"Finally cancelled it"
I have had this card for 2 years & I cannot count the endless problems I have had. There online website has so many restrictions coming up with a name/password that the next time I went on I couldn't figure out what I had put. They don't have one person who speaks English when I call and end up just hanging up because they never know how to answer my questions. I was told they were going to reimburse me if I stuck with their credit card and never got the money. I haven't used the card since May where it was fully paid off and I was waiting for the money to come to me. I just cancelled the card yesterday (Nov. 30) and they told me I owed THEM $65 for my annual fee and for not using the credit card. Where they pulled this number out of- I have no idea. I paid it just so I could close the account for good. It was worth more to me to cancel this card and ruin my credit score than to have to deal with the headache. Good luck to anyone who uses it. I've had minor problems with my AMEX and Capital One- give them a try before you deal with the mess of a Discover.

"Worst credit card experience"
Discover card is tricky from the very start. They signed me up when I was a college student with no income (poor judgement on my part) and have refused to work with myself or my debt consolidation program to pay off my balance. Only about 25% of my current balance is from purchases. The rest are fees and interest.

Most attractive feature: I have nothing good to say about Discover.
Least attractive feature: High fees, high interest hikes, due date changes, corrupt company, poor customer service

"Worst card I ever had. Can't wait to get rid of it!"
This card has been a nightmare ever since I got it. First discover increased my rate to 19.99 without a reason and when I called they said the markets are bad for everyone. I believed. They kept sending the preapproved offers for personal loans. I ignored them for quite a few months. Once the interest rate they offered looked so good, I made a call asking about the loan. After a few questions, the customer care person rejected the application because I was not a US citizen. Didn't you know that before sending a million pre-approval letters? And now after I bought a house I thought my credit got better after paying mortgage for about 6 months, discover cuts down my credit limit to half. Thank you very much Discover. I will pay off the balance and close the account for good and I can't wait to do it.

Most attractive feature: Nothing really!!!
Least attractive feature: Increase in rate without reason and decrease in credit limit without reason.

"Discover's !% and 5% is only 0.25%"
Why select a card that pays only 0.25% unless you charge more than $3,000? There are other cards with he same !% and 5% offers that pay that percentage from the first dollar.

Most attractive feature: 5% back in categories
Least attractive feature: Cash back is only 0.25% unless you spend over %3k.

""Pre-Approved""
I received a letter by mail stating I was pre-approved for a Discover card. When I called in to accept the offer I was transferred to an analyst. This fellow was polite but literally interrogated me about my entire life and asked questions about every account I have or had. He asked about my career, my property, my education...details one would expect to be asked if a crime had been committed. This went on for over 30 minutes. I finally told the analyst that I was not comfortable with this process particularly since my credit score is 723.

"APR Rate Escalates WITHOUT Cause 7.99 to 19.99"
The initial APR of our Discover Card obtained in 2007 escalated to a 19.99% APR increase. Unable to maintain a 19.99% increase on a high balance card, I called in to customer service for help.

I was routed into a hardship program for 12 months at 5.99%. At the start of the program Discover Card will have you give them your checking account number upfront, and automatically deduct the payment each month on the due date. I did this and for 12 months the payments automatically were debited from my checking account. Everything went smoothly, and I continually checked in with the hardship department throughout the program, who advised me on several occassions, that while they can not 'predict' my interest rate upon completion of the program, that they are certain with my excellent payment record they would be able to lower my 19.99% rate that I had before the program.

The program ended in April, and then for April's statement, they backdated the interest rate back to the last payment. The new high interest rate (not the program rate)!! This immediately put me over the limit on DAY 1 of being out of the program.

I immediately called on Day 1 of being out of the program and tried to get this resolved as well as find out what my new APR rate would be.

To my dismay, shock, horror and utter disbelief they state that I do not QUALIFY for a lower APR at this time, and that the 19.99% will be the rate.

I pressed on for a reason as to why my APR request was denied, and they said I had been late 2 times in the past 12 months.

That was a bold face inaccuracy. Being in the program that I just completed, you are not allowed to be late. Everything is automatic. If you are late you would have been un-enrolled from the program.

I called back to the original department that I always dealt with (the hardship department) and they confirmed that I had PERFECT payments on the program. Also, the gentleman said it was also Over the Limit. Well, my account was NOT over the limit until the statement cycled the night before, at which time the program ended, and they BACKDATED the NON-PROGRAM interest rate of 19.99% back to the last program payment. Then it brought me over the limit. Had I known they were going to play games, I would have paid EXTRA last month to leave room for the NEW HIGH INTEREST RATE to be applied to the outstanding balance. I'm not an idiot, I know how to figure out APR on a daily basis to make sure that we would not come in over our limit. And had we received the required mandated government disclosure as noted in the credit card reform act, we should have been advised 45 days beforehand that our rate was being restored to the previous rate. This is just another example of how Discover Card is NOT TRANSPARENT.

