Unfriendly banking policies and uncaring staff

11/03/2010
I travelled abroad, so was late paying the credit card. They charged a late fees on my account. Since it was my first time paying late, I called customer service in hope they would waive the late fee. My request is denied. When I asked for a reason, the representative told me that they will only excuse customers who pay late for very first time. I then asked why my late fee was not waived since it was also first time of me paying late? She idled for a while and vaguely replied "maybe you have not been using the card actively or as often, so we cannot excuse you!" She even declined my request to speak to a supevisor. Horrible experience!!!!

The Good and the Bad

09/11/2009
The good thing about this card is that I was not able to get credit for years because of past issues. It has since helped me out several times when I ran out of money. I love the thought of rebuilding my credit, however, I have been a paying customer for over 4 months now, and when I try to apply for credit elsewhere, my credit report still says I have no credit. So, so far it hasn't helped me rebuild anything. Also, be aware of when you make a payment online- it says if you post a payment on the weekend, it will post the next business day. It doesn't actually post until midnight that night, so technically it's Tuesday morning before it shows up! So post it in plenty of time so you won't be considered late. Lastly, I get confused because you're dealing with two companies- Plains Commerce Bank and Total Visa. When calling one customer service, they might tell you to call the other place. Also, it's one website to post a payment, another website to check your balance, etc.

Great for what I expected and needed.

This card was very easy to apply for and get. You can see a increase in your available credit limit within the first three months of good payment history. I recently checked my credit and found it has gone from the mid 400's to the low 600's over the last two years. You can either mail in your payments, or pay online, as well as a few other options. Be warned that if you do pay online you can't make another online payment for 14 days. This is only a problem if you pay a balance in the middle of the month before the next statement. Because you may not be able to pay online in time for your next payment, and your payment will be considered late. Also, keep your statement and anything else that has customer service numbers handy. If you use the number on the back of the card it only gives you basic account info and won't connect you to a "real person" for that you have to call another number and wait for a rep to answer after you ignore the automated prompts. When I called the bank that issues the cards though they told me that the system was being updated and doesn't yet have the "speak to a customer service rep" option.
Most Attractive Feature: Multipile ways to pay your bill.
Least Attractive Feature: Hard to contact customer service.

CREDIT SOLUTION

08/01/2006
I have had my Plains Commerce Bank secured credit card for 3 years. I, like many other people, did not understand credit and the consequences of bad credit. When, it was time to take on responsibility, I could not get credit anywhere. I received my secured card a week and half after applying for it. It has been good to me ever since. I started with a $300 limit and have increased it to a $1000 limit. In two years my credit score went from 498 to 601. I don't understand why others are having problems with payment posting. There are times I send my payments via postal mail three days before the due and never got a late fee. Also, they have online payments that post the next day. The annual fee is cheaper than most of the other secured cards. It is a really good place to start for credit. This is my last year keeping it, I will be moving on to a unsecured card, if it wasn't for my Plains Commerce Card, I would still being higher interest rates on ther loans.

Have had my card for several years

06/18/2006
I applied for received my credit card several years ago. The first thing I recalled was that they would send the statement but when I mailed in payment it would be late.? This happened several times so I just started using money graham and have since then. Yes this cost me more but it helped re-establish my credit. The interest rate is rather high and I did ask them since I have maintained good credit with them if they could lower the rate but they said no. The only thing I can do is later on go with another credit card company with a lower rate. Overall my experiences has been good.

Total VISA Might be right for you but be careful.

This is a good card to help reestablish credit, but when you are able to obtain another card I would probably suggest dropping this one due to the monthly fee of $10.00 that they will not waive ever. Has been good overall and they do have good customer service

Poor Service

04/25/2006
I got this account obviously because of some dumb luck in the past. But like most of us, we try to fix our wrongs. I got this account and immediately sent the payment for the balance in full. Unfortuately for me, All the correspondence that I received says Plains Commerce Bank. I sent the Western Union payment to Plains Commerce Bank and now all of a sudden I'm being told that the payment needs to go to Total Card, even thought the letters say Plains Commerce Bank, and the Billing Address is Plains Comerce Bank, and the card says Plains Commerce Bank..... Now they are screaming that they did not receive my payment, even though it was over 3 days ago (western union I must say.) Well obviously someone picked up that payment. They definitely need to be honest and not use another company's name to get them by. The customer service is horrible. I can understand if I owed them money....I don't owe them anything. They are a horrible group. I would not say that if if was only one person, but it was actually 2 of the "service" people. Oh well, guess that's the attitude you have at a rip-off company.

