Refused to Help With Fraudulent Charges
06/22/2012
I called Customer Service because I noticed a fradaulent charge that was listed as "pending." They told me that nothing could be done until the charge posted to my account and that I would have to call back to report the charge as fraudulant. I asked if they could keep the charge from hitting my account or if they could keep an eye on it for me and they said no. I cancelled my card and they did not seem to care. I have been a cardholder with them for 5 years.

Worst credit card ever. Do NOT accept
06/26/2010
Customer service is horrible. They would put holds on my card so that I would have to call them and they could try to sell me something. This happened monthly. Payments to the card take 2 weeks to take effect making the card completely useless.
Most Attractive Feature: There are none

I closed my account but accidentally overpaid the balance. Instead of immediately receiving a refund for the overpaid money, I had to call them two months later to ask for it. They explained that I had to mail in (even though this is the 21st century, they wouldn't let me fax or email) a copy of my driver's license, two utility bills and other documents that could "verify" who I was. When I explained that I have my card account number, I gave them my first, last and middle name, my social security number and verified my address, apparently, that wasn't good enough for them. When I also explained I didn't get utility bills, and in fact, I don't get any type of paper bills, everything is sent via email, they said I had to send in my vehicle registration and find government document that would have my address and name. Then I would supposedly rec'd a phone call in 14 days to tell me if my documents matched up. This is absurd considering I have lived at the same address for some time now, not to mention I have always paid my bill on time and included my address on it. STAY AWAY from this CARD!

Great, great, then HORRIBLE

Just like the other guy here, I make all my payments on time, and because of 1 error on my credit report that was completely unrelated (and was even fixed by the time I recieved the letter in the mail!) that my interest rate was going from 12.9% to over 27%!!! That is absolutely rediculous, and nobody there will let you dispute it or anything (happened with another card I have as well, and I was able to successfully dispute it with them)
So account closed! Sucks though cause I actually had a decent rate (12.9 APR) but no way in hell am I going to pay 27% APR
Most Attractive Feature: Low rate + 1yr 0apr balance transfer
Least Attractive Feature: Doubling the interest rate, even though every payment was always made ontime

I would have to say that I was simply "floored" when I recieved my offer by mail a few weeks ago. I had actually thrown it in the trash, and something told me to "get it out" just in case I was making a mistake. Not only was Household Bank included in my bankruptcy and I left owing them a balance, but I haven't had a credit card (one that works) in over 9 years!!! So when I sat at my computer and plugged in the info on the acceptance form.. I squirmed because I just knew it was going to say DECLINED!!!
To my surprise it said I was a approved and for $300.00 to start off with. Not only was I elated, but also intrigued. This credit card opened up the door for other cards that I now have and I am using these to re-establish my credit. Since applying for and recieivng this card, I know have a total of 5 credit cards, and I really think that Household played a very big part in this.
I plan on applying for a home loan in the next 12-18 months and I really hope my Household account will help to improve my FICO score and establish me as a "low" risk when it comes to extending credit.
I am VERY happy with this card, APR is pretty good as well..and their on-line services are Grade A!!!!
I highly recommend this card to any one looking to re-establish their credit!

UNIVERSAL DEFAULT ALERT
03/05/2007
i have two credit cards, one through citibank, and one through household bank. i obtained the household bank card about a year ago to re-establish credit after my identity was compromised by a former lover.
same scenario:
1. i pay ALL of my bills on time.
2. card has a high debt utilization, but the limit was only $400, resulting in $400 dollars in charges monthly but 50%-75% repaid in the space of a month.
3. NO problems, NOT ONE.
4. MULTIPLE payments monthly, always on time, no bounced checks
5. for no reason, household bank moved the interest from 16.4% to 29.9%
6. apparently something was found on my credit report causing this to happen.
BAD NEWS!! BAD NEWS!! BAD NEWS!!
end of story is this: i posted a payment online, which paid the card down to zero balance, i got the supervisor on the phone and told him "you have two options. either move my interest rate back to an acceptable level, or i close this account. RIGHT NOW."
i closed it.
now on the other hand, i called citibank and told them what happened and i asked them if they would be doing the same thing and they LOWERED my interest rate three whole points!!!

New to the Card

I received an offer from Household to open a Platinum Mastercard. The offer states 0% for 24 months, then a 5.9% premium fixed APR thereafter. I signed up on their site for the account, and got the cards today. It is the lowest limit card I currently have. They only offered the limit of 10,000 but stated when I called to activate it that they will review the account every six months and increase the limit. The only reason for taking another credit card is for the 0%. No real complains on it yet, since I am a new cardmember.

