I hate they went out of business

08/05/2004
When I first heard the commercial in 1993, I was skeptic but applied to see what would happen. FCNB was the best credit card that I had. When I would lapse in payment, they were very understanding. Eventually, I was able to recieve a card that was not secured; that being Spiegel. I really like the way they helped to clear up my credit, I just wish they were still around. I recommend it to all of my friends. I wish they would come back. I must be the only one who really appreciated what they do.

Factual account report

05/22/2004
I paid off my account in 1994, they waited until 1996 to file a derrogatory report which was removed after the 7 years limit and now they have refiled a false report stating it was settled in April 2004.Stay away from this institution.
Most Attractive Feature: They will only charge you less than ussery rate, almost illegal
Least Attractive Feature: The credit reports they file are false malicious lies, they suck.

They Really Stink!!!!

03/09/2004
Tried paying off both my MasterCard and Visa to no avail. They drafted my account for both payoffs and didn't post it to the accounts until the late fees were posted. Tried fighting them about the late fees and they turned it over to the collection company. They really stink.

FCNB Filed for Bankruptcy in March 2003

02/22/2004
I work for the Speigel Group and everyday we receive calls from irate customers wanting us to do something about the late fees, their credit reports, etc. Spiegel Group is no longer affiliated with FCNB because they simply do not exist anymore. Furthermore, before they went under they were not reimbursing Spiegel Group companies the money cardholders were paying them. It is a frustrating situation for everyone involved. I often wonder why customers are not going to the better business bureau or a lawyer about Card Processing Center, they really do seem like they are giving past customers a very hard time. They really have not given anyone at Eddie Bauer, Newport, or Spiegel information on how to contact them. I talk to 10 (give or take) people a week who have destroyed credit due to this card. People who are receiving their statements late, therefore having no way to make payments on time which leaves them with a $35 late payment each month. We really do wish we could help but we do not have the resources to do so. I recommend reporting them, FCNB is in the clear because they have filed, but Card Processing Center, well thats another story. In fact I believe I have read somewhere on the web that there is possibly a class action suit going on.

Poor Service do not get anything with FCNB

11/05/2003
After being a customer of over 8 years FCNB canceled all the cards and turned over the payment handling to another company. Now I can not even speak to a live person about my account. I had my bank send a payoff on 10/24/03 and as of today 11/5/03 the payment is still not posted and will probably be considered late so they can charge late fees and more finance charges. This organization is a bunch of legal bandits and should be closed down for such bad service and treating customers poorly. They did the same with my Spiegel account.

worst credit card company i have ever seen or used

10/24/2003
We got this card afew years ago, and never really used unless we had too. Well in 2002 we paid this card off and now they are saying we still owe them money. When we first paid them off I told the person that called here that we paid yous off and they wouldnt believe me, we sent a letter to the president of the bank in texas, and told him about this matter and he sent us a letter back saying, yes yous did pay this bill off and he is handing this matter now, we cant send money to a account that is already closed. well now we are getting harassing calls about we still owe money and if this matter continues we are pressing charges against the bank and the colletion agency that keeps calling here.

FIRST CONSUMERS RECK MY CREDIT RATING

10/05/2003
I paid all 3 of my cards off. My bank card was stolen and my bank account was drained dry of everything, about $8,000.00. Until that point I had perfect credit with FCNB. I had to file police reports in 4 different police precents. When my payments bounced with FCNB I called them and explained what my situation was. They were unfriendly, and unwilling to work with me. I could not understand since I had been an excellent customer until that point. I explained that I was in the process of moving and had charged several of my expenses to the cards since my bank card was stolen, and not my payments did not get credited as well due to the theft of my bank card. So now I owed double. To top it all off I went into labor the day we were supposed to move into our new residence. So I was unable to work for awhile. I think that they could have worked with me if they wanted, but I guess all they wanted was their money, and could care less what had happened to me. I did offer to send them copies of the police reports, but the person I spoke with was very rude and snotty. DO NOT APPLY FOR ANY CREDIT SERVICES FROM THIS COMPANY OR YOU WILL NOT HAVE A CREDIT RATING WHEN THEY ARE DONE WITH YOU!!!

