Why I'm switching.
12/18/2010
I've been a loyal customer for over 15 years. The point system has degraded over the years to a point of uselessness. Who does "gift certificates" for a car rental and then restrict it to Avis & Hertz. I'm swithcing over to Chase Saphire.

Would not recommend this reward program because:
1) Most of the hotel/motels I've needed that are listed will not accept the program.
2) Cannot go just anywhere in the US on airlines without increase in points (zones).
3) Dining listed in brochure - tried several who will not accept.
4) So far have been unable to get rewards accepted.
5) Therefore, am discontinuing.

MBNA Platnimu Plus "Plus Rewards"
04/22/2004
I felt like I was a victim of 'bait and switch'! I was changed to one MBNA card when TWA's Aviators card was no longer viable. I tried to 'upgrade' from a coach to business ticket and was told that while I could it would be 90,000 miles (which was the amount of a regular rewards business class ticket). I tried to point out that that was NOT an upgrade but actually using my miles to purchase a business class ticket, I was told that was their definition of 'upgrade'.

I keep looking for other cards but...
03/01/2004
I somehow always come back this card. The only other card that comes close is Chase' Platinum card which is free but you have to pay $25 for annual membership to their travel rewards program. MBNA's Elite Rewards points can be used for different airlines. Chase is largely restricted to Continental.
The other cards I considered either have expensive membership fees and/or are issued by subprime lenders.

My wife and I had been saving points to take a trip after my retirement. Without even a one page letter to notify me, 32,000 points were removed from my account and all the complaining/pleading in the world to have those points reinstated was fruitless. I feel that MBNA does not have any customer relations ability at all. I intend to close my account and certainly would not recommend them to anyone.

Nice looking card with flexible rewards program
06/30/2002
I just got this card a few months ago and my experience using it has been great so far. Points are added to your account every month and you can access this info. as well as redeem your points on the website. You get 1 point for every dollar, even if you pay off the balance. Points can be used for travel and merchandise awards, but they expire after 4 years. Customer service has been great. If the points didn't have expiration dates, this would be one of the best cards in the market today!

Best rewards card available
04/18/2002
Elite Rewards is the best points program I have seen. A low fixed APR with a grace period and NO annual fee. You can redeem points for gift certificates, airline tickets, free hotel nights, car rentals, and merchandise. You can view your points online at www.eliterewards.com and redeem online also. I love this card.

Not worth it
02/01/2002
For the amount you pay in finance charges due to the fact that there is no grace period, it is not worth it. You can get other cards with a fixed annual fee (or no annual fee) and a grace period, so you do not pay ridiculous finance charges if you pay in full each month.
Most Attractive Feature: decent customer assistance
Least Attractive Feature: The finance charges due to no grace period are not worth the benefits

Good airline miles/point card

While I wanted to earn airline miles for my purchases, I was hesitant to chose one with a specific airline company. This one allows me to earn points on all purchases that I can redeem through an agency that takes care of getting the best travel deal I want on my terms AND there's no annual fee.

I had two cards from MBNA - Platinum Plus Rewards and Computer Professional. I had been a card hold for over 5 years. I had some short term financial problems and was late on some payments on other cards. My payments to MBNA were always on time. MBNA raised my interest rate on the Platinum card to 24.99% and then when my Computer Professional card (with a credit limit of only $200) came up for renewal, it was cancelled. I recently called customer service for the Platinum card and they reduced the rate to 19.9%. I don't know if they will renew the platinum card when it comes up for renewal. It amazes me that they would cut off a good customer who makes all payments to them on time. My credit was slightly bruised but not destroyed by a medical problem. I have even received pre-approved offers from other companies for their platinum cards.

Reward Program
06/23/2001
The MBNA Platinum Plus Rewards card reward program is not very user friendly. The reward balance comes once every three months requiring you to open another piece of mail. Other credit card I have had have the balance right on the monthly statement, which allows me to keep track of my balance. Additionally, the rewards link on MBNA's web site takes you to the company's web site that runs the reward program, but there is very little information about how to use the program. It is very difficult to use.
Most Attractive Feature: Gives 1% back on every purchase.
Least Attractive Feature: The reward program is seperate from the billing statement.

I just signed up for this card because there is no annual fee and it has airline rewards for any airline. But I found out the hard way that they charge hidden finance charges. It doesn't even matter if you pay your bill on time. As a side note, it is interesting how people on here comment that the best feature of their card is fraud protection. The card companies advertise this like crazy, but it's rediculous. By law, they are required to have this protection. As the consumer, you are not required to pay beyond $50 for unauthorized purchases. So this is no service they are providing, they are required by law.

I like contributing to my University. MBNA card allows me to do so without my doing anything. It takes a percentage of my annual charges and sends it directly to my University. The benefits associated with this card are unparalleled. True, the grace period is an issue, but you actually earn MORE miles by carrying a balance. The fee is nominal, and you can even earn miles to Alaska, Hawaii, the Carribean, and Europe.

I thought this card was going to be a great card.
No Annual Fee. 2.9% introductory offer, No limit or cap on the amount of air miles you can earn per month or per year. Sounds great so far doesn't it? Exactly what I thought until I received my statement. They have no grace period. So you are charged interest from the time you charge. If you are like me and charge anywhere between 7-10K a month that can add up to some hefty finance charges. So I am now giving this up to go with another card they offer that carries a $35 annual fee. It has a mileage cap of 70,000 miles a year but it saves the hefty finance charges. It sounded too good to be true and it was.
Most Attractive Feature: No Mileage Cap on Purchases Per year or period
Least Attractive Feature: NO Grace Period. Charge Interest from time you charge.
