"Crooks!!!!!"
You should stay away from all credit cards, especially retail credit cards. But of all of the cards out there, you should avoid Macy's credit card like the plague. These people are theives who only care about money and don't give two shi*s about the customers. The apr on this card is 24.24%, which is ridiculous. Up until a year ago my poor mother was being crushed by this credit card. She had interest charges of over $350/month and couldn't figure out how to pay off this credit card. I had to step in to help her and almost a year later we are out of this demon like credit card trap. They won't lower your interest even if you're a 10+ year customer who has always paid on time. Not even by 1 percentage point. These people are terrible and people like them are the reason why Americans are being so screwed nowadays and have no money to spend on good and services to get the economy going. All our hard earned money is going to credit cards, mortgages, car loans and student loans. We are a nation of debtors. At least 99% of us are.

"Don't Sign Up!"
Hi,
I just want those people who are reading this to DONT EVER SIGN UP FOR THIS CARD! To start out with I'm a college student who just happened to be shopping for some lingerie at a local Macy's in October 2011. I don't normally shop at Macy's due to them being expensive compared to other chain department stores. I only went to the Macy's because they're the only retailer in my town to carry the specific line of lingerie I was looking for.
As I carried my purchases to the register, this sale associate asked me if I wanted to sign up for a Macy's card to recieve a 15% discount. I asked if it was free and they said yes and that all I had to do was bring my Macy's card and that I'll save money for future transactions. They took my information and said I'm approved even though I don't have any credit history. The sales associate never told me it was a credit card nor explained my legal obligations of signing up. Plus I never owned a credit card before and didn't realize what I just done. I just thought it was just a customer loyalty card that I can just use for discounts. I walked away happily after only paying $25 for a $38 purchase.
Things at Macys only became worse, when I went to the store the second time in December 2011. I handed the sales associate my debit card and Macy's card. I didn't realize what has happened until February 2012 when I got this statement saying I owe Macy's money. I went to the store and they were unable to find my receipt because I had lost mine and they said that the person who made my transaction might've had charged my balance to to the Macy's card instead of my debit card. I found out that they're right as I checked my bank statement. I was very angry and I called the customer service and I said I wanted to cancel my card and she convinced me not to and said that I can just use my card for discounts as I originally intended to. She just said to go pay off my December balance and that I'll be ok. Unfortuntely I missed the cycle date due to being in the hospital that week. They said I owe $20.35. I went to the store 1 day after the cycle ended. I paid in cash and they gave me receipt. They said I don't owe anything.
Macy's has struck disaster again, when I went to visit my family on 4-27-12. They had the nerve to call the following Saturday morning at 8 am saying I owe them money! I don't remember giving them my parents number, but my mom said they tried calling before but I never knew about it. The lady on the line has a bad accent and was hard to understand. She said she's going to transfer my call but the phone disconnected.
Today 4-29-12, I found my Macy's receipt that said I paid them off back in February for December's transaction and my current Macy's bill. I took both papers to the store. I talked to manager and he looked up my account but only to find out that Macy's is now trying to charge me $96 for late fees! I talked to customer service on the phone and they said that it's my fault and that I'm responsible all because I'm a day late of paying off my balance and that it was my fault that I didn't know I signed up for a credit card. She was very curt and she had nerve to address me as young lady! I finally talked to the supervisor and they said they'll waive all my fees if I make my future payments on time for a year. I told them I want to cancel my card and they said ok.
I plan on saving my receipt in case they do try to stir trouble again but now I know I learned my lesson the hard way.
Bottom line: it's not worth signing up for just to get the discount! |