Fraud

08/04/2003
August 3, 2003 First Consumers National Bank Processing Center PO Box 3910 Portland, Oregon 97208 Western Union Wire Information Apply Payment Oregon Attention: First Consumers Payment OR Cardmember Services PO Box 2638 Omaha, NE 68103 To Whom It May Concern, I am very disturbed by your shoddy business practices regarding my account (#XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX). I have been remitting my payments to First Consumers National Bank via Western Union for the past 10 years. On July 5th, 2003, I went to the Western Union Office to wire my payment in good order and on time and was told by the Western Union office staff that “Apply Payment Oregon” , the code city you had used for 10 years, was no longer listed as a code city for remuneration. I had received NO NOTICE OF THIS BEFOREHAND. I then dialed the number (1-800-876-3262) I had been using for customer service for the last ten years, and for the first time ever COULD NOT REACH A LIVE OPERATOR. Instead, a recording instructed me to go to www.cardmemberservices.net. Luckily, I have an internet connection and attempted to do so. When I attempted to go to my account I was advised that THE WEBSITE SECURITY CERTIFICATE WAS OUT OF DATE! How can you people expect to conduct BANKING transactions with INADEQUATE SECURITY??? Obviously, I did not attempt to continue down this track and forwarded my payment via regular mail to an Omaha address that I had never made remuneration to before. My payment was delayed due to your Shoddy communication of your new business information Outdated and inaccurate Western Union bank transfer instructions INSECURE WEBSITE WHERE PAYMENT COULD HAVE BEEN MADE No opportunity to speak to a live operator to help solve my problems Since I had these problems due to your ineptness I was charged a 35.00 USD over limit fee as well as $35.00 late payment fee. I am disputing these charges and want you to remove them from my balance due. Further, I want this fact VERIFIED BY A PERSONAL PHONE CALL to my home number at xxx-xxx-xxxx. Apparently your company does not like to give much if any notice to changes that affect cardholders. I have included other articles relating to this highly unusual and deplorable treatment. Please also find my payment enclosed Sincerely,

Excess charges/

07/02/2003
One day I opened my mail and there was an increase in the late fee to $35 and an increased percentage rate to 27.6%. I did not receive advance notice of the changes nor did I find out about pending closure of the credit card until it was already canceled. Since FCNB is no longer servicing me I have had a problem getting in contact with the customer service department. The prompts tell you to enter your account number in, but it does not accept it nor will it transfer you to a representative. I have truly been inconvienced trying to make a payment online to avoid excess charges.

Check your Interest rate!

06/20/2003
After their closure, I just noticed on my last statement that they increased my interest rate to 27.6%!!! They did this without warning and without cause. Is this usury? They can't just raise interest rates arbitrarily because they are having financial difficulties can they? Everyone, check your statement then complain to the Better Business Bureau. If anyone is considering a group legal suit, I'm in.

Insurance Payment

05/30/2003
I enrolled my husband in a life insurance policy which was recommended by the FCNB. The payment was to be taken from my account on a bi-yearly basis. The first payment was fine, but when it came time for the second payment, it was denied. I had also attempted to use my card at a shoe store and the same thing happened. I did not understand because the card was paid up and the next payment was not due until the following month. My credit limit is over $2000.00 and I did not owe them but $800.00, but still I was unable to use my card. I began calling the company, using the number listed on the bill with no success. The information kept coming back as if you have any other problems accept paying by phone, please write to us and gave an address. So, I did just that and there has been no response. I think that I will just pay this card off and see if I can cancel the card. I do not need a card where you are unable to speak with a live person, and I do not need a card that has a high credit limit and there is no way to use it. I did not know they were having problems and I feel that card holders should have been told if there was a problem. I know one thing, if the payment is not received on time or for several months, they would find a way to get in touch with you.

Is this a Reputable company? I think Not!!!!

05/21/2003
What reputable company would close their cardholders acct. & then limit their ability to contact them w/valid issues. I tried contacting FCNB & everytime I would enter in my acct# I wz tld it was invalid, I cld not figure out why. The reason for my attempt to them by phone wz to make my pymt by phone as I had done with my previous pymts. Of course, bcz I cld nt get intouch w/anyone over the phne (other than getting a correspondence address) I figured I better go ahead & send in my payment by mail. Well you would know that I rcvd a $35 late fee I sent my pymt & it posted 2 days after the due date, even though I faithfully clld to process my pymt by phne & also included a letter to advise them of the many attempts I made. This did not stopy FCNB from charging me a $35 LF, any other reputable company I am sure would have taken my efforts into consideration (especially w/an enclosed letter) & waived the fee as a courtesy, being that their company is responsible for the inconvience caused to its cardholders. So yes, you may be able to rebuild your crdt, but what is it worth when the company you are trying to rebuild w/will eventually have you back where you started from, If you are not careful.
Most Attractive Feature: It does give you the opportunity to receive a credit card, however.....