More late fees?

10/12/2005
I have been trying to pay off this card for 4 months now, and every month I get charged $19 for a late fee. It doesn't seem to matter that I pay my bill THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVE IT, when I actually do get to speak to someone in the department called "Customer Service" I get attitude, and I always get told the payment was received late. What a scam!

My very positive experience with Plains Commerce Bank

04/05/2005
After reading many reviews, I applied for my Plains Commerce Visa "Total" Card online on March 4th (exactly one month ago) and received it in the mail on March 14th. I immediately activated it and got my first statement in the mail within a week. As expected, my balance already included the $250 Activation Fee and showed my available credit as $0. But like I said, I knew this was all part of the deal. I immediately made a $150 payment online via their very easy to use website (myccpay.com) on March 22nd. Being my first payment, I wanted to make sure it was sent in with plenty of time to spare and the payment cleared my bank account in 3 days. Now for the best part...By March 28th, I pulled my credit report and discovered that this card had already reported to my credit bureaus as being current! Plus, they don't report as "secured", which I have heard is very good. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I still can't believe how quickly this card has had a positive effect on my credit score (I didn't have "bad" credit before, just no credit. It still shows my balance as being $150 (even after the $150 payment) so I'm going to have to figure that out when I get my next statement. But other than that, I really couldn't be happier. I even called their customer service line back before I got my first statement (I think I was a little paranoid after reading some other reviews) and they were actually very friendly and helpful. Don't kid yourself...this card won't break any records for lowest APR. It also has a $10/month "Membership Fee." But if you think about it, you're basically paying them $25 a month or so to give you a nice mark on your credit bureaus...nothing more. They do return $50 of your $250 Application fee every 3 months, which is nice, and after a year they'll make it unsecured. But for what it is (a card for re-establishing credit), I really give them my full endorsement!!!

I APPLIED FOR THIS CARD BY INTERNET. AFTER APPROVAL I REALIZED I COULD NOT MAKE MONTHLY PAYMENTS. I HAD CHARGED 22 dollars after paying 25 dollars in advance. i figured i had 3 dollar credit so i closed account. they then put finance charges on the 3 dollar CREDIT balance. they now say i owe $84.09 AND WILL REPORT ME AS A BAD CREDIT SITUATION AND CALL ME 4 TIMES A DAY. YOU DECIDE ABOUT THIS COMPANY.

Good secured card for rebuilding credit

05/25/2004
When you have had a recent bankruptcy, it is hard to find credit cards that you can use to rebuild your credit history with timely payments. Most, like Aspire and First Premier, will allow you to do so by ripping you off. Plains Commerce Bank also offers an unsecured card with outrageous fees. There are some better alternatives. Orchard Bank offers an unsecured card with a $300 limit. It has a low annual fee compared to other cards for people with poor credit. You should start with this card to rebuild your credit. If you'd like more accounts, with higher limits (a must for hotel stays or car rentals) then you'll have to go get a secured card for a few years. This is where Plains Commerce Bank secured comes in to the rescue. When you look for a secured card, you want one with no application fee, a resonable annual fee, and most importantly, you need a card that DOES NOT report you as a secured card (and reports your timely payment history), and pays you interest on your security deposit. Plains Commerce Bank and American Pacific Bank do all of the above. Plains allows you to deposit between $300-$5000, and you can have both a visa and mastercard, if you desire (so up to $10,000 in combined limits if you have that much to deposit). They also pay 4.6% interest on your deposit (American Pacific Bank pays bout 1%), and it offers online account access (and an online payment service). The only downfall with this card is that it will never become unsecured. So, you'll probably keep it a few years until you can get some good unsecured credit offers.
Most Attractive Feature: Easy to get, not reported as a secured card, up to $5000 deposit accepted per card
Least Attractive Feature: will never become unsecured
