Who can Help do something against this blatant rip off? Do not pay until you investigate!

05/26/2006
I paid a delinquent credit Circuit City card off in 1/2002 from 1995. As a single mom, I was glad to finally pay this debt off because I had been hit by an ambulance and all my bills fell delinquent. They stated I could settle for a certain amount by paying the principle balance and they turned around and sold the remainder of the balance that was supposed to be the interest they settled on to another collection agency S&P Capitol investments who charged interest and sold this balance to another credit agency Thornton Financial Services All without my knowledge. In 2005, I ran a credit report which showed my paying it off the first time and the same account being reported all three times as three separate accounts with the same account number originating with FNANB but I didn't pick up on it. Now in 2006, I am doing some credit repair and I call Thorton Finacial Services and make a settlement payment of $1348. They tell me I have satisfied the debt. Three weeks later my Mortgage co. is verifying payment and they tell her there is another $800 balance and it is not payed. So, I guess they can just keep this robbery scam going forever huh? Please, Please stay far away from Circuit City and FNANB. I am, and I will tell everyone I know.

Persistence is FNANB's motto

09/23/2004
I had two problems with FNANB. The first occurred when DISH Network terminated programming service because my equipment with hit by lightning and they provide on type of repair service. DISH was being paid with automatic payments thru FNANB and it took four months and over $ 400.00 to get the payments terminated. At one point, FNANB informed me that DISH was the decisionmaker concerning the termination of automatic payments. Second problem occurred after merger with Bank of America when they changed password and saw no reason to notify anyone. I was able to solve passwor problem quickly; I closed the account.

I just happened to find this site tonight, and I'm amazed that everyone seems to have the same story. My interest rate was raised way up to 24.99% with little reason! Then.. they sold my account shortly after. Seems they raised everyones rates in order to boost profits before the sale! Avoid!

Cheated!!!

04/05/2004
I am just finding out now what a joke this company is! In 2000, I took a loan out out to pay off my debt. As soon as I paid this card off, they closed my account saying that I was deliquent on my payments. As this may be true, they did some of the same things to me that I see they have done to some of you out there. They kept raising my limit and taking their sweet time to credit my payment to my account. Then the second they get my money, they boot me out. This is the only bad thing on my credit report in my whole life! I cannot believe that this company is able to get away with this!!! I have yet to try to get it off of my report, even though it's been 6 years.

Bogus Late Charge

04/01/2004
I did not even ask for this card but when Circuit City switched I had to as well. I only used it for making a 6 mos. no interest purchase at Circuit City. By the second month FNANB managed to throw in their bogus $29 late fee. Trying to correct this was impossible! We then complained to Circuit City who in turn complained to FNANB. Guess what? FNANB even told Circuit City "we don't care if its a mistake, we are not goint to change it"! So Circuit City gave us a gift card worth $29 to make it up. What nerve!! I absolutey HATE those thieves. I will pay off the account and cut up my card and send half to FNANB and the other half to Circuit City with a complaint letter and a vow to never make a large purchase at Circuit City. Perhaps if a few more people do the same Circuit City will drop FNANB.

Good customers - Watch out!

03/31/2004
I would highly recommend to anybody with a good credit history to close their FNANB accout immediately! They posted late payment charge on my account although I sent my payment 2 weeks in advanced! I always send my payments ontime and never had late charge posted on any of mine credit cards in my life! I have tried several times to go through FNANB absolutely terrible customer service and pursuade them to remove this anfair charge, but there is no hope - I feel like I'm talking to a computer - not a person. In fact, they have absolutely the worst customer service I ever experienced! I'm not surprized now that FNANB was fined for illegal practices.