Extra Charges!

04/21/2003
Since FCNB has gone into financial ruins about 6 months now, they have turned and begun to abuse the Consumers that own credit cards from their organization. I have had constant issues with them with getting my payments posted on time. I do not have this problem with any other bills which I mail all bills on the same day. For some reason, FCNB "First Consumers National Bank" ALWAYS POST MY PAYMENTS 2 days after it is due. What I have started to do is send my payments to them via registered mail, and I know for a fact now that my payments are received on time, but yet again the payment does not post until 2 days after the due date which then gives them enough time to charge late fees and over the limit fees. I have already reported them to the Better Business Bureau and I am now in search to see if the there are any Class Action Law Suits againts them. This company is making millions screwing over their Cardholders. It is time Cardholders seriously take a look at this company and join together to form a Global complaint. Since it is clear that FCNB "First Consumers National Bank" is out to abuse their Cardholders.

Look else where to rebuild your credit !

03/14/2003
I have had this card for a little over two years and have had nothing but problems with this organization. To date, I have never been late on any of my payments and have managed to rebuild my credit. If I had to do it all over again, I would of looked at other alternatives. This company has tried to bully me around several times has tried to over charge me on certain transactions that mostly included fees. These transactions were disputed and reversed, of course, since I have been a comsumer with integrity. However, their process of fixing errors has been very slow and in the mean time, their errors have accumulated intrest on my account that they later had to erase. As far as customer service is concern, they are not very friendly and have been usually cold towards me regardless of my loyalty and good consumer points. I am glad I cancelled my account recently and feel for all of you whom had to pay annual fees just before they cancelled your charging rights. I would call them my self and express my opinion; they should refund any unused portion of fees charged that you as a consumer are not going to use due to their cancellation of most cards. I would do this, but I now that their phones are always busy and I can never seem to get through a customer service representative. All in all, this is almost what I consider a legal scam, or is it legal, maybe that is why they are having a hard time being bought out and the Federal Government is shutting them down.... A wolf in a sheep's costume !
Most Attractive Feature: Offers people with bad credit an expensive chance to rebuild their credit !
Least Attractive Feature: High fees and high billing errors that take too long to get corrected !

FCNB was great but shutdown

03/12/2003
Actually liked them as a company started with a secured card, within a year had deposit returned and limits increased. After 1.5 years I applied for their Eddie Bauer MC, got it no problem with a rate of 4.9% for 6 months then zero interest from October to Feburary 2003. Heck I even started having the annual fee waved without a problem. But they are no more, my next recommendation for a card would be Orchard Bank (low annual fee) decent card. However if you have filed BK and Household Bank was one of your debitors you may not get the card. I have restablished myself enough with FCNB to get Capital One Platinum. GOOD LUCK all.

FCNB

03/03/2003
I have had my First Consumers National Bank Credit Card for 3years now. And I don't have a single complaint. I have never received my statements late. If I had a complaint with them; customer service people have always be polite and fair. I never sent in my payment more than 5 days before due date. And my payments have ALWAYS be posted on time. And I live in Central New York. The only thing I have to say that is negative about FCNB is there credit line increases. They need to increase their creditlines alittle more and more often. And that finding out they are terminating their charge accounts. Maybe, it's due to the people who don't pay their accounts on time and expect to not have to pay late fees or over the limit fees.

Canceled Card for no reason

03/03/2003
Has great payment history, still they reduced my credit line because I paid the card on the 3rd of the month. It was due on the 21st. Their cutoff date for the new month was the 5th. So, because I paid the payment in fact early, they posted into the prior month and showed it as a late payment. Had I paid the payment on the 6th they would have posted the payment in the current month. You can not reason with them. Horrible service.

