"BAD" card for bad credit

03/26/2005
I had been a customer of CCB. I had TWO of their cards, so you can imagine the fees I was hit with every month. This is THE most horrible card you can ever think of having.. They hit you with application fees, processing fees, telephone fees to check your balance or payment posted, they hit you with high annual fees and even fees of 50-100 dollars to increase your limit (should you be so fortunate) My credit score dropped significantly due to my having this card. I was drowning in the unmanageable and ever growing debt with this company. Not only did they rob me blind, but they harassed me in the process. They called my home ALL day, and even late at night. They called my job CONSTANTLY. They would give my "overlimit" status to who ever picked up the phone. I have finally gotten away with them. I would not recommend these people to ANYONE, especially not someone in a delicate credit situation. I now have capital one cards and a card from Houselhold bank, and I couldn't be more thrilled.

You can get back at CCB.

03/29/2004
As the previous reviewer said, the company is in *major* trouble and things only continue to get worse. The "customer" service center located in Boca Raton, FL has only about 600 employees now, down from around 2000 over the last 18 months. The FDIC's cease-and-desist order will be two years old on May 15th and they thought it would have been lifted by now. Be a thorn in their side, write complaints to the FDIC and your state's attorney general. Start or join a class action lawsuit. Let your voice be heard. Advise everyone you know to avoid CCB. Nobody needs to have collectors calling every day several times a day. Nobody needs their credit record made worse by a credit card.
Most Attractive Feature: CCB is imploding.
Least Attractive Feature: Agressive and relentless collection practices.

Cross Country Bank Silver Preferred

02/08/2004
This company has to be in trouble. Fee's for everything - Participation Fee - $6.00, Fee to call them with a question - .50 cents. Fee to make internet payment - $6.75!! Fee's on top of Fee's. High interest rates. NOT worth it. Don't even apply...you'll be sorry!! I am finally in a position to transfer my balance out of there.

Pleasantly Shocked at Cross Country Bank/ Customer Service

11/23/2003
I've had the card f/ 4 years, and I was not too impressed with it. In the past, I had called customer service about various issues and was told X-Country didn't offer accomodations or considerations for customers. HOWEVER-times have changed. My husband was in a catastrophic accident (2 months after I had our second baby)and was totally disabled. I have gone back and forth with my creditors until I was seeing double. Cross Country Bank was the first to give me special consideration for my situation, and we negotiated a payment plan that I could work with. Their agent got my monthly payments $30.00 lower than any of their programs offered. They also dropped the delinquent fees imposed on my account since my husbands accident and lowered my APR by 5.25%. Their agents were very thorough, patient and always followed up. This was VERY contrary to what I experienced at CITIBANK with my platinum MC.
Most Attractive Feature: Recently customer service has greatly improved.

Cards should automatically be cancelled when over the limit.

07/04/2003
My account balance exceeded the limit when a payment was late and in the small print crediting the payment to the card along with an over the limit charge. Now you would think that the card would be cancelled since it had reached the maximum amount allowed to be charged. However the following month when I was unable to financially meet my required payments, which by the way I highly suggest to everyone to take out the insurance these credit cards offer in case of unemployment or injury. Anyway what I don't understand is now over a year later my limit of $1,000 credit has gone to a maximum of over $3,000 due. I also received notice that my annual fee will be billed on next month's statement. And that I only could avoid the fee by writing to terminate the account. Shouldn't the company automatically cancel the card holder knowing they will not be utilizing the card any time soon until the debt is paid off. The variable of my apr also went up from the original what I thought ok of an APR for a first timer of 19% to an incredible 29.99. New Credit Card seekers beware. It is the easy credit cards that really stick it to us as a first time user. Realize that if you only make the minimum payment amount due that after using the amount and making payments on time, sure they will give you more credit only to forever pay the interest, oh yes I forgot to tell you that because the charge to the card for the payment of the credit is considered a cash withdraw another fee is added to already overdue, over the limit credit card. Finally they have sent it to a collection agency and it is on my TRW. The last time I used the card was in the year 2001. My bill every month has been getting charged $72.98 to itself for participation fees, finance charges, overlimit fees, later fees, and a cash advance fee because I was unable to write and send a letter while incarcerated, yes I went to jail and now automatically my credit card was going out on the town.
Most Attractive Feature: They were the first to offer credit for a charge of $49.00 to the card.
Least Attractive Feature: If overlimit and late, the payment is charged to the card with two penalty charges.

