Rip Off

10/18/2011
This card started at $250.00. But when I talked to the guy on the phone, said it was $2250.00. Yes go figure. Was going to try and fix this, but didn't want to work with me. Told this person to send me something in black and white, before I sent money to him, said he couldn't, but he could send me a receipt. Hello, im not just going to send money to someone without some paper work, that I can have as proof. Stay away form this card, because it's a total rip off

why am I being called by a collection agency 2 years after the fact?

09/11/2011
I paid off my account at the end of my third year of college...that's the year they went bankrupt and started selling themselves off. I only found out about the buyout because my bf told me about it. I called BoA and asked about my account. I was told they had no record of my account so I cut up my card and went my merry way. Two years pass and not once am I contacted by BoA that my account was delinquent. All of a sudden I owe a collection agency several hundred dollars. "Pay it off," they say, "or else your credit will suck and you won't be able to get a house or another card." I pay it off and it didn't do a g-d- thing...I have a charge off and a collection on my credit report. I am currently appealing for its removal.

Comapny went Bankrupt, Now What!

01/24/2011
Clout Financial Credit Card went bankrupt and sold their accounts to about 6 different companies. some of those companies in-turn sold the information they purchased about your account to other companies/banks. How do I know, because I tracked all of the companies down in order to find my account!!! I received the card on my 18th birthday (so I was 17 when I applied)! I had a limit of $250.00 and some how ended up paying them $1,829.32 through a debt collection agency!!!!!! Worse of all is/was that there is no one contact about your account while the company was filing for bankruptcy, so your account was still collecting interest!!!!! It has ruined my credit. They reported it was "charged off" when I actually pain in full. Now I'm in disputes with the credit agency over the validity of the account's status!!!! WORTHLESS CREDIT CARD! Thanks for the messed-up lesson! Glad Karma was there to repay the debt!
Most Attractive Feature: That the company went bankrupt!

I've had the card

07/21/2009
I still have the last card I received from Clout Visa, which expired 08/2007. I didn't even get to use it that long, it was offered to me when I was 18 about to graduate from high school. I was also offered another credit card from 1st Financial Bank USA and I jumped at the chance, it made me feel grown lol. But now I am in major debt. I owe clout almost 3,000. They can really get you because my limit started out with $250 and it just kept on increasing as long as I kept making the minimum payment(which was only $10, and who can't pay that, right???) So I started spending even more especially when I found I out I was pregnant, so mama gotta buy for her baby, and almost maxed out. So my account has been closed for about 2 or 3 years, and they have not received a penny from me. I don't plan on paying them anytime soon, because I am unable to. So I would definitely reitterate...BE CAREFUL, because they increase those limits so that you will spend more. I had to learn the hard way. I knew nothing about credit until mine turned bad lol.

Good Card

02/23/2007
I've changed my mind about this card. It's actually a good card. You just have to use it responsibly. Just because you have a high credit limit doesnt mean you're supposed to max it out! Having high credit limit with lots of unused credit increases your credit score. A while ago I called their customer service and after they helped me they asked if they could do anything else & joking I told them a lower APR would be good & later they called me back telling me I qualified for lower APR & actually lowered it lol They only took me down to 16.75% which is still high but compared to how high theirs usually run this is low. Their APR they started me off with since this was my first card was like 23 or 24%. They now have me at a credit limit of $4,500. My advice, dont close your accounts. Having multiple accounts by different banks with unused credit creates leverage. Always keep your balance on whichever card offers the best rates. Card companies will actually lower your rates when they see there's competition. Anyways, remember there is good debt and bad debt. The poor buy stuff, the middle class buy liabilities and the rich buy assets. Your financial intelligence is what determines whether or not having a credit card will hurt you. In the end, Blame yourself, not the card company.
Most Attractive Feature: Easily attainable high credit limit increases. Excellent customer service.

