"Whatever HSBC does, it is your fault"
I've had the CompUSA card for about four years and no real problems until I moved to DC in December of 2008. I had my mail forwarded to a UPS Store mailbox in January 2009. I received four bills from CompUSA in January, February, March, and April. Then, no bill for May. I get a bill in June and I promptly paid it and the late fee. No bill for July and I received the August bill on August 27th. There was a past due charge and even though I had until September 9th, I went ahead and sent out the check on August 28th.

On that same day, I get a call from their collections department. The customer service rep sounded like he was reading from a script, so I interrupted him and told him that I sent out the check. He told me that wasn't good enough and he needed the money now. So, I went ahead and did a check by mail. It took ten minutes because the fellow's accent was so thick I could barely understand what he was saying especially when he repeated the numbers back. I then asked if he would verify my address and he became rather testy about that question. I then asked if there was a way to pay this online and he told me the URL (that took another ten minutes because of the accent). I protested the check over the phone fee because it was their fault that they didn't mail a statement to me. He argued that it was the Post Office's fault and that I should contact them but he eventually waived the fee. All in all, he was rude and just wouldn't accept my word that I mailed in the payment.

I had a similar situation with my bills not coming from Amazon.com's Store Card. Their representatives have always been pleasant and a pleasure to work with. They listen first and work with you to solve the problem. In my case, I just needed to have them correct the address and I was quite happy to do a check over the phone to catch up in the meantime.

The difference here is that one company listens to the customer and admits when it is their fault rather than become defensive and treats the customer like they don't want to pay the bill.

"They ruined my credit"
I paid my account off in full January 2009 of the full balance of 2500 something dollars. Never heard from them again. Great! recently we got in an accident and the other drivers insurance totaled our car and yesterday they gave us a check to get a new one. We go to apply for an auto loan through the credit union, my credit score is 601, my wife's is just under 700. There was a 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 day delinquency on my credit report from household for 47 dollars. I called them and they asked me if I wanted to pay it or dispute it. I disputed it, and then the second CSR looks at it and says, it was a fee that was posted on the account 2 weeks after it was paid in full and closed. He says they can fix it and transferred me to someone else who said the same thing. I was transferred to a 4th person and put on hold while she talked with her manager. She came back and household bank said that even though it was a mistake, since I was issued the bill through the mail (which I never got) that I was obligated to pay the 15 dollars plus the 37 dollars in late fees and interest. I argued back and forth, then they were willing to cut me a 'deal'. I only have to pay 19 dollars. I said get the manager on the phone, and after arguing and stating that its not about whether a bill was mailed to me or not, its about the very deceptive business practices they were doing. This went back and forth and finally they wiped out the balance. I still have to go to all the credit bureaus now and dispute this on my credit reports. I am getting loan now for a new car, but I have to call Household to get them to fax me a zero balance statement, and Im now on hold for 41 minutes.

These people should be incarcerated for extortion.

"DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH COMPUSA OR HSBC!!!!!!"
my husband and i purchased a laptop in mar of 06 at which time we were told it was 36 mos no interest or payments. come april we receive a statement. minimum payment 11.00. i decide to pay it not thinking it was optional. then comes may and i realize we hadn't received a statement. my husband called c.s. they say the statement had been sent back so they would resend another, he also asked about paying online and was told that wasn't an option but we could pay by phone for a fee. weeks and weeks
go by and nothing finally in june we received a statement, the june statement not may. i sent a check and all seemed well. then comes july, no statement. i think nothing of it because i think weve got deferred payments and interest. i then start receiving phone calls the last week of july from hsbc stating we owe a 57.00 payment( a 35.00 late fee and two 11.00 minimum payments) i'm thinking what the heck. so my husband calls c.s. again. to get an explanation. apparently we aren't on a 36 mos. deferred payment and interest only a deferred interest. well, we were told completely different by a compusa employee. so for five minutes my husband argues with the csr explaining that we hadnt recieved our statement once again. he says that it's our responsibility to pay statement or no statement because you can pay online. that was the first time we had been informed. so we then asked to speak to supervisor and basically we were told that there was nothing they "could" do. Translation they WOULD do absolutely nothing to help us although we had only received two statements they had noted we had called in May and requested a statement, it also showed that a statement had been returned to them but yet they "couldn't" do anything. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH COMPUSA OR HSBC

"Oh Boy"
OK, I thought my account was finally paid off. I made the last payment via online/online banking. After I made what was my final payment ( I thought)I get no more bills mailed to my home address. Ok, the bill is paid off. Nope, almost a year later I find out that I still owe money on my account. The company never attempted to contact me for payment or anything. Terrible service, don't get this card......

"Customer Service - Racheal #GG8"
On 2 Apr 02, I contacted Racheal #GG8, and asked for the pay-off balance. Due to my husbands primary account status Racheal declined to inform me of the balance, eventhough I'm on the account. Both my husband are deployed with the Army (husband-Kuwait/me-Israel). I was told that I needed to call him and have him talk to them. Has anyone seen the news. We don't have to much communication. There has to be a better way!!!

"Disappointed"
I opened my account May, 2002. I bought my husband a new lap top on a 6 mos. deferral. We paid it off within 3 mos. At Christmas I bought him a new computer for home, with the understanding that it would be a 6 mos. deferral. In January we got a statement, but did not open it, because I thought we had a 6 mos. deferral. In February we get a letter stating we missed the January payment. I promptly called and made payment over the phone and explained that I understood it was a 6 mos. dererral. They said no I was mistaken. They also said that my account was closed because of my 30 day late payment. I checked my credit report and they reported it! We purchased several thousands of dollars of equipment from them within a year, one 30 day late because of a misunderstanding and they put it on my credit report. All I can say is beware!

"Hurt your credit with no warning"
I had a 6 month no payment no interest option and I exchanged something and I was not told it would no longer be under the 6 month option. So when I got my bill I put it aside thinking I had six months to pay. 8 months later I try to apply for a loan for a house and they tell me I have a mark for a delinquent payment. I had never received one letter saying they were going to mark my credit or I would have called them that minute to find out why. When I wrote them a letter regarding the matter they said there was nothing they can do despite the fact that I was making $500-$1000 payments a month and have since closed it. I wouldn't be surprised that with the lack of intelligent customer service in the CompUSA stores, that this happens most often than we know and in the end the consumer gets screwed!!!