I love this card! They sent me an invite to join and I did even though I had alot of bills unpaid and just lost my job. They gave me a 400.00 credit limit to start! I charged over 400 in my first week and got an over the limit charge. Well..I did not think that was fair! SO I didnt pay this bill either. The nice people there started calling everyday, it was so nice of them to remind me of the payment was due! They just recently raised my credit limit 100.00 but since I am behind in the payments I dont think I can use it

I applied for this card early this year becuase it offered 0%APR for 6 billing cycles. As soons as my application was approved, I immediately transfered my balanced to this card on 1-30-02 and 2-7-02. When I received the 6th monthly statement, I was surprised to learn this card charged me for 13.9% APR already. I called to question their practice, the agent said that the cycle started when my application was approved. I submitted application on 1-2-02, and got the approval letter on 1-28-02. The agent said the the bank kept the application record showing application and approval dates. I expected to receeive a copy from the bank as he promised. But I got a letter today from this bank, it said it's unable to provide the document. Although I immediately paid off the balance and closed the account, it costed me $$ (13.9% APR) for two billing cycles. I sincerely hope people will not fall into that trap like I did.

the worst credit card company I have ever dealt with
07/11/2002
Basically, I was late by two days on one payment and was berated by their customer service. I was told to send another $162.00 by Friday (from that Monday)to ensure my "good" credit not be effected. I was once an "excellent" credit, until I was late with my payment of thirty something dollars with this company. They were rude, and even told me if I sent the full balance I could not close my account with them unless I sent in a copy of my social security card, driver's license, and two utility bills.
I have never dealt with such utter nonsense with any credit card company or lender in my life(like household bank)!

Reporting inaccurate information
06/04/2002
I had a credit card in 1991 with a company in Texas that was taken over by Household Bank. My credit is perfect except for Household bank reporting a payment 30 days late. This was put on my credit report in 1992 and should have been taken off in 1999. It somehow is scheduled to come off in 2003 (eleven years later.

I just go off the phone with finance and this is how they handle things. I spent $4,600.00 (Credit) about 5 months ago and about 1 month later I made a $3,000 dollar payment. 1 month later my job cut back hours and was late on 2 payments. I was told that when the account was brought back up to date that EVERYTHING would go back to the way it was (EVERYTHING). Now I have been told I have gone from a $4,600 credit limit the $1,200. NOW this whole time finance has had our account screwed up, charging us for something they where suppose to take off. All I wanted was for them to put my limit back to what it was like they told me they where going to do. Now I am told that they have the right to change there mind and reduce it at any time. I think is sucks when they can screw up my account, make promises to me to get me to get the account back up to date and then not keep their promise, and then I am told basically that I can’t do anything about it, and that they can do what ever they want. I will pay off my account, close the account, and NEVER buy a thing with anyone that uses then to handle financing (Best Buy, Rooms To Go).

HOUSEHOLD BANK ARE LIARS
01/29/2002
We completed a credit card offer from Household Bank offering us 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers through August 2002. We were told the transfer checks for the 0% offer would come with our welcome package. Well once we received the checks we then turned around and used them. We moved a $5,000.00 balance from a 2.9% credit card to the new 0% card. Well today we received our first statement from Household Bank and our statement reflected almost $33.00 of interest. The balance transfer had been done @ 9.9% APR. I placed a call to Household Bank and they told me that the checks stated that they were a 9.9% interest rate. I told them that they were the 0% checks sent to us in the welcome package and that nowhere on the checks or the letter that came with the checks was there a reference to 9.9% APR. After a heated discussion I informed them that I was going to move the $5,000.00 to another credit card because I did not do business with people who screw their customers. I asked that the interest be waived since they did not carry through with their promotion and they refused. So I told them they would be getting a check for the $5,000.00 but that they would just have to eat the $33.00 in interest. He did not like that to well and he threatened me with tarnishing our credit history. First of all they legally have no proof to stand on because they cannot produce to me where those checks stated 9.9% APR and they refuse to correct it even though I read them the letter that came with our 0% APR checks. I just wanted to warn as many people as possible to not use Household Bank. Their philosophy is to screw as many customers as possible.

Household Bank
04/10/2000
I originally had a US West MasterCard until they discontinued servicing the card in May 1999 and it was
converted to a Household Bank card. I received one billing in June 1999 from Household Bank and
then nothing until mid-September when I received my JULY statement on 9/15/99 and the following day
(9/16/99) I received the August statement, and since I was then two months past due, they jacked up the rate
from 13.45% to a whopping 23.99%. Household Bank does not have a customer service unit as far as
I am concerned. I paid the card off and closed the account. I wouldn't do business with them if they
were the only credit card available.
