"No Free night upon renewal. "
I have had the card since July 2007 and paid the first year renewal fee in anticipation of receiving the e certificate for one free night. After checking my account for over 3 months I called Chase and was informed my card the signature card did not have that privledge. I was informed I need to upgrade to the Premier level and pay the $65.00 renewal fee. I am cancelling my card.

"False advertisement"
After many calls to obtain our free night as promised, we never recieved anything. Customer service was always indifferent. We used this card regularly, and LIKED staying at Marriott hotels. We have canceled with Marriott, and it looks like other hotels will be getting our business now since there seems to be better options out there as far as rewards go and better customer service.

"Advertised this card as having no annual fee for the first year!!"
When I applied for this card, the advertisement stated that there was no Annual Fee! Got the first bill, and there was a $65 annual fee. Called their version of "customer service", and they said that they weren't aware of of this, and they couldn't do anything, except cancel the account. I promptly said go ahead and cancel the account. I will also be cancelling my banking relationship with Chase. It seems like what they advertise is what they should honor. I even had the flyer where it stated that, and would fax it to them...

"Points were misleading"
Customer service was not very well informed. I did not use my card for 3 months and when I did, they had placed a "freeze" on it for security reasons...nice feature for my protection which I appreciated, however I had to talk to 3 different people before the freeze was finally lifted and by then I had to go back and reorder almost everything.
Also...I wanted to use my points for merchandise instead of hotel packages...this feature is not very user friendly and you end of talking to 2 different sets of people. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
On the plus side...they were very polite and made an obvious effort to please me. |

"Change in Benefits on 1/1/06 ... maybe?"
Chase has taken over BankOne and the Marriott Rewards Visa card. Chase sent out a new guide to benefits that cuts the $1,000,000 Travel Accident Insurance down to $100,000 on 1/1/06. A 90% drop in coverage. I tried to find out why and verify that the change is for the Platinum Marriott Rewards card.
No information is included with the letter from Chase. They refer you to the phone number on the back of the Credit Card.
Marriott Rewards does not know what the benefits are for their card.
Chase Visa can only tell you the current benefits not what they are changing to in January (11 days from this writing.)
Visa Enhancement Services said there is currently NO coverage on this card and they are ADDing the $100,000 coverage.
Chase Corporate has no clue what Chase Visa is doing and refer you back to Chase Visa.
Marriott Corporate is "looking into it" and "will get back to me."
I should have given up on this days ago, but you know how sometimes you just want know if the situation is as bad as it seems. Well...if you call to apply for a new Marriott Rewards card (12/21/05), you guessed it, they still quote a $1M Travel and Accident Insurance policy. The right hand does not even know the left hand exists.
Marriott Rewards 800-399-4229
Chase Visa 800-346-5538
Visa Enhancement Services 800-356-8955
JPMorgan Chase 212-270-6000
Marriott Corporate 301-380-3000

"Tricked by Chase the Marriott Visa card manager"
The Marriott Reward Visa offered checks with a 3.99% interest rate "for the life of the loan." Chase made a mistake in processing my check and returned it for which I had to pay "returned check" fees and then offered me 2.9% for their mistake and put the money directly into my checking account. The first statement after taking the loan had a MORE THAN 16% rate for this loan. I've been trying for four months to get this corrected and there is an annotation on my account that I was late for a payment of under $100 between giving me the loan and receiving the first statement which in Marriot Rewards Visa-Chase's eyes voided the 2.9% offer. I've been scammed. It has soured me on Marriott whose hotels I love and especially Chase which has a customer service department in name only. I can't get the same person twice to talk to; I'm not allowed to have a direct dial number to talk to the same person every time I try to follow-up (I realized today that I have mistakenly thought they were trying to correct the error) and I was told they can't call me directly. Chase-Marriott is still sending me 3.99% checks telling me I can borrow up to $25000! Do not take these offers. In my case they can allege that I had a late payment on the account before the low interest loan was processed and that gave them permission to void the offer and charge loan sharking rates.

"False advertising from Chase"
The Marriott Visa card has been taken over by Chase Bank. Although their promotional materials trumpet no annual fee for the first year, I was immediately charged the annual fee upon receiving my card.
Several phone calls and emails have failed to resolve the problem. Chase customer service is completely nonresponsive.

"Great point system but watch interest rate spikes"
I have had this card since 1999. The point system is great for accumulating valuable Marriott points, but pay close attention to any notices you receive re spiking your interest rate. I normally pay the card off every month, but appreciated the average 12% interest rate. That was until Bank One took over my card and automatically spiked my interest rate to 22.9% without any reason. I have A+ perfect credit (840 Fico score) and have a perfect payment history with this card, but obviously that was not good enough. Be aware of sudden unjustifiable interest rate spikes.

"29.5% interest rate is too high"
I have had this card for years and was a loyal Marriott customer. I stayed at Marriott hotels and made sure to use this card. I have used my points to get hotels on several vacations. Friday 2-25-05 I opened my mail and my interest was raised from about 14% to 29.5%. I called immediately to see what happened because I double up on my payments if I have a balance, and pay it off as soon as possible anyway. They said on Dec. 17, 2004 they mailed me a notice stating they were raising the rates. She said I could have cancelled the card and kept the lower rate, or kept the card open and paid the 29.5% rate. Nobody would pay 29.5% and I NEVER received notice. I went on and paid off the account and told them today to cancel the card and I had to talk to a supervisor to get my $30 annual fee reduced. I don't know why they are treating good, loyal credit-worthy customers like this. I figure too many people were staying free with the points so they want to put a stop to it. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I don't want to stay at Marriott anymore. I called Marriott and told them they should get a new affinity card. They said they were not related to the issuer, which went from First USA to Bank One to Chase. While I was on hold with Marriott they played ads for the Marriott Visa Card. Anyway, my association with Marriott Visa has ended, and I will try to find a similar card or use my American Express and find a new hotel chain.

Most attractive feature: Up to interest rate increase to 29.5%-points @ Marriott

"Marriott Visa Card"
I have had a Marriott card for many years. The first time I cashed in my points, I received a week in Maui in a very nice condo including a rental car. By using the card to pay taxes, insurance and business expenses the points accumulate quickly. I recently cashed in most of them for a Nikon camera valued at $1,000. When purchasing a new car recently, the dealer accepted part of the payment on my card, so they are building back up again quickly.

Most attractive feature: The points can be used for vacations, airline tickets and sky mall purchases.
Least attractive feature: If you do not pay your balance in full monthly, it's not for you.
