"lost home because of this card"
I had never been late for a payment and always paid double or triple the amount due. One month I had a payment returned for a stamp. I called Citicard and explained why payment was going to be a couple days late. The next month, interest was raised to 20%. The month after that my other cr. cards raised interest to 20% even though I never had a late payment or missed payment. When contacting them they said nothing we can do. I tried to keep up,but eventually fell behind my 2nd mortgage payment and losing my townhome to foreclosure. All of this because of Citicard. I never did have the money to file bankruptcy and have since become ill and had to retire, so I live with constant harrassment from those companies who treat people as sub humans, when after all they are the ones who cause the difficulty because of their greed.

"Citi Credit Card"
Applied for this card in 2001 due to the amount of time spent in hilton hotels. Only really used this card to pay my hotel bills because it came with the highest APR of the three credit cards I have. Ensured I paid in full each month. I recently discovered an error placed on my credit report by the Alabama department of revenue and immediately checked that all my cards APR and credit limits remained the same. Of the three cards, only CITI had increased my APR and lowered my credit limit. I called customer service and explained what happened. The CSR offered to decrease my APR to 9.99% and submitted a request to have my limit raised to the prior level. Called the CSR 4 hours later and was told that my limit would not be raised. I immediately paid the balance in full, notified CITI to cancel, and will never use any CITI services again. If possible only ever use credit cards issued by credit unions. This bank, like all others, will do anything possible to 'rip' the consumer off.

"I love this card"
I have several credit cards, and this is the best. They communicate with you, reward you for good payment history as opposed to cards who only hurt you for bad payment histories, have great online services, offer rewards in cash back, and always have been friendly and responsive. If you only go for one card in your wallet, this would be the one to pick!

"Platinum Select"
I've had this card for about three years now, and use it for everything (I'm one of those that don't carry cash). I pay my balance in full every month, and just watch the reward money roll in. It's only 2% after the first six months, but I guess that's better than nothing. I haven't had any issues with customer service, although I've never had to dispute a charge or had any reason to call them, so I can't really say anything. Shrug. I'd like to get a card with more benefits, but this does for now.

"Disputes"
We disputed a purchase and customer service told us we didn't have to send anything in writing until they ask for it. By the time they requested a written response 60 days had past and the merchants bank refused to issue a credit. When pointing out to the representative that we did everything we were ask to do at the time they ask and that it was CITI card that failed to respond within the 60 day period The attitude was to bad, there was nothing that could be done.

"NOT GOOD FOR BALANCE TRANSFERS"
I consider myself an expert at this point in my understanding of balance transfers. Currently I have two CITI Platinum Select Cards, each with a $7100 credit limit. My credit score classifies me as "excellent credit".
Both times I've processed 12 month 0% APR balance transfers with CITI (one was processed online, the other by phone), I found myself surprised after the 3rd month when suddenly the rate jumped and I received finance charges.]
- YES, I paid my bill(s) online well in advance of the due date(s).
- In most cases I exceeded the minimum payment and often paid nearly 200% of the minimum payment due.
CITI customer service from Monday thru Friday is total CRAP! You are calling India where I have learned that the customer is always wrong.
If you call on Saturdays, you are calling the US and at least feel like someone is giving a little closer attention.
I wrote them a letter challenging their finance charge and they reversed it and paid off that months bill. The following bill I got another finance charge.
I told them I was going to cancel both cards and report them for misleading terms to the Better Business Bureau.
When I cancel both accounts I will never do business with this bank again. |

"Get $ if you are sick like me."
I am one of those sick people who enjoy trying to take CC companies at thier own game. It isn't something anyone should do because you can get burned if you miss one small detial like a rate expiration date or cash advance fee in the small print. I prefer my Delta AMEX Sky Miles account, but my CitiCard is my second favorite. I pay off my primary card monthly and enjoy the little spiffs that come with reward programs. Citi's web site is good. Getting a dividends check takes 2 extra mouse clicks. As long as you don't have to speak to a person you are in good shape.

"Ehhh... It's ok"
Just graduating from college and wanting to build credit to buy a house and car, I did some research and found that there are no credit cards in existence that don't have TONS of people infuriated with customer support and getting screwed by the system. So if you're sitting here reading these reviews thinking "Geez this card sucks" think again. Every card sucks. Which card sucks the least? In my opinion this is one of them.
I've only had one negative mishap and it was their online database's fault. For some reason I made an online payment (by the way, as others have said, IMMEDIATELY enroll in online bill pay. There is a long wait for the process to complete). Anyways, I made and online payment and the system didn't show it on my balance but my bank account showed that the money was taken out by Citi. Long story short, their system assumed I missed a payment and my APR went through the roof. They tried to nail me with a missed payment fee and a small fortune in interest payment. I called and explained what happened and the customer support person saw that there indeed was a withdrawal from my bank account before the statement due date. She removed the late payment fee and interest fee was credited back to my account.
Besides that, this card has served me well and has been great for XM radio payments, gas pump charges and cell phone bills. For the necessities that occur no matter what each month, this card is perfect. Other spending is done with my debit card. The citi account never gets out of hand so it's worked very well.
Don’t enroll in those rewards programs or whatever. I get the checks for $5 in the mail all the time. Cash it and you’ll be enrolled in some silly monthly program that 99% of us don’t need.
Only thing I can think of that would make this card more attractive would be a less brutal punishment for missing a payment. Why don’t all their cards have automatic bill pay? That would be nice since this card doesn’t have it. Now that their simplicity card is out, I’m considering switching over to it. I don’t need an obscene credit limit and it does offer auto bill pay. Other than that, this is a nice card and my experience with customer service was great. |

"Terrible Payment Options and Customer Service!!!!!!!"
Let me start from the very beginning: When I called to activate my card a service rep helped me and was very nice. As soon as he confirmed it was activated he tried to begin to sell me "payment protector insurance" basically a way for them to make more money (or in my case, make any money, because its a 0% interest for 12 months card). I told him I wasn't interested and he says, "Well its included in the card and when you get your first statement call and we will deactivate it" To which I reply, "Can't you just deactivate it now" and he says, "Well, you won't be able to realize the benefits if you quit now" and I retort, "I don't want this program, can you take it off my account or not?" By this point I can tell he's annoyed because they expect me to just agree with them and not think about the fact that my first statement will come one month from now meaning no matter what I will be giving them money for the program. So he says, "Yeah, I'll do it, you're done" and then HANGS UP ON ME. Hilarious.
OK, now a couple weeks down the road I've got a pretty sizable balance on my card and I want to make a large payment. So I sign up online and plan to pay online like every other card I use. And instead of letting me pay with my debit card they have to access my account using the routing code and account number. Whatever. So I enter all my info and go to make a payment and the system tells me that I can't make a payment for 6 business days while they "access" my bank account to "verify" it. 6 business days???!?!?! What is this 1959? Do they need to teletype my account number in? Do they need to retrieve it from my bank via horse and carriage? It gets even better. So I call the number on the back of my card and I get a rep on the line and tell him that I want to make a phone payment and he tells me its going to be $14.95, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Every other card I've ever had has let me make a phone payment for free.
Here's their scheme: They assume you wait about a week in advance to sign up to pay your card online. The convenient 6 business day window will easily put you past your due date. Here is where the smart and dumb people diverge: The dumb people will wait past the due date for their account to clear and BAM! They gotcha. 0% expires the first month because of late payment, Hello 20% APR Hope you don't have a huge balance. The smart people will call to pay and realize that its either $14.95 or 20% on whatever balance they have. And that is that. The point is here to set up your online account ASAP and never, NEVER make a late payment. Enjoy. |