CHARGES PRACTICES

06/18/2003
THEY DESERVE TO BE OUT OF BUSINESS: FIRST OFF MY PAYMENTS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MADE. THIS PAST MONTH THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT AFTER GIVING ME A ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE DOLLAR INCREASE. NO IN CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN EXPLAIN WHY BUT THAT IF I WANTED TO OPEN IT AGAIN IT WOULD COST $50.OO. THEY ALSO ADDED A $6.OO A MONTH PARTICIPATION FEE BECAUSE THE ACCOUNT WAS OVER $1000 DOLLARS. THIS ALL HAVING NOT REQUEST EITHER THE INCREASE NOR THE ACCOUNT TO BE CLOSED. YOU WONDER WHY THEY ARE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH PRACTICES LIKE THIS? I TO WILL BE WRITING MY ATTORNEY GENERAL AND ANY OTHER LEGAL AUTHORITY.

Cross Country - don't let it cross your mind to get this card!

06/13/2003
I've had Cross Country for about 5 years or so now. They were very good to me in the beginning. They gave me regular increases, their customer service was friendly, even though you had to call long distance. I knew about the fees they were charging ( they are in the original terms of the account - so these fees everyone complains about should not complain too much about them, although the new participation fee they started implementing is a little more than annoying). Now the interest rate is through the roof, I never can get another increase ever on this account according to the CSR I s/w. She said " I am at the highest credit limit possible - $2850." I asked her if this was actually true because she didn't have to lie to me - if I didn't qualify for one, I can take it like a man, but no she actually said that I had the highest credit limit for the Silver Preferred Card. I find it highly difficult to believe that $2850 is the highest rate available. My credit is actually much better now than what it was when I got this card, but nevermind that - CCB doesn't care. To top everything off, I got calls from CCB this past Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday on my voice mail while I was out asking me to call them back. Turns out they were concerned with my Overlimit status. I was a whopping $14 over my limit due to all their fees. To call me 3 consecutive business days for $14 when my payment was due 3 days later and was going to be paid anyways is RIDICULOUS! I'm quite happy about the rumors of their demise. I hope their CEO's lose their jobs and find out when their credit gets shot how fun it will be to get a card like CCB.

Cross Country Bank - preferred Visa, the worst Credit card

06/04/2003
To those who are re-establishing their credit, do not apply for this card. Shop elswhere. You can do better. My account with CCB has always in good standing, but I can't wait until I pay them off. Their interest rate is outrageous, even for those who have had credit problems. They even charge you a fee to check your balance on the internet or by phone. I never was crazy about the card, but the last straw was when they recently started charging monthly participation fees of $6.00 for cardholders who owe $1,000 or more. I cut that card up. I will just continue to pay until paid in full. With CCB, you might as well be paying the mafia.

What comes around, goes around.

06/04/2003
Although it is not exactly earth shattering we must allow the various state lawsuits from NY, MN, and NH to work their way through the legal system. I hope and believe they will be successful. It turns out that CCB and ACS's bad behaviour is well documented and well known. This is a link to the FDIC's cease & desist order: http://www.fdic.gov/bank/individual/enforcement/11932.html The audit was completed just a few weeks ago and now we are waiting on the outcome which should be very bad for the bank. I expect by year end Cross Country Bank & Applied Card Systems will either be shut down or plans will be made but not announced to relocate all operations to PA in the final downsize.

State Attorney Generals; Where are you?

05/17/2003
i have been a member of CCB since the 80's and as mentioned in previous letters the interest rates, fees, and penalties are ludicrous. I am now stationed in Seoul, South Korea and if CCB new they would not allow me to use my card out of the US. I received a letter just before I departed for Seoul (February) stating that the company was initiating a new fee to cards carrying a $1000.00 or higher credit line... this is called a participation fee, which is in addition to the annual fee. I had to send in a signed statement refusing entry into the program; However, i was told that if I make a purchase or cash advance on the card after 1 April, '03 I would be assessed the new participation fee of $100.00 plus dollars. It would be prorated at $6.00 each month even if I carried a zero balance. Thank the Lord that my Silver Preferred card is paid off and my Gold card ($500.00 limit) is as well... I just pray that when I decide to close the two accounts i will not have to endure the headaches that so many of the others have endured.

DO NOT DEAL WITH CROSS COUNTRY BANK!

