"Bad Ners"
Someone had my credit card # but not the expiration date, tried to put through a charge. The company correctly stopped it, but they also stopped paying legitimate charges. Apparently they have a computerized security program that does this. I complained several times. Then someone else was trying to put through other charges - apparently identity theft. I immediately notified the company, but they wouldn't reverse the charges. So I cancelled the card by certified mail. They don't cancel you, no matter what. So now someone again put through charges with the card, and they're trying to get me to pay. I wrote them letters, but they ignore them.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

"First USA"
In 1996, I changed residences and put in a change of address form. First USA kept sending my bills to my old address and apparently whoever was living at my old address kept disposing of them. By the time I knew of anything untoward happening, First USA had renewed a service that I no longer used and had told the credit bureau that I was 120 days in arrears. I have talked to customer service and sent letters showing the company's mistake to no avail. I just got another credit report and it shows that First USA shows my account closed by them because I was 180 days in arrears. Yet, they have issued me 2 more cards. Does this mean that the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing? I would think so! This is certainly not a good way to instill confidence in your business.

"First USA are crooks"
I used one of there checks that they mail out to pay off other high interest cards. I thought i would take advantage of this offer because i was at 16 percent on another card. I called FIRST USA before i used the check to mak sure it would be as described. I was assured it was as described if i always paid on time. I asked if i could pay on line and i was told yes and that would be the best way to keep everything current. I set up the auto draft on line and thought everything would be fine. They sent me some papers to sign and i returned them. I didnt know they would not start taking the money out oaf my account until after they received the signed paper. I didnt check on my account for 4 months. when I opened the bill I was paying 24.99 percent interest. (Now this is bank robbery) I called and was told I was late the first 2 payments because the letter did not return in time to start auto draft, witch they forgot to mention.It did absolutely no good to talk to them. I dont recommend doing business with these people because they operate just on the edge of fraud and robbery.I used one of there checks that they mail out to pay off other high interest cards. "Member comments"
The First USA Platinum Master Card has been a solid fixture in my wallet for quite some time now, so I thought I would give you some feedback by writing in some customer comments online. I would like to praise your customer service branch. Each time I call for anything, I am always met by a friendly and helpful voice. This impresses me since I'm sure they are swamped each day by tons of requests by customers. An example of this good customer service is when I wanted to lower my limit so I could use it for online purchases without worrying that someone would get my information. All my needs and questions were met on the spot with no problems. I lowered my limit so they would only be able to have access to a small amount of credit.

"Traveler BEWARE !!!!!!!!"
Before leaving for Europe I secured a rental car with this card. I also called the bank and told them I would be traveling and asked if there would be any difficulties as I would be gone several weeks. The reply was that everything was fine and that I should enjoy my trip and use the cards. Upon arrival in Europe and at the rental car agency I discovered that both of my platinum visa cards with this bank had been blocked and their customer service would not tell me why. I immediately e-mailed First USA bank and asked for an explanation as I was stranded in Europe. I asked for an immediate e-mail reply and also included phone numbers for my residence in Europe.The bank did not respond. Instead several days later the bank wrote a letter to my home address in the United States stating that there was a question of fraud and that I should contact them immediately. As I was in Europe this could not be done. Upon my return I called the bank and after stating my concerns over their blocking not one, but two cards; their reply was thanks for calling and that they would lift the blocks. I had used these cards many times in Europe previously and had never had them blocked prior to this trip. Their staff refused to see why I had been so concerned over their action. I also sent a follow-up letter to customer relations asking that my concerns be addressed. After a month I still have not received a reply. Although one of the cards is renewable this month I choose not to do so. In the many years that I had both the cards, they were always paid in full on time every month. Perhaps that is why USA bank is not responding as they do not get interest charges on my accounts. I now have a new account with a set due date every month, the service is immediate and customer friendly. I receive the same milege benefits at half the annual cost of the USA bank card.

"NEVER EVER use First USA "
If you get one, throw it away. They will stick you with extra fees for no reason. There is no point in calling them, nothing will get worked out to your satisfaction, and that's just the way they like it. They love baffle you with B.S. til you scream! It also doesn't matter to them how long you have been their customer: two late payments and it's on to a collection agency, and you really don't want that because the agencies they use are worse than them! I repeat: THROW OUT ANY FIRST USA CARD IMMEDIATELY, unless you deperately *want* a preview of h e double l.

"Great Card if you make payments on time"
I have had my First USA Platinum Mastercard for the last 5 years and my First USA Gold Visa for the last 6 years. If you make your payments on time their rates are great (my rates have actually gone down since I got the cards and I have never requested lower rates). The drawback on the card is when you try to do a chargeback. I have had 2 occasions to dispute charges due to vendor/merchant fault. Both times, First USA suspended charges, "investigated", and (after a few months) put the charges back on. The first chargeback request SHOULD have been honored. It was clearly vendor fault. The second request was denied because the payment was made by one of their "checks". They said that it would have been covered if it had been a direct charge to the card. Apparently their "checks"
are not covered under "Consumer Protection Rights", but they won&#'t tell you this until you dispute a charge. And they do not have the information in any of their literature (at least they didn&#'t before now).

If you are late paying on RARE occasions, they are very good with reversing late fees.

"NO LEEWAY WITH CUSTOMERS"
THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO WAIVE A LATE FEE AND FINANCE
CHARGES DUE TO THE ANTHRAX IN THE MAIL. I NEVER
RECEIVED THE STATEMENT AND WHEN I RECEIVED THE NEXT
MONTH'S STATEMENT, I HAD ACCUMULATED LATE CHARGES
AND FINANCE CHARGES. I ASKED CURSTOMER SERVICE TO
LOOK AT MY PAYMENT HISTORY AND THAT I AM NEVER LATE
OR MISS A PAYMENT AND WOULD THEY WAIVE THE CHARGES.
THEY REFUSED TO SO I CANCELLED THE CARD INSTANTLY.

"First USA is Good & Bad"
First USA has both good and bad points. The offer a fairly high credit limit and reasonable interest rates, but they charge a fee for balance transfers. The exception is when you first sign up, so this might be a good card to do a one-time balance transfer to get a low intro rate then payoff or transfer the balance BEFORE the expiration. Then either cancel the card or keep it just as a backup. But I would not recommend it as your long-term primary card because there are too many hidden fees.

"don't get suckered by their convenience checks"
Their convenience checks are a scam in that they will give you the advertised rate ONLY IF THEY process the check by the stated date. What happened is that even though I deposited the check days before the deadline, they took a week to process the check AFTER they received it and charged me their highest interest rate (as well as a fee!). They suck. I'm paying off the balance and cancelling the account.
