"increased my rate"
as my previous review stated i decided to give them another chance since they sent a really good offer. bad move. they increased my rate to 27.9% for NO REASON. i have never paid them or any other creditor late. I immediately transferred my balance and cancelled the card for good. The rep said a letter went out explaining the rate increase. After giving him a piece of my mind i told them what they could do with their card. Bad business.

"This company loves joke read on!!!"
The only thing that was nice, was the fact the offered me a card when no one would... Nearly three years have passed, paid every month, never miss a payment, hardly carried a balance, but nothing in return, but higher APR. I got this card nearly three years ago, I pay an annual fee of $39.00 dollars. Over the course of this period, I notice slowly the APR was going up. So I called they explain this was a variable rate and will go up and down....ummmm Sir Newton laws a gravity do not apply here, I have yet to see it go down. its started at 19% now 28%...LOL I called to have them lower the rate, but "sorry sir no offers as of yet" I called about a year after I got the card about a credit increase, sorry sir no credit line increase for you just, but I do have an exciting offer of 28%APR!!! LOL
Needless to say after about a year and half went by I received a letter stating Due to your account being in great standing we will extend your credit $100.00... WOW!!! hahaha more funnies coming up... fast forward a year and half later.

Present day
So My credit is on the right track. Several account all in good standing... And I reach the point where I have an American Express card! I love this card!!! Reason I have not closed this account because it looks good if you have an account open for more than three years. I just dont use it but Once every three months, fill up the tank the drive home wait 2 days for it to post then pay of to keep active. lol Just for giggles, I called last week about a credit line increase. =P
The guy that I spoke to could barely speak english and stated with so much ENERGY, "Congratulation!!! You have just been offered an increase of your limit by ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!! I broke out laughing and even teared up! He said I can make this happen right now! Would you accept the generous offer?!?! Here was the Mastercard "Priceless" Moment.... I said, "NO"
the phone went silent for about a minute... He's keystoke looking for the rebudle for that answer but could not find one... so he said I understand..so you want do not want to take advantage of this offer? I just kept laughing and through the tears and delightful pains in my stomach from laughing, I managed to say, "no"

LOL in short Nearly three years of EVERY payment on time got me a whole 100.00 limit increase *(would have been 200.oo but I decided not to take their GENEROUS offer of another 100.00) and an APR of 28%. If you dont care then this is the right card for you, but if you are trying to improve you credit keep it, when you have the opportuntiy to open another card with a better rates take it and use this card once in a blue moon just to keep it active... remember three years with an account in good standing looks great on your credit report!

Most attractive feature: Good card if you cant get anything else.
Least attractive feature: Agents dont speak english well and the award you with awesome APR LIKE 28%

"Others are WAY better than this card."
First, let me start by saying that I've held every 'bad credit' card available except for Centennial (since I had a First Premier card, they only let you have one or the other) and Tribute (which used to be the Aspire card, which I still have). Of all of my cards, Orchard Bank is the ONLY one besides First Premier that did not get any sort of credit line increase. Mind you I had the card for nearly a year. Continental Finance increased mine after 6 months, and then every 2-3 months after that. Even that crappy Purpose Advantage Discover card gave me an increase the first month I had it. Yet Orchard refused.

I called to cancel the card, they did everything possible to retain me EXCEPT the right thing - which was give me my due increases. They said, "well I can put through an evaluation right now" - I don't want to be evaluated now, it's too late. I want you to just honor the increases and apply them immediately. "Well, I can't do that sir" - which is why I want to cancel.

They charge WAY too much money to pay them online via rush payment. I mean, I'm sending you money faster than you really deserve it, yet you want to charge me? Uh, no.

Their customer service is outsourced, so be prepared for some chick reading from a script who doesn't clearly understand English.

Terrible, terrible card. At first I thought it would be one of my better ones due to the very reasonable monthly payment, but clearly you get what you pay for. Stay away from this card. If you need a decent card and don't mind paying a little extra for it, Continental Finance will suit you better.

Most attractive feature: Easy to get one.
Least attractive feature: They don't honor their credit line increase policy at all.

"Watch that GM Card"
To the previous poster, you have made a wise choice if you are considering closing this account before your next annual fee if you have one. If you read other threads, this has been going on with HSBC since they took over Household.

That being said, you mentioned that you now have the GM card. That card is also issued by household and if you hang around awhile you are going to find yourself in the exact same position as you are now with thier MAsterCard. This latest round of rate jacking was standard across all lines and GM card holders were protesting this on other boards.

I feel that they will rate jack you on this card as well if they can justify rate jacking you on the first one. Let your next card be a non-HSBC card and I think you'll be much happier.

"Good card...use with caution..."
I have a platinum and silver card from this company. I have never been late and always pay way more than the minimum, sometimes paying them off. Recently I carried about a 50% credit balance on my limit on both card for a few months and they raised my APR from 13.5% to 28% without notice. I called to ask why and they stated that I was carrying a balance and they raised my APR. I asked if I paid down the balance in full, would my APR come back down. They said they were not sure. Well, I have and it still hovers at 28% APR. When I called again to ask, a lady said oh well you'll have to deal with it. I was surprised to hear this since Ive been in great standing with them in my 3+ years. I would have to say that this is a great card to get to start rebuilding your credit, just keep your balancs low and pay them off immediately. I will hold onto the cards for emergencies, but now I'm getting offers from Capital One and I just received the GM Card with 0% APR for 12 months and 5.75 thereafter. I also found that there is a CAP they place on credit limits epending on the card type. Even with a nice 710 score I could not get past 700 on the silver mastercard. Good luck to all in this ever-so-wild credit industry.

"Coming off a bankruptcy"
I lost all my credit with a bankruptcy (mostly from my business failure) and Orchard gave me a start and also three credit increases in a little over 2 years. They post payments and report to credit people on time. Great card to start rebuilding and maybe even after.

"Proceed with caution!"
I am in the process of rebuilding my credit, and have been current on all obligations for the past 6 years.

I received notice that my Orchard rate would be increasing to close to 30%. I know this is a condition of the terms if I'm not current on ANY account, so when I called to question it, they offered to send a letter of explaination. The reason was my credit balances were too high - this right after (literally days) after sending me a preapproved card for a new account because of my "Outstanding credit".

Customer service gave me the run around, and it was esclated, to no avail. Stay away from Orchard.

"Best. Card. Ever. (for people with poor/no credit)"
This card has MUCH lower fees than the other cards for people with poor or no credit. None of those monthly fees either, which are a real pain in the butt if you're not otherwise carrying a balance. Great card, and they gave me a chance fresh out of bankruptcy.

"I'm back again!"
Well, I had a Orchard bank classic card that I cancelled after 8 months of membership. I cancelled because I was still sitting at a $300 credit limit after 8 months. Needless to say I received an offer for a Orchard bank platinum card. The card had no annual fee, a 0% intro offer for six months, and a regular apr of 15.9%. I applied and was appoved for a $750 credit limit. My credit score is @590. I guess they saw that I have been paying off some of my collection accounts and decided that I deserved better than what I had before. Great card!!