FNANB Problems

02/26/2004
Just by chance, I decided to refinance the amount I had on this card, sitting at 19%, with another source. I decided to call FNANB to determine whether I could kick the interest rate down, telling them I was paying off the full amount and asking whether I should close the account or would they lower their rate. They told me about the letter that went out (I'm guilty for not reading it) and that they were increasing everyone to 24% and that this was not negotiable. Lucky timing on my part, I guess. A little research indicates that they had a high level of charge-offs for bad accounts, were trying to find a buyer, and had a lot of difficulty. They are apparently trying to recoup their losses and drive out customers. I think I saw someone saying they planned to just pay off the account rather than refinancing. I would really take a look at that strategy. Do some quick figuring on paper to determine whether an approximate 6% rate on a refinance would save you over 24% just in interest rates over 2 years. Then think of what you could do with the savings.

DO NOT TURST THEM

02/25/2004
I got a FNANB card 4 years ago. We had a bankruptcy in 1995 that they knew about. They gave us a 1000.00 limit and a 19% interest rate. Other than the 1995 bankruptcy (that came about through a business failure)our credit has been perfect! We even have 2 other premium credit cards that have very low interest rates. FNANB kept giving me increases on my card without my asking - up to $5,000. Over the years they were very good about reducing my interest rates becasue of our credit. I was at 13% which they told me was the lowest they ever go. In Jan of 2004 I got a notice that my interest rate was going to 22%. Why? Oh, we had a bankruptcy in 1995. What? I was shocked. I tried to explain to them they knew about that when they gave me my card and they could look at our history of paying. They were sooooo rude and nasty and said I either paid the 22% or they would close my account and I could keept the 13%. Well, I paid off the entire balance. No way was I going to give them more money. There should be a law against this especially at a time when so many people are out of work and struggling to make ends meet. We need a class action lawsuit agianst these people. This is nothing more than baiting people!

Raised my interest rate despite a good record of payment and has not refunded my overpayment after I closed my account.

02/23/2004
I have had all kinds of problems with this credit card company. I finally had enough in December 2003 when they raised my interest rate for no apparent reason. I decided to close my account but in the process I mistakenly paid about $1,100 more than I owed. I have since then been trying to get a credit check issued to me but with no success. Wish me luck.

Unwarranted harassment

02/18/2004
My brother has an account with FNANB, which I would not have known had they not contacted me this past Sunday evening. Had they simply been trying to locate him, I would not be writing this review. Unfortunately, they were trying to use me in an effort to harass him, and I refused to assist them. I am frankly disgusted at this violation of both my brother's and my own privacy and would advise anyone considering doing business with this "bank" to seek out other options.

Information

01/29/2004
Hi In an effort to help out a friend with similar circumstances I phoned the company, after going through CC's website. While the person on the phone with me was incredibly nice; I suspect because I acted as if I wanted to open an account. I am sure he didn't like the questions I was asking. But, here's the information on how to reach their corporate offices Richmond Va 804-967-2940 Marietta Ga 770-792-4600 They have a president but he apparently doesn't have a direct line. Good Luck to you all - and THIS is why I don't hold creditcards - don't even get me started about Citibank!

Raising of Interest Rate of an Outstanding Customer

01/27/2004
I received a letter indicating that the interest rate on my credit card would be raised based on info received from credit bureau. There is nothing negative on my report to warrant an increase in interest rates, especially when the interest rates are so......low. When I contacted customer service, I was told it had to do with my credit report. I said, what about the fact that I had never missed a payment and always paid at least 15 days ahead. Customer service rep. said I can see that you are a very excellent customer, but indicated that I did not always pay anything over the minimum amount asked to pay. Do not get a FNANB/Circuit City credit card, you will be treated unfairly.

Worst customer service so far

01/20/2004
As on previous complaints I read, FNANB raised the Interest rate on my CC complaining some serious delinquency or collection filed. Looked on my credit report, nothing like that, my credit report is at its best. After trying to contact customer no-service, they said what was done was done and they would not change the rate again. Tried to contact a manager, no luck; customer service said they don't take calls on complaints and said 'Don't even espect a call back from any manager" Trying to find a way to file a complaint with maybe BBB

SOAK THE POOR

12/22/2003
Just got a notice that they were increasing my interest rate, late charges, etc., because of a credit report. If anyting, my credit report has improved since I got their card a couple of years ago. I have missed no payments and often paid more than the minimum; but now I am faced with the choice of heavily increased fees or closing the account. Does this happen to American Express Gold Card holders? What is the FTC doing these days???

