I have had their card for about 5 years, but never kept much of a ballance on it. They kept offering higher credit limits and lower apr till I finally decieded to use thier card on some purchases. May 1st bill's apr was 9.99 I was 1 day late on junes bill and the apr went to 29.99. If you check your statements the due date changes by 2-3 days regularly. I allways pay much more than mininum due.When I called they gave no reason but that they peridically check credit & something must have changed.When I stated I wanted to cancell they said I could but they would then report the card as a card in bad standing with the credit compinies.I have also 3 times had them put services I did't agree to on my card and had to call several times to get them removed.

I made a lot of mistakes when I was younger. I got in debt like many do. I got their card as a way of consolidating different accounts. It helped in the short term, but with the interest rate they charge, it wasn't long before I closed the account, but after 10 years or more I'm still paying. I've paid over 5 times the original amount and if you make the payments they tell you, it doesn't even pay off the debt or keep it the same, it still builds. But they don't tell you this at any time. I'm looking into legal actions to end this nightmare since collecting 5 or more times the amount isn't enough for them and their practices mean you won't pay it off ever.

In my opinion, an amazingly bad card that preys on the middle class. Here is my experience: I normally pay over the phone--on time--and far more than the minimum. In March the card cut me off with no explanation, then hit me with 29.99% interest rate. When I asked the credit department why, the explanation: "Read the agreement." That is, they did it because they can. I own a business and will accept VISA but not Direct Rewards VISA. Here is why: If my company accepted their credit cards, I would be complicit with their business practices--including a nearly 30% interest rate--a rate I consider loan sharking. I also will refuse to do business with other companies that accept their card. Other VISAs okay. Not Direct Rewards or Direct Merchant's.

i am surprised that i have an account with you. i have destroyed the card you sent and never want to have anything to do with your bank. now you sent me a statement that i owe you.WHEN I ASKED YOUR PEOPLE WHO GAVE THEM THE AUTHORITY TO PURCHASE THE PURCHASE SHIELD FOR ME NOBODY WANTS TO ANSWER ME.i was so DISGUSTED AND WILL NEVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH YOU.

I am not satisfied with the service I received when calling about my account. I was treated with a rude attitude and am a good customer, who pays all bills on time and occasionally pays more than my min. balance. One month I made an error in reading my statement and sent less than the payment required. I had an auto accident that has left me with some brain injuries/damage and doing even the simple tasks can be trying. I telephoned the Direct Merchants office and was not treated with the respect or general polite attitude that any customer should get from any company. So in short, pardon my french... But the not so good folks at Direct Merchants Visa can kiss my royal ???? Thank you for listening, but no thank you to the folks at Direct Merchants VIsa, who have no clue how to treat their honest, hard working average American customers.God Bless America!!!!

Direct rewards is the absolute worst card to have hands down. They constantly annoy you with telemarketer calls no matter how many times you request to be placed on their "don't call" list. They have the worst customer service and APR around. All in all I wouldn't recommend this card to my worst enemy. They are terrible horrible people who will call your home insesiantly. NEVER EVER GET A DIRECT REWARDS card!!! The only thing you are rewared with are phone calls.

I have held this card many years but now I am very dissapointed by the short period given to pay the bill. I recieved my statement on June 3rd and was told by a representative that in order to avoid a late fee I would need to send in payment a minimum of 7 to 10 days in advance of due date. This would give me less then a week to mail off the payment to avoid a $35 late fee. With the shortened period to pay, I feel that it takes the convenience away from using the card. My discover card allows much more time before payment is due. After all these years its time to switch.
Most Attractive Feature: I receive a check for $125 for using the card
Least Attractive Feature: They have shortened the period of time to send in the payment.

While the review by Don makes many generally good statements about credit card use overall, he seems to be missing the point.
My husband and I have excellent credit. We have never been late on a debt and, as far as I am concerned, we still haven't. Listening to the literally dozens of collections agents with Direct Merchant, however, this would not seem to be the case.
Our problems started when we began doubling our payments to Direct Merchant. The first month, they raised our credit limit. The second month, we were charged a late fee, although the bill was paid at the same time as in the past. The check cleared approximately 17 days later. We contested the late fee and were told it would be removed. It never has been. In addition, NEW late fees have now been added. In three months, we have accrued $200 in late fees for bills that were mailed two weeks prior to our due date.
Aggressive collection tactics have begun. Direct Merchant representatives call daily. They call at work. They call at home. They call at 8:00 am on Sunday mornings, they call at night. Never does one have any record of the other's call, nor what we have discussed.
We are pushed to make "electronic payments" which is completely unacceptable to me. While we DO pay other bills online, I can't imagine what would happen to my checking account if they had access to it.
The bottom line is that although there "excuses" for non-payment by a consumer, there ARE MANY of us who are on record as being deceived by Direct Merchant, whose shady business practices are known by anyone who does a search of Direct Merchant Complaints on the internet. Unfortunately, we learned this lesson too late.
All I have to say is beware. We don't believe we will ever have this card paid off; Direct Merchant won't allow that.

