Promoted As Free
04/01/2004
I just got my first statement from my Canadian Options MasterCard. On it were two charges for "Product Protection" and "Credit Protection" totaling an over additional 10 percent cost on my statement purchases for the month. I phoned Canadian Options MasterCard to correct this problem. I informed them that when my wife filled out the in store application, that there was no mention that there would be any charge for these services. The catch was that there is only no charge for these services as long as you do not use your card. Of course this is not explaned to you, but is rather sold to you as a no cost benefit of the card. Jive me a break!!! Worst of all when my wife requested a refund for these charges they refused, even though we promtly informed them as soon as we got our first statement. My recomendation is to avoid this card unless your sure these features are not added with out your understanding of what these features are. The brake down of these charges were as follows : My purchases for the omnth were $47.12 "Product Protection" cost was $4.54 which I wounder how I am going to be product protected if I had bought a case of pop of some food there. "Credit Protection" $0.51 which if you read almost any consumer review if one of the most over priced and worthless product on the market. Needless to say my days with dealing with Canadian Tire and there Options Credit card are over. They only cost me about $5.00, but if my purchases would of been greater I could of been out a lot more. Needless to say my expression of my opinion on this subject through this letter, and word of mouth will cost them a great deal more than it has cost me.

The Inconvenience of the Canadian Tire Options MasterCard
11/07/2003
As someone who is out of town for extended periods a lot, I am frequently not at home when mailed statements arrive. I therefore need the convenience of being able to access my credit card accounts online so that I can see them wherever I am and arrange to pay them online.
Canadian Tire Options Mastercard is the ONLY major credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, etc.)that I am aware of that CANNOT be accessed online. To make matters even worse, the 800 toll-free number to call customer service doesn't seem to work in many places in the U.S., and forget about anywhere in the Carribbean, South America, Mexico or Europe. So if you want to call Customer Service and get information about your account, it's a long distance call which you pay for. I have tried to make a collect call but the charge was not accepted. I don't know if there is a special number to call for that purpose but it certainly isn't advertised.
As a result, I only use my Canadian Tire Options MasterCard for purchases at Canadian Tire stores or service centres, just as though it was my old Canadian Tire credit card. That's all it's really good for and if I miss a payment, it's always on a very low balance.
Most Attractive Feature: Automatic Canadian Tire money for whatever that's worth.
Least Attractive Feature: It's the only MasterCard account that CAN'T be accessed on line!

Some one posted that account info can be accessed from www.ctfs.com but I have tried that site and it says to call a 1-800 number for info.
I love that I can veiw my VISA account online and that it is current as of the last business day.
The same access for the CT Options Mastercard would be all that would be needed to make it my first choice in a credit card.

My credit has been effected
06/12/2003
I missed 2 payments on this card (I only owed a balance of $29.98) due to travel for work and a move which all occured in the same month. My life is busy and although it's no excuse, it doesn't mean I can't pay my bills. Considering it was such a small amount, Canadian Tire could have taken more diplomatic measures to get it payed. Instead they put a black mark on my credit report and yesterday I was denied getting a TV at Future Shop because of it. I'm an architect with a Federal job who can more than afford to put a TV on credit, this was an embarassing situation for me and not to mention upsetting. I've heard many similar stories concerning Canadian Tire, one of which is my sister and her husband, who were denied a mortgage because of a late payment on a $100 bill with. They have a sucessfull business and between them have more money than they can use, there was no reason for them to have credit issues. These are the tactics they use, so be very carefull! After this occurance, I wont so much as step foot in another Candian Tire ever again...much less use they're crappy credit card with it's outragous interest rate! Canadian Tire sucks!!

Credit Limit
05/16/2003
I requested a CT Options Card for my wife and myself. When the cards came the limit was only a $1,000 for both of us. I called the CT MASTERCARD LINE and was told that the 1,000 could not be increased even after I stated that I needed a card that I could use for vacations and that a 1,000 would not take a family of 4 far.
I was still denied an increase by the Manager Steve Smith. I was kept on hold forever.

Canadian Tire Options Mastercard
07/17/2002
This is a great card to have. They offer two options right now. For a small fee, they double your warranty time on any purchase made on the card.
For an additional small fee, they will cover the monthly payment if you are out of work or disabled (there are limits to this, of course).
Besides these optional fees, this is a no-fee card and of course, no interest is payable if you pay your balance in full each month (the correct way to use a credit card and one that, if everone did it, would soon render credit cards obsolete - they make their money on the interest we pay).
I have yet to find anyplace that did not accept this card.