"BEWARE OF THIS CARD!!! NOT WORTH IT!"
On October 15, 2011 I purchased $79 in clothing at a Macy’s store. I was asked if I’d like to get cash back by opening a Macys charge card (American Express) using it for my purchases. I agreed, and signed up for the card. Eight days later, before the ending of the billing cycle, I used my checking account to electronically pay my Macys bill in full. I thought that all was well. I made no further purchases with the card.
On January 16, 2012, out of curiosity, I went online to check my Macys account. It showed a balance due in an amount of over $300. I thought that, perhaps, someone had fraudulently used my card. I called Macys customer service. I was told that my card actually has two account numbers; one for purchases made at a Macys, and the other for purchases made outside of Macys. I was told that, while my purchase was at a Macys, my payment was applied to the account for non-Macys purchases. Therefore, that account had been accruing late penalties and interest charges. The representative advised that he would remove the late penalties and charges (and advised that I then had a credit balance of $11). Again, I thought that all was well. WRONG.
Several days later, I received, in the mail, a letter from a collections agency, demanding that I pay a Macys bill of $300+. I called the collection agency, and explained what the Macys representative had told me. The representative advised that they would note their files. I asked if a negative report had been sent to the credit reporting agencies. She said that it had. I had to demand that they reverse the negative report, and, after speaking to a supervisor, the representative said that the report would be reversed, and that it would take up to 30 days for the credit reporting agencies’ records to reflect that. Several days later, I received in the mail a letter confirming that Macys had sent a request to the “national credit reporting agencies” to remove the negative report. Again, I thought that all was well. WRONG.
Last week, I received in the mail an offer to apply for a Mastercard account. As I plan to travel to Italy, and my only credit card, an American Express card, would not be accepted by most (European) vendors, I was glad to be able to have a credit card that, if I should need it, would be accepted. So I applied. I was rejected, and was told “the reason for the rejection will be mailed to you.”
So, two days ago, I checked my credit report. It shows “negative information,” from, you guessed it, MACYS. (I have never been late or missed any payments in my 60 years; I felt very shocked and distressed.)
Today, I called Macys customer service. They said their records do not show the letter they sent to me in January (advising that the negative report would be removed). At first, I was given the same ol’ line: “we will send a letter to the national credit agencies within the next 7-10 days, and then it will take up to 30 days for them to remove the negative report. I asked to speak to a supervisor who said the same thing. I got quite upset with her and demanded that someone personally take care of it NOW, that I have no confidence that “a letter” would be send, that they have damaged my excellent credit history, and that they owe it to me to closely and personally take care correcting all of their mistakes. The supervisor assured me that, this time, it will be taken care of. NOT going to think that all is well until I again check my credit report, in 30 days, and see that, finally, all is well. Keeping my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.
If all is not well, I am going to have my attorney contact them. I will also contact Michael Finney, a consumer reporter for ABC News, Channel 7, in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have him investigate.

"Macy's Credit Card NOT WORTH THE DISCOUNT!!!"
This is the worst credit card I have ever used! They have useless online features and no safeguards whatsoever for financially wise customers like me. I applied for paperless statements and automatic bill payment online and it caused me a negative on my credit score. Here's what happened: I had a $31 balance 2 months ago and instead of being paid automatically, it became past due. I never received any statements in the mail nor any notifications via email that I have statements ready online. It seems that they want customers to incur exorbitant fees. I just got a call 2 months later that I have been reported to the Credit Bureau and that my bill is up to $95. I've never had a negative on my credit score until now, so I panicked and paid it over the phone. They have a $15 pay by phone fee that I had to pay. Then, when I realized I was also paying a bunch of late fees, I called them again. They cancelled the late fees for another $5 fee. Plus they had me pay $4 more than what I originally owe ($35 instead of $31). I got my fees refunded but I paid them $5 + $4 + $15 = $24 to do it. USELESS!!!

"Cancelling my card"
Just got hit with the $2 minimum interest fee this month after paying off my balance in full last month. In December, my mailed payment was not received by due date (despite being mailed two weeks prior) and despite this being the first late payment ever, I got a harassing phone call one week after due date, reprimanding me for not paying and demanding I pay by phone. After argument, they did drop the late charge. When I first opened my card a few years ago to buy a mattress on the 30-60-90 plan, my payment was applied to the regular plan, not the 30-60-90 plan, even though there was NO BALANCE on the regular plan -- which meant I had a huge credit sitting in regular plan and showed no payment on the plan I had a balance on! RIDICULOUS and a bout of phone calls to get them to switch the payment where it should have gone. Better check those statements, esp if you have 30-60-90 balance! Then there are the continual coupons and cards that basically you can't use on anything, tons of them cluttering the mailbox. The $2 interest charge is the last straw; I'm cancelling the card.

"STAY CLEAR OF MACY'S"
The selections at the store are pitiful, on-line is much better. The late fees are outrageous. Had a 1K limit, paid off for 6 months, went to use at X-mas, declined. Macy's had decreased my limit to $200 b/cuz I purchased a home.

"Online payments"
Paying this bill online is sometimes next to impossible. When you think you have finished - there is usually 1 more entry. the website looks loke you have paid but you have not. Have to keep double checking to make sure it has gone through.
Customer service is rude and unhelpful. After my bill is paid I will NEVER use it again.Out of all the department store credit cards - this is by far the worse one. |

"Customer Service is awful"
As has been state in just about every post, customer service is awful. Missed 2 payments on a $100 balance and when I paid it off 2 months later it had ballooned to $300. I'll own the fact that I should have paid this on time however I couldn't access my account information online. Talking to customer service just made me even more irritated. The woman I spoke to was rude, unhelpful, and claimed that our conversation was the first time she had heard of this issue I described. I plan on telling everyone I know to stay away from Macy's.
