"an "ok" card"
I received this credit card about 3 years ago my credit was a "fair" credit.....I got it so I can get the lowest rate they offer after a long period of time after making timely payments...agreement is pay every six months and the rate will go down up to 1.00% every six months....They increased the credit limit on my account once a year but it is only like 200 to 400 dollars which is ok with me. The rate reward is quite confusing to me.....they did lower the rates but it went back up and it seems like my rates has not gone down very much over the past couple of years. I called customer service and they said they go by the prime rate also , even thought the rates are lowered every six months when I make timely payments, the APR also increases as prime rate increases so I was kinda disappointed there, for I was expecting to see the actual reward "Rate rewards" but if prime rate increases, APR rate also increases after the reduction. If the prime rate decreases, the apr will decrease, but lately I guess the economy is going good, the prime rates keeps climbing... anyway it is a ok card, if you have excellent credti I recommend you get another card, if you have poor credit, this card is good for you.

"A solid credit card for everyday use"
The key feature and only real perk of membership with this card is that your interest rate is lowered by one percentage point for every six consecutive on-time payments you make, as long as you pay at least the minimum balance and each of the six statement balances is one penny or higher. This feature is good for those who want to carry a balance on the card or who want to establish a low interest rate for emergencies.

As for specifics, the lowest they will lower your rate to is 9.99 percent. Also, it is their prerogative to raise the interest rate, based on your account history or your credit report, though the only raise I've ever seen on my account is less than one percentage point, which just went back to the minimum rate after another six months of on-time payments.

Like most credit cards associated with major consumer banks, they are quite stingy with their credit limits, especially if you have a young or imperfect credit history. I've only seen one raise in the past two years, and my credit limit is still quite low. This means you shouldn't make this your only credit card, and that if you want to use the low rates to carry a very high balance, this probably isn't the card for you.

As for customer service, whenever I've had to discuss my account over the phone, I've found the customer service representatives to be very knowledgeable and helpful. The only real complaint I have in regard to customer service is that when I disputed a claim, they found in the merchant's favor, though that doesn't mean they didn't consider my claim fairly. Also, when I mailed the claim to the customer service address provided on the bank's Web site, it came return-to-sender, as the address was not current, and I had to re-send the claim to the new address on the post office's "return-to-sender" label.

Their online account center is very convenient. I check my balance and pay all of my statements there, and have never had any problem with them failing to debit my checking account or credit my credit card account. I also find their FAQ section is quite thorough, and I've never had a problem with them mailing the hardcopy of my statement too close to the due date.

As for hidden fees, the only fee I was charged with that I wasn't expecting was interest on a purchase I made from an international merchant. I didn't realize that there is no grace period for international purchases, but the fee was negligible, and I will note that policy for the future.

All in all, this is an excellent everyday card, though I wouldn't recommend it for those who want to make this card their "workhorse," due to the low credit limits offered. It is nice to keep it around and build a low interest rate in case of emergency, though, as well as build your credit history.

"we should chare them interest for all THEIR mistakes"
in attempting to pay off this atrocious credit card, DMB put my check in ahead of the agreed date TWICE. that was TWO months ago. i asked if the two $30 check return fee's incured in my bank would be refunded and they said sure- just fax us the staements and a letter. shortly i recieved a few indentical letters saying that the matter would be resolved in aprox. 30 days. it's now past 45 days and again i had to call and get into all kinda of arguments with the most inep5t agents ever. those who did help just tell you things which were just that- words that would not resolve your issues nor addressed it. i asked for a amanger and thay went crazy - telling me that the manager- os so called issue supervisor, would onkly tell me the same thing he was telling me. yeah- so i insisted he connect me so that i may hear the same things over again. upon connection i actually found someone who said they would use their insider-connections with collections and the other agencias among them. seems that as a whole, these agencies do not communicate with each other.so this morning i faxed all my paperwork- because that is what you need to do when dealing with incompetence, and we shall see the results. basically- do not stop till you reach an actual manager and recieve their "said' private line and fax. as much as they may get annoyed and as little as they will want to listen to you, tell them and do not stop. seems the agets there are aware of the problems they cause and no nothing to fix such things. this is clearly evident when you talk to an agent and they try to explain your entire issue as something that has been resolved, when in reality all they are doing is reading the notes that they attach to your issue or account evberytime you phone them. the last agent to hang up on me was upset because i told her that befoire she spoke to me about mi issues with the bank and asked me tired old questions- that she should read all the notes available to her and not bother me with the myriad of problems that occured when i tried to pay my card off in FULL. well this agent sais she had taken enough, obviously she did not read her notes, or as the customer service before he rtold me, i was going to be connected withthe original agent who took my payment. the same agent who probably botched the payment if that is not a normal way of conducting business at DMB.

