Can you believe this one??!!!

My husband and I are in the middle of building a house and the mortgage broker contacts me and tells me that I do not have a credit score because I am deceased. I freak out and he tells me that Spiegel has reported me as being deceased on my credit report and that they will not give me a score because they think I'm trying to commit identity theft!! I disputed this last April through Experian and it says that it was verified and will remain the same. I have filed a complaint with the FTC and am now trying to contact Spiegel directly to get this cleared up.

Several months ago I was notified that the company with which this card was associated was no longer using this card and I would be notified of the new company and a new card would be issued.

I have been trying contact these people for months I went thru a divorce,had to file bankrupcty (this all took place 5 yrs ago) Now all of a sudden im getting a bill from them for over 2000.00 (because of interest)try to talk to someone or contact someone is a joke. im trying to get my credit cleaned up because of the divorce and these jokers are not helping..

Wow you guys gotta admit this Company is really good at scamming us. Thanks alot Spiegel for the warning! The Card Processing Center is the only credit card company I have that routinely changes its payments dates. Oh there are occassions when the dates remain the same, thats only to throw us off track, then "BAM!" the date changes again. Hello customer you know owe us $35 in late fees. Have you ever called to make a payment by phone? These jokers have the audacity to ask why is your payment late? I will refrain from my response due requirements of this site. I'll just leave that to your imagination. So if you owe these thieves anymore payments always read your statement regardless!

Thanks to a web search and all of your comments, I finally reached a real person from CMS, (Card Precessing Center) and made a final payment with them over the phone. Since I have been making regular payments and it has not shown negatively on my credit report, they were unwilling to settle for a smaller amount. Since having this card and debt for several years, there is some things I have learned from this experience: Always pay more than the minimum payment (see "Finance Charge") and make on time payments, if possible. The late fees of $35 have smacked me on occassion. It is my hope to have my transactions and business completed with them smoothly and have a closed and paid off account. Continuously screwed by Card Processing Center Spiegel

Like everyone else, my Spiegel card (which was current) was suddenly sold to Card Processing Center. Suddenly my interest rate went up.out of the blue. And like others, when I moved, even though I filled out the change of address form on the back of the statement, several of my bills did not come to me. As I was going through surgery and follow-ups with my oncologist, I didn't notice until a few months into it that I hadn't received them. Of Course, my interest was increased, I was billed lated fees which in turn put me over my limit real quick. Now I've got the rediculous $35 over-the-limit fee every month causing me to be billed more than I can afford each month & increasing. I can't get a live person on th phone at 516-576-8706 & information does not have a listing for Card Proc. Cntr in Hicksville, NY or Old Bethpage, NY. Anyone have any ideas on what to do or has anyone been able to talk to a lawyer at all?

Well my problem is similar to everyone else. I would send out my payment near the begining of the month, and I would be charged a late fee of $35.00, even though my payment was made, this happened for several months while my bill was quickly racking in fees. Once I realized I was sending my payment to early I sent it in the middle of the month. Still I received late fees. I did not dispute the hundreds of dollars they enfored onto my accound, I had good intention of doing so but did not get a chance to do it. Finally I did, but they will only dispute current problems. So I had to write them a letter explaining my past problems with them and my current, they credited my account $35.00 but that's all. This credit card was not that high, but they made sure it was by tacking on tons of unecessary late fees. Four years later I am slowly getting it under control. It is almost paid off. But if anyone ever decided to to file a class aciton law suit, I would support it. It seems that they have plenty of angry clients.

I don't see the review I put in yesterday so I am redoing this:Speigal/card processing center has done nothing but give me one headache after another. In July of 2004 I split a payment I had made a payment of $35.00 and then when I got out of the hospital I made the payment balance. In August I was sick again, did not make a payment, now please remember that in July I was current, I got the bill in Sept and I was in the hole by $296.00. I called to see why it was so much, U never got a straight answer. I wrote them a letter telling them I knew I owed them the money, but to plwase help me rectify this problem..all I goit wa a larger bill...this situation has made me physical ill and I am not sure how to handle it. What I need to do is get the history of my payments so I can figure out what is going. I now have 2 numbers that you can call to get a real person 1-866-503-0872 and 1-866-888-8943. These people need to be accountable to their customer instead of bleeding them dry.

In the month of July 2004, I had a payment of $55.00 to make, I made it in split payments, $20.00 and $35.00, since that time everything on this account has gone down hill. I don't even know now how this account got so out of hand...all I know is I was making my payments and before I new it I was $296.00 over my credit limit and was being charged late charges and over the limit charges..I ask them to explain and got no where, I aksed them to help me and got no where,in the meantime I am sending payments in just to get in the hole deeper!!! NOw I am in some program where I pay $70.00 for the first 3 months and then I don't what is next..but I continue to get their nasty automated phone call with a number I can't even reach....My health is awful and the pressure these people have put on me is making me sicker!!! Please help me!!! we need to file a class action suit, does anyone know how?

There are numerous complaints about Spiegel/FCNB/Card Processing Center/whathaveyou, and one person suggested the following action; perhaps it can help many of you with these exorbitant fees. ------------------------------ It seems like they are breaking the law left and right. Also, did you know that the First National Bank of Omaha actually took over for FCNB? Their number is 888-530-3626. You should write a complaint letter as to what FCNB is doing to: Comptroller of the Currency Customer Assistance Specialist 1301 McKinney Street, Suite 3450 Houston, TX 77010-9050. You do not need to take this credit card company's abuse. Let the comptroller know about the huge late fees, and over-limit fees. Let them know about how this started out to be a much lesser debt. I wrote to them regarding them not crediting me for their annual fee when they were the one to cancel the card through no fault of my own. Guess what? They credited me the annual fee. They are being greedy trying to get this money from you, like this. It is also extremely unreasonable.