Canceling my Card

01/10/2007
I've had a card with Clout for 3 years now and ALWAYS pay my bill on time. It was my first credit card when I turned 18 so I've always felt loyal to them. I recently started going to a financial consulant who advised me to call all my credit card companies and request lower interest rates. All of my credit card companies complied and lowered my rates by 10 points, a huge reduction. That is all of my companies except for CLOUT. They gave me some BS line that the bank isn't allowing them to change interest rates for 4 months. I find that hard to believe. What I find even more ludacris is that even after I threatened to cancel my card, they're willing to let a good customer like me go. Therefore I'm canceling my card and transeferring my balance to another company!!!!

This is the card that can break you

08/09/2006
Let me first say, this card company targets high school grads for the very purpose of exploiting the lack of financial intelligence high school grads posess. I mention that the best feature is the fact that your limit will go up almost 150 a month, if you pay in full and on time. After six months they raised my limit 500 dollars without me asking. But this also a ploy for them to make money off you. Clout wants you to mess up. Clout wants you to get big-headed and think you can spend more money and be in control. They raise your limit to entice you. The fact is, if you can handle this card, pay in full and on time every month, you should be able to handle any card. My credit rating is top-notch, because I didn't fall for Clout's schemes. I recommend this card ONLY IF YOU PROMISE ME YOU WONT MESS UP. But if you dont feel up to the pressure, there are plenty of other cards that can establish credit.

Love this card

07/23/2006
I honestly love this card. I have never had any problems with the card whatsoever and they even lowered my interest on top of increasing my line of credit periodically. I agree with daryl's review, it does sound as if poeople do not read the terms and conditions and have no understanding of credit. I believe in reading the fine print and having responsiblity with my actions, some of these people cannot fathom that notion.

I have a debit card through the state of NE for my child support. These are handled by Clout Visa along with Clouts other cards. I got married and requested a new card with my new name. I sent in my marriage liscense like requested. They put my info on someone elses card account. The SSN, name and address did not match but they switched it anyway. So I recieved a card in my name but someone elses account number. Had I been a crook I could have went on a spending spree with someone elses money. I have been so patient in trying to get this fixed but they keep calling me saying I am behind on my payments. HELLO.........Not my account and why can you not understand that. I will now be contacting the state and US Bank and let them know what kind of company they are dealing with. Be careful if you go through these people, they are very sloppy with YOUR information. Good card for establishing credit

03/23/2006
After reading some of the reviews posted for this card I can only say this about the people who had negative things to say...uh DUHHHH! One person wrote that this is a bad card to get because they spent 600 dollars, didn't make a few payments and it went up to 800. Another wrote that his debt turned into 2200 in debt. This is what happens when you establish a debt you can't pay off! You're a college student, where do you think you're going to get the money to pay off any type of credit card debt? Not to mention that you are going to have a sky high interest rate because you have no credit. It makes you wonder how these people got into college in the first place. Most important rule for anyone applying for this as their first card (actually this applies to any first card)...DON'T BUY SOMETHING IF YOU CAN'T PAY IT OFF IN 2 MONTHS. Simple! First off, I applied for two credit cards when I entered college - a Capital One card and the Clout card. Both were your typical college cards, automatic to obtain, high interest rate, low limit. Being new to the whole credit thing, I promptly screwed up my Capital One card (although they told me I had 4 months no interest and they charged me interest on a plane ticket I bought during the first month). My Clout Gold card has been a lifesaver however. I've had this card for 4 years now and after getting my credit under control, now have a 5000+ limit and my interest rate is 8 percent lower than it was initially. Best thing of all? I didn't even have to ask for it! Of course this is more a case of them trying to get me to buy more, but I'm smarter than that. I have 3 other credit cards now and NONE have taken the opportunity to raise my limit/lower my interest without my provocation. I have never paid an annual fee so I don't know what that's all about. They have a rewards program, but its not that good.

