Farm Bureau Bank

05/21/2006
I had a Farm Bureau Bank reward credit card that paid 2%. It was written up in Kiplingers as a good deal. After going with it a while, I got a letter notifying me that they were changing the rewards to 1%. The 1% would also apply to the points I had already accumulated (a substantial number. This was not fair nor was it right. I asked that my account be closed. I fully expected that they would redeem my points at closing, but they did not. An inquiry resulted in them telling me that my points were not redeemed at closing because they were afraid it would make me mad if they asked me. Further, they refused to do anything about it. My points were worth over $300 at the original 2% and I ended up getting zero. I would avoid this bank like the plague.

Not Bad At All

01/07/2004
Considering the other cashback cards out there, this card doesn't have an annual fee or minimum finance charges. The cashback program is flexible and you can use your purchase points for things other than cashback which are worth more than 1% of your purchases. The website has been updated and features up to one year of history along with payment options. If you work this card right, it is definately a winner.
Most Attractive Feature: Great customer service and website features.

Farm Bureau Bank Credit Card

06/22/2003
I opened a farm bureau bank credit card account with the intention of using the credit card to accumulate cash rewards. At the time of my application, I agreed to a 2% cash reward for every purchase made with the card. Starting in October 2002 Farm Bureau changed the rules of the program and made it harder to cash out with 10,000 points being the least amount you would have to accumulate in order to be able to get your cash rewards. I find that it was a mistake to have signed up to get the card and feel as if I am locked in to using it since I have 4,000 points already in my account and it would be a waste to stop using the card at this point in time. Stay away from Farm Bureau Bank!

FBB is a bait and switch bank - they will screw you

10/31/2002
I and many others thought this was a great card. They promised 2% cash back with "no gimicks" and three years to earn the 2%. Then about a year later they changed the program so that no only would future purchases not earn 2%, but past purchases would not either. THEIVES!! There are so any better cards out there now, with better rewards, better websites, and 24 hour customer service that there is no reason to get this card unless you like getting screwed.
Most Attractive Feature: 1% back IF (a big IF) they do not screw customers again
Least Attractive Feature: Bait and Switch marketing, horrible website, cust. serv. 9-9 only.

Used to be a great card

08/30/2002
I got this card for the 2% cashback. You have to accumulated 35000 points (1 point per $1) to get the 2% rate, else you get a lower rate. After having the card for about 6 months, Farm Bureau sent a letter saying they are cutting the cash back rate to 1% and giving us just two more months to get the old rate. I won't be able to spend $35,000 by the time the deadline arrives, so will get a lower cash back rate. Plus, they've just added up to $35 in penalties PER INCIDENT if you are late in making a payment, in ADDITION to the finance charges. I don't like the bait and switch marketing tactics of this bank. On the plus side, however, customer service was great the few times I needed to talk to them or discuss unfamiliar charges on my account.
Most Attractive Feature: Customer service is responsive and sympathetic.
Least Attractive Feature: 2% rebate got pulled before payout. Rip-off!