I STARTED THIS ACCOUNT IN NOVEMBER OF 2000. I NEVER EVEN CHARGED ANTYHING TO THIS ACCOUNT UNTIL SOMETIME TIME IN THE SPRING OF 2001. I DILIGENTLY MADE MY PAYMENTS ON TIME WITH NO PROBLEM. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STATEMENTS JUST STOPPED COMING. OF COURSE LIKE ALL OF YOU I COULDN'T GET A HOLD OF ANY ONE TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. I NEVER GOT TO SPEAK TO ANYONE AT ALL AND NOW HERE IT IS MARCH 2005 AND I JUST RECIEVED A COPY OF MY CREDIT REPORT. AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT THERE IS MY SPEIGEL ACCT WITH A BALANCE OF $1564.00. HERE'S JUST A LITTLE HEADS UP. I WAS JUST OFFERED A GREAT JOB MAKING 20.00 AN HOUR AND AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR DUE TO A CREDIT CHECK THEY DID AND THAT ONE AND ONLY ONE ACCOUNT WHICH HAS BEEN CHARGED OFF. What these people are doing would send us to jail

I have had the same problems as everyone else. I tried to set up automatic draws from my account and was told this account wasn't eligible for that feature. I tried to get it set up on line, not eligible. I tried the www.cardaccessservices.net. Imagine this, there are no results found. I finally set it up with my bank to have the bill paid on line. We live very remote and the weather shuts down the mail service frequently. Everything went ok for about 6 months. Then every month I recieve a late fee. I wrote several letters, at first, polite asking why late charges were being applied to an online payment made well in advance of the due date. Then they turned ugly demanding to know why. In all cases I recieved a letter thanking me, and letting me know how much my business was appreciated. So I stopped making the payments and guess what, they called me. When I asked the representative why, she told me she didn't know. So I told her I didn't know when I could make the payment. They called me everyday for 99 days. Caller id makes it easy to avoid certain callers. Every day they left a message asking me to contact them. Then one day I decided to make the effort to make the payments and get the account current by the next due date. This amounted to $350.00. I set it up with the representative for 3 weekly payments to amount to past due. After the first payment I get a call from a different person wanting to know if I wanted to make payment arrangements. I was nice and said arrangements had been made. She thanked me and hung up. After the second payment was made another person called and wanted to know if I wanted to make payment arrangements to get my account current. I went berzerk. I told him the arrangements had been made and I was sick and tired of continually being harrassed by them when I did what I said I was going to do. I told him I would make the payments in a timely manner when they posted mine payments in a timely manner. My bank transfers guanteed funds from my checking account to pay the card account. They will still hold posting for 10 days to whenever the day after the due date to post. You can't win. They won't let you

This is a rip off!

I actually rate this company at a zero! I paid off my account but now have a balance past due and have been turned over for collection because of late fees. Try to get this resolved since everything has to be in writing and no one can contact them. They refuse to contact anyone and if you call the customer service number listed on the statement they will yell at you and tell you it isn't their problem. They just take payments. Someone needs to do something about this.

What a Rip Off

I've had my Spiegel card for several years and when I had to start making payments to FCNB,I set my account up on monthly bank draft @ $30 mthly. Which was more than the minimum due. After they filed bankruptcy, I quit getting a statement, but I continued to pay my $30 a month. Over 8 mths ago I called to see if I could get a statement and never could get thru to a human. The recording told me to write to the Old Beth Page address for inquiries on my acct. Well as of Dec 04, I still had not heard a thing from them, and I've set 3 requests. So, I made a payment in December and marked ACCT PD IN FULL and didn't send another payment. They called in Jan, when I didn't send my payment and told me I owed $1200.00, which was more than I had ever charged. I ask them where my statements were going and they gave me an old address. I had notified them of that address change, a long time ago. They said that because of late fees and overlimit fees, I owed $1200. But, over 2 years ago when I started making my automatic payments, I was under limit and actually paid a month ahead, so that my payments would never be late. Looks like their killing us all with their fees. As of today, I'm doing my 5th letter to the Old Beth Page address. If they put this on my credit report, you can bet I'll dispute it. I would be happy to pay this account in full, if they would take care of all these ridiculus charges and tell me what my real balance is.

Spiegel should be ashamed of themselves. Not only was I not properly notified when Spiegel declared bankruptcy, when I found out which was about 2 months after I was informed that I had accummulated over $500.00 in late fees. Now that I am trying to clear up this mess that they created for some reason which they say the payment is not reaching them on time. I am still trying to pay off late fees. To this day my account is over $4000.00. If I make a payment over the amount due the customer service representative is telling me that it is not reaching them on time, so I am still paying late fees. This company needs to be investigated and the customers reimbursed for the late fees when they filed bankruptcy. I am mad as hell because even when I send my checks out way before they are do it seems as though Spiegel holds the check until after the due date which will make me have to pay late fees.

I WAS a good customer until I was one day late on ONE payment! I am going to provide my Spiegel Charge information to my Congressman, to show how certain credit card companies are really putting the screws to consumers. Maybe if we all did this, we could get some legislation passed that would help put these bastions of greed out of business!!!

Spiegel never notified me properly of the bankruptcy and when i was hit by the Processing Center (collections for them) my original bill of $350.00 is now over $3,000 due to interest and non-compliance on their part. I have made payments at a minimum and still cannot get anywhere with this, I have written several letters and still nothing. Something should be done to correct this matter, it is not fair to the consumers. They have ruined my credit. Somebody do soemthing to help us all. I will gladly pay off my original bill as it was, but refuse to pay this interest.

