| "COMPASS BANK GOLD CARD" |
| THIS CREDIT CARD OFFERS HIGH INTEREST RATES ON PURCHASES, AND LOW BALANCE TRANSFER RATES FOR A VERY SHORT PERIODS OF TIME, USUALLY AROUND FOUR MONTHS. THERE ARE HIGH HIDDEN FEES FOR USING THE CONVENIENCE CHECKS. I WAS ONCE SENT CONVENIENCE CHECKS FROM THIS INSTITUTION WITH AN ENTICING OFFER TO TRANSFER BALANCES OVER $1000 AT A LOW RATE, AND RECEIVE A COUPON BOOK CONTAINING $3OO WORTH OF SAVINGS FOR A VARIETY OF THINGS. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF TRANSFER FEES IN THIS LETTER. USING THE ENCLOSED CHECKS, I TRANSFERRED $1500 FROM ANOTHER CREDIT CARD. WHEN THE BILL FROM COMPASS ARRIVED, I WAS CHARGED HUNDREDS. THE COUPON BOOK WAS NEVER SENT, AND CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. AFTER VOICING MY CONCERNS SEVERAL TIMES, I WAS EVENTUALLY SENT A COUPON FOR 50% OFF OF SHOES AT KMART, NOT TO EXCEED A $10 VALUE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE IS ANTIQUATED. THERE IS A LONG WAIT BEFORE SPEAKING TO A LIVE REPRESENTATIVE. THE REPRESENTATIVES ARE AVAILABLE FOR ONLY LIMITED DAILY HOURS. WHEN CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES CAN BE REACHED, THEY LACK BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR RULES AND PROCEDURES, WHICH IS THEIR VERY JOB FUNCTION. I HAVE ALSO BEEN CHARGED LATE FEES TWICE, FOR PAYMENTS MADE LONG BEFORE THE DUE DATE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES SAID THAT THEIR CHECK PROCESSING CAN TAKE AS MUCH AS TEN DAYS. AFTER SPEAKING TO CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPERVISORS, AND THREATENING TO CANCEL THE CARD, THESE CHARGES WERE EVENTUALLY WAIVED. |
