"Great card and great cause"
It's great to put some money away for college just by making day to day purchases. I would like more rewards. The cap is a hindrance but I barely hit those limits. 10% for Online shopping would be great.

Most attractive feature: Additional savings of 10% on Grocery & Drugstores and 2% on Gas with NO CAP
Least attractive feature: $300 limit thought I have never hit that limit ($30,000 in purchases is beyond my scope)

"Bang for your Buck"
On participating grocery store vendors, you get 10% + 1% as for all purchases, + whatever % the vendor offers. Can be as high, altogether, as 16%. On gas at Exxon or Mobil, you get 2% + 1% as for all purchases + .01 per gallon. On a $30 purchase, probably $1.00+.

This, from a free card.

Also - little known secret. They will cut you a check directly instead of directly funding a 529 account. So, there's no worry about their plan not contributing directly to your 529 state or plan.

Most attractive feature: 10% on groceries PLUS, PLUS
Least attractive feature: Only 1% on non-Upromise vendors

"CitiBank UPromise Card"
This is one of the best ways to help parents of young children save towards a college tuition and expenses. You can shop on line at hundreds of retailers, and each offers a different percentage return on your spending. By using the Citicard, you receive an additional 1% back too. The shopping site is secure by 128 bit encryption, and I've never had a problem with any delivery. There are also resturants that participate and there you can get 10% return on your bill. It's the best card we have, and all the expenditures produce a return for my child, what a great idea!!

Most attractive feature: A percentage goes towards a 529 College Savings
Least attractive feature: none

"This Card Falls Short"
When my wife and I first heard about the Upromise program we thought - "hey, this is pretty cool". However, the more you dig into it, there are several drawbacks, especially when compared to similar programs.

1). The Credit Card: It's not a bad card with no annual fee and 1% cash-back. The downside is that you are limited to $300 in rebates annually.

2). Rebate Options: Once your rebates are paid into your Upromise account, you can only direct them into a handful of 529 plans - none of which are the ones run by my state.

Comparing the Upromise card to similar cards, it simply falls short. In particular, I have found the card issued as part of the BabyMint.com rebate program to be a better card. There's no cap on rebates and I can direct the rebates into my 529 plan.

Anyway - that's my input. Have fun!

Most attractive feature: Cash-back Rebates
Least attractive feature: $300 cap on rebates - limited to handful of 529 plans

"Citibank Upromise"
Citibank has excellent service, their website is unbeatable for information and service. It is quite impressive, you can look at individual transactions, dispute individual transactions, it is amazing. The best feature of this particualar card, however, is the 1% of your purchases go to your Upromise account, which you can link to a 529. Check out www.Upromise.com and www.citibank.com.

Most attractive feature: 1% of all purchases go toward college
Least attractive feature: High interest