I have paid by balance off three times only to get another bill stating I was late. The next Month I get a late fee added to the late fee. I have decided that I will not give them anymore of my money and have tried to contact them in writing only to get a letter stating that they could not review my account because to it is past due. I cannot find a email address for them and am hoping they call me or turn me over to a agency just to have someone that I can talk to. The only way I pay this bill off again is by court order. This place is a scam and something has to be done about them.

I had this card several years ago. It was sold to another company. Debt was paid. Some how this debt has reappeared and been sold to Citibank. A collection company for them has been calling saying I owe the debt. I do not. They won't prove to me that I owe it, I have to prove to them that I paid it. I faught with a woman on the phone until she hung up on me. Watch out for a company called ERC.

I got my Spiegel card back in 1999. I never had a problem until I got an email saying FCNB was filing bankruptcy in 2003 and that my account was being closed. I called in and was told that my account was transfered to the Card processing center out of New York. Well that months payment went to FCNB and was transfered to New York. Therefore it was late and I was charged a late fee. Card Processing Center has NO phone customer service. I wrote in for over a year to get the late fee removed. Luckily it didn't hit the credit bureaus as a late pay. I feel sorry for the people that had thier accounts transfered and didn't know about for months. Thier credit is ruined because FCNB went bankrupt. And what can anyone do? This world has another thing comming!

For almost two years I have tryed to send payments and get statements regarding my account. I even had a payment returned. So today I received a letter from Academy Collection Service, Inc. My account has been turned over to them for collections and they will be happy to accept 80% of the balance? Is this a joke? How come there is not a class action law suit against these people yet?

I was trying to find a phone no for them and found this website as well. I rec'd a copy of my credit report from all three bureaus and found out that this stupid !@#@! company as reported false information on my report not once but twice. So I call the phone no. that I rec'd off of HOOVER'S BOOKS ONLINE and tried to explain this to these people with no avail. They told me that I was beating a dead horse, simply because that company has gone out of business and they don't have the authority to remove their false information (although my account was sold to them). So now I am going to have to contact all of these credit bureaus and what for up to 90 days for them to realize that this company is no longer in business and remove this false information. In the mean time, I am trying to close on a new home. Boy, these son's of b*itches, have really pissed me off.

Like every one else ... Speigal ... blah blah blah .... CMS ... moved no statement after a requesting one once every month since November 19 2003 .... oh ... here is the phone number that I use .. 800-727-3348 to call and actually get a HUMAN ... not that recording crap ... I use this to make a payment over the phone ... that way I can not get screwed with the late fees (I get a confirmation number). But now, I just mail a payment of $1,647.42 that covers the balance good until October 30th according to Patrick Zamor ... that should not have any daily compounded interest applied until after October 30th. I mailed the payment to the P.O Box in Hicksville, NY. Two dail overnight MAIL (NO Signature required) that way I have tracking of when they actually received it .. at least in the P.O. Box .. which should be emptied daily .... and we will see if I am also become a victim of the "after balance" ... and "additional charges" ....

Worse card ever invented

I had a credit card with these people. The balance started out at about 500.00 The total to this company when all was said and done was $2,538.24 After harassing phone calls to me on a daily basis at work and home I paid off this debt to them in full. Ths was back in January 2000. Low and behold its now September 2004 and Ive just recently requested a credit report and these people sold this paid debt to another company where its on my credit report showing I owe this new company the original amount of $2,538.00. Who do you turn to for help. Help

I was searching the internet for a contact number for the Card Processing Center, and came across this site. After reading the reviews, I was shocked to see that so many people have had the same exact issues I have had with this horrendously unethical company. They seem to send out statements only when they feel like it, and are wonderful at making harassing calls to ask you to pay up. I had about a $250 balance on my card and it is now over $520 - solely due to "late fees" and interest. What a total scam. As others have said, they are close to impossible to contact, and will only accept WRITTEN disputes!??! What kind of company does business like that in the 21st century!?!? STAY FAR AWAY!!!!!

My husband lost his high paying job and things were hard so some things had to be let go.I tried to explain this to their rep. who told me "Your husband shouldn't have to pay your bills for you" He got real nasty..I explained I could pay $20 a week now and he wouldn't hear of it"No I need $400 down and $100 a month.When your husband is only bringing home $230a week tell me how? Card Processing Centers' Service is Awful!!

I have a credit balance on my closed Speigel account and the card processing center told me I have to wait 2-3 billing cycles in order to received my refund. Also, I can't receive my refund until I send a letter requesting it. I can't imagine why I would need to send a letter requesting a refund on a closed account. I did finally get a toll free number which is 1 866 503-0872. I received this after many phone calls and being hung up on by 2 supervisors.

To all of you out there that have had the same problems with this company: I too have not received a bill from CPC since my move to Texas, in March, although, when I reached them by phone ( I do have a number and will share ), they informed me that they did receive my change of address and had been sending statements to the new address. It must be a problem with the Post Office, they say. Now, the PO has been in business for, how many years? 200 or so? NOT!!!! The "lady" informed me that I will have to put my complaint in writing, to the company, but that is no guarantee that they will remove the $178.00 in late fees that have accumulated since March. The "lady" also informed me it was my responsibility to call them if I hadn`t received a statement. You ALL know what a farce that is! So now I`m faced with the PO losing my letters to CPC, the additional late fees that they continue to add to my account and a bad mark on my credit that I have been working diligently to improve. what happened?

ever since card processing center took over my balance has sky rocketed due to late fees... what i don't get is even if i make a payment by phone 3-4 days before my due date i get late fees. how? anyone else ever heard of a credit card company that doesn't have an 800 number or how about just a working number? the last time i actually got through to their automated system i was on hold for ever before giving up due to long distance rates. i am glad to find that i am not the only one with these problems , but feel sad for us all.