Had a problem with billing could not get past first base. Left name number to get a return call. Was told that I would have a return call in 72 hrs. That never happened. called back again and was shuned off. Ok I don't have to do my C.C. purchases with you there is many offers that I have from other banks. I'll be talking to the people at Circuit City and inform them as to the very poor service from you. This is how I got involved with your bank in the first place. I would guess that your people don't know that the card holders are what is used to develop capitol to operate. I have closed the account which was the only part they were willing to help with.

Not off to a good start

12/13/2003
Let me get the good stuff out of the way: Customer service removed our first late fee and finance charge. That's the good part. To start, we purchased a TV for about $210 with the no-finance-for-a-year deal. I should have known something was up when I applied for the card at the store and no "fine print" was included ("you can probably get that online")... We received the card, but no bill - and did not activate the card. Normally this shouldn't matter, but I don't think that's the case this time. Anyway, the first bill we received was a month late - and had the late/finance charges applied, which, as noted, were removed when we called. However, we have been receiving calls from a 770-area code number, which until this morning we assumed was just sales who wasn't paying attention to the national Do Not Call list. As you've probably guessed, this is the credit card company. Called at 8:40, by the way, and I'm not sure that's legal from what I've read. I'll look into it. To make a long story short, our current bill, their online statement, and the collector's numbers do not come close to matching up. My suspicion is that Circuit City (I'll hold them accountable) doesn't send a bill if the card is not activated, or simply doesn't send one, and neither company wants to keep a straight financial records system. To top things off, the collection agent who called this morning - when I prompted him to simply tell me how much we owe - told me it was $37 (a number I can't find anywhere else) and - GET THIS - it's due NEXT WEEK. WTF?

Extreme Caution

12/07/2003
Do an Internet search of First North American National Bank. There are far too many complaints regarding this bank to ignore or dismiss. They appear to target ethnic groups, women, the elderly, and those of lower income. These are the groups who normally cannot afford legal assistance. After signing on with this bank, expect wrongly applied late fees and added charges, perhaps once or twice a year. It's a scam, but who's going to find it cost-effective to take legal action over $29 or $48, even if you can afford an attorney? However, if per customer per year, it's a whole new method of generating millions of dollars in revenue for the bank... Ingenious; you gotta luv 'em.
Most Attractive Feature: Great deception

Bogus late fee charges

10/28/2003
I recently made a purchase at Circuit City and used this bank to finance a portion of this purchase. It was one of those "interest free loans in which no interest or finance charges would be assessed if the loan was paid off within a certain time frame. I received a "$29 late fee charge" for a payment that was sent in ON TIME. Their customer service people were rude and refused to remove this bogus charge. I have excellent credit and am never late on payments. I can't help but think this is a scam they use to recoup some money on an otherwise interest free loan!

FNANB? You don't know the half of it!

09/18/2003
Circuit City/FNANB exists for one reason only: to screw you the consumer out of your hard earned money in any way it can, i.e. exhorbitant and uncompetitive interest rates, various fees and charges, unwillingness to service customers with errors on accounts, refusal to correct payment history despite a company error, deceptive sales practices and intentional misinformation. If you're smart you'll avoid FNANB like the plague and you'll make your purchase in cash or with another credit card!

received fnba credit card with checks promising 5.9% balance transfer. so i tranfered funds checking my next statement i was being charged 11.9% so i called and was informed it was a keying error and it would be adjusted and corrected on the september statement. the september statement came and it was not corrected i called explained the problem again wanted to talk to a supervisor. was stalled off the lady sayd she would email the supervisor. so i let it go at that. now 7 days later with my payment date comming up i decided to call again to see if anything was done to lower the interest rate and adjust the overcharge on the interest rate. this time i was able to talk to a suppervisor the bottom line was no there has been no adjustments made as yet we will make the adjustment eventually you just have to wait. asked to talk to her supervisor or to the department that does the adjusting said she could not do that. asked to be informed when the charges would be reversed she said i would see it on My statement. SO I WOULD SAY CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. I WOUNDER WHEN THIS INTEREST RATE GETS EVENTUALLY ADJUSTED IF IT WILL BE ADJUSTED FAIRLY OR THERE WILL BE ANOTHER KEYING ERROR IN THEIR FAVOUR.

