"Beware of Fees!"
The Gap card seems great because of the discount, but beware of the late fees. I purchased something from Gap in 2008 for $80 and did not receive any notice until 2011 when I received a letter indicating that my debt had been transferred to Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) and I owed $351. When I called Gap, they said the balance had been sold to PRA and they could not help me. Portfolio Recovery Associates has been bothering me to pay this balance and when I submitted a protest to them about this charge, they paid no attention to it. I am not very happy that GAP and GE Capital can sell your card balance to a debt collector along with your personal info, like SSN#, Address and other information. I lived at the same location for the past years and never received anything from GAP. It is funny that GAP never contacted me about my balance, yet Portfolio Recovery Associates was able to get a hold of me right away.

Don't get the GAP card!!!

"Baby Gap in McAllen Tx. Scamed me. The manager is Dee Silva"

GAP SCAM

Customers of GAP
Hereby I want to share a fraud they did to me GAP Baby store in La Plaza Mall in McAllen Tx. On July 22, 2011 at 2:06 pm the “undermanager” of name "Roberto", the cashier with the employee number 2213362 which I think his name is "Lazaro" as well as the manager of the shop Dee Silva.

As events occurred:
The day July 22nd, 2011 my wife, my daughter, my father and I went to the Baby Gap store with the intention to buy some clothes for our daughter who had an advantage 40% off storewide at which I carried $ 150 USD cash in my wallet. My wife and I proceeded to pick out clothes while my father took care of our daughter, I had a calculator in hand to make sure I didn’t pick out more than the cash I had. Once we finished picking out the clothes we went to the cashier with the employee number 2213362 , he offered us a GAP credit card with which GAP would automatically give us an additional 15% discount so we would have a 55% discount, the 40% discount that the store had plus 15% for getting the card. Obviously before we got the card my wife on several occasions asked if there was any condition, any annuity to which the employee answered "NO", and told me that I only had to present official documents like Social Security number and ID and that it within minutes they told us if I qualified or not, and if the answer was positive they would give me an extra 15% discount.
After 2 minutes we were indicated that we passed and the card would arrive in a couple of days or weeks to our home. At that time the under manager of name Roberto came to hear what the cashier was telling us and interceded and told him that he was wrong and that they would give us the 15% discount until we had our card in hand, but for this occasion as the cashier had offered us the extra 15% discount he would honor the 40% discount plus 15%. (-55%)
Seeing that they were going to respect this discount I felt it was very cheap so I told my wife to bring two items more so the final total was $ 77.84 USD to what I proceeded to take out my wallet to pay cash , the cashier took the money and returned the change, he made me sign some papers a couple of times with the "pretext" to finish the credit card requirements.
We left the store with two bags containing a total of 9 articles and as I saw that I still had money left we went to see other stores.

Note: We have never obtained cards from other stores, we acquired the GAP card on the pretext solely and exclusively to get the extra 15% discount that the cashier had offered us because I'm used to paying cash only.

After a week we received our GAP card to our address and we didn’t even open it, much less activate it, as my wife put it away in a file because we had no intention of future use.
In late August my wife, my daughter and I came to visit our family to Mexico City for a season, a couple of days after my father who lives with us in McAllen Tx. gave me a call to inform me that he had received a call from the GAP store telling him we had a debt with them because we had purchased merchandise in the Baby Gap store with the card which was absurd and impossible as the card is not only still stuck to the paper in the envelope that we received therefore is neither signed nor activated, I told my father it was impossible because our card was still saved and the purchase we had done I paid it in cash, and the amount the recorder had did not match the billing amount they gave me at the store which was of $ 77.84 USD. The debt in the recording machine that came out was $ 195 USD. My dad continued to receive calls and told me that we should seek for the receipts because this "error" could damage my credit.
My wife reminded that she had received an email from the GAP store with a receipt the day we went to the store but she did not open it because we had the receipt I got at the store, but when all of this happened I asked my wife to search for the email so she found the receipt that had been sent to her email address and also found the receipt that we got in the store and still had because she fortunately kept it in her wallet. We realized they were different quantities, the receipt that was sent to her email was $ 95.03 USD with 10 items the employee number is 2213362, and the purchase time was at 2:09 pm while the purchase time of the receipt I got at the store was at 2:06 pm the same day and had 9 items.