One of the worst cards I've ever owned. HIGH interest rates (close to 30%!), constant telemarketing, bad customer service, mistakes in billing. FORGET THIS ONE!

It's a credit card, so it's not unlike other credit cards, really. This card allows you to buy stuff on credit, then get horribly in debt if you're not careful, and then you find that you owe $8,000 and you're still not making jack for income. Then you decide to become a financial planner so you can make some good money for a change, but then you realize that you can't really manage your own money, so who are you to manage others' money? Yeah, so it's a credit card.

I have cancelled this card because I think they were very incompetent, I have my payments on file, and every payment they had charges for all types of things, when you called customer service they were of no help, they would say we had to pay and could not tell us where charges originated.

Direct Merchants Bank will add an over limit charge in the middle of your billing cycle.
They will put in very small print somewhere on your statement that you are over limit and
should pay that amount in addition to the minimum payment. They do not show the overlimit
in your additional payment. Customer service personnel are rude. I have closed this account.

Be careful how you use it

When I first got the card, the high credit limit was an attractive feature.
I was getting married and used it exclusively for the honeymoon expenses.
They had a intro rate that served my purposes well. They were not
shy about increasing your limit and offering you gold status. I was able
to use the card later to transfer balances if and only if they decreased
my APR. They cut in in half from 24 to 12%. With my high credit limit,
I am going to get rid of several of my other cards and make this my secondary
card. At this time, it is my lowest rate card.
Control your other expenses and use any card to your benefit.

The interest rate is too high and they will not reduce it even though
I have been a cardholder for over 10 years with not one late payment.
I can't understand why, after all this time they will not reduce the apr
but will increase my limit and give me a platinum card without me
asking them for either. I had a bankruptsy almost 10 years ago and
they at least gave me a chance to prove I made a mistake and learned
from it...for that I will be forever grateful. The second chance in worth
the interest rate in my book.

i have this card have been trying to get them to lwer my interest rate but they keep tell me im over limit which they keep it that way by charging 34.00 each month i havent used this card in a while im alway on time with my payment but yet they keep calling me on the phone to tellme im over limit i would not tell any one to use this card or apply for this card

I haven't had any problems with this credit card. The only thing I don't like is the interest rates are too high. I think it should be 15% or less. I've never cashed any of the check they send me because I'm afraid if I do they'll charge me the same interest rate as a cash advance. They say on the check only 9.99% and after so long it goes up to 15.99%.

They sent me a promotion for balance transfer with a low rate of 2.9%. Sounded good so I transfered a balance. When I received my next statement the APR for it was 4.9%. Not a big difference even with my balance of $4500 but still a mistake(so I thought). I called the 800 number and explained to them what happened. The response was:"You don't qualify for 2.9% so the lowest we could give you was 4.9%". So I asked a reasonable questions such as why I received the letter stating that I am pre-aproved for 2.9 apr and how come they didn't tell me anything when I was calling them to make a transfer. She said that there is nothing she can do about it, asked me if I had any more questions(like she solved that one) and tried to hang up. At that point I asked for a supervisor but she refused to connect me to one!!! What is going on?!! Don't even think about getting this card!!!

About 2 years ago, I received what I thought was a great offer for a credit card. Looking back it was not.
I had a small credit line, which was alright to get me started on building my credit. I decided to quit with the company. Cut up the card and mailed it back to them.When I sent it back I had less than $50 to pay. I was making my payments which should have been done. I still have the same company billing me each month for finance charges, calling twice a day, late fees. The bill is at about $300. for something that should have been done a long time ago. And I don't even have the card anymore,just the bills. Don't be fooled by you're approved. Dig deeper into what they will offer you.

if you have a credit limit of $2000 and you have already charged 1/2 to 3/4 of that they should stop
spending rights until the balance is paid or you can prove your going to pay so people won't keep charging and not be able to get the balance paid off.

I was solicited for their card because of my long standing affair with Fingerhut.I thought that the interest rate looked awfully high but bing ignorant applied anyway because we had no other credit rating to secure a card elsewhere.What a mistake!!! Only after I had gotten my account close to the $5000.00 did I realize what a devastating mistake I had made!! I only found out by noticing after making a payment my balance would only go down a few dollars. Like I said, I'm ignorant about this "interest" bit so didn't know any better. Trying to "play catch-up" with them now after mistakenly over-drawing. Lady I talked to on phone from Direct Merchants said I "would never catch-up" paying the minimum!!! Hmmmmm...thanks for the cheerful news!! :-( Most credit cards of course paying the minimum will at least get you out of debt eventually. Direct Merchant's likes to "get ahold" of you never to release you until they bled you for every nickle dime and penny you got!!! Do#'t be foolish!
friends!!! Stay away from these folks!!! They especially prey upon those with poor or limited credit; those that least can afford their ridiculously outrageous interest rates!! Tis sad indeed that they can lawfully charge you as much as they do!!! I plan on talking to someone yet to see how they can lawfully rip you off as bad as they do!!! Since they are "affillated" with Fingerhut...I now have a bitter taste in my mouth for them as well....
