"Customer Service lack of continuity of services/ unable to solve problems"
I applied and used the Gap Card for the rewards. The rewards are good and I was pretty happy with the card until 3 months ago when they refunded the credit balance I carried on the account. I didn't received the credit refund check and I called and they sent another one. However, ever since then they have been asking me to repay the refund check I didn't receive in the amount of $120. I have already called the call center 5 times over the past 2 and half months trying to resolve the issue. Each time I had to spend more than 30 minutes going over the payments and debits on the account with the account manager. After 30 minutes, the account manager finally understands the problem, they will tell me that they need to research the issue and will call me back. Until today, my account still carries a balance of $120 and I just call them again today trying to resolve the issue.

I am just abhorred by the imcompetence of the customer service at Gap (or really it is GE Money Bank, the card issuer) and how helpless consumers are against these types of big companies - what can you do if they insist that you have an account balance. I have been so agitated by this experience that everytime when I see the GAP sign I feel that my temper is rising. I used to be a loyal customer that purchase all my kids' clothes from Gap. If you ask me - the rewards definitely do not worth all the problems I have to go through and I am still going through.

"balance decreased because "bad economy""
Only used the card once a year for kids school clothes, haven't used it since 2007, went to use it in 2009, available credit went from $500 to $100, I called to ask why they said "because the economy is bad, it's not because you did anything wrong. If you want to increase available all in 3 months." That makes to sense! Do they know the economy will be better in 3 months and my balance will be increased?!?!? We were never late and always paid 3x the min due.

I suggest using other cards with 10% cash back instead. 5% is too low anyways!

"Recent changes suspected - first time late in 5 yrs and charged late fee"
Not sure if they've recently changed their billing cycle, but I ALWAYS pay in full. For the first time since 2004 my bank issued the payment 1 day past their due date and they posted a $25 late fee even though paid the bill in full. They did reverse it because I called to complain. HOWEVER, they then charged a finance fee - which I also called to have removed. I may keep the card for the coupons but I'm not going to use it anymore - too much hassle!!

"Worst Experience Ever!!!"
We had a GAP card for the rewards, and it was fine until the company, without our permission, switched us to online only statements. They also began sending our statements to an unknown email address that was not ours. Since we weren''t getting statements, we didn''t realize we had a $20 fee remaining on the card. We finally called and discovered the issue, and demanded that they resume sending us paper statements in the mail. Two months went by, still no statement. We continued to call each month to demand paper statements, but after 6 months they were still unable to do so. On top of that, they continued to charge late payment fees on our card despite the fact that we had yet to receive a single bill! We finally called and paid the full balance off and canceled the card. One month later, we get an email about late fees. A call to customer service shows that although they canceled the card, they since then added late fees on top of late fees and were reporting the late fees against our credit. We''re still trying to deal with this today, remove these mysterious fees (despite the fact that we haven''t shopped at GAP in more than 6 months). Still haven''t figured out how to resolve everything. PLEASE avoid this card.
 
Most attractive feature: None! Terrible! Beware of this card.
Least attractive feature: Charged late fees on no payments, unable to cancel card.

"WAS a GOOD Customer for over 5 years, and they kept lowering limit"
I have NEVER had any problems with this card. I have always paid my bill on time, and payed more than the min, IF there was a balance... However since August my limit has gone from $950.00 to $150.00 (Feb 2009), even though I have been a good customer. The reason my limit has gone down is due to my credit report.. but oddly enough this is the ONLY card doing such a thing to me. I checked my report and things look fine, but apparently this is unacceptable to GE money bank / GAP. So today I closed my account, and I am NEVER shopping at GAP / OLD NAVY / BR or any establishment related to them. No one could give me a clear answer, and I very upset. I have a good job, make payments on time, and try not to keep balances on my card.
Now that I think about it, the rewards were never that great compared to other store credit rewards, so in the end, I am much better.
It's their loss, but I am just upset. What upsets me most is the fact that I feel I was a good reliable customer and each month I would get a letter saying it my limit was decreased, but I have done nothing wrong.
Nice way to treat a long time customer!

"Never Get Gapcard"
Recetly we were told by my bank officer that my wife have some amounts overdue on gapcard.
We were very surprised because we never received any GAPCARD *or* statement about it.
We finally figured out my wife about 1 year ago were confused in gap store when clerk encouraged her to make a gap card to get some discount.
My wife can not speak English. She made the card but she thought she paid by other card because she slided other card than gap card.
Since then we never received any statement and gap card. After I knew the amounts due recently, I called GE company to resolved the issue.
They keep saying they sent us the gap card and statement. It is a lie due to following reasons.
We recently moved to new place and I told them my new address and phone number. They couldn''t tell me my previous address they were supposed to send the card and statement.
Secondly they never called us before I initiated calling and let them know my phone number.
I checked web site about gap card. I was surprised to see many cases exactly same to me about the gap card.

"i love it!"
You earn 5% back on every dollar you spend at Gap, Banana, and Old Navy - $200 charged equals a $10 Rewards coupon! (most credit cards offer 1-3%)Not to mention that multiple times a year they have DOUBLE and TRIPLE rewards points on your purchases! Honestly, this is the best return rate I have ever seen on a credit card.

Every negative comment I have read is not specific to the Gap Card - these people just don''''t seem to know how to handle a credit card, period. Only legit complaint is not being able to pay in the store, but honestly, why would you want to? I pay EVERYTHING online - car payments, car insurance, student loans, credit cards, etc. It''''s so much easier!

If you are a responsible person who has no problems with any current credit cards, you will love this card!

"Take some responsibility"
I find it funny how everyone complains about late fee''s and ruined credit histories. If you don''t pay your bill on time *or* your "forget" to update your address then you''re obviously not mature enough to have a credit card in the first place! Geez grow up and take some responsibility.

"Great card"
I''''ve had nothing but positive experiences using this card - coupons all the time. I only use it at GAP, although it can be used other places. It does have a high interest rate, so I only buy what I can afford to pay off.

As for payment, I really don''''t see how paying in person would be easier than paying on-line. Don''''t know how? It''''s easy. Go to the GAP website. At the bottom, click on "Gap Card". Takes you to the website - in the middle you can choose either to "get a card" **or** "got a card" - choose the latter and it takes you to the website where you register your card, then pay. Alternatively, if your bank does online bill pay (most do now) you can pay that way too. It''''s that easy folks.

"My Favorite Card"
I love my Gap Silver card! The benefits are amazing. I get free shipping on every purchase I make online from Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic/Piperlime. There are 30% off everything online offers a few times a year and 5% reward certificates are great. I have had my card for about 2 years now and never had any problems whatsoever.
