| "Centralized banking and beautiful cards" |
I use Discover for most purchases including rent, phone, cable, etc. This allows me to pay almost everything in one online payment every month. You can set up a payment in advance so you don't forget. I recently had some fraudulent charges show up on my bill. I called Discover and they wer very helpful in getting me a new number and taking care of the charges. Discover also offers you choice of 150 card designs for free. Even if you have the standard silver one, just go online and choose an new design and they will send it to you - no charge.
The online secure number generation is also a great feature for those who buy online. Since the fraud, I am using this a lot. For any vendor you do repeated business with (Power Utility, Cell phone, PayPal, etc) just generate a new card number that can be used only with that vendor. If that ever gets stolen, you can cancel that number only and make a new one with no effect on you main card number. For normal buying at stores, you will just use the card.
Overall, Discover is the best and allows you to become nearly cashless while reducing your bill paying substantially. The cash back is not large but does add up over time. I highly recommend this to people that pay off their balance each month. |

| "Cut Rebate on Fuel" |
| I believe this was the best card going. While our local gas station card limits rebates to 5 cents a gallon I was getting 5% back on fuel purchases often including the cup of coffee I'd buy with my gas. In June I reeived notification that the program was being cut back to limit the rebate to the first $1200 in fuel each year. While this will still net me a savings of $60 in fuel costs it will only assist me for about four months in the year. Unfortunately with the time delay of the internet many people will have their cards in hand before they realize this. In the end this will still be a great card to use for 120 days a year. (depending on fuel usage) I now have to step over to the Citi gas card for the balance of the year. Additionally be sure to pay off the balance each month or your interest will easily eat up your savings. |

| "DISCOVER GASOLINE CARD REDUCES REBATE" |
In less than 30 days after my glowing report on this card, what seemed like a very generous rebate program was slashed by 60%. Previously a cardholder could receive a 5% rebate on purchases of gasoline in the first $3000 a annual card use. Discover has reduced that amount by 60%, now at $1200. There by reducing ones potential rebate, given that the first $3000 is all gasoline purchases, from $150 to only $60. The program now adds automotive service in with gasoline to qualify for the 5% rebate. But, at the current cost of gasoline with two or more cars in the household, it doesn't take that long to hit the $1200 plateau.
The next two rebate plateaus are very low at .25% and .50 %. Then at $3000, you finally creep up to 1% for the remainder of your annual period. So...what had been a really good program has sunken to less than mediocre. |

| "DISCOVER GASOLINE CARD" |
| DISCOVER CARD USUALLY MAKE YOU JUMP THROUGH HOOPS TO GET ANY MEANINGFUL REBATE OUT OF THEM. BUT THIS ONE IS A NO BRAINER WITH GAS PRICES THESE DAYS. 5% TRANSLATES INTO $60 AT THE $1200 THRESHOLD, WHICH I DOUBLE WITH PARTNERED RETAILERS WITH WALK-IN STORES. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A $79.99 512MB MEMORY CARD FOR $0.13 AFTER SALE PRICE, IN STORE AND DISCOVER REBATE COUPONS. NO MAIL-IN REBATE REQUIRED. I WALKED OUT WITH IT FOR $0.13 TOTAL. |