FCNB

02/20/2003
an unscrupulous merchant posted an unauthorized credit charge on my card. He had posted the same unauthorized charge on my and my girlfriends card. I filed a complaint with FTC. They called it credit card cramming. When I called FCNB they (Jason ID 75) said the only way to get it off was to contact crooked merchant that he didn't need a signed charge slip or tape. I have filed a complaint against FCNB with BBB and Oregon consumers league. The state attorney general and FTC is next. When I asked what my next payment was they said $145. My normal payment without the unauthorized charge was $55. Don't patonize FCNB.

FORMER EMPLOYEE

05/20/2002
I used to work in a Capital One Customer contact center. I can tell some stories about how these folks make their money. Here is a good example: a customers statement ends on The 31st of the month and a new one begins on the 1st. The customer has a $200 credit limit and on May 30th charges $210.00 in merchandise. Of course the customer will get an over limit fee ($29)immediately. Also as soon as that statement rolls into a new month on the 1st that customer will recieve another over limit fee ($29)just one day later. The customer never had a chance to pay down the balance before getting another fee. They also charge late fees on the same day as due date when the payment was recieved on that due date. Their excuse is that it was recieved after 3 pm cutoff time even though the mail continues to run until 5 pm. They also charge overlimit fees for their late fees they add on as well as products and services that they add.As an associate we were not supposed to waive these fees, but I usually did which ultimately lead to my dismissal. You may want to read about a class action law suit that Californians are initiating against them for these same reasons. Sorrry about the length, be careful with these guys they are sharks!

The Worst Credit Card Gouging in History

02/25/2002
This card is the worst nightmare in mankind to this date. The FCNB secured Mastercard is centered to attract the uneducated, unemployed; the poor people's market who live off their credit cards for income. FCNB lures their victims by opening up a policy with the appeal of owning a CD. Of course, you will have to pay $150 first, plus processing fees. Once the account is in motion, FCNB hits them with everything 17-25% high end interest rates on their money that they deposited. Beware of purchasing anything with this card! Basically, FCNB makes a fortune with this policy on top of gouging late fees and high interest rates, makes a killing by placing your delinquent accounts in the "Big Three" credit bureau's. Companies pay to see negative info on credit reports. Nevertheless, I would not be surprised if FCNB gets a cut.

12/24/2001
I love this company and its card. I'm disabled, on a fixed income and the first thing my illness did was kill my credit rating. I responded to this comapny's mailing, they gave me a secured Visa with 300% of my deposit, they reviewed my account every 6 months, gave credit increases without my requesting one and they regularly offer 200% of any additional deposits I make. And best of all, after 18 months, they preapproved me for a NON-SECURED Master card, which gives me peace of mind to have a card with zero balance in case of emergencies. And because they are the bank that issues Spiegel/Eddie Bauer/ Newport News cards, I have that one as well.

Can't get new cards in mail

08/07/2001
Have had FCNB credit cards for 7 or 8 years. Never had any problems, has been a wonderful company. They have $1500 of ours and we have a credit limit of over $6000. We have never been late on one payment. Cards expired 05/01. Supposedly they have sent them 8 times. 4 times registered mail. We finally received on 8/4/01 cards postmarked 7/27/01 when I called to activate they said these were the cards mailed 6/13/01 and to cut them up, they were reported lost. I have recently been lied to by a supervisor and the customer service reps can't seem to give me a straight story! I don't believe the post office has screwed up that many times!! We do receive our bills just fine. I'm wondering if this company is having financial trouble and that's why I have come online to see if anyone else has had problems with them lately. I feel really bad to complain about them because in the past they have been great and never a problem. I am now wondering what will ever happen to my deposit with them, if I will be able to get it back, I hadn't even considered it until this problem that is seemingly unsolvable.

FCNB "We don't want your business!"

