"Avoid First Premier at all costs"
Have had the card for 7 months....just cancelled my account....events leading up to this decision....here are the details: for the past 7 months I have been a MC holder....I have been in the habit of paying my balance (IN FULL) every 2-3 weeks....so all is great, right ?! Well no....I recently checked my account, saw that my last balance had been paid in full, and yet, they put a hold on my account!! I call customer service and they proceed to tell me that my frequent paying of the full balance was suspicious (??!!) So they tell me that I can reactivate my account if I go to my bank and have them verify my account....Here's the kicker, it's the same account I've had when I first opened my First Premier account. So I remind them of all this, and ask them why I'm getting penalized for paying my balance in full....i then get shuffled to 3 different reps, which upon the third I said "just cancel my account"....terrible customer service, exorbitantly high interest rates, and questionable business policies!!! Avoid this company at all costs!!

"I don't care how desperate you are--do NOT get this card."
Seems easy enough--you have poor credit and you get approved with no hassle. Yes, the "start up" fees are high (but hey--we have bad credit. It's what we have to do to get credit, right?) In the month that I've had my card, it's been "frozen" three times for various reasons. The first time was because I incorrectly entered the bank routing number when I attempted to make the payment. This was my error, and is legitimate. The second time was because the letter I had my bank fax to them didn't contain enough information (it was missing the bank's phone number. Seriously?!) The third time was because the letter wasn't good enough and they needed an actual letter mailed to them. I spent the $11.00 to pay over the phone using my debit card (linked to my checking account) and was *assured* that the payment would post on the next business day and that I would have immediately available funds on my card. That was over a week ago, and still nothing. I tried to log on to my account this morning and found that it's been locked out again. PLEASE STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. Yes, it's easy to get credit, but you know the old saying--if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. And you want to know what else--they charge you $29.00 to close the account, and then (according to other reviews I've read) they screw you yet again because it doesn't really close it. DO NOT DO THIS.

Most attractive feature: Getting approved easily.
Least attractive feature: You get the run-around for EVERYTHING.

"BEST FOR BUILDING OR REBUILDING CREDIT"
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT IF YOU HAVE BAD OR NO CREDIT AT ALL YOU CANT ASK FOR MUCH. IT'S CLEAR THAT EVERYONE WHO COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS CARD DONT KNOW ANY THING ABOUT CREDIT CARD COMPANIES OR CREDIT AT ALL. WHEN YOU ARE IN A SITUATION TO WHERE YOU HAVE TO BUILD YOUR CREDIT YOU HAVE TO START FROM THE BOTTOM AND MOVE YOUR WAY UP. CARD COMPANIES ARE NOT GOING TO EXTEND MUCH CREDIT TO YOU OR THE LUXURIES OF HAVING A CREDIT CARD WITH LOW APR AND OTHER AMENITIES WITHOUT HIGH CHARGES AND PENALTIES FOR BEING LATE OR CASH ADVANCE FEES ETC. THIS CARD IS TO BE STRICTLY FOR BUILDING UP YOUR CREDIT, YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOURSELF TO THE CARD COMPANIES AND THE BANKS THAT YOU ARE WORTHY OF USING CREDIT PROPERLY AND WISELY. THE ONLY WAY TO BEAT THE CREDIT CARD COMPANIES OF HIGH CHARGES IS TO PAY DOUBLE OR MORE THAN THE MINIMUM BALANCE, DONT EVER BE LATE, BECAUSE AS SOON AS YOU DO, HAVING THIS TYPE OF CARD YOUR INTREST WILL SKY ROCKET; AND USE THE CARD TO REGULARLY SO THEY WILL HAVE PAYMENT HISTORY TO REPORT. HAVING THE CARD AND NOT USING IT IS NOT GOING TO HELP YOUR BUILD YOUR CREDIT. ALSO TAKE OUT SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF CREDIT LIKE AN AUTO LOAN AND A SECURED LOAN SO YOU WILL LOOK BETTER TO THESE FINANCE COMPANIES WHEN THEY LOOK AND YOUR HISTORY TO DETERMINE IF THE WANT TO EXTEND CREDIT TO YOU. NOW, IF YOU CANT AFFORD MORE CREDIT DONT GET MORE, DONT GET IN OVER YOUR HEAD WITH TRYING TO REBUILD CREDIT, BE SMART AND WISE. BUT BACK TO THE CARD, ITS THE PERFICT CARD FOR BUILDING CREDIT, USE THE CARD FOR REBUILDING ONLY, PAY THE BILL ON TIME AND TRY TO PAY MORE THAN THE MINIMUM BALANCE IF YOU CAN THATS THE KEY, AND NEVER BE LATE. IF YOU DO THAT YOU WONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ALL THE HIGH FEES THESE OTHER PEOPLE ARE B%$#ING ABOUT. OTHER THAN THAT YOU WILL HAVE YOUR INITIAL FEES TO PAY WHICH IS HIGH BECAUSE YOU HAVE LITTLE TO NO CREDIT OR BAD CREDIT. WHEN YOU GET THE CARD TRY TO PAY THAT BALANCE OFF AT THAT TIME AND START USING THE CARD TO REBUILD. GOOGLE 'HOW TO BUILD YOUR CREDIT' FOR MORE TIPS AND WAYS TO BUILD YOUR CREDIT