Late Charge Problems

I have been having the same problem as others with late payment charges. It is strange that checks mailed the same day to other companies arrive on time and clear my bank as much as 10-14 days before checks going to CPC. In addition to which I received a phone call from a Shawn there earlier this week who spoke barely understandable English and was pushing for me to make an already made, but not received payment by phone. I refused and told him I would do some checking with my bank. I asked for a phone number to call them back. Interestingly enough, my check cleared my bank 2 days later. And, the phone number I was given is not a good number.

I can't even get a statement of my account

I was glad to see that I am not the only person suffering from this company's fraudulant actions. I have not received a statement once this year. I know I owe them money, so I keep sending to the address I have always sent it too. I have tried to call (anyone have a working number?), and I have written tons of letters begging for a statement. To this day 07/15/04 I have not heard anything from this company. I am sure sooner or later I will get a statement with late fee's on it. I have no idea if I'm late, or how much I owe at this time. This should be illegal. I am at a loss. If there is a class action suit I would definetely be interested in being part of it.

I had a Spiegel account in good standing. All of a sudden, my account was closed and the interest rate hit the roof. I was pregnant and on bed rest at the time, so I did not really pay close attention to my statements - or lack thereof. When I did get a statement after 3 months, an additional $300 was added due to the increased late charges and new interest rate. I am finally in a position to pay off my balance in full which is now $1200 (it was only 525 last year - and I haven't used it) I am very interested in a class action suit.

Unending late charges

Before Card Processing took over for FCNB cardholders there was a 10 day grace period before late charges would be apply. This changed with the turnover to Card Processing and the cardholders were not informed of the change. If a bill is due on a Sunday and you don't call until Monday you are still charged a late charge because, apprently they are open on sunday, but they fail to tell their cardholder that unless they ask. Card Processing does not tell the card holder about this so they can make more money off of the late fees.

Makin' CMS Millions

First of all, I want to say that I never had a problem with my FCNB/Spiegel acct until CMS took over. This co is making millions in LATE FEES! When I found this site, I couldn't believe how many people are going through the same problems. It's been well over a year and my bal still hasn't budged (literally) due to that infamous, bogus, fruadulent $35 late fee! WARNING: one tactic they use is, if your payment does not post by the due date (even though you sent it last week), they will send you a past due notice with your min pymnt doubled but it says to disregard this notice if pymt has already been sent. That's all good, but they will fail to send your next stmt on time or won't send it at all! That's two late fees in a row!! They also changed my due date with no notice from the end of the mo to the begining, which is not good for me (more of a chance of being late). I tried to call but it is an automated system and it says you must write them (how inconvenient). This is the ONLY creditor I have a problem with. I've even been told (when they call me because I certainly can't get in contact with them) that I have MISSED a couple of pymnts in the past (they may not have posted in time but I haven't MISSED any pymnt, I'm trying to get these people paid off so I won't have to deal with them anymore)! Before I found this site, I thought it was JUST ME, but I see that CMS is MAKIN' MILLIONS off of a lot of us Ka$hKows!!! Sounds like Class Action 2 Me!!!

Since the Card Processing Center took over the Spiegel Charge account I'v had nothing but trouble trying to pay my bill. All I get are late fees after late fees no matter haw soon I pay my bill. They have ignored my requests time after time about the increases that I've been charged for no reason. My bill goes up with each payment. At this rate I'll owe them forever. If I wasn't trying to keep my credit in good standing I would refuse to pay this bill.

Couldn't get late fees to stop

Like most of these posts, Spiegel closed my account, but still charged me late fees, then when I would phone, a rude rep would tell me that nothing is going on, that my account is closed and to pay the remaining balance with whomever they forwarded the account to. Meanwhile I would get the same monthly statement with a brand new late fee. I am working with the BBB with this, and as of yet, they have not been able to get to anyone with any real answers as to where these late fees were coming from when they didn't even have the account anymore.

Worst card I have ever had!!

The problem started when Card Processing Center of Hicksville, NY started processing Spiegel's credit cards. I never had a problem with my Spiegel account before then. Since Card Processing Center took over, I have been slapped with late fee after late fee. At first, CPS wasn't so blatant. I would mail a payment two weeks before the due date and I would get a $35 late fee on my next bill. I thought the first time, maybe the payment was delayed in the mail, but month after month? Hardly! CPS holds onto checks to cheat consumers out of $35 monthly. Things have gone downhill since then. I have resorted to sending my payments by USPS Express Mail. Believe it or not, if a payment is due on a Sunday, and Express Mail delivers it by early Saturday morning, these thieves STILL CHARGE ME A LATE FEE!!! The Express Mail fiasco has happened the last 3 months in a row, and I figure I have been fraudulantly charged $350 in late fees since CPS took over the Spiegel accounts. I am going to file a complaint with the attorney general. I have all the documentation from the post office to substantiate my claims. To add insult to injury, I now only "owe" what CPS has charged me for bogus late fees. This morning, I sent the "miniumum" payment of $15 by Express Mail until I can get this resolved SO THEY DON'T CHARGE ME ANOTHER $35 late fee. Someone should be able to help me since I can prove CPS received the money on or before the due date. After so many complaints, does anyone wonder why this scam outfit hasn't been shut down? CPS refuses to do anything about my problem. Other cards I have, such as Wells Fargo Visa, are wonderful. When in doubt of a late payment, they have forgiven the late fee. At CPS, the customer is always wrong.