07/26/2001
I applied for the secured card over the phone. I was unable to get immediate acceptance and was told I would be contacted by mail. I received the "congratulations" letter in the mail shortly thereafter. The letter stated that I would need to send proof of address by sending copies of my phone and electric bills along with my deposit. I sent a copy of the phone bill and sent a copy of my car insurance bill and wrote on the insurance statement that my electric is included in my rent and that in lieu of the elcetric bill I was supplying them with another bill to verify my address. I sent them the money order of $500 and requested the card be sent express mail with in 5 days. I received the money order back 4 weeks later along with a letter declining my account. I called customer service and asked why I was declined since I was pre-approved. I was told that I failed to include my electric bill. Once again I explained that the electric is included in my rent and that I had sent other proof of address. The agent said I would need to reapply. I advised her that even if I did reapply it would not change the electric bill status. She said she was sorry and that she could only suggest I reapply. I called back two days later on a Monday hoping to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor said that she could not reactivate the application as I did not call within the allowed time after the rejection. I told her that I had received the rejection letter just two days prior. As it turned out I would of needed to call and dispute the rejection several days before the date of rejection letter. She told me I would need to reapply. I told her the reason I requested to speak to a supervisor is because I wanted to speak to someone who could understand that many apartment dwellers don't have electric bills and they were turning down an entire market because of "policy". She said she understood but said that I must reapply and tell the operator during the application that I don't have an electric bill. I asked why if it was so mandatory they never asked during the initial application? I informed her that it states nowhere on the application that it was necessary. She once again said that she could not help me and that I would need to reapply. I reminded her that I received both the acceptance letter and the rejection letter at the very same address that they wanted to verify. If it weren't the correct address I would of never received the correspondence and hence never the phone call! I asked her how can you turn away someone that is offering to give you $500.00 of their own money and will pay you interest to borrow against it? I told her that I was not going to reapply and that I was going to stay on the line till she either empowered herself to initiate a change in policy or tell me she didn't want my business. She said, "We don't want your business!" Thank you for declining my business FCNB!

While I can pay for just about anything over the internet and can pay all my other credit card bills with a mouse click, FCNB must have a check mailed, or if you want to pay by phone, you can call up and spend more than 15 minutes to be charged a fee for allowing them to get the money out of your account quicker. They put up a website that has no account access, but takes input of your feedback. What it does with the input is unknown as no response is given for any of twenty or more suggestions. I imagine that in their corporate offices they have seas of accountants manually adding up bills on their adding machines with the old punch, punch, punch pull the handle adding machine. This theory is supported by their inability to apply a payment for over twelve days after the check clears my bank account.

Look what they did to my credit rating!

My husband and I had an account with them since early 1989. Two years ago, without notice my husband was fired from his job of 21 years. We ask for a little lea way so that we could pay or morgage and other bills. We were behind 30 days--which is bad I know but we contacted them. They shut down our account and charged late fees then they lowered our credit limit and then posted over the limit fees on top of it. That sounds bad but it gets worse. We have worked with the collection agencies. (many of them) All from FCNB. Our credit is great except for these people. They are ruthless and cold with no feeling -- but then again -- they are only machines right!

Great card

From reading these other bad reviews, it seems these other people either cannot handle their credit, or they work for capital one. I have paid my account on time, in full every month, with no payment posting problems, and gotten increases without asking for them, and went unsecured after one year. Of course they're going to start people off with low limits, most of the accounts are for people who have bad credit! Why would you give someone with bad credit a $5000 low interest card? You wouldn't. I highly recommend this company, but get the name and i.d. number of everyone you speak with. P.S. I have never been charged for a call.

Great Review

03/24/2001
I think the people who are complaining or giving bad reviews on this card, are people who STILL don't know how to handle their credit. I have paid my account on time every month, no problems with payments posting timely, and was given an automatic credit line increase for good behavior. This company specializes in helping people re-establish credit, and therefore I would expect that they have to deal with a lot of stupid people, just like the people that write these reviews, and can't even spell! I know for a fact that FCNB has recently gone through an audit with the CCC(Comptroller of the Currency), and came out with flying colors.

FCNB = Freakin' Corniest National Bank

03/03/2001
FCNB is absolutely the pits. First of all, they can't seem to get the credit bureau reporting done right the first time. They reported lates, high balances and closed accounts when they shouldn't be. There credit dept. is also horrible. They don't know a thing about Credit Agencies, and give you the ultimate run-a-round. I closed my account and will never turn back. Besides they give out dirt cheap credit lines. $50-$100.00 That is ridiculous. They also charge you for virtually everything. From calling there service center, replacement cards, over the phone payments. It all adds up. Besides they are also into not sending statements. I received a statement on 02/16 and it was due on 02/14. They charged me $$$ for an over the phone payment, and still charged me $29.00 late fee. My account is now closed as of 02/28. Too much BS. Sticking with CapitalOne.