Thank god I pay in full

03/17/2006
I received this card when I was unemployed and in school. How I was approved? God only knows. I didn't use it for the first two months, then began charging small amounts to it. Except for a few months, I always payed my balance in full. Interestingly, if I paid a few dollars more than minimum payment, there simply wouldnt be one required for the next month. This didnt stop the interest, but I did this on a few occasions. I recommend this card only if you dont intend on spending anymore than 40 % of your limit, and like to pay in full, as this was probably the only way I was able to avoid these problems I am reading of. Now why did I not give them a better rating? Because they are shady as all hell. Shady statements, late statements, shady customer service reps, an ameteurish website.. I did my part of the bargain and they did theirs.

WORST CREDIT CARD EVER MADE

03/13/2006
Like everyone else I was entering college and I figured I needed a credit card just in case I got stuck on the highway with no money. Turns out I used my card for other things but after using my card twice I some how ended up reaching my limit. Before you know it a 600 dollar limit turned into an 800 dollar credit card bill that had no idea how it got to 800. They said so much crap to me about so many fees that I just paid the whole card off and cut it in half so I would never use it again. I still am a memember but now all I have is an account with them so I can get good credit. So my advice is get the card cut in half and never cancel it so you receive credit to get a better card.

Great card

01/04/2006
I just got my Clout Visa Platinum after having been rejected for credit before after having been a victim of identity theft and the bank accused me of running up $1000 in fees when it happened to be an employee of Wal Mart who stole my number and started running up monster charges and it eventually ended up on my credit report which hurt me getting credit years later. I was looking for a reliable credit card that didnt have the high credit lines and allowed flexibility for students to rebuild their credit after past credit problems. It would be ideal for them to start credit lines off at $300 and then increase when someone pays on time, but to start at $2,500 is steep for someone trying to rebuild their credit. I don't use my card because I am trying not to rely on credit and keeping my bills paid on time. I saw a lot of the posters on there giving their disapproval of the Clout Visa card. One poster on there was satisfied with his card and recommended it, but he also made a good point which is to read your terms and conditions inserts that come when you first get your card before signing the back of it and to use it responsibly. Instead of using credit use a debit card because you don't have the bills and you can still work with a certain budget. Your credit card should be used only when necessary and it's good to have when you book airline tickets, hotel rooms, rent cars, and anything that requires a major credit card to secure things. Credit is a powerful thing to have, but when it's used irresponsibly it can cause you problems in the long run by not allowing you to buy cars, homes, and things that require good credit to obtain. If you're new to credit start with the lowest credit line possible like $300-500, but only increase your credit when your budget permits and even then do not go over your limit because it could take you a long time to pay the balance off in full. A college student should not have no more than 3 credit cards and stay away from platinum and gold cards because some carry high annual fees and percentage rates and stiffer fees if late or over the limit. It's a good card to help those who messed up their credit, but not recommended for those who have a problem with using credit in moderation and using it in a responsible manner. So some of the people who posted their disapproval of the card are probably those who don't read every line of the terms and conditions and the fine print and if they got the cards for their children to set a limit of how much they spend on it and that will eliminate the high interest and late fees. Annual fees are only tacked on if you have not made payments on time, but it goes away when you pay your bills on time and your account is in good standing it's a security measure for the credit card company since late payers are risky to credit card companies. Word of advice use your credit wisely and responsibly and it will work for you in the long run.