Realizing this "error" I proceeded to call the phone number of corporate GAP because they were charging us a card penalty (even without being activated).
I called from Mexico City to the corporate customer service number 614-744-3907 and they told me that I actually had a charge because I had made a purchase with my GAP card so I asked the operator how that could be possible if I didn’t even activate the card and that the only time I went to the store I paid in cash, besides that neither of both receipts I had ( from the store and email) were the same and there was a difference of 3 minutes of time from one receipt to the other and 10 articles more. The operator told me that apparently in the GAP store they had charged the total to my credit card (even though I had not yet received it) and they had also added other items, but the operator told me she would put my case in dispute and would take 2 months to give me the resolution but I would run the risk of getting my credit damaged, and she recommended me to go to the store to try to solve this problem with the manager so I didn’t have to worry about this problem for 2 months.
As I am in Mexico City, I asked my father to go to the store, l emailed him the two receipts, I scanned the one I got in the store and I forwarded the one my wife got to her email.
My father went to the Baby Gap store in McAllen Tx. with the two bills and gave the manager Dee Silva, my credit card number and my Social Security number to verify this "mistake", she immediately accepted that there was a mistake, and would talk to the "under manager" or "Assistant Manager" “Roberto” to see what happened and give us a solution to this "misunderstanding" of what my father demanded a quick solution because this could damage my credit and there would be serious problems so Manager Dee Silva promised a quick fix.

The next day Manager Dee Silva communicated with my father it was Wednesday September 6, 2011 and asked my father to go to the store at 5 pm because they saw that indeed in the month of July they had a credit balance of $ 80 USD in the store and they did not know where that money came from and coincided or was very similar in the amount I had paid in cash $ 77.84 USD and for now that money would be returned to my father to pay part of what we were being charged and that the receipt my wife received to her email would be resolved in the coming days. My father closed the business early to charge the $ 77.84 USD that the manager Dee Silva agreed to pay at 5 pm but all of the sudden Manager Dee Silva INCREDIBLY recanted and refused to return the money claiming that I had not paid any cash and that she saw in the closed circuit camera when we walked out of the store with 2 bags (so what??!! I had paid for it!!!), my father got very angry and told the Manager Dee Smith to show him the video when I am paying and when I’m with the cashier at what she answered that the store only had a camera in the entrance and not where the cashier was (which is absurd and a lie) from what I know all stores have at least one camera directed towards the cashier.
My father said it was absurd that at 2:06 pm I bought 9 items, and 3 minutes later at 2:09 pm I came back with 10 pieces in such a short time ( the only way to choose clothes that fast is choosing randomly and without checking sizes) in addition to that there was a lady behind me and other people waiting in line and they were all taking advantage of the 40% discount. My father put the Manager Dee Silva “against the wall” as she fell into contradictions and she also changed the version that they did not have any credit balance of $ 80 USD in July (as she had said before) she later said that there was a "missing "$ 80 USD, which my father questioned and crossed her out as a liar, she was so nervous that she asked my father to leave or else she would call the police.
Overall we were forced to pay (again) but now the total was $ 172.87 USD as the monthly charges were removed because this case was in dispute. So the total I paid was of 172.87 + the total I paid at the store for $ 77.84 USD in cash which total was of: $ 250.71 for the 9 items we bought at the store. I decided to pay so my credit wouldn’t be damaged so I called the corporate and they told me that unfortunately as I am accepting to pay I am “accepting” I had a debt with the company, but the reality is that I have an impeccable credit and I want it to remain that way.
It also gave me a lot of impotence when customer service told me that everything had to be written and sent by mail, and you cannot solve anything by phone, and I feel helpless to see how the manager Dee Silva covers up her employees robberies , as she refused and became very nervous when my father demanded to see the video to the point of wanting to call the police.