Thought it was a good card until yesterday...

08/05/2003
I've had this card for about a year and a half. We bought a very nice digital camera in Dec 2001 on their 12 months/no interest plan, and paid it off in Dec 2002. We then decided to purchase a home stereo system, again on the 12 months/no interest program. Their online payment system was very convenient for me. Everything seemed great. THEN, I get a letter yesterday stating that I was overdue on my account. I made a payment last month, 3 days before the due date, online, but they show that I never did. I checked my bank statements, and they never submitted the payment I had set up. So I call to ask them to remove the $29 late pmt fee (because I had not made a late payment). This winner of a customer service rep (and I use that title loosely) proceeded to tell me that without a confirmation number, I had no proof that I made the payment, which meant that I either made no payment or used the website incorrectly. I had made several payments before this on the website, so obviously I know how to use it. He just kept repeating that without a confirmation number, I had no proof and he he could do nothing. I asked to speak to his manager, to which he replied, "I am a supervisor, you can speak to me." Nice. I think they train them all to say that. So I'm going round in circles with this guy, when he proceeds to laugh at me! Dunno about you, but my boss would fire me in a heartbeat for that. Anyway, I finally get him to admit that his manager is not there, and that I can call back tomorrow. After I got off the phone, I made an online payment in the amount of last month's payment plus the amount due this month. I nearly fell out of my chair when a confirmation number appeared neither on the confirmation screen on the website, nor in the confirmation e-mail I received. There's no such thing as a confirmation number for their online payment system. This guy was just screwing me around. Not since dealing with Sprint PCS have I encountered customer service so poor. After our stereo is paid off in December, we will burn our FNANB cards and close our accounts. Best Buy has never pulled garbage like this. Not to mention, Best Buy has a much better selection. Who needs this kind of trouble for a second-rate store?!

I didn't ask for PC Magazine

07/25/2003
I purchased a TV from Circuit City and received this card for the 6 months same-as-cash deal. That opurchase and payoff went well. Then, about a year later, I get a statement with a $39.97 PC Magazine subscription that I didn't request. I called customer service, followed the prompts (the first one is "if you've received a bill for a magazine you didn't order ..."), and cancelled the magazine. Think it's over? It's only begun! I then got another bill a month later, plus $29 late fee. I then called to correct, and cancel the card, which I was told it was. Since then, I've gotten 2 threatening letters and a direct phone call demanding I pay the bill, which is now up to $129.89. I've been lied to on the phone, and now threatened with a suit. DO NOT DEAL WITH FNANB!! They are liars, cheats, and a bunch of thugs! I hope they sue so I can countersue for harassment!

DON'T EVER GET THIS CARD!!!

07/22/2003
I recently received the credit card from FNANB, never again!!! I ran into an issue of not getting a bank statement, so I called to see whee the statement was. The payment was a few days late. They explained to me that if they did not get the statement back that there was nothing to do about the statement or the late fee of $29 that was put on my account. I even went to the top calling the CEO in Richmond, VA to try to get this matter settled. I have found out that if you do not receive your statement it is your fault, and if they do not receive your payment it is your fault. They are not willing to take the blame for anything!! After speaking with the CEO, customer service, and supervisors I got no where. I requested that my account be closed and a letter be sent. Still no letter. I closed the account and paid off the balance that was stated on my last statement. I recently received a bill from them for $0.03. A waste of paper!! This is the biggest joke company. It is a wonder that they are still in business! I have told everyone that I know not to get a card with them. If they are filling out an application for a credit card and it says FNANB they will refuse and shop at the competitors. I am going to call the bank to see why I received this $0.03 bill just to prove a point how stupid this company is!!