Least Attractive Feature: Credit limit 4 their platinum card is too high for someone trying to rebuild their credit

My Clout Visa Experience

12/31/2005
Like most of you, I've gotten this card because as soon as I got in college some foreign telemarketer kept calling my house everyday harrasing me to get this card until I finally accepted just so she'd quit calling. As for my experience with this card, I have never made one late payment ever and have never went over my limit not even once so Ive never been hit with a late fee or overlimit fee. I did regret not reading the fine print about cash advances. I ended up paying $10 fee just to withdraw $20. Also even though they say there is no annual fee there really is. THEY LIE. I think they charge either 30 or 40 bucks annually. My recommendation? If you have no credit at all and can pay on time and never go over your limit like me then this is a good card to start off with. Dont build too much of a balance on this card though because the APR is too high. Just keep it to build up your credit history. Once you do that, you'll start to recieve better Pre-Approved offers from other credit card companies. Accept about 2 of the better ones with lower APR, transfer whatever balance you have then close this one. Just use this card as a stepping stone to a better one. I have called them and even though I have never had a delinquency not even once they will never lower my APR. You'd think with how badly they've tried to get me to get this card they'd have a better attitude towards their longterm cardholders but its whatever. This is more of a take it or leave it type of card. I will be closing this account real soon.

I have not used it and have not even activated it and I won't be doing so in the future. You guys have really helped me not make a very bad choice. I got my credit card in August before I started school. Since then, I have reached my limit with purchases of birthday gifts, books for school, etc. Now, I have been hit with a $39 fee for being late and another fee of $39 for being over my limit, when i'm not even sure of how i went over when I hadn't used the card in over a month. Great College Card to have

10/15/2005
I received this card about 6 months ago and this card is awsome. I have never had any problems with this card and it is definitely a card to get especially if one is trying to establish his or her credit. Sure the interest rate is not their most attractive feature but again, when you are establishing credit, you don't receive the best rates at first, you earn it. I for one work for a credit agency and I highly recommend this card for those who do not want to pay annual fees, set fees, etc just to build their credit; you have to start somewhere. Coinciding with that, from the reviews I previously read before drafting my own, it sounds like the people who do not read their terms and conditions and obviously do not understand what credit really is. Like all credit cards, it comes with responsibility.

This card is a revolving nightmare. My daughter charged school supplies up to the card limit. The next statement came with the added on high percentage rate that put the card over the limit. She was charged another $39 for this. As we fought the charge she was hit with an other $39 late fee. This over limit is charged every month untill it is paid down.I had to step in and pay $140 just to get it under the limit.

Clout.com Sucks!! This is by far the worst credit card in existence. I unfortunately got this card when I was an undergraduate in college and have had it for a number of years and have probably made this company quite a bit of money. That being said, it was a huge mistake. I'm the type of person that likes to pay my bills online and their online bill paying system is herendous and usually results in me paying a 29 dollar late fee just about every 4-5 months. And they always think its your fault. Avoid this card. It is a huge mistake. The interests rate sucks too and they never lower it.

International rate

07/13/2005
My son had used this card for 1.5 years with no problem. The problem started when out of the blue he was billed $750 for something. When he finally got to talk to someone they said someone must have stolen his number. They said they would take care of the problem, then the next month he had the same charge on the card. He continued calling them trying to take care of it with no helpful service. Finally someone told him he had an international rate to pay. He is attending college in Canada and had used the card instead of cash. Clout had gone back to October and charged him the international rate for the previous 6 months. He had never received information saying there was an international rate applyed. Also, they went back 6 months before the rate was instituted. Four months later he is still trying to take care of the problem. Clout also call my house not his number in Canada although he gave it to them. They also use an automated call system which calls me in Oregon saying for someone to call them, but his cell phone will not service that number they gave him.

It's impossible to pay!

06/24/2005
Like most everyone that got this card, I was a college student and needed some spending cash soon, so what better way than getting a credit card. The statements came in so late, that I barely had any time to pay it. Also, you can pay online but the charge you to do so! I mean who charges you today to do that??? Paying online would be so much easier... if you could EVER access the website. It is always down, and I can never get in. So her I am trying to pay off a credit card that takes forever to get a statement, usually making me late on my payements, and not being able to access the website for faster, and more costly, payments.