NEVER IS A STRONG WORD TO USE
BUT DIRECT MERCHANTS BANK
NEVER AGAIN.

"POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PAYMENT CONTROL"
I would not recommend this card to anyone. On 21 Feb, my title company sent a check fr $12,166.00 to pay off my account. This check was never posted to my account. For two weeks I called customer service and was inform that they had not received the check and that to keep in mind that if a payment was received, it would take 7-10 business days to post. Why so long to post if it was mailed from Waldorf, MD and only going right up the street to Baltimore. Well the title company stop payment on this check and sent another one out on 4 Mar. It still has not posted to the account. I have been communicating with customer via telephone and email for help. We are talking about alot of money sitting in a P.O. Box waiting for someone from their agency to pick up and post. I have received negative results. I tried to get a direct address instead of a P.O. Box to have the title company send the check. You can't even get a supervisor on the telephone to discuss iusses of this nature. I anticipate having another check lost??? Know one at the company seems to care. I am tired of hering responses "Keep in Mind it takes 7-10 business days" to post a payment.

"Has been good for me"
I had been living in Mexico for about 8 years and disappeared from having any type of credit rating, a car dealer told me I didn’t exist when he went to look up my credit report and he said he had never seen that before. DMB was the first bank that would issue me a card and it has been very good for me. My credit line has continued to go up and my interest rates have stabilized at about the same as my Capital one card. I had a problem with an internet Merchant for nearly 600 dollars of merchandise that was charged and never delivered, I called DMB customer service and they told me exactly what I needed to do to get the bad charges canceled and they did so upon receiving the documents I sent them. I have never made a late payment and have no complaints at all about DMB. As I recently paid off my DMB balance and now have "normal" credit cards I was going to cancel my DMB account but after looking into it and checking out and comparing rates I decided to keep it.

"CREDIT CARD FROM HELL............."
DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT......get sucked into this card unless you want to have satan as your banker. the [i hesitate to even call them customer service reps as there is no service involved]....... are so incredibly rude it's unreal. you know the saying that debt is a four letter word? well their customer service people know quite a few other four letter words......and never hesitate to use them. they are great at hanging up on you too. and not because you are being rude........but because you ask to speak to a supervisor. BANG......goes the phone. AVOID THIS CARD AT ALL COSTS unless you like sleepless nights and being cursed at by an illiterate half wit on the phone.if you like being abused this is definitely the card for you!

"watch those late payments"
I was late by 1 week once over many years. The mailed statement was lost or late (honestly). When I balanced my checkbook I realized that a payment had not been made. I sent it immediately, still paid it within one week, but the APR changed from 5.99% to 10.99% without any notification. I had actually talked them out of the $35 late fee but they never mentioned the rate increase! I would avoid Direct Merchants at all costs if I was choosing a card since they will not reconsdier their decision.

"card review"
this card is very good, offers an automatic credit line increase ever so often, and every 3 months there is a chance to inquire about a reduction of the APR. And if you don't carry a balance or just a small one, your APR goes down really fast.

Most attractive feature: the checks that are being issued, they help if a balance transfer is not possible
Least attractive feature: problems with military overseas addresses