Beware...

02/21/2001
I've had this account opened since 08/00. I have maintained flawless payment history. I had $500 deposited and was given $1000 credit limit (200% of desposit). You must wait at least 6 months for a very small credit limit increase. ($50-$100 MAX per 6 months) Deal with the most incompetent and worse customer service reps, during business hours. They charge each time you call, whenever you need a new card and offer no online account access or payments. Very tidious bank and too old fashioned. I don't recommend the card. Additionally the card has the tackiest design. Not to mention, FCNB does NOT issue Gold or Platinum cards. You can't move up, and will always remain at the classic level. Please avoid. Go with CapitalOne.

Great Company Overall

02/14/2001
I did not use credit for over 20 years and had major problems with medical bills for the previous 10 years, which I started to straighten out, but couldn't get a card anywhere. FCNB was the best offer I found: Upfront with their fees and policies, and upon receipt of my secured deposit, issued me a card immediately. I have had the account since April and have steadly increased from a secured credit limit of $200.00 to a limit of $1300, of which $800.00 is secured. A couple of months ago, they started matching my desposits 2 to 1 for credit. The two negatives I have noticed are 1) It is VERY important to get the name of the person you speak to if there is a problem. Frequently, I have found that there is no record of a previous call. Supervisors are always helpful, but you spend a long time waiting for them. 2) They claim that QuickCollect deposits result in a credit limit increase within 48 hours. The reality is 72 and it irks me a bit that this is not openly stated. Overall, though, they have done what they said they would do as have I. I have had DOZENS of other offers that are not as straightforward as this and they end up in the round file. I highly recommend this company for anyone starting out or starting over!

kept promises and great agreement

01/29/2001
When i was younger i did'nt take my credit very seriously and made a mess out of my credit history. I could'nt get a credit card anywhere, so the only option i had was to get a secured credit card. After looking into finding the best bank to get such a card, i decided to go with First Consumer National Bank and get a secured Visa card. I sent FCNB $300 more then the minimum amount required to suit my needs for the amount of credit that i wanted at the time. About 5 weeks later i recieved a $400 Visa card, i made all payments on time, never went over the credit limit, basically fulfilled the agreement. 6 months passed and I was rewarded with $100 increase with no security, it was'nt much but, the point is they gave me the increase showing there gratitude, what impressed me was, i did'nt have to ask. Another 6 months passed still having an impeccable history with them, they offered me 250% on my next depsit. I did of course take them up on that offer. Bottom line,FCNB helped build my credit history to a great standing with no problems and no broken promises. I was never mislead or lied too and customer service treated me with respect with evrey call. I was able to get other credit cards because FCNB helped me build my credit history with no headaches, but of course you must fulfill your part of the agreement as well. I recommend First Consumer National Bank to all. My dreams can now and are coming true. Thank You FCNB. Sincerely, Mr. Safe Satisfied

01/26/2001
The card is pretty good. It has rebuilt my credit, low low min. deposit of $100 and they report as a standard R1 revolving unsecured credit line. However you have to wait 6 months for a cheap credit limit increase of $50, and the design of the cards are soo tacky. Additionally, they charge you to speak with a representative and for a replacement card. I rarely use the card in person. it's so tacky and poorly designed. But overall, if you don't care about card design and cheap credit limit increases, then get it.

Paying it off

01/25/2001
Don't get a card from First Consumers, if you file a bankruptcy they immediatly send you one. I have a $500 balance that i went over (approximatly $10) over a year ago and the more money I send them the less the balance becomes it always saves $501 or such so they can charge overlimit fees. I try to send $100 per month and it still never goes down I have to send in part of my tax check to pay the entire balance and pray that if finally pays the card off if it doesn't I will have to say that I will give up paying.

total dissatisfaction

11/29/2000
When I opened this account I had to put a deposit down and they matched for credit limit. I have had alot of trouble when close to credit limit. If you pay the minimum on statement the next statement will show a overlimit fee even without using card. When I call customer service they say it is because of interest charges. This is the only card I have that you have to add the finance charges to the minimum payment to not be charged extra each month. I feel the minimum stated on their acct should be the amount you pay without incurring additional charges. This is a very poor card for someone trying to establish credit or rebuild. It will distroy you.

