Customer Service is an actual obstruction to the Customer

I never thought I would see the day, when a credit card company would not let me know my own balance. Used to be an automated system would help you with what ever you needed. Now unless you know how to please them, after all your not a customer to CitiCards your just their bitch, they will not let you know your own acct info. They actually try to make you default!

Not a real rewards card
02/10/2011
The extracash reward points are useless. You cannot redeam them without actually purchasing the majority of the item. If you are looking to use points towards a $100.00 giftcard, you can only use 10 points and you only receive a 10% discount on the giftcard. You still have to pay $90.00 for it. It's basically a coupon site where you use your points for the discount of the coupon.
Most Attractive Feature: 0% interest for about a year.

Terrible customer service
12/27/2007
I had a charge in dispute. I did not receive all the items and noted that on their dispute form. Their only options were "I received the items" or "I did not receive the items" Since I received a partial order I checked both boxes and wrote an explanation. Later I was charged the full amount because they said I never should have checked both boxes and I was "wrong" to do that and now I would have to pay the full amount. I even explained that the form did not have an option for a partial delivery and they said I should have called them to help fill out the form. I explained that there wasnt even an option for partial deliveries. They said too bad I would have to pay. All due to their forms being poorly made!! So when you need Citi forget it.

Citi stands by their customers
03/08/2007
I've had this card for 10 years or so.
When you get a rep who speaks english, they are usually extremely helpful.
Citi just replaced my cards PROACTIVELY.
Gave my wife and I new cards - both with unique numbers, they were concerned over potential fraud.
I could not find my new card in the mail pile to activate, they offered to ship me a new one ASAP.
I once used it randomly once for gas 2000 miles from home, they alerted me after the fact.
Now I check in with them before travelling.
wish the rate was lower than 14.99 (they won't cave in on rates as easily anymore).
I use it as a back up to my AMEX. Compared to Chase & Capital One, I much prefer the Citi experience. Most likely a customer for life.
Most Attractive Feature: They appreciate loyalty, waived fees when appropriate, alerted to potential fraud
Least Attractive Feature: Offshore customer service for initial calls

I live on a VA pension that ALWAYS arrives on or before the 1st-so I asked for statement date on last weekday of each month-after 4 months they have moved it back one day each month-for JAN. 07 IT WAS ON 26th-that's a FRI. WHAT'S WRONG WITH 1/29,30,31-a Mon,Tue &Weds. The pay by date is 2/15-so that's at most-an 18 day grace period-they advertise AT LEAST 20 DAYS. On 1/30 I mailed 4 checks to pay bills-Citi being one-3 of them are back at my bank and paid by 2/1-on 2/2 these jerks haven't even deposited my check yet!-IF I was the CEO of these morons I'd fire anyone who let huge amounts of $ sit on desks-not earning interest.
Most Attractive Feature: You might get lucky on phone-email responders are useless

Bad APR

I've been a Citi Bank customer since 1999. My credit score is 760 and my credit card has an APR of 14.95%. They state that is the best they can offer me. I've learned to never carry a balance with them. Also, the points never get posted like they say you earn them.

I have had Citibank credit card for approximately 10years now. I've never had any other credit card..(mostly due to the fact that I'm stupid enough to carry 3-4 different cards, with 3-4 different rates, balances, payments, etc...)
There is one thing I can say about Citibank..they go to bat for you if you have a problem with another company. I have only had two problems with other companies when I used my Citibank card to purchase something. When the deal went wrong, for whatever reason, I simply called citibank, asked them to take care of it, and they did. Typically, inside of week, I had my dispute resolved fairly.
Unfortunately, I have also had the unplesant experience of being "passed on", or "tossed around" from one customer service rep to another...having to tell my problem/story over and over again. But, sometimes, it gets taken care of after talking to just one or two people...I guess it just depends on who you get.

PAPERLESS STATEMENTS
11/16/2006
I got slapped with a late fee and Finance charge because i did not get my statment by email. I get online statements notifications from other CITI cards so i dont think my company mail server is rejecting any email from this company. They have an automated voice message that called me about my late payment , but after the fees were put on to it. I called and they told me to pay the statement first, which i did online immediately. Then next day i called to say i have been a good boy and to remove those 2 charges. They could not do it. I asked for the manager who seemed to have understood my grevience and took off the charges. I havent got this months statement by email either.