Remember what a headache you can get by getting a credit card from any of these stores GAP, Banana Republic, Piperlime , Old Navy, Athleta, which are from the same corporate, and don’t make the mistake I made in not reading comments and reviews on internet before I asked for the GAP credit card of people who ran with a similar experience that I did.

"rewards points fiasco"
I returned an item that was mostly paid for with rewards points. I contacted customer service a week later to make sure the rewards points would be returned to my card. They assured me they would. Four months later I called customer service and tell them the points still hadn't posted. The first line customer rep didn't know what he was doing. Eventually told me he'd submit a request for the rewards department to research the problem and I'd hear from them in two months. I asked to speak to a supervisor - her attitude was basically "tough luck, you'll have to wait two months."

Awful customer service.

To everyone who is complaining about not receiving a bill & your account going to collections. Seriously? Not once did you think to call GAP and ask where your bill was? It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY people! Grow up!

"WORST EXPERIENCE."
WORST customer service, WORST Member's desks, WORST operators, WORST category ultimately WORST CREDIT CARD.
If you get a chance, don't get this card. If you have a chance get this card canceled. I did not used it once and had late fees of $300 and total invoice of $350. I was never aware of this credit card, they do not communicate and charge late fees for nothing.

Most attractive feature: DO not get it, nothing is good.

"Great Card Terrible Customer Service!"
Customer service was a real pain! They are over-seas and i could not understand a word the first six i talked to said. I had to keep calling until i could understand what they were saying, finally i had to ask to speak to a manager to understand my billing issues. It was a real pain, but hopefully i can keep the card without having to deal with the customer service.

"Too much hustle !!!"
Whatever they have good gets offset with bad website, which has never worked - technical problems, and helpless customer service which couldn't access information because of technical problems again.

I'd been charged late payment fee, though I couldn't pay through website, neither by phone for above mentioned reasons. Couldn't retrieve my password, and alerts have never worked. Clerk asked to call me again because he couldn't access database.

I'd lost a lot of time with this card over three month Id been using it.

"Customer Service lack of continuity of services/ unable to solve problems"
I applied and used the Gap Card for the rewards. The rewards are good and I was pretty happy with the card until 3 months ago when they refunded the credit balance I carried on the account. I didn't received the credit refund check and I called and they sent another one. However, ever since then they have been asking me to repay the refund check I didn't receive in the amount of $120. I have already called the call center 5 times over the past 2 and half months trying to resolve the issue. Each time I had to spend more than 30 minutes going over the payments and debits on the account with the account manager. After 30 minutes, the account manager finally understands the problem, they will tell me that they need to research the issue and will call me back. Until today, my account still carries a balance of $120 and I just call them again today trying to resolve the issue.

I am just abhorred by the imcompetence of the customer service at Gap (or really it is GE Money Bank, the card issuer) and how helpless consumers are against these types of big companies - what can you do if they insist that you have an account balance. I have been so agitated by this experience that everytime when I see the GAP sign I feel that my temper is rising. I used to be a loyal customer that purchase all my kids' clothes from Gap. If you ask me - the rewards definitely do not worth all the problems I have to go through and I am still going through.

"balance decreased because "bad economy""
Only used the card once a year for kids school clothes, haven't used it since 2007, went to use it in 2009, available credit went from $500 to $100, I called to ask why they said "because the economy is bad, it's not because you did anything wrong. If you want to increase available all in 3 months." That makes to sense! Do they know the economy will be better in 3 months and my balance will be increased?!?!? We were never late and always paid 3x the min due.

I suggest using other cards with 10% cash back instead. 5% is too low anyways!

"Recent changes suspected - first time late in 5 yrs and charged late fee"
Not sure if they've recently changed their billing cycle, but I ALWAYS pay in full. For the first time since 2004 my bank issued the payment 1 day past their due date and they posted a $25 late fee even though paid the bill in full. They did reverse it because I called to complain. HOWEVER, they then charged a finance fee - which I also called to have removed. I may keep the card for the coupons but I'm not going to use it anymore - too much hassle!!
