"5% Categories are a Joke!!"
So I signed up for a Chase Freedom Rewards Card just 2 months ago, got my second statement, and only had 252 Points for 5% Rewards. The problem is, I purchased over $240 worth of gas in the first two weeks of July (Chase claims it's a 5% category). So if you took 4 times 240 I should've roughly gotten 960 points, which is about 700 more than I got. So after talking to them, this is their reasoning: "I regret MPC and Motomart are not listed as a category in Gas. Hence, this purchase will not be considered for the 5% cash back. However, you would earn the base reward points i.e. 1 point per $1 for this purchase.

Additionally, I would like to inform you that, when a merchant accepts VISA or MasterCard as a form of payment, the merchant must select a category that will identify the business type. This category is used when determining if the transaction is eligible for rewards. If a merchant is not a specialty store and provides a variety of products, the merchant may choose a general category descriptor rather than a specific category. For example, a store that sells clothes, gas, automotive parts, and groceries may choose the category "Superstores" rather than Groceries or Gas. When a transaction is authorized to your account, rewards are automatically determined based on the category
that has been designated by the merchant. Hence, it is the merchants who determine how they want to register with Visa or MasterCard and not Chase. However, I request you to check with the merchant how they have registered before making a purchase to earn 5% bonus."

So overall, it's just another big bank SCAM!!!

"How Chase drove away a good customer"
I had a Chase Visa for several years. I had it set up to automatically debit from my bank account, so, of course I was never late. Then, I moved my account to another bank. I paid off my balance in full first, and I think I notified Chase of the new account number. But then I got a bill saying I had an overdue balance (8 dollars and something cents, finance charges that had accrued I guess). The late fee for the overdue 8 dollar payment was 38 dollars, AND, I was moved to the penalty interest rate of 29.99%. After never missing a payment before!

Of course, I called to complain, and after holding for ten minutes with bad muzak, all I got were robotic customer service clerks obviously in India reading prepared statements to every question I asked: "I'm sorry sir but a late payment fee must be assessed in the event of any late payment and the account will be moved to the penalty rate for twelve months unless. . . . " etc. I pressed the issue, got transfered three times, and was just about to be transfered again back to where I started before I put my foot down. I told them I wanted the late fee taken off and the interest rate changed back or I would cancel, and the person said, "would you like me to cancel your account sir?" So I said yes, and he seemed happy (well, unemotional) to cancel me out.

Then a week later I got junk mail from Chase offering me a lower interest rate after 12 months if I would make all of my payments on time for the next year etc. After one late 8 dollar payment!

I'm glad to be done with them. I'm really looking forward to taking my excellent (close to 800, I think) credit rating and giving my business to a different company, preferably one that puts people before profits.

"$29.58 finance charge cost them to loose a customer of 8 years!"
Have been a Chase Rewards card holder since 2001. Have always paid the balance in full every month therefore did not have an issue with the APR. The ONE time (recently in Nov 07 statement) that I failed to pay the balance in full (neglecting to change my scheduled monthly payment amount) and the payment was paid in full 5 days after the finance charge posted; they refused to reverse the full finance charge amount. I guess they felt that making a profit of less than $30 was more important than keeping a customer of 8 years. Sayonara Chase. I asked them to close my account.

Most attractive feature: cash rewards which was credited to your account monthly
Least attractive feature: not flexible in reversing finance charges

"Worst card I've had"
You do not seem to be able to keep the program you sign on for. Even if you request a billing date they change it . Not worth the headaches, there are too many other cards out there.

Most attractive feature: none that I can think of
Least attractive feature: Talking to customer service never seems to get you anywhere. Rates continually climb.

"Fluctuation of due date each month. "
First I have been with chase for over 10 years and enjoy their rewards program. Although over the last several years I have run into major problems and will probably cancel my account with them. First credit is not an issue my available credit line is $28,000. My problems with Chase has been that they continue to change the due date(I pay my card off each month) in order to receive late fees even after I have requested many times via internet and phone for a due date for the 20th of each month. Another problem is their website is not consumer friendly and I have to many times call for things that I can easily take care of via internet with my American Express, Citibank and various other credit cards. I like to take care of my business online for payments, problems, disputes, etc. and it is basically impossible to do this with Chase's website. Last, looking for information and navigating through the Chase website is a joke. There is no reward information listed on the website and you have to call customer service to obtain this information....another useless phone calls that I had to make to Chase. No I would not recommend Chase to anyone.

"Ten years of satisfaction, what happened?"
Unfortunately, after having the same credit card for almost 10 years . . . I'm moving on. My original card agreement was a guaranteed 8.9% interest for the "life of my card". Somehow, a new card agreement, with the ever-so-fabulous "Chase Rewards" was issued in January of 2006, stating my new APR as 12.9%, variable. After contacting customer service and finding that there is nothing they can do because it is stated as variable in the agreement, I watched the APR increase monthly to now over 28%. I will be closing this account and severing my financial relationship with Chase and their family of companies. I do not recommend this card to anyone that wants to pay three cents over the dollar for their purchases.