This card is just like any other card/business, out to make money. However, this card is great for those who want financial independance without going through a co-signer. BUT!!!! One must be very, very careful and honor the 25 day grace period and not hold a balance, cause that is where they WILL get you.

settlement experience

05/31/2005
I am not a fan of credit cards in general, but when your 18 they just keep on coming in the mail, and you don't realize the mess it can lead into. After only using all my credit cards for one year, now it is six years later and I am still paying them off. Five months ago I agreed to settle with Clout.com and they agreed on 3 months of $300 dollar payments and they credit my acount $150. Then I had 3 months of $150.00 month payment and they credit my account $100.00. So they have worked with me graciously, but the APR and the increasing credit limits got me.

How can I get someone to cancel this card? I need a number.

05/24/2005
My daughter was called in her dorm room also and asked a multitude of questions by someone she could barely understand. She is only 18 and made the mistake of telling the woman she could send her some information packet in the mail. What she got was a Visa card in her name with a huge 20% apr and a $25 activation fee. She brought me the card and I tried to call the number given to cancel it since she never asked for it, but the call itself would activate the card so I hung up before putting in the account number. I cut the card and held on to the information packet for a few months to make sure we didn't receive a bill which we did not and after about 3 months I threw that away too. Just recently my daughter received a copy of her credit report which showed that this card is cosidered active just with no balance. We want the thing canceled and I can find no number or address or anything at which we can call. We don't even have the account number anymore because we thought this was over since the card was never activated. Does anyone have a customer service number so we can get rid of this once and for all?

My story

05/21/2005
I got a real kick out of this credit card. It arrived in my mail one day and I sure didn't remember applying for it. I went ahead and activated it and put it to some use. Here's my biggest problem with this card, you need to take great care in reading the statements. While on every other credit card statement I've ever received the stuff like my balance and minimum payment etc. were clearly indicated, not so with this card. The statements would be written in such a way to make it look like you didn't have to send in any payment at all that month. This confused me, but using my better judgement, I sent in a payment for the full amount I had charged on it. Only after reading the statement several times over did I realize that they have some of those most poorly written statements you will ever see. Knowing what I know now, I would say stay away from it. They make the statements so that somebody could be easily fooled. "And now you know, and knowing is half the battle."
Most Attractive Feature: The first CC I ever got. Built a credit record with it.
Least Attractive Feature: The statements.

Clout Visa

05/12/2005
I'm under the impression that Clout Visa targets the student population. Their interest rate is very high and should be lower if they provided credit to a more general population (rather than mostly students). This is my main complaint with them. Howerver, I would add that unbenonched to me they offered my very ill son a visa and he took it and proceeded to charge over $8,0000 on it. I have paid it off once and am in the process of paying it off again. I tried to cancel the card, but they would not talk to me because I am not the card holder. I cut up the card once, but they must have sent two cards, because I received another large bill. So I am now paying it again. I would ask if anyone else has had the same or similar experience? Overall, I do not believe they are much different than any other credit card company - rather it is the population they serve that makes their % rate so high. I would think though that they could lower it for on-time payers after six monthes or a year as other credit companies do.

Follow up to: Scam? or they don't have experience?

05/05/2005
Hey Guys how you doing? Well... I received the kit that the guy was talking about throught the phone. It actually took two weeks as the guy said, but instead of a kit, a credit card arrived. I don't know if I should call so that they cancel whatever information they have about me, or I shouldn't call at all. Should I cut the card? I haven't used it and I'm not planning to activated. It's so funny because they had sent me that card when I was in such a tight economic situation. It's as if someone has a visual circle to put young students in debt, so that we would be debt for the rest of our lives. It's funny too because I read a comment from a mother that said that her son/daughter didn't even have a job. I didn't have a job and they sent me the card anyway. I still don't know if they are legit or not? I have to put in my account number so that they can answer me on the phone. I don't know if you guys know what I'm talking about. I wanted to get a hold of them and the only way to have a representative talk to me was by giving my account number through the phone, the number on the credit card < automated touch thing. Well, I hope you guys and I are just victims of people who don't have good customer service and not victims of theft. Take care.