11/18/2002
Even if your credit is poor, do not deal with this bank. Their interest rate is unreasonable. I was in good standing with these folks for 10 years. If my payment was delayed in the mail once or twice during heavy mail times, they would not hesatate to call me the day the payment was due, but when I made an over payment once, It took them over a month to respond. After making a payment of over $4,000 they called me the following month because they mailed my bill to the wrong address. They wanted to know why I was late on a $20 ballance. When I explained that I never recieved a bill and was unaware that I owed any ballance, they asked me to pay by check by phone. When I over paid by over $7,000, I asked them to return the over payment. They explained that the large amount would require them to take a month and a half to repay. I asked why they would want me to pay check by phone, but felt it okay to take a month and a half to pay back. They responded that it was the amount. I told them that it did not take me a month and a half to pay them over $4,000 once, nor did it take me a month and a half to pay them a $7,000 payment another time. I asked for 26.9% interest on the money owed to me and they laughed. It seems that they would never consider dealing with someone that would want their money in such a quick time period, nor would they consider paying thay ridiculous interest rate. 26.9% is the interest rate that Cross Coutry charges their customers!

Cross Country Bank Credit Card - The worst available.

11/12/2002
I paid my card off with an on line payment of $2800.00 which cleared my bank the next day. Ten days later my payoff was still not posted to my account. When I called customer service I was informed by Debbie (she wouldn't share her last name of allow me to speak with a supervisor) that it was Cross Country Banks procedure to not post amounts until the amount is verified. I explained that the funds had cleared my bank the same day, but she said they would not post until after 10 business days no matter when the funds cleared. Debbie then refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor and became rude when I asked her to close my account. I will never do business with this bank again!

Silver Preferred For Who?

10/26/2002
This is the worst card. How can they have the nerve to call it silver preferred. After being with this company for 8 years, they still charge an annual fee of $50.00. I do not have the right to cancel the card unless I can pay off the whole balance the following month. After being a good customer for 8 years, I was 30 days late on a payment. My annual interest rate was raised to 26.99 per cent. Once I have paid off my balance, I will send this card back to headquarters in Florida. Then they can take their card and stick it where the sun does not shine. In case you have never been to Florida, that does not give them many options on where to stick it.

DON'T SUPPORT CROSS COUNTRY

08/30/2002
This is my first time ever to write a review but my voice has to be heard! Not only by you but by this corporation, Cross Country. I'm planning on taking this to the top! My experience with my silver prefered card card has been the worst ever! The customer service is/was terrible and the charges they are currently billing me are false! I don't enjoy disputing with companies so typically I would just pay them. My account has been closed with the final payment in April '02. I get charged again in May '02 so I figure it's a late fee so I pay it. Once June '02 rolls around I am charged once again...I said "NO" this has to stop. I contacted the company several times and received terrible customer service. Finally, a supervisor says he'll credit my account the late fee of approximately $30.00. Of course, that did not happen so I was continously being charged a late fee that was accruing finance charges...so in AUGUST '02 I get fed up and just pay them $110.00 off a letter that said pay by August 31 and I'm finished! I sent this payment in the beginning of the month so they posted it earlier in the month...AND NOW I get a statement today with yet ANOTHER LATE FEE! This company is rediculous!!

Do Yourself a Favor and DO NOT get a Cross Country Bank Card

08/18/2002
This company takes advantage of its cardholders whenever possible. They charge 100.00 to your account after granting you a credit line increase, the phone pay charge is 7.00 per transaction, and I don't believe they even offer cards with interest rates of less than 20%. You may need a credit card, but you DO NOT need one from Cross Country Bank. You are not that desperate!!!

Rip Off Consumers

07/23/2002
We have a CCB silver card and it has to be the worst mistake we have ever made financially. They rip us off every month on fees. We usually pay off the card in full every other month, which by the way, they hate. Now, I'm going through a problem of, I paid off the account in full. When I called to check my balance and make sure that payment had been received. Oh yes, they got my payment but refuse to update my account!!! They said it will take 14 days to do that. I said well since you clearly received payment a head of time, I refuse to pay any late fees or finance charges next month because of your company not doing their job. Not only did one customer service expert ( big joke) become outraged, she got another one on the phone and she became even worse. I repeatedly asked to speak with a supervisor or a person in their security department. Rhonda & Debbie (not their real names I'm sure) say that I cannot speak to anyone other than them. I kept demanding to speak with someone else and Debbie hung on me. After I had been on the phone with these pieces of trash for over 26 minutes paying long distance charges to fix their problem. To anyone out there considering getting a card from these people, please forget it. The are scam artist. I am contacting the attorney general's office about them. If there is ever a clas action law suit against these people, I'll be the first one to jump on the train.