I signed up online for the Citi Diamond Pref Rewards Card early Sept for 10,000 Thank You points after the 1st purchase and for a year will get 5 points for every dollar spent on groceries, gas or at a drugstore. They sent me a REGULAR non-rewards credit card, so I called & was transferred to about 3 reps who said I did NOT sign up for the rewards card (can you believe that?). After talking to a manager named Joy, she said she'll "look into it after reviewing the webpage I used" (finally! I thought)--about 2 weeks later I got the rewards card. Then a letter followed saying their records do not indicate that I would receive the 10,000 Thank You points. On 10/10 I called again & the rep assured me that the letter was wrong and I would be getting the points. Well, I just got my first statement...you guessed it...no 10,000 points after my 1st purchase (I've made 8 purchases)! I just got off the phone after talking to 3 reps and Anita said it'll take 2-3 billing cycles to get the points. But she couldn't confirm that I will be getting 10,000 points for sure; she put in "another dispute" for me. When will this end????

Don't apply online
10/13/2006
I applied for and received this card through an offer on their website. I was promised 10,000 Thank You points after my first purchase. When I paid my first bill I received only 5000 points. After calling citibank, and being transferred seven times between citibank and the Thank you network, I finally got to someone who said the problem would be fixed. After a week nothing was different, so I called again. After 4 transferrs a supervisor told me that my offer was for only 5000 points and that no 10,000 point offer existed. I pointed out that it is still on their website. That silenced him for a minute, but then they claim that I must have applied under a different offer. There aren't any 5000 point offers! He finally told me to mail them a copy of the offer, so I printed it off their own website and sent it in. No response yet. As soon as this is resolved I'm cashing out my points and cancelling my card.

What difference does ....offering more points per dollar spent afford you when it takes 35000 points for Domestic Airline tkts instead of 24000 points with Chase Visa and comes with restrictions that Chase Visa does not use at anytime. I have had this card since 1996. Never carried a balance, never been late on a payment--not ever. Recently I had to charge something and now am carrying the balance. Noticed my APR was 19.2% (why???) so I called. Guy told me he could lower it to 15%. I sort of chuckled, he said its the best we can do. I said thanks. Then, I promptly transferred my balance to another card, offering 1.99% until paid in full! Goodbye Citibank!

Thank you Network - not meeting up to their end
06/13/2006
The initial promotion was that you received 10,000.00 free points (thank you points) when you made your first purchase. I did so and the Thank you network promptly showed my points. Redeeming the points seemed easy enough.
After 4 weeks I did not receive my 100.00 Home depot card...hmmm.
I went on to their site and the site states that the card was processed on 4/25/06 and mailed on 5/2/06. It is now the 13th of June and still no card. The fishy part of all this is that the site has a link to track your shipping...and then the site goes on to say n/a hmmm....
Ok, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I called approx. 5/25 and was told that I had to wait 6 weeks, then fill-out a claim form. When I asked to speak with management, a nice gal took my call. I asked her about the ship date of 5/2/06...I was told that that was probably the processing date! Again, I was told that I had to wait 6 weeks prior to filling out a claim form.
Now, of course 6 weeks has passed and I called the customer service number again. They told me I would be sent a claim form and that could take up to 2 weeks. I can't believe Citibank would allow this to happen.

this card isn't all that
02/20/2006
i've had the citi diamond preferred rewards cards for a few years now (they had switched me over from the sony card, which was useless to me anyway), and i have to say that while i do like the variety of rewards that are offered, i'm having gripes about the customer service over at the thank you network. i had no problem ordering my $100 home depot gift card back in august 2005, but i ordered a $50 gift card at the end of december 2005, and i have yet to receive it. what could possibly be taking them so long to mail out a $50 gift card? i checked out my account at thankyounetwork.com and it said that my gift card order was "in progress" for over six weeks! that is ridiculous, considering that with my discover card, i can order a reward and it will come in 7-10 business days.
i called citibank's thank you network about three times during this six week period and got responses from customer service reps that ranged from uncaring/ignorant to just plain rude. i had a feeling that it was forgotten about and they didn't even want to investigate for me. the first gift card i ordered in august shipped out the same day, so i saw no reason for my second order being "in progress" for six weeks.
i finally called again at the end of the six weeks to ask about filing a claim form. and guess what they told me? that after filing the claim form (either via fax or mail), that it would take ANOTHER six weeks for the new card to ship. that is RIDICULOUS! they forgot about my initial order and i need to wait another six weeks? why couldn't they expedite this, knowing that they had screwed up my order? i then asked to transferred to a manager, and put in my complaints. the best she could do for me was give me 1500 "goodwill" points. well, what good are these points if i am not getting my rewards as promised? i was able to order another $50 gift card with the addition of these points, but so far, my order is still "in progress." whatever that means.
i had another problem with citibank last year when i ordered from an online merchant affiliated with the thank you network. i was supposed to get an extra 5 points per dollar spent. well, six months later, still nothing. and i had called about that two or three times in that period to get an update. they started an "investigation" which they promptly forgot about; it wasn't even in any of the comments on their screens. so all in all, nothing happened until at the end of the six months, when i got really fed up and talked to a manager. she awarded me 1000 goodwill points. whoopdeedoo! the time i spent and frustration i experienced was just not worth it. after these two experiences, i am just not a big fan of citibank. and they keep sending me their stupid junk mail all the time, killing trees needlessly.
so i plan on not using this card any more until i see my rewards in the mail. i am going to use my discover or chase cards instead.

Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards Card is NOT posting the 5% bonus points!
05/08/2005
I would be thrilled with this card IF they were posting the over 7,000 bonus points that I've accrued since joining in January, 2005. So far, I've only received the 1 point for every dollar spent - no problem there. However, we are also supposed to receive 5 points for every dollar spent at gas/grocery/drug stores - none of these points (which have accumulated to over 7,000 so far) have been posted to the online webite where redemptions are made.
I have contacted their customer service over 3 times - these people are of no help at all - they only say they will begin an "investigation". Well, it's been over 4 months and still no bonus points.
I would really be vary wary of this credit card. I have heard other people say they are having trouble with receiving bonus points. I've never had a problem with a rewards credit card before this one!
I have stopped using it until I receive my darn bonus points! Come on, Citi, what the heck is wrong with you!

I've had the diamond preferred for a little while now and just recently upgraded to the citi Premier pass so I could receive airline miles. They have some great benefits including lots of travel insurance, identity theft protection, $0 liability so if you are charged incorrectly you are not responsible, as well as extended warranties on any purchase and virtual numbers for better online protection. There benefits have gotten progressively better over the years. The only complaint I have is that at times you may have to call customer service several times to get the answer you need and that there are often better benefits with your card and lower APRs but you have to ask in order to receive them.

Watch those rates
01/25/2004
I signed up for my credit card over the phone. The rep assured me that it was a 7.9 variable (about a year ago) so I expected my interest rate to be different each month. My purse was stolen.
When I reported my credit card stolen, the rep kept me on the line for nearly 45 minutes explaining every kind of credit card protection program they offered. As hard as I tried to get off the phone, this fellow (gregarious as he was) somehow managed to sign me up for over $65 worth of credit card protection. I can't imagine actually agreeing to that.
When they sent my new card I noticed that the rate was at 9.9%. I called to ask why my first card was 7.9% and my new card was 9.9%. After some investigation the rep found that my first card was actually submitted at 13.9% and they were now giving me the best rate they had.
Needless to say, I've transferred my balance to (I started out saying I'd transfer to ANYONE else) another card and was fortunate to find a 5.9 fixed.
I will never knowingly deal with citi bank again.

Citi needs to look up "customer service" in the dictionary.
11/17/2003
This card had potential. It has a "fun" reward scheme of gift cards that you can get at a full 1% (although you need to spend $5000 to get the full 1%) redeemable at a nice variety of places. However, it disappoints on so many other levels...
LOW CREDIT LIMIT: I have a excellent credit and the limit I got on another card around the same time was more than FIVE TIMES what Citi gave me on this card (incidentally, a limit I have not seen since I was about 19 years old). I requested a higher limit and they said I had to wait 6 months. After 6 months they offered me a paltry increase and wanted me to fork over all my bank info for them to raise it higher - info they should be able to get from the credit repor they were going to pull anyway!
AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE: Let me count the ways...
-You have to create a separate login and password at a different web site to redeem your rewards - a process that is explained nowhere until you call.
-You can't schedule payment of your bill (it can only be paid the next day from when you want to pay it online)
-Horrible web site gives misinformation about rewards program, makes it almost impossible to do anything online. Awful all around.
-Customer service reps on the phone who are empowered to do nothing when you call.
If you want to feel like a number and maybe even a criminal, then by all means get this card. Otherwise, avoid CITI cards like the plague.

The free rewards program, and discounted gift certificates make using this card every day a no brainer.
