| "Choose REI card over Chase for rebates" |
| I got this card after my previous REI VISA card was discontinued. REI did not sell the names, they were sold by the bank after REI discontinued the relationship because the bank could not meet REI's terms. REI established a new VISA card with US Bank, who continues to service the REI VISA today. Between the two cards, I prefer the REI VISA because of its reward plan. The Chase mastercard is good if you buy a lot of stuff from certain outdoor retailers who give discounts to cardmembers. But as a general-use credit card, you're much better off with the REI card since it gives a straight 1% rebate. The Chase card calculates its rebate based on how much you charge. For example, you get a 0.25% rebate on the first $2000 of purchases. |

| "Chase Outdoor Privileges Mastercard" |
| This card is a replacement for the Recreational Equipment Incorporated co-op card. It came about when Recreational Equipment Incorporated sold the member list of the previous card to Chase. It offers cash back on all purchases, paid in the form of a check mailed once a year. As long as the full balance is paid each month, the high interest rate and high fees are not a problem. As with most credit cards in circulation today, the fees for all transaction are way too high, so it is necessary to be carefull to not do anything to trigger them. The slow processing of payments makes it necessary to mail a check as soon as the bill arrives, to avoid a late payment fee. |
