Great Cash Reward Card, Don't Consider Carrying Balance
10/10/2003
I have been a cardholder of the Carolina First Visa for just over a year. Good intro rate, reasonable standard rate, and an awesome cash rebate program. Carolina First Visa(issued by First USA/Bank One) gives you a full 1% cash back rebate from the first dollar charged to the card. No spending tiers to meet as other rebate cards require; Such as, getting the advertised "up to 1% - 5%". Carolina First Visa has none of this, just a simple straight forward rebate for your purchases. You can request your check once you reach 2,500 points which equals $25.00.
The downside of this card is that First USA/Bank One will raise your interest rate to the default rates when they find you playing by the rules. In my case, the raised my rate to the default rates because I have never revolved a balance (they have two-cycles interest calculation, which is very costly to the consumer), they have had to issue $175.00 in rebates in this year alone. Thus, I am costing them money, so I believe this is an attempt to get rid of my business. Though, it is a moot point, as I could care less what the APR will be. As long as there is a grace period and I keep receiving cash rebates on things I buy every day, I will continue to use this card. When I called FirstUSA/Bank One about my concern of being "punished" for using the card as agreed. I was told it was because I had opened a home equity line (which is carrying a balance that is 14% of the total available credit line)? First USA/Bank One considers this to be a "risk" to them, in that I could charge up my equity line and then not have the funds to pay my obligation to them. 22 year credit bureau history, no pattern of credit abuse, FICO score of 781, and a generous income. Go figure their logic?
Most Attractive Feature: 1% Cash Rebate & No Annual Fee

Good Card if you don't revolve or care for a reward program
04/16/2003
I have had a Carolina First Platinum Visa for a few years and have nothing bad to say about them. The card provides a great credit line for me, and a grace period to pay back the balance in full each month. You can revolve your charges as with any Visa card, but First USA administers this card and charges the 2 cycles interest method should you revolve. If you don't revolve this (or the APR) are not an issue at all. No real benefit of the card, just a good, all around regular Visa, with decent customer service. You can pay this card online as well at the First USA website.
Most Attractive Feature: Nice initial credit line and no annual fee
Least Attractive Feature: 2 cycle interest calculation
