I am a banking customer with Citibank and have enjoyed the freedom to bank around the world with them. The World Mastercard has some nice perks. However I have a USAirways Mastercard from Barclays Bank, they give a day pass, companion certificate and $75 off a yearly membership to the airline club, if AA/Citibank would do this, it would be the perfect card.

"Really enjoy those "free" trips on American"
Have had the card for several years and have accumulated lots of miles. Really like the way the card ties so easily into my AA miles. Got two tickets from LA to Puerto Rico without problems. Flew for something like $26. Will be going to Chicago soon and cashed in miles for 3 people. Have had bogus charges in the past, and Citi cleaned up the problems first by giving me a temporary credit and then after investigation, full credit. My experience with the service department has always been good. Have used the card in Europe and the Carribean without problems. Was burned with a late charge once when my payment went in late...won't make that mistake again. Overall very happy with the card except I wish the annual fee was lower. You really need to charge lots of money to cover the fee.

"Frequent payment refusals"
While traveling overseas, Europe, China, paymenst can be refused wihotu a single explanation.
I even had payment refusals as small of Euro 32.00 with Amazon.fr
Long phone calls with customer service that seems to be in India, always end up by frustration. Same questions are ask 3 times and never a straight answer. Do they understand American english???
Is CITI an American company???
I give them a few more month to clean-up their act service before I cancel my card. |

"Getting Inducement Miles"
American Airlines Citibank Visa (on which I built my frequent flyer miles) has been campaigning for two years, it seems like, to have its members switch to the Gold Advantage® World MasterCard®. (Don't forget those ®s.) They offered as much as 10,000 mileage rewards, stuff like that. I asked their customer service several times, point blank: "are you going to continue with Visa, too?" Always was assured "certainly," "of course," 'n' like that.
So-o-o, comes a letter from AA Citibank: we're gonna cancel your Visa account and send you a MasterCard. Make sure you validate it as soon as it arrives. No reward, no nuttin'.
Card came. I stopped using the AA Visa card and informed all my automatic payment accounts to switch to another Visa I carry. One of 'em failed to do so...and Citibank went right ahead and transferred the debit to the UNvalidated MasterCard.
That did it. Fired off a letter (to S. Larson, Citibank Customer Service Center, PO Box 6500, Sioux Falls, SD 57117-6500) pointing out the dubious legality of the charge (which I paid, anyway) and demanding 10,000 miles before validating the new card.
Letter today from Citibank: "10,000 miles will be added to your account."
Somewhere I remember hearing "the squeaky wheel gets the grease."

"Rude, Rude, Rude!"
If you need a job and have anger management issues... this is the place for you!
I was traveling for business and had to charge everything on my card, then be reimbursed.verytressful for someone on a limited budget. I made a large payment before my trip so that I could rent a car, etc... According to the back of the stmt., I thought that it would be posted that day if rec'd by the time posted and it was sent electronically. When I got the bad news and paused, (because now I was screwed and in another state), the cust. svc. rep was far from sympathetic but instead was sarcastic and rude and basically picked an argument with me over the policy. I was just asking him to read what it said on the back of the stmt. so that I could see where the misunderstanding came from. |

"Credit Denied for Someone with Excellent Credit!"
I applied for this card through an application I received in the mail. A few weeks later I was denied a card due to having more credit extended to me than "they' thought I could pay back. I have never in 25 years of marriage been denied a card as I have excellent credit!! I have never even had a bad check in my life. So, obviously, they prefer people that have bad credit if they feel you have the ability to pay your bills. Good credit means nothing. What a joke!

"Forced to switch"
As a long time Citibank Visa cardholder, I received two new cards in the mail and noticed that they were Mastercards and had a different account number. Citibank will not permit me to keep my old numbers and I will be forced to contact all automatic billing companies to change my account number. The customer service representative tells me that there is no way to keep my old number. Citibank sends out so much junk mail that I missed the one that notified me of this UNREQUESTED "Upgrade." I am so outraged that I had to find a way to complain. The customer service representative could care less whether I take my business elsewhere.

"Customer Svc"
This credit card must have the worst customer service department I have ever dealt with. On two occasions the preset spending department personnel have hung up during a conversation. They seem to go with the mindset "the customer is always wrong". The information contained on the website and sent with the card are very poor in describing how the card really works. Info makes the card sound very easy to use if you exceed your "no preset spending limit" but in the past month we have made at least 20-30 calls to customer service and received a different answer every time. We feel very deceived based on information received and extremely disappointed with the way Citibank conducts telephone conversations. Hanging up on a customer is unacceptable!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CARD IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A HASSEL FREE CARD!!