My son was pre-approved for this card upon his 18th birthday. He did not solicit for the credit card. He did not have a job! He had no source of income and was still in High School. Yet they enticed him and he signed on for a $600.00 limit. He almost immediately maxed out his balance and had not yet made a payment as he was "late", go figure. Nevertheless, CLOUT doubled his limit, duh! Now, about 2 yrs. later they wonder why he isn't making his payments. Month after month charging huge late fees as well as over the limit fee's. AND, calling me, his mother, who he no longer resides with, day in and day out at all times of the day and night and sending collection letters and bills filling my mailbox with their JUNK! Yes, JUNK! Get a grip people, you are very foolish "business" people! I hope you spend all of your dirty money on stamps, phone calls, and other methods of collection, but never see a dirty dime!!

Well, I am glad to say that I laughed at the lady on the phone and told her she must be crazy right before I hung up the phone. She told me that she was going to send me some information for a college grant. When anyone asks you for your SSN over the phone, never, NEVER give it to them, you might as well put it on a flyer with all your other information and pass it out in the ghetto. It was obviously some scam, she wouldn't answer any of my questions. If you want a credit card, get it through the bank that you bank with.

I signed up for the clout visa because I was a freshman in college and did not have a credit card. I had no real problems with the card, but I completely paid it off every month. Periodically my limit would be raised and since then I've been able to use this card as a gateway to good credit and better cards. My primary card is a different visa, and I have a total of about $10,000 credit. Overall I'm quite happy with my card.

Scam? or they don't have experience?

04/04/2005
I received a call from a clout representetive asking for personal information. I thought this was weird, I asked for the name of the guy that I was talking to. His phone number; the phone number links me to a 1-900 number that says that it will charge me 9 dollars a minute. I thought it was affiliated with my college, since my college was doing some type of credit card reward thing. They insisted that it was mandatory that I gave my SS# and they went on for about 5 minutes. I made the huge mistake of giving my number. I never asked for a credit card in the first place, I don't give out personal information, I'm actually cautious, but I had to get rid of them somehow, and hanging the phone was not one of my choices at that moment. I don't know if it is a scam, I don't know that this is the way they do their business. They sound like a scam or rip-off but are they legit? We as young students are tricked, since we are vulnerable. This is not a justification but its true. I don't know where they got all my information. They said that I was going to receive a kit of some sort. But I'm more worried about identity theft. I sent 3 e-mail to the customer service at Clout.com. And I sent 2 complains to the FTC and one phone call to the FTC. I would like to hear some other experiences because I need to know if this is the way they do their business.

Beware Notify The Federal Trade Commission At www.ftc.gov

01/27/2005
I never requested a card just information when the lady called me at my college dorm in October 2005. A Visa card arrived with my name on it so I activated it. I was notified in January by phone that I was delinquent in payment. When I asked what billing address was used(The customer service rep told me they weren't required to send a bill which doesn't sound right) I was told my college PO Box. I explained that I was home on winter break for 4 weeks so I had never received one. I was told that I had incurred late fees and a finance charge. I told them to change my billing address to my home address and waive the late fees as mail constantly gets lost at the college PO Box. I was told no so I asked them to cancel the card. This supervisor named Christina started accusing me of impersonating myself and she refused to cancel the card. I had to wait until my mother came home and get on the extension in order for them to believe that I was who I claimed to be before they would cancel my card which I'm not sure they have as they refuse to send me verification. I will be notifying the FTC about these practices which others should do also. Also check into the Fair Credit Billing Act which protects you against fraudulent charges, billing errors and suing the creditor if they violate this act.

