"Good Card"
My husband and I got this card a couple months ago. It has been great. We only charged 50% then paid 25% of balance online. It posted the next day and didnt charge any interest. My husband FICO score had gone up several points. They havent reported on mine yet. Will post later. Thanks Orchard Bank

"They pay commissions to SPAMMERS"
What else needs to be said? I received SPAM email soliciting applications for Orchard Bank credit cards. HSBC may not send the SPAM but certainly they encourage others to do so by paying commissions to third parties.

Most attractive feature: None
Least attractive feature: Solicits new customers by contracting with senders of SPAM email. GARBAGE.

"The whole Wam Bam!"
I have had my card less then a month now. I wanted to keep up on it so I thought I'd make a eary payment. So I put what cash I had on the card over the pay by phone way. They tell you you shoud get it in 48 or so hours. They charded me almost $13.00 for doing it by phone to start with. Why should I pay to make a payment to them? It was eary and a lot more the the payment would of been. A matter of fact it was half of what my credit limit is. That was a weel or so ago and I show a lower balance but no creit is available yet. I called and was told it's subjected to a hold for 7 to 14 days. Now I have no money to pay the bills I was going to pay with a card that I made a large/early payment thinking it's easier to use the card and not hve to get and send money orders. Boy was I wrong because I'm still with no cash and no credit and bills now that are late. To say more they want to offer a home morgage so I can have money in my pockets. I was scared to say sure in fear it waould be 20 years till I see it. No way. I'm done with this card in less then a month. Please don't go here! Save your time and money.

Most attractive feature: I haven't found one yet

"Don't plan on relying on this card!!"
I opened my Orchard Bank Mastercard last February while I was trying to repair some "spots" on my credit history. I opened an account with 14% interest rate which was better than any other offers I had been getting. Beacuse of this I didn't balk at the annual fee. I never had any problems with them until November. I went to make an online payment 4 days before the due date and an alert at the top of the page informed me that unless I made a "rush" payment I would be charged a late fee...of course, I did and was hit with a 12.95 fee for this "service" when my payment never should have been late in the first place. Then, in December, I received notice that my interest rate will escalate to 27% in February. I pulled my credit reports which show nothing but "Paid ontime, never late" for all my credit and then I called HSBC. No one could tell me why my interest rate was going up. All they could say was they value me as a customer and offered to have the credit department send an explanation thru the mail. By the way, did I mention the # they list is a toll call? Apparently the honeymoon is over...1 year seems to be the limit as far as what I have read here...the card will be paid off & closed this week!!!

"Michelle, Your situation mirrors mine since the takeover"
The same thing has been happening with the Household Bank Standard Master Card and like you, I gave them a choice to lower the rate. They didn't so I also closed the card. I hope enough people take the same action to effectively send a message to these loan sharks.

I was so angry, that even after closing the account I went to the HSBC website and contacted their corporate offices. They could see no reason that my interest rate had been jacked either.

I have since gotten to other cards at 7% variable that are still under 0% intro. Utilization was low across the board.

If you are considering applying for this card, do so only if you have to and look into replacing it before you are a customer for too long. From what I read the longer you are with them, the more likely it is that this will also happen to you.

"Run, don't walk"

I think credit cards that enable people with compromised credit to rebuild their credit history are a necessary evil. As a consumer, I go into the transaction knowing that they are running a business to make money, and that if I had handled my own personal business better, I would not be in the position to need them. That said, this company has taken such a downturn since HSBC took it over.

I have been a customer for 2 years. I have never missed a payment, or been late. Ever. My apr has been steadily rising over the past year, from 17% last August, to 27% this month (September 2006). I called to find out why and at the customer service rep could tell me nothing. When I kept insisting to her that I needed to talk to someone who could give me an answer, she put me on the phone with her boss. Her boss acknowledged that I have been an excellent customer, but that they are raising everyone's apr, and there was nothing she could do for me. I kept pressing her. "Yes", she said, "You have never missed a payment", "Yes", she said, "You have never been late", but "No", she said "there is no way she can lower my apr". As a parting note she said that she hopes I don't close the account because I've been exemplary and she would hate to lose me as a customer. I told her to lower my apr and she was silent. By the way, they also raised my credit limit at the same time they raised my apr. They really are unbelievable. DO NOT GET THIS CARD if you have any other options.

By the way, my credit has improved tremendously (so that wasn't why they raised my apr), and I am closing this account and transferring my balance asap.

"AVOID THIS BANK AT ALL COSTS"
I was the victim of identity theft and opened an Orchard Bank Mastercard in December 2003. While the card was issued with Household, I never had a problem. When HSBC took over, the service went south. I had over paid my balance by accident and it took nearly 3 months to get a refund check issued to me. A few months later when the card was lost, it took HSBC 2 months to even get a replacement card to me. I was so annoyed I closed the account. A few days after I closed it, the replacement card arrived and then when I called to have the account reopened (since the replacement card arrived), I was charged a $25 einstatement fee. The account was reopened as I requested and then the $59 annual billed before my 12 monts was up putting me over the limit which charged me a $30 OCL fee plus an interest rate change. After several emails back and forth to Customer Service and legal action from the State Attorney General's Office, HSBC reversed the $59 annual fee, the $25 reinstatement fee and the $30 OCL fee. THIS COMPANY IS HORRIBLE. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!!! After all of this, my credit report still shows that I went OCL on this acct which is affecting my FICO score and all because of this company's horrible Customer Service.

"continued from april 28th"
Never been late, never been overlimit and I got approved for a better offer on may from capital one accepted the offer and recieved the card. Hsbc hit me with a 29.92 apr. Call them to see what was going on and they said that i have recently oppened a new acc. There is nothing they can do. So I would like to see what happen if i pay late and go over the limit at the same time. I think i get a free gift with purchase. This card is on its way to sender. Thank you for being the best apr rising bank in the world................