07/18/2003
I lost my purse and reported the lost FNANB credit card 5 years ago. They didn't cancel my card (because I found the purse) but issued me a second card, with a credit limit of $6000, with a new number. My husband verified with FNANB that it was a valid card that we could use, and he was assured we could. So we bought a truck with it. Problems started then, they wanted $6000 'over the limit' payment - ended up making it a 'pay only' card, which was fine with us. Two years later we paid off that second card, and we thought, closed the account. I've been using that original card ever since, charging, paying off after a year or so, charging again. Have never gone over the limit, been late with a payment, etc. The last time I used the card was last Saturday, when I put gas in my car - no problem. Sunday morning I tried to use it again, and it was denied. I tried to call FNANB and of course there's no one there on Sunday. Called Monday from work, was told by the customer svc person that they'd done a 'switchover' on their computers, and a lot of accounts were 'whacked'. She said she'd have to research the problem and I needed to call back the next day. So, I did, at 7AM - Muddled through the 'technical difficulties with the phone system', and went through the whole story one more time. This woman kept asking me to hold on 'a moment' and finally I told her I wanted her to connect me with a supervisor. She asked for my work number and said a supervisor would call. Of course, no one did. Wednesday I started out at 7AM one more time. Gave the customer svc person the condensed version of the ordeal, and then asked to speak to a supervisor. She put Keith on the phone. He said there were some 'errors' in how my data was transferred when the computer switchover took place. They had all the events, but had the dates screwed up. He said they were going to issue a NEW card, in my husband's name, and it would be Fedex'd to me Thursday. The authorized users card, for me, would reach me on Friday. Well, it's late Friday night, and no cards. When I called FNANB after the Fedex driver came and went, I was told Keith was out of the office and there was no one else who could help me. I find it hard to believe that this one female answering the phone was the ONLY one working today!! And apparently Keith is the 'head honcho' there, because she said he has no superior over him!! Wow, I'm really honored I got to talk to him!! Bright and early Monday morning, I'll be on the phone again. This weekend I'm going out of town to go shopping with my daughter for her upcoming wedding - with no credit card! I've had to borrow money for the weekend from friends - when I talk to FNANB on Monday I'm going to ask for a raised limit and a lowered interest rate!!! Oh, by the way - instead of going through the hoops and 'press 1', 'put in your Soc Sec #', etc, etc, etc...Just keep pressing zero - it'll take you right to a customer service person.

Lousy Customer Service

07/17/2003
A customer must have given my phone number, which is now of FNANB record. I've written complaint letters and the annoying calls continue. Customer service employees and their supervisors tell me how easy it would be to remove my number from their records and assure me it will be done yet I continue getting calls. The last one came at 5:30 a.m. I understand there are laws about making calls at illegal times. I'm guessing 5:30 a.m. is illegal. Many of the people I've spoken to are offended by my questions of them when all I'm trying to do is get answers to why I'm bothered when I've repeatedly told them the person they're looking for doesn't have my number. They don't have enough consideration to understand how offensive I find what they're doing to me. I'm fed up with the harassment. If they treat their real customers like this I wouldn't want any part of doing business with them.

Beware of account reactivation after cancellation w/out your permission

06/30/2003
I initially got this credit card because of its no interest option. I used it to pay off a TV and DVD player in a year. That was 4 years ago. Since then I have tried to cancel my account twice and about to call a THIRD time. Each time I am told that the account has been cancelled. Then it is reactivated and I am sent a new card (usually a year or two later). I just called AGAIN to cancel about a month ago and my credit report says the account was "transferred". Today, I got "checks" in the mail to use against my account. It is not worth the pain of trying to close the account when you decide to. I can't believe it's legal to reactivate accounts without the cardholder's permission.