Replacing a lost card

07/13/2002
When I lost my credit cards a few months ago, I called all the issuers and obtained replacements. Without exception, all issuer reps were courteous (some even sympathetic), and without exception, I received replacements quickly. Among the cards was the Cross-Country Card. I had followed the instructions on the back of the bill, called the number, and gave them the information. I was utterly shocked to receive a statement a few weeks later charging me $30 to replace the card (a card I had not used in 2 years). I called the number, but frankly couldn't get through and thought it was a correctable error on their part. The following month, I received a statement with a $30 past due charge + an add'l $30 late fee! The third month the statement charged me $30 for the card + $60 in late fees! When I cancelled over the phone I was never advised of the fee. There is nothing on the billing summary on the flip side of the bills. There is nothing about the fee on their FAQ section of their website. I am still reeling that they believe they are legally entitled to dun me $90 for a piece of plastic (which one doesn't need to make an online or phone purchase), as opposed to actually extending me any credit. This is unscrupulous.

WORST CREDIT CARD EVER!!

03/15/2002
I WAS LOYAL TO THIS CARD BECAUSE THIS WAS MY FIRST MAJOR CARD. BUT WITH THE FEES, I WAS GETTING NO PLACE FAST. IF YOU GET A CREDIT INCREASE, IT WOULD COST YOU $100. I HAVE EXCELLENT CREDIT, BUT APPLIED FOR AND GOT THIS CARD BECAUSE AT THE TIME I HAD NO CREDIT AT ALL. THEY GAVE ME A "SILVER PREFERRED CARD" DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY ACCOUNT WAS MANAGED IN AN EXCELLENT MANNER (THEIR WORDS). THEY TOLD ME WITH THE SILVER PREFERRED CARD WAS BETTER DUE TO NO FEES. THIS WAS A LIE! I FINALLY GOT THE CHANCE TO TRANSFER MY BALANCE WITH THIS CARD TO A MORE REPUTABLE CREDIT CARD COMPANY, AND PAID THEM OFF. THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY PAID CROSS COUNTRY BANK ON 3/8/02. I MADE A REGULAR PAYMENT ON 3/5/02. MY ACCOUNT'S CLOSING DATE WAS 3/11/02. INSTEAD OF POSTING THE PAYMENT TO PAY THE ACCOUNT IN FULL ON THE DATE THEY RECEIVED FULL PAYMENT, THEY WAITED UNTIL AFTER MY CLOSING DATE AND POSTED THE PAYMENT IN ORDER TO CHARGE ME FINANCE CHARGES. I CALLED CROSS COUNTRY AND TOLD THEM I KNOW THE PAYMENT BALANCE WAS THERE ON 3/8/02 OR ON 3/9/02, AND WOULD THEY CREDIT BACK THE FINANCE CHARGES, AND WAS TOLD NO. I EXPRESSED TO THEM HOW GLAD I WAS TO BE FROM UNDER THEIR CLUTCHES. WHEN I CALLED CROSS COUNTRY BANK TO HAVE THEM CLOSE THIS ACCOUNT, THE REP HAD THE NERVE TO ASK ME WHY I WANTED TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT. SO SHE LEFT THE DOOR OPEN FOR ME TO TELL HER JUST WHAT I THINK OF THEIR CARD!! NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY'VE LOST A DARN GOOD CUSTOMER! I ALSO WORK FOR A DEBT REPAYMENT PROGRAM. MOST CREDITORS WILL GIVE CUSTOMERS CONCESSIONS SUCH AS LOWER THE INTEREST, ELIMINATE LATE AND OVER THE LIMIT FEES, ETC. CROSS COUNTRY BANK DOES NOTHING FOR A CUSTOMER WHO FALLS ON BAD TIMES AND DOESN'T WANT TO FILE BANKRUPTCY, AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY WILL ACCESS A $10 MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FEE ON EACH ACCOUNT THAT GOES THRU A DEBT REPAYMENT PROGRAM.

I am presently working on paying off the 2 cards that I have. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They are customer service oriented. I think if enough people payoff their cards and cut them up, we can put them out of business. If your due date is on a week-end, and the payment doesn't get posted until the Monday after that week-end, they still charge you a late fee.

