"was approved, but did not last long."
My husband and I ( me filling out all the info) applied for this card plus VS and Goodys. He was approved for all three. i do all the bill paying and take care of anything to do with finances. So I set up the online account to my email address. He got a okay limit for all the approvals. Well today a lady called our house and would not tell me who she was when I asked to take a message.
I get the number off the caller ID and call back. i find out that it was World Financial Network National Bank that called, so I explain to someone that someone had just called from there and if everything was okay with the approval of the accounts. She was not to bad. Said that a fraud watch had been placed on the Express account. She could not tell me anything, so transfers me to another person in the fraud department. She would not talk to me at all. Said my husband had to call back.He works the hours that they are open. He comes home for lunch and calls and has to leave a message for the "fraud Lady" because the other girl did not understand the noting on the accounts. GEEZZZ! SO the "Main" lady calls him back and tells him that they suspected fraud because the email address was not with his name on it and it was mine. That he needed to send in a bill with his name and address and his DL. They took all credit limit away from all 3 cards. He faxed the things to them right away. Waiting and still no limit put back on the accounts. He calls to see about it. They say that only one person gets the faxes and hands them out. Boy they were quick to pull the credit they issued, but slow to put it back on once proof is shown the them. If they had a more abrasive application then they would not have to worry so much even over a wife!
I read all the crappy reviews about them from here and from so many other sites after approval, I said no that wont happen, they will be competent with us.HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Bunch a idiots!!!

"Don't cancel if satisfactory with Express"
I have been seeing a lot of posts on here about people having trouble with closing their WFNNB cards. My advice to you is if you want to cancel your credit card with WFNNB. Whether it be Express, The Limited, Victoria's Secret or other merchant, DON'T!!!!! If you were a satisfactory customer, meaning that your credit report reflects that you have made all of your payments on time, and you close any account in good standing it will lower your credit score. If you don't wish to use the account anymore even if it's not paid off just cut up the card and once it's paid off it will be left a a zero balance. As long as the card is open you will receive a stable positive mark from WFNNB. Why does canceling a card lower your score? If you close an account you are no longer scored. Even if you pay on time. Hope this helps.

"How credit reporting works"
I'm amazed that people don't understand how credit bureaus work. I had cards with WFNB for years with absolutely no problems. One card was on my report past the 7 year limits, after I closed it and I advised the credit bureau who removed it. It is the credit bureau who makes this mistake, NOT the credit cards! The bureau is responsible for updating their information and they often do NOT do it. The credit card company can only advise them of updates; they can't make them correct their records. I hope people having these problems will take their angst where it belongs; to the credit bureau. Credit card companies will always send you a letter explaining your accurate standing to assist you with the credit bureau. Also, when considering old depts, think of yourself as the grantor and think what you'd do/think if you never got a payment from a borrower and didn't know why. This bank has excellent practices.

"No problem cancelling"
Just as other people, I opened my account when I was in college trying to build up some credit (back in 1999). For the time I used it I did not have any trouble with the statements or paying the bills. I moved once from the address where my account was originally attached to and notify them using one of the slips that came with the statments. My address was changed accordingly in the system. Several years after my last purchase (at least four) I received a notice of changes in the agreement, which reminded me that I still had this account opened. I then decided to cancel it, for the sake of my credit history (besides I stopped using it almost 4 years ago). To be honest, I freaked out a bit when I read all the stories in this webpage of people trying to cancel the account and receiving invoices with accumulated interest for purchases they have made but for items they have returned as well. I quickly then picked up my card (I still had it stored in one of my drawers), dialed the 800 number on the back (by the way it is 1-800-695-8202), keyed my account number (kind of important when you want to cancel an account) and got to a service representative, who assisted me without any problem and cancelled my account (apparently so!). They said they are going to mail me a confirmation letter within 7 to 10 business days (I hope this is true) and that they will report my cancellation to the credit bureaus. Since I was about to ask for my free annual credit report, I will probably wait couple of weeks to see if in fact this cancellation took place. I hope(after reading all these stories on this webpage) that this will work just fine. In summary, I have had no bad experiences with this card (the reason I would not recommend it is only based on the fact that there are a lot of other credit options with better benefits/awards than this one).

"a degrading experience"
I applied for the card when I found I was buying a lot of pants from express. Never got the card. Stopped buying pants there. Never got a bill for 3 months. Forgot about the card. THEN I got the nastiest call ever from WFNNB, demanding money over the phone in a not so nice manner - without any other option to pay. I was shocked, I told the guy I would not pay over the phone because I could not verify who was calling, and when he started berating me I hung up. I got another call from a terse snotty girl who only identified herself by her first name. I thought it was a telemarketer. When I found out it was about my Express card, I was told my account had been noted as refusal to pay. When I tried to explain what happened last time the girl berated me, mocked me and wouldn't let me finish a sentance without interrupting. She then refused to let me speak to a manager, berated me again, insulted me and refused to tell me where WFNNB was located (I wanted to file a complaint with the BBB). I told her I would send a check (I had no problem paying this card), she wanted me to pay at a store. I said specifically that I would not pay at a store because I was sick and pregnant. SO I agreed to pay the amount by check. And I put the check in the mail. Then I got another call less than a week later, demanding to know where the check was. I said it was in the mail. I was again berated and this time snipped at repeatedly. When I asked not to be spoken to like that, the woman yelled at me. Then she demanded to know why I didn't pay at the store like I said I would as noted on my account from the last call??? I was pretty mad at that point and told her I had never agreed to pay at the store and that in fact I had stated I would NOT pay at the store, and that the statement noted on my account was a lie. She yelled at me again telling me not to call people liars. She would not let me speak to a manager either, and would not tell me her name. She then told me I owed more money than I had paid, and more money than what was on my statement (which had finally arrived a few days earlier), and couldn't (or would't)explain it to me, only kept telling me I had to pay it. Then she demanded my address ?? I asked why b/c I had given it out to the last two people so I knew they had it. She flat out refused tell me why, only that it was "policy" which makes no sense, she then snipped that she was noting my account for refusal to give my address and hung up on me. What sort of strange business is this? It's like they train their collections people to be as rude and aggressive and offensive as possible right off that bat. I'm not sure what business model they are working off of, but this sort of verbal abuse and harrassment has got to be illegal, plus arbitrarily demanding more and more money without a card statement or any sort of warning, I say that amounts to intimidation and fraud. And why did they wait three months to call me in the first place if it was such a big deal to them? I am sorry I ever opened that card, it has caused me nothing but grief. And one more note, when I looked closely at the statement, it stated the amount was due on "today", in other words on the day the statement arrived. This cannot be legal. Why don't they just put due yesterday? or last month? Makes about as much sense. This is like dealing with the devil.

"Thank you for the information."
After requesting my free credit report from Equifax, I decided to close some old credit card accounts that I no longer use. Equifax didn't give a telephone number for contacts - only a PO Box.
Thanks to everyone who provided a telephone number for me to contact them. I was able to get through to customer service in less than 5 minute and the service rep was friendly and helpful.
According to Equifax, I still have an account with Structure open but the rep said I had closed that account several years ago. He's supposed to send me a letter of verification that the account has been closed. I'm hoping that when I check my credit report again both accounts will be closed.