I was tricked into this card like many other unsuspecting college kids. I was paying all the payments and never really using the card except for emergencies. One day I went to use the card and it wasn't in my wallet. Someone had stolen it. I called clout to report it stolen and they gave me an attitude. The person had run up about $548 on my card. The people I talked to at clout gave me a hard time about the charges saying over and over to make sure that I didn't purchase those items. Then as if that wasn't enough they did pretty much nothing about the theft and I ended up having to pay off the whole card. I went to the police but clout was useless. I was and still am a poor college student so that pretty much took all my money that I was saving. I would never recommend this card to anyone.

If you use this card correctly you can build credit

08/02/2004
This card is just like any other card geared towatrds college students,or first time card holders. If you use and pay on the card monthly, you can build up your credit. If you abuse the card and do not pay, you will damage your credit, that is the same with any credit card out there. Too many people try to blame the company for problems they have, like missing payments, fees and or interest. OF COURSE IT HAS HIGH INTEREST! It's for college students. Once you build up your credit, you can get a lower interest card. Bottom line, take responsibility for yourself, use the card wisely and pay on time. Educate yourself on credit and credit cards, if you screw up, they can make alot of money off of you.

I was solicited over the phone for this card, that surprised me, but I wanted a better card. The customer service is good, they are available 24 hours a day. lack of accountability

03/17/2004
When I was upgraded to a platinum visa card, I discovered that Clout had made a mistake in transcribing my social security number. It has been seven days and they still cannot rectify the situation. I can't activate my new card and now the old gold card doesn't work. I was assured by two supervisors that this problem would be corrected by a certain date. When it still wasn't fixed, a new supervisor was rude, abusive, and told me I would have to start the process all over again. I've spent a week on this and don't have the time to undo their mistakes and put up with further incompetence. I will have to pursue this because they are using someone else's social security number and won't correct the problem. Don't get involved with this group!

AVOID THIS CARD

02/09/2004
I was interrupted one early morning while trying to study in my apartment by a lady demanding that I verify some information with her. Then she wanted more information and I stupidly gave it to her....I was too tired and confused to think about what I was doing. She talked way too fast and when I asked what it was for, she gave me a very vague answer and before I knew it, I got a card in the mail that I didn't even want. There was no application process, and I didn't even know I would be receiving a credit card with an INCREDIBLY high interest rate. You can find much better deals out there without the psycho people that call innocent college students at bad times and hassle them into giving out information. Horrible company and horrible card.

Telephone Scam soliciting college students for VISA card

02/02/2004
The asian female reprentative called my dorm room and asked personal questions of me. She did not identify herself over the phone nor did she mention that she was taking an application for a visa card. She knew my home phone, telephone number, dorm room telephone number, wanted my social security number and other personal information all the way down to my favorite color (which she mentioned would be the color of my card). I am appalled that a credit card company would stoop so low as to solicit applications over the telephone anomyously with a person that could not be understood by any english speaking or hearing person.

Trustworthy Credit

Clout.com offers a wonderful way for the emerging college student to begin to build a strong credit future. The APR, even after the introductory rate, it extremely reasonable. Clout.com staff has always been available and helpful to me, whether I was on the phone or communicating by mail. The design of the card is aesthetically pleasing and geared toward a younger crowd. Although I now have several credit cards, Clout.com was my first and probably the one I trust the most. I appreciate that there is no annual fee involved with the clout credit card as well. Clout sucks!!

04/08/2003
The clout credit card is the worst card I have ever gotten. It seems like that each time I get my statement, my balance is exactly the same. The interest rates are too high. Clout tracks down new college students who don't have the slightest idea about credit cards and curses them with a very high interest rate. I do not advise anyone to get this card, because it will seem like you will be paying forever on it!!

I love Clout for giving me my start when I had zero credit, they do increase your limit if you pay on time, but their APR kills me. It has hiked up in the few years I've had the card, probably because of other people's inability to manage their finances...well, I am not paying for other people's mistakes anymore. I am switching cards asap. I am still a student and I do often carry a balance and I'd rather not pay huge interest rates.