Not a bad card at all

12/04/2001
I am one of the weird cases who has NOT had a bad time with Cross Country Bank. They were the first company to give me credit after I was rebuilding credit three years ago. At first it was just their regular card, then within six months they upgraded me to silver preferred. In all the time I had the card, I had no problems with them. Overlimit and late fees that were charged were due to my mis-management. Then, last year I closed this account because I was trying to consolidate credit. The company was quick and accurate, closed the account. I almost have the account paid off, balance has been going down steadily, payments have been applied. The only problem was that when I had my address changed after I moved, it took three months to get that addressed. The customer service rep actually apologized for this. It is hard to get a customer service rep, however. But in general this bank has not ripped me off in the way others have described. Maybe I'm lucky.

What's all the crying about?

11/20/2001
I've had my CCB card for over a year and yes, my interest rate is high. But I knew that when I applied. Yes I have received over the limit fees twice...but guess what? I was OVER MY LIMIT. I've never had a problem with my payments posting and I ALWAYS use the U.S. mail method. I haven't had to contact customer service so I can't comment on that. I've read about people compaining about phone calls they receive...seems like if you owed me a few hundred dollars, I'd call you until I got it too! Bottom line is if you pay your bill on time and are responsible enough to not go over your limit, you probably won't have problems with this card like I haven't had. I am currently trying to pay off this card (because my credit is now good enough that I don't want an open CCB card on my report) and am successfully doing so by paying $50 PLUS whatever the interest was for that month. This way every month, the balance goes down by 50 bucks as long as I don't charge anything new. Simple arithmetic and it works! Hopefully, my track record will continue to be good with the closing process since I've had the opposite experience of most people thus far.

The WORST Credit Card you could get! BEWARE!!!!

10/24/2001
I got my 2 cross country credit cards (MC & Visa) after my bankruptcy to re-establish my credit. I maintained my payments on time for 4 years! I was hospitalized and couldn't make my payments. The fees alone drove a $28 min. payment upwards of $90! This only compounded the problem in the next couple of months. Not only did they hit me with over the limit fees & late fees but my interest rate went to 29.99%! I receive on average of 7-12 calls per day! If I make arrangements for payments, I am promised no more calls and 10 minutes later, they call and have no idea whatsoever that anyone else has contacted me already. The calls don't stop as promised. All other crediors put me in their hardship program except CCB. They told me to make 6 months of payments by echeck and they would drop my interest rate and stop the fees. I did this! I asked (during one of their many calls) why my rate hadn't dropped and fees stopped. They told me no one ever put me in the hardship program, the account was "re-aged" so I didn't get any breaks. Even during these 6 months with regular on time payments, I was repeatedly harassed for full payment by several calls a day. There would be so many that my answering machine tape would be full in 8 hours. They even called at 9:30pm on Sunday nights! Please DO NOT get this card. It's easy to get, but heaven forbid if you miss one payment. My original $1200 balance (even with $100/month payments) has ballooned to $2600 in less than 18 months. Please....BEWARE. They are incooperative, abusive, demeaning, and completely unorganized. One department will call while I am talking to another! I can't wait til the day I am debt free from them, but again with their rates and fees, I never will be!

As a beginning cardholder, I enjoyed this card. I was trying to build credit, and it helped. I could have done without the high fee, but with new credit you come to expect it nowdays. I think they could improve on charges, especially on first time late fees and overlimit fees. Especially after having the card for 4 yrs with an excellent record. I like they're online payment even for a small fee. It's an ok first card....

Cross Country Silver Preferred Card - Poor Customer Service!

08/15/2001
I started using the CCB Silver Preferred credit cards (both Visa and Mastercard)in 1996 to re-establish my credit. While the initial experience was generally good, CCB made many promises to help build my credit limits over time, provided that I made all payments on time, for which I did. However, the only time I actually received a credit increase was after having paid a $99.00 fee for each time that I wanted the increase. This occurred 8 times over 5 years. Additionally, I was notified that due to my excellent payment history with CCB, I would be receiving upgraded credit cards with enhanced features. They never came. I finally cancelled my credit cards with CCB after many calls and long distance charges trying to get CCB to respond to inquiries about both the upgraded credit cards and credit line increases. I paid out over $800 to get credit limits of $2500 over 6 years (I basically paid myself for most of my credit line increases), only to have to close the accounts due to non-responsiveness to ignored requests and upgrade needs. I will never again use CCB credit cards and services and would never recommend them to anyone else. I know of four others who have had similar problems with CCB's customer service and who have since closed their accounts.