How do you get out of this Scam

I too am a former Spiegel/FCNB cardholder. Statements were not received for approxmately 5 months following short notice of bankruptcy in March 2003. I am now receiving huge minimum balance due notices and $35 late charges on bills I never received. I have requested my past payment history and balance prior to Spiegels Bankruptcy and am now told I must pay $2.00 per page to receive these. I have written 3 letter disputing my account and filed a complaint with the FTC. At this time I have gotten no where with this and feel like I am over a barrel. Just wish someone would let me know how to stop this outrageous customer service. All I want is my past payment/balance history. They want $200 per month from me and I want to know why my interest rate and late charges are so high and when this all took place. This company is very shady and is harrassing former customers of Spiegel/FCNB. You get no where when you try to get answers from Card Processing Center, Old Bethpage, NY. How can we stop this???????

Increase of Credit Limit? What a Joke!

Approximately 8 months ago I applied for a new Spiegel credit card after Spiegel filed Chapter 11 and closed my account of 20 years. Little did I know that WFNNB was the bank issuing the card. They opened the account with a $750 credit limit, this after having a $15,0000 credit limit under my old Spiegel account. When I inquired about an increase, they told me they couldn't do it because I didn't have enought credit history. I wrote them a nasty letter explaining that I had 30 years of excellent credit history with ALL my creditors as well as an excellent debt to income ratio and that if they had done their homework, they would have known that. Obviously, they never bothered to take the time to do this. I also pointed out to them that my Victorias Secret card is with them with more than twice the credit limit and a 10 plus years history on that account. These people are idiots and have no business being in the lending business. They wouldn't know a good customer if it jumped up and bit them in the face. All they know how to do is send out computer generated letters. My advice - use your Visa or Master Card with a bank that knows what they are doing!

After I was in a serious auto accident, I forwarded my mail to my mother's address because she had to care for me. CMS failed to forward my statement to my mother's address, and even after the forwarding order expired, they failed to send a statement to me at my home address. They have charged late fees for four months and still haven't sent a statement. I've talked with four collectors, and the problem still hasn't been rectified. I am now sending a formal complaint letter with cc: to the BBB and the FTC. Please note that per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, once you notify CMS in writing that you refuse to pay a balance (late fee), they must cease communication with you except under certain circumstances. My Speigel acct was "closed" with no warning due to their filing bankruptcy. I called the processing center and finally reached a "human" to see if we could work out a "settlement". I was willing to pay 75% of this bill since it was THEY who closed the account. The rep said "no can do" and that was that! My interest rate jumped to a whopping 27.5%!!!! Go to FTC.gov and file complaint after complaint!

We are having financial difficulties & this company is not helping matters AT all. They are constantly calling me at work, never at home. They say they do, but no messages are ever left & I have yet to answer a phone call from them. Constant harrassment about late bills, returned checks, blah blah blah. I know that I owe them money, but they refuse to work with anyone to maybe get a smaller payment for a short period of time (which I have done with many other creditors). I am just frustrated & on the brink of insantity when it comes to the shoddy treatment given on the phone. I am always polite because I know I am past due, but I like to be treated like a human. The guy I just talked to minutes ago was yelling at me & people in my office could here him & he was NOT on speakerphone. UGH!!!!!! Thanks for letting me vent - AVOID them at all costs!!

If you think that's bad listen to this. Initially I started off with a credit limit of $400 and I balance of about $200. Suddenly the company cut my credit down to $200, charged the ususal interest rate, pushed my balance well over $200 and hit me with one over the limit fee after another. Additonally, I was charged late fees when I paid on time and over the limit fees that have accured to the tune of $668. I have written them only to see them reverse one late fee! There's no phone number to call to speak to anyone and only a recording that says you must write. This has gone on for months now and I've filed a complaint with the BBB. I'd love nothing more than to sue if these fees aren't removed.

I ENJOYED THE SPIEGEL CARD AND THE SERVICES AND HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THE ACCOUNT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE PROCESSING CENTER. MONTHS WITH NO BILL, NO PAYMENTS TAKEN STORES, NO CONTACT INFORMATION AND THEN WHEN I DID RECEIVE A BILL - LATES FEES. I RECCOMMEND EVERYONE TO CALL CONSUMER AFFAIRS IN NASSAU COUNTY AND FILE A COMPLAINT (516-571-2600). WHEN I FOUND THIS SITE I WAS AMAZED WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTED. IF EVERYONE WOULD FILE IN THAT COUNTY WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED MAYBE SOMETHING WILL BE DONE.

Like all of these other people I didnt receive a bill for 3 months. When I tried to contact someone it was impossible!!! I started getting terrible calls from crazy men who couldnt even speak English!!!!! All I wanted was a bill so I could take care of my account and they refused to give it to me! I want to sue also! I used to love Spiegel until all of this happened. I'd rather die than shop with them now!!!! Speigel sold accounts to CMS. CMS is terrible collection agency...3rd largest in the world (online research). The usual complaint...they gave me no credit for payment received (I have cancelled receipt), then charged me $35 late fee, keep my status as payment past due. This started in Sept., it is now Feb.! They say the department responsible for making these corrections is really busy and there is a backlog! I bet! How long you figure they need?You can't contact them by phone, must write them! A really, really shoddy outfit. There I'm done. Please, for your own sake, avoid these people like the plague they are.

I just got a collection notice from some company saying I owe hundreds of dollares in fees to some company called Card service center Account Who I just found out today took over spiegal. My account was closed and I owed just one more small payment when I kept getting my checks returned to me unopened. they would not return my phone calls at speigal, and Wouldn't take my check. Now this new company is trying to say I never paid them and have racked up fake fees, do not use them, talking to them is useless unless you enjoy being harrased or screamed at. I would love to sue them because the can't return you money to you and then turn around and say you owe all kinds of fees for not paying. that has to be illeal and believe me I will be talking to a lawyer about it.

I can't believe the poor service!