"dont do it to yourself!"
this totally happened randomly, i received an unopened unsealed envelope with a bill for a minimum of 25$, 179$ overall. what was weird about this was if it was a real legit bank, the bill and statement wouldnt have had a direct tv advertisement attached to it inside the envelope. when i went to the website i also noticed that surrounding the website were also advertisements. NOW! if im going to give out my card number and pay a bill, would i really trust a nonsecure website with tons of ads on it? NO! no bank or credit card company has ads on the side. its supposed to be safe where no1 can see your info.
when i called the number to cancel, the represenative on the line was very unprofessional and was literally about to curse at me. total disrepect, even before she asked my name, she asked my social, address, and phone number. so i said...are u a least going to ask my name??? she started to get an attitude. after about 5 minutes of me being straight forward wih her, she finally transfered me. the person she transfered me to was better that assisting me cancel the unknown account that was also charging me for nothing. after everything was said and done i asked her if the bank could send me a written copy of my cancellation, she said no, they dont do that and gave a 4 number conformation number. now what kind of conformation number is 4 numbers really? i asked her what i do with this and she didnt give me a straight answer. before i couldve asked more questions the line somehow was disconnected.weird... hm!about 2 weeks later i received another statment saying that if i dont send in a payment,(this time, the fees have made its way up to about 300$) they were going to send my info up to collections????? did i not already cancel this nonexisting account? so i called them back with the conformation number and they said there was no use of the conformation number i gave them and that there was nothing for me to do but make the payents before it was too late. the next day, i went to my regular bank and the accountant got it straightened out. boy! i shouldve dont that from the get-go.

needless to say, if it was fraud. i wouldnt have gone through all that trouble, confusion and unprofessionalism to get things straightened out.

"They are full of You Know What!!"
I got my card in Jan 06. Right off the back I started having problems with them. I immediately sent in my money to cover the initial fees charged and they held my funds for 21 days before I could use my card. When I called I was told that this is the norm for someone just starting with them. Needless to say after the 21 days had passed I tried to use my card and couldn't because they had frozen my account. They said it was because I had tried to pay more than the balance due. I think it was something like $5 dollars more, because according to my calculations that amount is what it would have taken to bring me to the $200 available credit amount. After arguing and fussing with these people for 2 weeks about this I closed the account. I was in the process of buying a house and I was told that I shouldn't have done that in the midst of that process so like a dummy I opened it back up. Since then when I use the card I pay the balance in full every time I get paid if I have used the card in between paydays. I recently asked for an increase in my credit limit and I was denied because they said it was because of my past credit performance with First Premier. I had an account with them back in 99 after a BK and they claim that this is why I can't get an increase. I then wrote them an email asking why would they turn me down for an increase because of something that happened 7 years ago, when they dediced to let me get another account in the first place. The response was that I would be informed by mail in the next 7-10 days of the results of my increase. Needless to say they sent another letter declining me, the problem is I never asked for another increase I asked why approve me in the first place if you were not going to give an increase once I had the card. I can't seem to get through to these people so I will be cancelling my card yet once again, and this time it will go back to them in tiny pieces. Because I am sure if I keep it until Jan 07 they will charge the yearly fee of $150 and I will still only have a $250 limit. My advice get an Orchard card. I have had not one single problem or complaint with or about them.

"Better than expected, so far so good."
I received this card in Jan/2006. I was suprised that I got approved. My limit started off at $300. This is ok for me since I really didn't want a card with a high limit anyway. This card is working out just fine for me. I opted to just eat the $7 I got charhed for paying my bill online. I also was charged a one time fee of $3.95 to set up an online account, so now I can check my account anytime. My very first payment I made was held for 15 days or so even though the money wa taken out of my account within 4 business days. I have made 2 payments since then, and they were not held. I pay $7 extra to make up for the internet fee. This is what to be expected for not so good credit. I have also called customer service, they are very nice, prompt service, and courtious. In 3 or so more months, I can ask for an increase in my credit. Good luck.

"ripoff"
I have had my card for two payments, first payment of 200 dollars was held for 20 days befor reliecing my credit amount.I was told that this was a one time deal to verify my banking info, although ridiculouse i let it slide, once the money comes out of my occount the info is confimed
The seconed payment, witch i was told would not be held.well ofcource it is being held from the 3rd of feb to the 20th of feb.this is a bunch of crap.exactly what i was told WOULD NOT HAPPEN did.of cource customer service gave me a run around and soud that weatern union is th only guarentied way for quick payment,so they are holding my funds again.
I do not recomend this card for people trying to rebuikd ther credit ,this card is a money trap and not only that they steel your money and earn interest on it for days at a time while you are out of that money for 20 days and paying a high interest rate
soon to be X customer