PROMISED SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUND NEVER CAME, then my interest rate was raised

11/02/2000
Upon signing up for the card, it was promised that if you made all payments in 12 months on time, and never went overlimit, you get your initial security deposit back. Well, I paid 12 complete months, and even had a credit report that showed 12 months reviewed and made. however, when i called in 5/00 for my deposit back, i mistakenly volunteered that I was going to apply the whole thing to my outstanding balance, but I did not want to close the account, I wanted to keep the limit and availability where it was ($2300 secured a limit of 5800) the representative said that my account had only been opened for 11 mos and to call back in 6/00. Ok, I called back in 6/00 and was assured that I met all of the criteria to receive my deposit back. I waited. I called back in 7/00, to be told that my "request" for unsecured status was denied. No reason at all. This behavior directly conflicts with advertising and agreements. To make matter worse, I was counting on the credit to my avail balance to be posted at any time, thus giving me more of a cushion between my balance and limit. After the broken promises and finally being told three mos. later that I was declined, by balance went overlimit by less than $10 due to timing with payments. FCNB then raised my interest rate from 18.9% to 20.00% and charged me $29. My agreement does not say anything about interest rate hikes if you are overlimit just once. This whole thing seems like a scam to me. I am not exaggerating any of this. These people can not be trusted!! Be Careful!

I still have it.

11/01/2000
I first contacted FCNB in 1997. I had barely finished paying off my Divorce Debt and decided to start the credit card game again after 5 years without. Though the intrest was at 20% with an annual fee of $20.00, I ensured that I always carried a low balance and paid it off frequently. Within 2 yrs, they increased my limit to over $2000. Upon renewing the card at 2 yrs, they made the card unsecured and applied the money on deposit to my balance. I still have the card today, although now I have an unsecured Fleet Bank MC at 9.9% fixed, and a USAA Platinum at prime + 3.9% so I don't use the FCNB card much. By the way, the FCNB card is now at 16.00% with no annual fee. After you have maintained the card in good order for awhile, just ask them to lower the intrest rate. They will be happy to accomodate. Great people!

This card willl help you re-establish your credit!

09/12/2000
I declared bankruptcy in March of 2000. I needed a credit card to start making some positive marks on my credit report. Most offers sent to me though required a security deposit, had inital "membership fees", or high interest rates. This card required just an annual fee and $19 application fee. I snapped it up, and started with an initial credit line of $1000. The interest is still high (19%) but I just requested my first credit line increase, and had no problem as I had made my payments on time and paid more than the minimum payment required. This card is definitely for the person who has poor credit, and needs to start rebuilding.

THANKS to the fine folks at FCNB , the credit card queen feels human again. After a Bankruptcy, with a low minimum deposit of one hundred dollars I received my mastercard that became unsecured two years later. I then applied for a secured visa that as of this month and just 2 years after issue became unsecured. I am going to open a new one. Why? This is the only way I find that I can save money. I scratch and save to up that credit limit with additional deposits that continue to earn interest. They give you a credit line of 100%, 200% or 300% of your deposits. 07/07/2000
This was the very first credit card I had. I got it as a secured card when I was a college student. But, with an APR of 18% and higher, this card just isn't worth it. After paying the card off, I requested a lower interst rate. The customer service rep said the account would be reviewed and I would be notified in 30 days. It never happened. Each call resulted in the same conversation--the account would be reviewed and I would be notified in 30 days. This was 2 years ago. FCNB Secured Visa or Mastercard

03/29/2000
This is a great card. My credit was pretty bad when I applied for the securd card from FCNB. I gave them a total of $200.00 in my first year. My 1 year acceptence date was in January of 2000. FCNB gave me an additional unsecured credit limit increase of $300.00. I now have a credit limit of $500.00 with them. Also my $200.00 secured amount is earning interest. This company is very good. Make sure to make your payments on time every month. There monthly payments are really low. The most I have to pay each month is $15.00. I always pay more than the minimum though. The only bad thing is if you are late, they will charge you a few of $29.00. Make your payments on time and there is no problem. Thanks to FCNB, I have required a better credit rating and was able to get 2 additional unsecured credit cards. I never thought that would have been possible. Give them a try!