I have not received a bill from them in over four to five months. I received a phone call about two weeks ago at my office to see why I hadn't paid. I told them that I would pay if I got a bill! I then sent a check to an address they provided for payment. They said a "hold" had been placed on my statements. No one could tell me why there was a hold and I have yet to see the statements. They are still calling both my home and office regularly to see why I am a "deadbeat" as one of the so-called "customer service" reps said. I am throughly disgusted and if and when I get a statement, it will be paid in full. I will be using my own attorney if they try to charge exorbitant fees for late charges. I would love to join a class action suit!

These people disgust me and are nothing but a gang of thieves. They call the house at least three times a day and my wife hangs up the phone feeling violated. Two weeks ago I called them and said I want to pay my wifes bill in full and to cancel her account. They refused to talk with me so I got her on the phone as well. She told them that I would be paying off her account in full and that I wanted to make an electronic payment from my bank account. They quickly refused to take my electronic bank funds transfer to pay off her account and insisted that I could only pay with a money gram. They also noted that if the money gram was on sent by 4PM on that day, her account would be delinquent and over the limit and additional charges would be added. I can play the game any way they want to play it.. so I asked for the exact amount need to pay off the charge and terminate the account. The ladies supervisor was on the phone and the amount they quoted to include accured interest was $1963. I asked if there was any additional cents or just a round number and she said the exact pay off was $1963. So I sent the money gram for $1963 to them before the 4PM and quess what?? My wifes bill came in the mail and states that they received the $1963 but now she owes accrued interest for $32.65. The bill says that in fact the total pay off was $1963.01 and unless the total bill is paid off in full, interest will be accured based on the average balance for the month. So, since one cent still remained on the account, she would be charged the additional $32.65. Phone calls to them to remove the additional charges are to no availe. I will send them the $32.66 and them take them to small claims and recover. I will never buy another Spiegel product and I will tell everyone I meet not to buy Spiegel products. And if there is a class action law suit, count me in as part of the class action suite. Lou

I feel the same way as the other customers who have been cheated by this company. I have been receiving calls from the "credit department" constantly. I was given an option to pay by check over the phone. They finally called me to let me know that 3 of my checks where invalid account numbers. I strongly believe I did not give a wrong account number 3 SEPARATE times. Furthermore, I spoke with the Supervisor who was rude and made a claim that I was a LIAR and that they couldn't possibly make any mistakes. I made a call to the credit department tonight to inquire about my account and they simply said that they were the credit department and not "customer service". I would have to write to their customer service department for any inquiry!! This is totally wrong! Now i'm stuck with late payment and returned check fees for I am not able to reverse this unless I get my account up-to-date. This I totally disagree! I don't think anyone should pay for something they don't believe they should.

I did not recieve a bill in four months, but they still charged late fee. They didn't say they were in a lawsuit. I had to find an old bill, use different telephone numbers to find out who to find out about the bill. Then you have to talk to the automatic service. They didn't give any information. Since it was there fault in the billing, I thought that they would may cut on the bill if pay the total and if it was their fault in sending a bill. If there is a law-suit I sure like to be in it, or who should I contact about the bill.

Spiegel charge /now card processing center is bad news!!!

My closed spiegel account went to card processing center in july since then I have had nothing but trouble. They have upped my intrest to 22% to 27.5% I cannot talk to anyone and the number I call only takes over phone payments. I write letters constantly and have been charged late payments since july for no reason I have always paid on time They tell me I am 2 months late and I am not I have contacted the attorney general of NY and BBB I am now contacting an attorney and the FTC I reccommend anyone else do the same these people make criminals look good!!

I made a payment when I received the bill on the old speigal statement - two weeks later I have someone calling me from Card Holder Services saying that I was three months late on payments and they want me to do a check over the phone at that minute - I do not give our this information over the phone and told him so - I said send me something in the mail telling me what is going on with my speigal account now that hey had filed bankruptcy - who should I legally send payments to and instructions on what would change - what would not ect. It has been a nightmare since - I finally received an official looking bill, called and paid that - I was a good spiegal customer for over 15 years - now my credit limit is closed and I have been posted as having been late on numerous payments - there is no webside to go to to make payments anymore and I am just frustrated with the entire situation. If someone wants to file a class action suite - put my name down.

I OPENED THIS SPIEGEL ACCOUNT VIA MAIL.BEGAN USING IT, AND PAYING AT "EDDIE BOWER" DEPARTMENT STORE (ON TIME EVERY MONTH). WENT TO MAKE MY USUALL PAYMENT AND WAS TOLD (WITHOUT WARNING) THAT THEY NO LONGER ACCEPT PAYMENTS AND WOULD HAVE TO "MAIL" IT IN WITH NO ADDRESS INFO. I WAS ABLE TO FIND THE ADDRESS, BUT AT THAT POINT THE PAYMENT WAS LATE AND BEGAN TO GET CHARGED A $35 LATE FEE.NO MATTER WHEN I MAIL THIS PAYMENT NOW, I GET HIT WITH THE $35 FEE. MY CREDIT LIMIT WAS $1000 WHEN IT BEGAN, AND AFTER TWO YEARS OF PAYMENTS, MY BALANCE REMAINS @ $963. Spiegel Charge Payment problems

Balance of $148.00 has been paid in full and sent in registered mail a full two weeks before the payment was due - the "kind" folks at CMS decided to hold the payment for six days, and the account was paid in full, yet a $35.00 late fee was attached. I can honestly tell you, I will NOT stand for this anymore. After reading the reviews on this site and observing a large amount of other people experiencing similar (and even worse!) difficulties with this company, I am going to contact the Consumer Protection Agency, the Better Business Bureau, and my State Attorney General's Office. Also, I'd like to know if any of you have considered filing for a Class Action lawsuit against CMS. If you have, please let me know on here, I want to be part of it. If I lived in NY, I'd be paying this firm a personal visit, that's for sure. I wish you all positive results with this company.