Okay, first off everyone who is complaining are the people who pay late. If you make your payments on time like you should, you wouldn't be upset about Late fee's and collection calls. Don't get a credit card and use it if you can't pay on time. Thats the whole purpose of a credit card. Use there money, and pay them each month by your due date. <-- Payment must be received by due date, not mailed on due date. Common sense people.

Late charge is way out of line......Shop at any store but Circuit City !!!

04/25/2003
I have had a acct with circuit city for 5 yrs and this month was my FIRST late payment charge. It will never again be late as $29.00 a month late fee is excessive and I am paying off the acct and will shop at other electronic stores in the future. When I tried to talk to the Bank & Circuit City customer service it was a trip. This company and the people they hire to work for them in customer service could never make it in the real world of a CLASS 1 company. This was the rudest customer service call I have ever made. Due to the excessive late fee and their policy not to give you a courtesy credit, do not deal with them

04/09/2003
I got this card at Circuit City when I bought my new Panasonic widscreen HD TV because they were offering 12 months 0% financing. Unfortunately, I made a payment a few days late, it happens, I'm only human. I called customer service to see if I could get it credited, which I've done many times with other VISAs that I posses. Not that I make payments late all the time, but it happends once in a while. To my surprise their customer service said they wouldn't credit it unless it was bank error. So I wrote to them thinking that if they had it in writing they might reconsider. I even threatened to pay off the balance and close the account. Then they make no money off me besides the $29 late fee they charged. Their response was the same. It is simply unacceptable for me to own a credit card that doesn't allow a late payment once in a while. I'm going to pay off the balance and close the account. The only attractive thing about this card is the 0% financing for 12 months, but don't expect it to carry any of the perks that you're used to on your normal VISAs.

The business I worked for went out of business. I got behind on my payments until I could find another job. When I got another job; I started paying them twice a mth $150.00. I was told that by paying this way I would be caught up by Apr 2003. I was called nightly 2 or 3 times to remind me about my payments (From OCT 02- Apr 03). ON approx 23 Mar 03 I was called and told I only was $19.00 behind. I sent them 150.00. ON Apr 8,03 I was called and told I was $400.00 behind. I asked to speak to a supervisor. (jessica #6511) the supervisor from Hell answered the phone and told me I was a liar, a cheat, and didn't know what I was talking About. I have Called a Lawyer about action under the Fair Debt Collection Act. DO NOT GET THIS CARD!!!!! Hidden charges abound and their people are uncouth and incourtieous.

Dont be late or mail your payment on its due date. If they do not receive payment before the due date expect several phone calls all day for 7 days a week . The number they give you to call is an automated service. If you go throught all the menus you will till get phone calls. Even if you state you have mailed your payment. You will have to turn on your ansering machine and clear it once a day if it fills up. Nothing will stop these calls until they receive payment. Saying the checks in the mail dosent work with fnanb.

YOU NEED THIS CARD

02/16/2003
First, if you think of this card as a Visa, you will be disappointed. Think of this card as a Circuit City Charge with the advantage of being able to use it when you need a Visa. As compared to other Visa Cards the intrest rate is high (Can range between 14.9% - 24.95%). My card is at 19.9%. The advantage to this is that I STILL get the promotional benifits offerd by Circuit City (such as 90 days same as cash) but if I fail to pay the balance off in the 90 (or whatever the plan may be) days, the intrest rate is then computed at 19.9% which is a bargin compared to the other retail cards out there. Plus credit limits are high and the online customer service is excellent. The card offers a way for you tp pay your bill online. I suggest this card to any electronic nut.

I learned from my mistakes with credit cards when I was younger. With this card I paid my bill on time, thanks to the in store (Circuit City, payment feature. I was always on time because as long as you made the payment by 9:00PM that day your account was credited on time. Other CC have dead line of 1:00PM on the due date, even wiyh online payments. Thanks in part to FNANB I now have two platinum cards, American Gold and a credit rating over 700. Still the biggest key is to PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME!!!