Discover Card, in my opinion plays games with you once your balance reaches a high balance. They lure you in, wait for the balance to get high and then start playing games. The past 12 months they have reassured me that I would be getting a great APR at the end of the program. This did not happen and I followed all the rules explicitly. I kept detailed logs of all dates and times of my calls, complete with who I spoke to and detailed conversations. Then I printed them out and kept them in a folder.

There are lots of cards out there. If you really want to know how to shop for a card, go to lowcards.com and search there.

Discover Card will be hearing from me again. I will be posting a You Tube Video and I will be contacting the Local News Media, I will be sending information to CNN Jennifer Westhoven and to Suze Orman. This type of practice will be exposed to the fullest extent of what I can do as 1 little citizen. This is not right, and I am going to stick up for myself and the others who are getting shafted by the Big Corporations.

I have also provided the e-mail they sent me congratulating me on completing the program. Note once again, I could not have completed the program had I been late 2x in 12 months. That is the stipulation of the program. No late payments.

LETTER PASTED BELOW:
Congratulations on successfully completing the special payment program for your Discover Card Account.

"Discover card has no customer loyalty and will not follow through on disputes. "
My husband and I both have accounts with Discover Card. I have been member since 1991 and my husband since 2002. We always make our payments and pay the before the due date. Our problem starts with a vacation package purchased 4/21/09. We intended to go to Peru March of 2010 but due to mudslides knocking out the only rail to Machu Picchu we had to reschedule leaving 10/23/10. We got a phone call on 10/19/10 from Latin America for less that they were canceling our vacation due to lack of funds on their part and that we could dispute the charges with our credit card. Knowing that time was of the essence we immediately got online and disputed the charges for the land portion of the package. We were told through chat that we would have to fax a request for dispute for the air portion of that package. We sent the fax the very next day. The land package showed up immediately as a temporary credit. 10/25/10 we got an email requesting that we call Discover card. Even though I sent the fax to the number that we had been given it was rerouted to the wrong department. When I called they said that they would reroute it correctly.
I tried to keep a close eye on the dispute waiting for the temporary credit of the flights but was slightly derailed when my father had an accident and was in the Burn ICU in an induced coma from October until December. It was 1/2/11 when I finally inquired by phone call about the air portion of our travel package. It appeared that they showed that they got the fax on 10/20/2010 but something was still wrong. I was asked to fax the information again. I did 1/3/11 and by the next day the air had been credited to the account 1/17/11 Discover Card reversed the temporary credit for the land portion. Discover only sent one e-mail on 10/19/10 to the merchant and the other people that were going with us on this trip got ALL of their money back 11/22/10. THEY used a Visa. Though I can't prove it, it certainly appears that Discover card forgot all about the land portion of the dispute until I tried to check on the airline portion of it in January. Had they made other attempts at contacting the merchant they could have resolved the issue. Complaints to the CEO have only gotten the response that Discover card is not legally obligated because the purchase date was over 60 days ago. Not that unusual for a travel package. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and when that is resolved I plan to cancel both of our Discover Cards.

"Discover Has Poor Cardmenber Service and Loyalty"
Twelve months ago my balance was over $7,000 and my credit limit was $7500.00 I called customer service to see about lowering my interest rate and they agreed to lower it to 9.9% but I could not use my card. Since then I have paid down my balance to less $650.00 and the 12 month program for lower rates ended. I called customer service to see about reinstating my credit limit and they declined. Being treated like a bum I then closed the account as I feel that is no way to treat a good paying customer who has been with Discover since 1994. My wife told me that I should not have closed the account as that would have an immediate negative effect on my credit so I called customer service to recind my request and they denied it. I will never give Discover another dime of interest so I paid off my balance in Full and wouldn't take a card from them if they gave me $1,000.00. A REALLY BAD CREDIT CARD COMPANY!!

"Purchases get declined due to fraud detector system"
This year I decided to do my holiday shopping with my Discover card. On Monday, I made about 5-6 purchases totally about $250 on Amazon.com & they all appeared to go through. Mind you, I wasn't even close to my limit, which is $1,000. On Tuesday night, I received 5-6 emails from Amazon stating I needed to re-enter my credit card info. So I did & they appeared to go through just fine. On Wed. a.m., I went to the grocery store and tried to purchase some food w/my Discover card. It was declined. I called their customer service - and they told me a fraud alert had been put on my account, the agreed to remove the fraud alert right away. They didn't phone or email me, even though they had this info. on file. I asked them why purchases during the holiday season (in small amounts) that were shipped to my street & billing address were declined. So now it's Thursday, 12/16 and I get home from work to find 6 new emails from Amazon - yes, they declined my purchases. I called Discover & they told me their automatic fraud detection system had acted up again. So now I have to try to go do my holiday shopping this weekend, when I have absolutely no time - and am starting from scratch at the last minute, all thanks to Discover. Why bother having a credit card when they don't let you use it? Their over-sensitive fraud detector would prohibit me from using this card on vacation, as I can only imagine how badly it would react to charges coming from another country! I'm closing this account - they are ridiculous & their customer service reps kept reading scripts to me, which only served to piss me off more. I've discovered I'm done with Discover.
