"Credit Limit Reduction"
Despite NEVER being late on a payment, never paying just the minimum, and staying below the 40% of credit limit level, my credit limit was reduced by 65% without notice by the issuer.

"Be Careful - Read On"
Overall the Discover Platinum Card is a good card. I was pleasantly surprised (almost shocked) that when I filled up my car with gas on my DPC and came back with a family member's car to fill up, using the DPC again, I got a call right away from DPC Security asking about recent activity on my card. They did ask questions, which was fine by me. It was nice to know that they do watch your credit card activity for anything out of the ordinary. The rewards are alright.
HOWEVER,
During the past year one of my payments I mailed to Discover was "never received". The mail never came back to me so I had to go through the hassle (and $25 fee) of putting a stop payment on the check I mailed them. I contacted Discover and advised the Rep I was transferred to in billing that I had put a stop payment on that check, provided them the check detail, and told them not to cash it. The rep advised me that she would note the system and they would follow my instructions. Well, apparently not. My stop payment on my check lasted 6 months so I thought everything was fine. Then, within the following couple months, my checking account was off by hundreds of dollars! I found the discrepancy to be the amount of the payment I sent them way back when. My bank told me in advance that the check could not be cashed if it was over 180 days old, thus the 6 months of stop payment that they had put on the check. In checking my records from my bank, sure enough, Discover must've "found" my payment and cashed it anyway. I was FURIOUS!!! I called and complained telling them they were lucky that I had enough in the bank to cover that check! They gave me the run around, telling me that checks are processed by machine, that no human opens or reviews the payments. I find that rather hard to believe! They didn't say anything about that when I first called to tell them I put a stop payment on the check! To this day I still don't know how it vanished for over 6 months and then miraculously appeared. But, am still furious about their response and how they handled things. They were not apologetic or anything. They just chalked it up to the machine processing. I also blame my bank too for letting that check through. |

"If you could only have one card this is the one to get"
I have been a cardmember for over 20 years and they are very liberal with payment due dates. I was surprised to read the review by Chris because many times I have forgotten to mail the payment till the day it was due and never received a late charge or interest. Matter of fact I once called two days after the due date to let them know I had forgotten and they told me they would reverse any charges! I make over $600 dollars a year in rebates since I use it instead of my companys AMEX since they don't care.

"My Everything Card"
I have had this card many years. I use it for every possible expense, groceries, gas, utilities. I am notified by e mail when my statement comes out and have the option of selecting payment date and having the payment debited from my checking account. Very convenient when traveling. I never pay a late fee and I pay in full each month. My only criticisms are that I sometimes miss the notices of the promotions when they give extra cashback for certain purchases, and that I have to keep a Visa card to use where Discover is not accepted. This is a perfect card for people who can pay their bill in full and seek a minimum hassle..

"Poor Poor Service"
I have had credit cards for 16+ years and this is by far the worst one I have ever ever had. The customer service reps are rude and not helpfull at all. We have tried and tried to get them to quit sending us the checks to advance on our account, still coming. We have tried to get our interest rate lowered since we have never been late on our account, they say no and each month the rate gets higher and higher. So we are paying this off and closing this account. We have never gotten one dime in the "cash back" scheme. Yet we have charged thousands since we have had this card. It truly is not worth the hassle or headache.

"Discover platinum"
This card offers cash back every billing cycle. Some other cards make you wait an entire year. The grace period is a little too short. Another great thing is the wide variety of card designs the customer can choose from rather than being forced to carry the manufacturer's style. This feature alone should be enough for many.

"Watch out for Discover"
I have had five credit cards during my 15 years card-swiping experience since age 18 and I am sad to say that Discover is the worst! It has become way too aggressive in its way to put on late fees and finance charge on the monthly statement and it is always your fault no matter what circumstances you are in. One instance, I moved to a new address and called them to update the address one month ahead but for the next two months I did not receive my statement. So when finally the bill came in, they put on $150 late fee + finance charge, I called to explain. Instead of admitting some incompetent reps failed to update my address correctly in the system, they accused me of not contacting them early enough to request another copy of statement. This was my first or second time of being late and they refused to take the fees off my statement...So all of your credit card users out there, please be extremetly careful with Discover, they ripped you off when they can.

"Good Card"
I don't have a lot of experience with other cards and I've only had my Discover for five years, but my experience has been very positive. My wife and I use our card for all our purchases and pay the balance every month. Last year we made $500 in cash back and had no finance charges. I certainly don't have any complaints about receiving $500 free! The only negative comment I have about the card is the constant solicitation to enroll in new and costly programs. This is generally only an inconvenience though. If you don't incur finance charges, I think this is a very good card.

"Pretty good card"
My general attitude towards credit card companies is usually a negative one. However, Discover has actually proven to be pretty good card. The customer service isn't half bad in comparison to other companies, and they work with you if you fall on hard times. I went over my limit, was having financial difficulty (around Christmas time of all times), and they worked out a plan that lowered my APR and brought me under limit without charging overlimit fees in the meantime. They also skipped December's payment as a courtesy. This alleviated a lot of stress, and I would like everyone to know that they aren't as bad as the other companies that try to suck every possible fee that they can from you, knowing that you can't afford them. And in the event that they make a mistake-which has happened a few times (computer errors mostly), they investigate and own up to their mistakes and give you a credit for any fees that were charged in error.

"Very good card"
I have had this card for a little over a year and a half. Originally I got it for the 0% intro rate for six months which helped me out a lot. The rewards program is really good, but you can only redeem the rewards in increments of twenty. I use this card for gas and groceries so I can build up the rewards. Only had to contact CS a couple times, but both times they were very polite and helpful. The only real complaint is that it isn't accepted everywhere Visa and MC are taken. But they are trying to fix that.