If you pay your balance off monthly, I would suggest asking your bank whether there is a rewards program associated with your checking account. You can get the same benefit without the concern of high interest, scams, constant telemarketing calls and pounds of junk mail.

I'm sorry CHASE, something changed in the way you conduct your business and treat your customers. For this, you will continue to lose long-standing patrons.

"Card was Great, The Company is Deceptive"
I had this card for a little over two years. Never late, usually paid off the balance monthly. A few months ago I received a promotional credit line increase called the "Spend and Get" Offer. I had to either spend a certain amount per month for 3 months or carry a certain balance. Being Christmas time, I just made new purchases and met that minimum new amount ten-fold each month. So then the period ended and I paid off the balance. I thought everything was good. Then they lowered my limit back to the original amount stating I did not satisfy the promotional offer which I knew I clearly did. Luckily I saved the flyer I received, made a list of my purchases, and called the service department. I stated my situation and the woman said outright that I did spend as much as I should have. I naturally disagreed and sent a letter to their correspondence department with the air-tight proof. Then 7 days later I got a reply in the mail that my request for the higher limit was declined even though I PROVED I met the offer's requirements.

So in short, I became angry for the bait and switch. I closed the account, sent a copy of my letter along with the names of the reps who "helped" me to Chase's executive offices. I don't expect much to happen because the customer service is incompetent if not malintentioned. So do yourselves a favor, if you get a Chase card do not expect customer service or the bank to live up to its agreement. Otherwise, the card was fine except now I have cards with better rewards. It is kind of sad that I think this way about the bank since I work there in the Fraud Department. Don't worry, I can say without any hesitation that the people in my department are sharp and do their jobs well. But now I know why everyone is so mad when I finally talk to them...the service reps are horrible!!!

"This card is as good as Chase claims."
All the previous reviews are unjustly! Out of the previous five reviews, three of reviewers held a balance over the 30 day grace period. Why would you do that with a cash rewards card. You don't consolidate your credit with a card of this sort! Thats why they got the shaft from Chase in the first place! Oh, not to mention that Chase states this during the application process in this manner:

" The terms of my account, including the APRs, are subject to change. Any such changes will be made in accordance with the Cardmember Agreement."

The other two reviews claim they were only given a $1000.00 credit limit. What? How is that possible when the minium credit limit for this card is $5000.00? Funny. The past reviews are not cool.

I was denied the Dividend Platinum Select® Card from Citi because there "system" didn't approve me regardless of an Equifax credit score of 768 and a demerit free credit history. In a nut shell my only fault is that I'm 23.

Oh well. I applied for this card 2 months later and was approved on the spot. I've had the card for about a half a year now and it's been perfect. I keep track of my points and my account online and all of stuff is on the ball. No problems.

I was just on this site researching for a new travel rewards card and I came across the impossible reviews on my current card (this card) and had to drop a couple lines in it's defense. Well thats it! Peace.

"Use it if you pay off your balance every month."
They gave me 3k account with 3 months 0% intro APR. Than, increased the APR to 23.49% (!)on the second month and charged me interest. Call to customer service resolved the issue (I must say that cust service is easily accessible). I'm going to cancel my account due to the mishandling the of the intro APR - thinking that if they can be inaccurate once they will do it again.

I recommend that you look elsewhere due to high finance charges they charge after the intro APR. Note that I was told that one can redeem points online (ichoosemyrewards.com) which might be better experience than over the phone.

Most attractive feature: They are out to get you. But, which card isn't?

"Chase Rewards Card should be called "Bait 'n Switch Card""
Although I have a steller credit rating and earn well into six figures, I was only approved for $1,000 credit limit during the application process. When I complained and threatened to apply eslewhere, Chase finally conceded and raised the limit.

OK, no big deal but here's where I realized that I should've never given them my business: When it came time to claim my first reward. You see, the whole process of claiming a "cash" reward is a joke. It begins with a call to Chase's customer service dept. who then launches you deep into a tortuous cyberspace exploit frought with telemarketing bait and switch tactics. When I had just about reached the boiling point and plead with a foreign telemarketer to just send me a check for my cash reward, he promptly informed me that it would take 4 - 6 weeks for that check to arrive. Then he insisted that I take delivery of a catalogue chock full of wonderful products to choose from the next time I decided to claim a reward. But here's the best part: After going through the whole humiliating process, they never even sent the check! Instead, I received gift cards for the same amount as the cash! So I'm still trying to claim my cash reward.

I guess they really mean it when they call it the "Chase Cash Rewards" card!!!

Most attractive feature: Chase's advertising is very convincing
Least attractive feature: claiming rewards is torture and downright "scam-like"