I closed my FCNB Spiegel account approx. 5 years ago. It is still on my report tying up over $2000 in credit. I can not contact the company to ask them to close the account. I have never been so frustrated before! And when I contacted Spiegel's customer service, they said they didn't have any different numbers than what I had to reach this horrible company, which just adds to the frustration. Did this company just close up?

I had my Spiegel account consolidated with other accounts with Cambridge credit couseling corp. Even with "lowered interest rates", balances are constantly going up! I always pay the consolidators on time, I assume they pay on time (all other accounts I had combined have been paid in full!), so why does the card processing center statement say my account is past due? What should I do? I am paying through someone else to gain nothing but more debt and bad credit? I agree with EVERY OTHER REVIEWER: NO WAY TO CONTACT THESE THIEVES!!! Who can help?

My Spiegel Charge Account was closed with no warning...

My Spiegel Charge Account was closed with no warning, but right before that, I received a couple of checks for cash advances, which of course I used. I used both checks, and I deposited them into my checking account. One of the checks cleared, but the 2nd check bounced, which made other checks that I wrote bounce also and the money was taken out of my checking account, I called the 800# on the back of the card and was told what happened. My account was closed, and I was also told that I would be receivind a letter or a post card in the mail explaining what happened, but I never received anything in writing from them. I played phone tag for the first 2 months and I finally gave up, because I wasn't able to reach anyone that was willing to help me. About 3 months ago I went to the Eddie Bauer Store to pay for my monthly fee, but I was told that they no longer accept payments for Spiegel charge cards, that was on the due date for my payment, I almost always waited for the last day to pay, but I always payed on time. Ever since that day I have been getting late fees of $35.00 each month on my billing statement. *** I was wondering if anyone is taking legal action. *** I would truly appreciate any info. The Only way to contact these people that I know of is the following long distance phone #(516)576-8706. These people have, made me feel as if I did something wrong, I know that I didn't, but having an account that I cannot pay in full, and that has late fees adding up, and the finace charges also adding up is so frustating. I believe that it's not fair for me to continue paying for these ridiculous fees if I am not making any use of the card. I do not mind paying for the portion of the charges that I used, but all of the additional fees are a pain and shouldn't be charged anymore.

Help, just like everyone else, I've had nothing but problems with CMS. I've written them every month for the past 6 months, and still they have my account all messed up. I want this to end. Little did I know the credit card went out of business. The 1-800 call center could not provide me w/ any information for making payments. I noticed that a lot of people are having trouble trying to pay off their old Spiegel accounts. I'm one of them. I was looking at my bill earlier today, to see who I should write and complain to, as I had been slapped with another $35 late fee. I finally spotted the real culprits: a company called CMS. A little surfing told the story - a company called Cardworks, who has a division named CMS, had bought out the FCNB Spiegel accounts. Obviously Cardworks' CEO thinks all Spiegel customers are slackers: Spiegel Inc., which failed to sell its subprime private-label credit card portfolio, will have CardWorks LP take over servicing for the $2 billion in receivables on June 30, when Spiegel closes First Consumers National Bank, its card-issuing subsidiary. MBIA Insurance Corp. will act as the financial guarantor for the trustees of the loans. The job will be especially challenging because Spiegel has already cut off cardholders' access to their cards, said CardWorks Chairman and CEO (edited out). The loans will be bundled as securities, and bondholders will receive cash from the securities only as customers pay down their balances. (Edited) said bondholders may become more cautious about purchasing card-backed securities in the future, particularly if the loans are made to people with weak credit histories, the typical customers for retailers' cards (American Banker Online May 19) ...

I have posted a review a few months ago about this crock. I saw a review on here that said to contact the bbb and your states attorney general. I did both of those, I had racked up late fees every month since july, I sent them a letter disputing them and recieved a letter back saying they had no record of me having an account with them the very next day the payment for july finally was cleared by my bank, 3 weeks late, go figure. I then contacted the bbb again and my states attorney general she got back to me and said she would be contacting the national credit card foundation (or something) I also have recieved a letter from the bbb which they contacted the card processing center and did get all the late charges taken off, I did request from the bbb that my credit report be cleared of all negitive info concerning this, I have now received a letter from the card processing center saying that they have complied. I have noticed that I always get my bill every month at a different time and always have a different due date, this is something that you all may want to watch for so you dont keep getting screwed over. I have also contacted the bbb regarding the checks that fcnb sent out in april, I used those checks before the bankrupcy to find out over a month later my account was closed and 550.00 was taken out of my checking account to cover that check, I of course bounced checks all over town and the bank charged me for the returned check, I worked with my bank to clear everything up however I still feel it was a very shady practice on their part. I havent heard anything on this yet and this also was sent to my attorney general. I guess miracles happen only in hine sight. I wouldnt want to owe them any more then I already do. If you want to contact the bbb just go on line and file the complaint, to contact the attorney general, check for your state website and then there is a way to email them also. good luck!

I hadn't received a bill for several months, then all of a sudden I got a bill. Only to find numerous late fee charges at $35 a pop, extremely ridiculous finance charges and a new balance that no matter how much I pay will never go down. And the worst part is you're just making payments because FCNB no longer manages the accounts for Spiegel. So all accounts are closed. This is very unloyal to customers that have been faithful but now taking the grunt for a bankrupcy. This is really sad!

I HATE this card!! I have not gotten a statement in over three months and i keep getting charge for late fees. how in the hell am i suppose to know when to send the payment if i don't get a bill. I had to search the web for god knows how long just to find the right customer service number. This company is crazy. I just found that their contact numbers keep changing on the back of the statements. I get a lot of disconnected numbers and when you finally get the right number, they hang up on you. What kind of bull*%$# is that!? This compnay has definite customer relations issues. Either you cannot reach anyone, you are charged a late fee incorrectly or they take two weeks to post a payment!...and I live in WA so what is that about? I used to pay in the store and then they stopped taking those...guess that was too customer friendly for them...couldn't charge you a late fee if their associates did their jobs right.

