"Household bank cc staty clear"
I have had the household bank cc for two years now ....they continuosly tell me about my excellent pay history yet I applied (for the first time) for a credit line increase and was denied. That erked me, but there is something that gets me so mad. If I wasn't paying my bill they would be all over me, yet I have a credit line of 300 dollars and made a payment of 525.00 for airline tickets purchase. So at this point I have paid well over my balance. I notice that the check has cleared and the money has been removed from my checkin account. After a week I call to see why I still have no credit to my household bank card. I am told repeatidly that there is a security hold on the payment to varify the payment. They had the payment ...how much more varification do you need. Needless to say this caused me to have to post pone my flight...costing me more money!!! I have been with them two years ...never late never any returned checks....this company offers no customer reward and has really bad customer service and charges you nearly 70 dollars per year to deal with it. I am done with these people ....be ware this company is a crock!

"interest rate"
My card expired in June and in July, they still charged me an annual fee. I had been late once, which skyrocketed the interest rate to 29.99%! I called them and asked why I was charged a fee for an expired card. Of course, their no-English speaking customer service rep couldn't give me a reasonable response. I closed the account in early August and the web page showed I had no credit available, even though I had a balance. I attributed this to the fact that I had closed the account. Now that I have paid the balance off, my original credit limit stands and they are telling me that my account is closed, however, PENDING further fees and transactions, remains open. This is the worst credit card in the world. My credit has improved and I have since gone on to better cards but I would not recommend this card to anyone!

"BREACH OF SECURITY"
According to HSBC earlier in the year there was a breach of security in their system and they cancelled my cc and issued me another one. I never received a letter or a new card. The only way I found out the card had been cancelled is when I went to sign on to AOL (linked with my HSBC card for payment)and couldn't sign on for non-payment. Immediately I called HSBC and that's when I was told about the cancelled account and new card. I was a month late on my payment because when they cancelled my existing account it also cancelled my email reminders for payment so I was then late on my payment so they cancelled my new account for non-payment - never called to discuss the situation with me first. I was told if I made my payment right then, I could call back in 24 hours and have my account re-instated. I did that. When I called them, I was told I would have to re-apply. I blew a gasket. I had been a customer for over 20 years and because they had a breach of security in their system my credit report was going to show they cancelled me for nonpayment. Then I spoke to a manager and he said they would reinstate the account and that I would receive a new card within 7-10 days. In 7-10 days I received a letter saying they I would have to re-apply for an account. I decided if a business is going to operate this way with their long time customers I really don't want to be a customer. Now I have to mail my payments in because they charge you $15 to pay it over the phone and I can't pay it online because I don't have an account anymore. Guess what? The 1st mailed payment didn't arrive in time and they started calling my house (funny they call then) and they call every 2 hours. Now I just have to work on getting them paid off and never considering them again.

"Join the club Gracie"
I only rated a star because the site wouldn't let me not give it a star.
I posted on this card on ripoff report. I know that when you're late, you pay for it. Go over limit, pay for it. I fully expected the card to be stringent about these matters but like you Gracie, the out of the blue rate-jacking got me.
Back in March of this year, I had my first experience with HEB trying to rate-jack me as from my previous post. Once I paid the card off, intending to close it with the next annual fee, I was surprised by the interest rate being reduced to normal and a surprise limit increase.
Did I fall for it? Partially. I'd transferred my balance to a 0 percent WaMu card and didn't want to show high utilization so I figured I'd leave the household open and make small purchases and pay them off before the due date. Sine March of 06 each statement has shown a 0 bal 0 due. This past month, I decided to put my son's books on the HHB card, it was only about 200.00 with a 1500.00 limit and had every intention of paying it off before interest accrued. Was I surprised that with my first statement that showed an actual balance I scroll down to the bottom of the page and see 27.99% interest. Not even any notification this time.
Needless to say, I immediately went on-line, scheduled a payment and promptly called to tell HHB what they could do with their card. I took it even further and called HSBC corporate just because I could.
I think that they probably thought I would let SOME sort of balance sit there since this was the first statement reporting a balance. I let the rep know that they could jack it to 590% if they would like because 50% of nothing is nothing and I was done contributing to HHBs bottom line, even if it was only through interchange fees.
This after almost fours years of every payment being on time, never an over-limit (though close a couple of times) and never a minimum payment.
RUN don't WALK away from any offers you get from this company. |

Most attractive feature: Good for reestablishing short term run in the long term
Least attractive feature: To many but rate-jacking is prime as well as no benefits for great history

"Household Bank Ripoff"
I've had a couple of Household bank credit cards for over a year now and never been late on a payment. I've always paid at least the minimum. I got a letter in the mail saying the interest was increasing to highway robbery rates of 27.74%. I called and was advised the new rate applied to the card that I had 0% interest on until February 2007 and the rate wouldn't increase til then. Don't bother to call their customer service. The rate applied to my other card and it increased from about 14% to the 27.74% interest the following month. It doubled my finance charge. Calling them did no good. I read some of the previous views on this card below that are positive with dismay. Please, heed my warning. Do not ever get their credit card. They will try and rob you blind.

"Interest Rate Hikes"
I also recieved the same letter about my interest rate going up.when i recived the letter i immediately called customer service (save yourself the trouble) and they said it would take 10 days or less to get the specific reason(s) why, it took 3 weeks and a phone call every week in between to get it.
I was given the exact reason she was given. It appears that HHB is concerned about making more money versus keeping customers.
Be careful cause you will eventually get one of those letters, save yourself the trouble and just dont get the card |

"Don't get comfortable with This card"
I've had my HHB Mastercard for several years. Never been late, never over the limit. No bad credit with anyone else since I've had the card. Was I shocked and amazed when I recently received a letter from them saying that based on my credit report, the same one they had been using to give me limit increases every four months for the past three years, my interest rate was going up to 28%.
I was in such a panic that I PAID for a credit report online. Nothing other than what they already knew about was reporting. As a matter of fact for the past three years I have gotten three other cards that are all reporting "paid as agreed" with no late or over limit activity.
Did they just make sure that the credit limit was high enough so that when they dropped that little bomb I would be unable to pay it off in full? This plus the ridiculous annual fee is definitely a rip off!!! |

"Great Credit Rebuilder"
When you have "bad" credit you don't have many choices in credit cards to help rebuild it. This card has been wonderful. It's not meant to have purchases of $1000 put on it and then pay only the minimum balance when the statement comes in. If you do that you'll never get any card paid off, I don't care if it's this card or the greatest credit card in the world. That's what the banks that distribute these cards want you to do. That's why there is an interest rate, so they can make a lot of money off of you. I have always paid the minimum balance plus some on this card and always paid way before the due date and I have never had a problem. When my credit has built up high enough that I will be able to get another card without the fees, I will. But until that time, this is the card for me.

"Re-establish credit"
I would recommend household bank to anyone looking to re-establish credit. They were the first company that was willing to extend credit to me after my divorce and bankruptcy. They are a fair company, they do not have any hidden fees, and they do grant credit line increases periodically based on your payment history. They are a great card to have!
