Got this at 9.9% fixed until they decided to change that about 18 months later. I sent my letter of rejection, CERTIFIED/RETURN RECEIPT MAIL (the only kind you can prove in Court), and told them I reject their intent to assess variable interest rate. Thus the card was inactivated and the account was to be paid out at the 9.9% fixed per the original terms of the account.
Well, lo and behold, not 4 months later, my statement now shows a whopping 13.9% variable being assessed. I have called and they indicated it was a "system error"; but look at the fine print on your statement and it will say that calling is pretty much worthless, you have to write them AGAIN.
So I did, and also sent a copy to my State's Attorney General for their files and future action - just like recently was slapped against Providian in California, see website http://www.occ.treas.gov/00rellst.htm.