I think that the majority of those who provided a less than perfect review of the Clout Visa card are simply looking for something to complain about just because they had one bad experience with a customer service representative and thought to seek revenge by posting a paragraph or two online. Get over it. I have enjoyed using my Clout Visa card and I was happy to find a company that would help me begin building my credit (since I have none) and trust me with a high credit limit and allow me time to pay it off. The APR is high because of that, by the way. Alrite, that's all I wanted to say. Goodbye.

Snake in the Grass

03/13/2003
Clout Visa is nothing but trouble. I have even heard this from some magazine such as Rolling Stone and Men's Journal. They have completly turned me off towards any credit card. They are just a sham and that is all they will be. They treat me like a wallet and thats all they will treat anyone like. They are going to report me to the credit bea over five dollars and some change unless they get it by tomorrow. Sure why not. If I can make a phone call and start charing someone for something they ended up not wanting (Before I even activated the card, which I never did do) and get five dollars out of them I'm doing good. The figures are is I get five dollars from 100,000 people I'm scored $500,000 Not to shabby. Shoot they might even scam people for more than five dollars also. In a few words clout visa is indeed the traditional snake in the grass. Thank you.

While I have only held this card for a relatively short time, under a year, I already feel as if there could be more. It is a simple process to apply and obtain the card. 12/18/2002
This company signed me up for a card when all I wanted was them to send me information. I made the mistake of giving them my address over the phone and then I received a statement as if a card in my name was already active. I sent the statement back saying that I had not signed up for a card and to cancel the account. A month or two later I received a statement for $64.50! $29.00 was for some sort of "limited edition", $35.00 was for a late fee and $.50 was for a finance charge. Talk about a rip off. I had to call two different companies to try to get it cancelled and I'm still not sure if they did. I'll have to wait a month to be sure. BE CAREFUL, and don't give out ANY information to these credit card people over the phone!

as a recent college graduate, all i can say is this: you DO NOT need a credit card. it may be nice to be able to buy some extra things for yourself using this card, but you must ask yourself: can you really expect yourself to pay off a $600-$1000 credit card bill ON YOUR OWN while you're still in college? and often while you're unemployed!!!???!?! seriously...pose that question to yourself. this card offers some of the highest interest rates on the market, as well as some of the highest fees for cash advances, late fees, and overlimit fees. and the worst "scam" they pull is this: if you pay double what a normal minimum payment would be for a month, they'll tell you you're pre-paid for the next month. that's great if you can't swing the payment, but they're just ca-chinging on all the interest you're accruing. DON'T DO IT!!! DON'T GET A CARD THROUGH THIS COMPANY!!! the staff that supports the card is wonderful, but the jerks behind it are all about making an easy dollar. they DO NOT have your best interest in mind!!!!

Avoid Clout.com!

07/21/2001
When I first signed up for this particular Visa it was issued by Webbanc.com and I would have to say that initially I was very pleased with the card, their Customer Service was excellent and you could access your card information at any time on the web. A few months ago WebBanc was acquited by Clout.com and ever since dealing with them has been an ongoing nightmare. Before acquisition my average hold time with the CS department was a few minutes max, now I routinely hold for 30-45 minutes. It is also nearly impossible to access your card info from their website. One of the main sell points for this card is the fact that they claim you're account info is so accessible. Another problem I've encountered is the serivce they offer with which they can deduct the balance you owe their company directly from your checking account. When I first heard about it I thought that it would be incredibly handy and I would never have to worry about setting aside my statement and forgetting to mail my payment in on time. Apparently they had one character wrong in my account sequence so they were never able to deduct the monies from my account. Rather than notifying me the first time this problem arose they waiting three months, charging late fees, interest and finance charges all the while. It took a little over a month to get the problem resolved and the negative rating removed from my credit report. The best advice I can give, STAY AWAY!