Cross Country Silver Unpreferred

08/15/2001
Since I became a customer of CC Bank I have yet to see any drop in interest even though I have never been late. They also recently changed the way (They said) that they draft your checking account and my bank did not recognize and refused payment even though the funds were available. I then received several "duns" for my "past due amount" with the insinuating comments like "protect your credit". I called several times and was told each time that the problem was resolved (the check had cleared by this time) and on my final call I was told that I COULD NOT speak to a supervisor because the supervisor couldn't do anything that customer service couldn't do themselves. We had to file bankruptcy some years back and I have taken great pains to pay EVERYTHING on time. It was quite an insult to receive this type of notice after paying on time for a number of years. Also, CC Bank promised to upgrade your account and other than an increased credit line that had to be paid for, I have not noticed any favorable rate or fee reduction for good customers. In closing, I would NEVER recommend this card to anyone. I will close my account as soon as the outstanding balance is paid in full.

Cross Country Bank #$%

05/01/2001
Cross Country Bank is the WORST credit card company ever. When I got their card two years ago I did not have perfect credit which is why I got their card. I have faithfully made payments to them on time for two years but they cannot seem to raise my credit line unless I pay them $100 for it. The credit limit I have with them is disgraceful compared to Providian which by the way knows how to treat their customers right. Cross Country Bank should take some lessons from them. Then they might not be the most hated bank around. Their customer service department is filled with nothing but morons and idiots. If anyone is considering a card from this bank take my advice... don't do it. Providian and Capital One are much better than these crooks.

Cross Country Bank

03/04/2001
Cross Country Bank has poor online service. It is very difficult to access their website services. Also, when faced with recent late payment charge that I felt was undeserved ( I do not have a history of overlimit or late payments) Cross Country Bank customer service people were very rude to me. They treated me like I was some kind of low life instead of a customer who may have a valid complaint. It took me months to get some of the overlimit fees removed from my acct, and I still had to pay lots of extra cash to get the problem resolved. All of this was due to a phone payment I made to At&t, which tecnically, after a $5.00 service charge put my acct about $3.00 over limit, with an overlimit fee of $29.00 tacked on to that. AND another overlimit fee on the next monthly billing cycle. It was a snowball effect which ended up costing me $210.00 plus wire fees to get straightened out. I do not like Cross Country Bank!

No way to reach the customer Service via 800 number. A charge of 50 cents to find out your account status. Their most recent scam is not return your canceled check....even through its drawn on your personal bank which is not connected with them--- Recently I received notice with my monthly statement that they are changing the terms of my Credit Card Agreement. These terms state that you they are going to keep my canceled check (truncation). I don't agree with this and want my canceled checks back …as proof that they cashed my check. I paid for the checks and this service through my bank. I also think that it's wrong for them to charge for a copy of my checks. I also think its wrong to charge to find out what my balance is via the telephone. While I am complaining why don't they have a telephone number on their statements where a real live person can be reached to discuss matters relating to your services. P.S. I cancelled my Cross Country Visa because I am sick and tired of their poor customer service and if my finance charges put me over my limit they tack on $27.00 for the over the limit fee. I have other credit cards with other institutions and that has never happed to me. They don't offer an 800 number but you must pay $.50 out of your account only to hear the automated line, this will not transfer you to a customer Rep. Us cardholders have to pay long distance charges to hear our account information and to speak to someone. It takes a while to finally get transferred to a rep. which cost us cardholders long distance charges. This institution is a complete rip off, not only on their service but the A.P.R. charges. That quickly became $68 on next bill, told after many trys to talk to someone, that interest still acrued on the amount I'd paid. Then the card was up for renewal, new came, never activated it by phone as requested. I cancelled that accts. They would not remove the $50 fee off the new card that I never renewed, said It would remain as a fee because I still had a balance. How can you ever pay these people off??? No grace period, have bill in hand, send that amt. in, in full and trust me - you'll still owe!! In my opinion, they are just no good, many other things I could say, but no room here. My husband & I have worked hard to re-establish our credit. We originally had a standard card with Cross Country Bank. Upon periodic reviews, CC felt we had achieved Silver Preferred status. We are now able to obtain better credit ratings and have enjoyed the benefits of having this card

Excessive Fees

07/08/2000
One of many problems I have had with this company is that I made a payment online that was not processed, resulting in an overlimit charge. I was not aware that the payment was not accepted untill after they assessed an over limit fee of $25. I found out about the payment not being processed when a co-worker had a call from their collections department about her account and the representative told her that he needed to speak to me next because I was in arrears. I called to complain and made a payment over the phone. I was charged a fee of $7.00 for making a phone payment and received a form letter regarding my complaint. I intent to pay off the balance and close the account.
