"No Freddie for the big D."
For the first time in ten years Diners Club did not win the coveted Freddie Award. That honor went to American Express. That's what happens when you dilute a formerly good card with Master Card. Since they merged with Master Card; the thrill is gone!

"Diners club switch to mastercard"
late 2005 early 2006 d club disappearred and became a psuedo version of the former. Citigroup
linked it to mastercard, added excessive fees and shortened the payment cycle to 25 days less
postage time both ways. They also charge a late fee AND delinquency fee. Worst of the worst.
I have platinum amex and visa master cards but have canceled this once venerable card. was card holder since 1982.

Most attractive feature: no good features since switch to mastercard link. all advantages gone.
Least attractive feature: it is a poor version of amex now

"Best T&E Card "
1st year pay the $95 annual fee and recieve 12K Club Reward points. Upon renewal, call the Bonus Rentention Dept (800) 753-5577 to have the $95 annual fee waived (a $95 credit) or perhaps recieve additional Club Reward points added to your account over the next several months.

I didn't like personal cards going from 60 days to 30 days to pay in full (Corporate cards still have 60 days to pay in full). On the other hand, Diners Club cardmembers biggest grip for years was lack of acceptance. With Mastercard acceptance, no more acceptance problems.

Frequent flyers really like Diners Club for its Club Rewards program. It has won 8 Freddie awards by voters of Inside Flyer Magazine. The flexibility to transfer miles into almost any airline frequent flyer program domestically or many international ones. Also great for topping off your miles for that additional ticket or upgrade. Club Reward sometimes runs special redemptions on certain airlines.

No problems with customer service and concierge is available. Primary Car Rental Insurance is provided in most countries.

Diners Club gets Two Big Thumbs Up!

"Should I close my account?"
I was very excited when I first got my Diners in my early 20s. Not making a 6 figures salary, paying a $95 annual fee was a deal, but I was willing to pay for the service and the value.
Now that my Diners Club is a regular Mastercard..and when I pay the cashiers ask "Mastercard?" when accepting my payments I wonder if it is still worthy to carry this card..A Mastercard with such a annual fee.
My experience with customer service is not exceptional. I have never had any problems with my card, but when I call the service I get is quite so and so...with me doing most of the talking.

My Citi Dividend Platinum gives more with no annual fee.

"Change to MasterCard = Lost a Customer"
After being a Diner Club card holder for years, today I have closed my account. With the new mastercard alliance, reduced grace period, but no reduction in the annual fee, the account is worthless. I have many other rebate credit cards that offer better than this (avg 1% back) card with no fee's and lower interest rates. I am guessing a lot of other cardholders feel this way and will be doing the same. Sorry to say goodbye, but not sorry enough to be ripped off.

"Diners Club-Master Card alliance:"
I think the Diners Club/Master Card alliance stinks. Diners Club was exclusive and in a class by itself. Now it is an ordinary everyday MasterCard you can use at any K-Mart or McDonalds. It was a great card but now a Master Card. The whole thing smacks of corporate greed.

Most attractive feature: Wide acceptance
Least attractive feature: Annual fee of 95$ for a MasterCard.

"Diners Club was best travel card, but now..."
Diners Club was the hidden gem of T & E cards. Great international acceptance, flexibile benefits, and up to 2 months to pay in full.

Diners Club was the very first credit card, invented back in 1950. Over the years, it lost ground to Amex, but for international travelers, was the card of choice. Since 1979, Citicorp has owned the card and basically neglected it, but it has soldiered on with a loyal following.

Recently, Citicorp announced Diners Club forged an alliance with MasterCard, so that everywhere a MasterCard is accepted, a Diners Club card would be accepted. This vaulted Diners Club from a niche card to the most accepted credit card in the world.

But at a price. Citicorp is cutting back on all the benefits that made Diners Club special, especially the 2 billing cycles to pay option. So for $95 a year, you are basically getting an affinity MasterCard.

Say goodbye to a great credit card. Diners Club is now Dead Card Walking.

"Diners Club Sells Out"
Diners Club just announced that they were teaming up with MasterCard. The fine print states that cardholders will receive a $30 late fee if balance is not paid in 30 days. This change will take place around June 2005. Prior to this, there were no late fees until the balance was over 60 days old. When the alliance with MC takes place, cardholders will be able to opt for extended payments at a 13/5%APR. I think there are better interest rates out there. Diners Club will become nothing more than a glorified MasterCard. The only advantage I see is that there will be more acceptance, especially on the West Coast.

Least attractive feature: Will become a MasterCard

"For world traveller with good credit"
I received this card 10 years ago as part of my Citibank Wealth Management Account for no fee. I travel all over the world and this card is awsome overseas. I lost my card in melbourne and replacement card was issued overnight. Their offices are nicer and customer service reps are ery professional. Not much better for U.S domestic users though.

Most attractive feature: restaurant discount, Longer grace period
Least attractive feature: limited acceptance in U.S.

"Diner's Club Card"
When one travels for business purposes and makes airline reservations two or three weeks in advance to get the best fares, those airline costs hit your statement sometimes before you've taken the trip, thus, before you've gotten reimbursed. With American Express if you don't payu in full you lose your points/mileage. With Diner's there is no penalty, and no lost points, as long as you pay during the next billing cycle. By far this is the best differentiating benefit. I cancelled Amex and switched to Diner's for this reason. I've never had an acceptance problem with airlines, hotels or car rental - only with restaurants.

Most attractive feature: The ability to pay in full in TWO billing cycles without penalty - crucial for business tr
Least attractive feature: Limited acceptance