Very difficult automated phone system

01/31/2003
I have an account with an electronics retail store and have not used this account for several years. I received notice that my "store" account was being converted to a credit card account and I would be receiving credit cards in the mail. Aside from the offensive practice of sending unsolicited credit cards, my experience with FNANB's automated telephone system was a nightmare. First, after calling several times and trying to talk to a customer service representative, I was told by an automated voice that my account had been transferred to another company and to call them. The other company did not have any records of my account. I called the automated system again and to try and talk to customer service. I eventually pushed all the right buttons and got through. Total time? 35 mintues! I would never consider dealing with a company that is this difficult to talk to. Buyer beware!

First, customer service doesn't give you an option to talk to a real person until the whole automated system runs its course and is never given as an option. Only after listening asking me to make a selection twice, it forwarded me to a customer service rep. Then, having purchased an item on the no interest 12-month plan, because I made the mistake of using it for other regular purchases, they considered the plan as an outstanding balance, therefore carried over past the 25 day grace period for regular purchases and charged me a finance charge even though I had paid those regular charges in full within the 25 days. Late posting of ontime payments

07/16/2002
I had this card for a couple of years but got rid of it. The reason: payments I sent 2 weeks early would not post on time. I finally started sending them return receipt and sure enough they were receiving my payments within 2-3 days of mailing but not posting them until after the due date. When I called customer service, they removed all my late fees for about 6 months back when I informed them that I had proof that they had been receiving my payments on time. They blamed it on a "separate processing center" that they pay to process their bills. It was great that they removed the late fees but that didn't change the blemish on my credit so I got rid of them, after making the drive to Circuit City (to ensure timely recording of my payment) for several months until I could get it paid off. The point is, if you don't take action they will continue to screw you. Don't get this card.

Constant Statement Errors

02/17/2002
These are the people that are associated with Circuit City Stores Inc. I have had this account for a number of years, and use it very infrequently. Part of the reason is that Circuit City Stores rarely have the best prices and their inventory has frequent missing items. However the worst part of dealing with these people is that they just cannot get the account records correct. Payments are misapplied. Charges are misapplied. Credits do not show up. Funny charges appear that require seemingly endless time on hold in their network of telephone confusion. My plan is to pay off the account and just use my happily reliable Bank Of America Visa card in the future. I'll also be shopping more online and at other stores unless Circuit City pays attention to what Best Buy is doing and adjusts their selection and pricing.

Decent Card

08/10/2001
I have had this card for almost 5 years. This is a 'silent' card - they never call me or try to sell me anything; basically, they just approve my charges and send me statements. I pay online via my credit union or bank's bill-payment, and payments post in two days. Payments can also be made at any Circuit City store, and mailed checks (prior to e-pay) always posted promptly and correctly within 3 days. They recently added online account information, which was needed (no online payment, though). My one gripe is that they never offer special balance transfer deals; however, they sometimes offer 3-months deferred interest on purchases made during a specified month. There is no annual fee for my card if I charge at least $2K in the 12 months preceding my anniversary date. The interest rate is OK at 15.9%, but they use two-cycle billing. Customer service has been satisfactory the few times I've called. Overall, this is a decent 'no-frills' card, and I've had no problems with them.

The card that's not for me…

07/27/2000
Those looking to reestablish credit, should look to this company. After a bankruptcy, I was given a pre-approved $2000.00 credit line. I thought this was a good deal. They kept increasing my limit, over a period of about 4 years, until it reached $4400.00.Unfortunately, I once again got in over my head. Each month I would charge over my limt, however, they seldom charged me an overlimit fee ($25.00), which made it very easy to continue to charge. Recently, I closed the account, but, they told me to let them know if I wanted it opened again, and they would do so. This is a good company to do business with, IF YOU CAN HANDLE MONEY. Their customer services reps are polite and professional, if you can reach one. Their computerized phone system, makes it very hard to do so. Their interest is high (19.9%) but, if your balance is over $2000.00 there is no annual fee. I probably will not reopen this account, but the problem is me, not the company.