They reported me to the credit bureau's for no reason but their own incompetent custumer service. I had moved and not recieved any bills from them in three months. It is amazing how all my other creditors have my new address. I did my part and changed my address through the post office.I have been trying to get a hold of them but to no avail. I sent a certiefied letter to their bethpage address. No answer! Finally got a call from them claiming I am 72 Days late. Thats bull '''' I have been trying to pay them for three months. Sent payment to the old address they were sent back to me. Just because they went bankrupt does not give them the right to bring down all their customers with them. How do I get this repaired, Who do i contact to report them. Their customer service is ran by a bunch of moron's.

This company is terrible to work with. They don't help the consumer at all. As a matter of fact they make it impossible for the consumer to get a hold of an actual person to discuss their account(at least from their account statements they send to you each month). All you can do is either write to them or e-mail them. If it was their account would they accept that. I consider them a horrible company to work with. I also reccommend that everyone stay away form getting one of their cards. I had to learn the hard way.

Ever since they cancelled my card I have been having nothing but problems. My balance was about 900.00 back in May I have made about 5 payments of 30.00 each and now my balance is 975.00 this is criminal. There has to be something we can do. I'm afraid to not pay because I feel I will just keep getting overcharged. Plus the 2week processing I'm hearing about does not make sense. They keep promising me statements and they never come. I have been fighting these folks for 3 months now. I mailed my payment on time to Oregan and thought everything was okie dokie until I got a statement from these Horrible People claiming that my payment was NOT received. In addition I received a $35 late fee. I was never notified of a different payment address. At least not until they posted my payment 14 days after it was mailed. If anyone is filing a class action, please post it. I got another statement today with another late fee and finanace charges added. I paid the debt off in full already and don't intend on paying the bogus charges. Today she claimed all persons were notified of address change. I think not. Card Processing Services Impossible to Deal With

After months without statements, I sent a large payment to payoff my balance on July 1st. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky people whose payment never got posted. When I finally got a statement and saw that they never credited my payment, I called the Card Processing Center. They told me that payment postings were being delayed because new account numbers were being assigned and that it would be a week or two. I've called several times since and they still have not posted my payment, but it was cashed. They had the nerve to send me a statement saying I'm 60 days delinquent. I'm in the middle of applying for a new mortgage and I have this hanging over my head. The representatives (except for one) have been rude and in fact have hung up on me. I've written letters, made calls, and no one will help me! Any advice out there?

This card administration is awful!

I received a call last week - August 29th and was asked to pay on my account over the phone. I was in the shower and agreed quickly. I even asked the guy to call back. Well he called back and I asked what the minimum due was (he never mentioned including the interest) $35.00. I agreed to pay over the phone. Today (9/3)I received another phone call from collections and they wanted me to pay an additional $55.00 with another $8.00 for phone charges. I have never requested this before, but I asked that the phone charges be waived and I would pay the $55.00. Card Services did not credit $8.00, but they would credit me the interest of $32.00. I agreed, but I wanted a complete breakdown on my account (purchases vs. interest). The Card Services rep referred me to another number 866-503-0872. I called this number to request the address and they informed me that Card Services had not credited my account and that I would need to request the credit in writting. I am livid! I will never be able to pay this card off. I want to something done about the way they are administering card services - the whole cycle, from payment processing (2 weeks is entirely too long) and then how the notice is delivered within the time limits for payment due.

I have had a FNCB care for the past 2 years, and when the company went belly up they really screwed me. I am still not receiving any bills and I Have been given 5 late fees, athat $35.00 X 5. I didn't even owe them that much money in the fist place. I have sent several letters and phone calls are a complete waiste of time. One word of advice, stay aways from store credit cards.

I've had this account for years. I happened to move right around the time the "transition" occurred. I've not received a bill or any information in two months, I don't know where to send a payment, and none of the phone numbers work. I've sent letters to every address I've seen, and some have been returned. I'm sure I'll see a late payment on my credit report, but they will get theirs in court if they do. In the meantime, does anyone have their address? Even if they don't respond, you should write to them and keep copies. There will be class action and odds are we need do nothing to benefit.

OH my god, I thought I was the only person going through this with them. I have done my darnest to pay the stupid thing off and wrote them letters and cc them to the Better Business bureau. Well i just got a statement saying what I owe is about &80.00 more than I thought and that is with them crediting me with 2 $35.00 late fees, So again I am writing letters to everyone and stating again that I am not paying any late fees. What had happened, was when I did 2 payments over the phone, they never went thru, due to their incompentcy, they tried to say they bounced, which they did not, so they tried to charge me late fees and over the limit fees. This has been going on for about 3-4 months. You can't talk to a live person ........Spiegel lost my trust and I was a customer for 20 yrs............

I realized that I had not paid on my monthly FCNB (Eddie Bauer/Spiegel)when I got a reminder with alate fee attached. I though----ooops, I screwed up--but gee, I don't remember getting a bill. Still, it was my mistake and it would cost me a late fee of $35.00 (?). I got a very nasty call from a colector @ it, and while I tried to expalin-yes, I did not send payment, but I didn't think I had gotten a bill. She very rudely said that none had been returned by the post office. I said that there was no reason why it should, I have lived at the same place for 7 years. I asked when the next bill would go out and she said Aug. 8. I said well, that's funny because I didn't get that one, either, then. She got really rude at this point and said that one did not get returned, either. I told her she was missing the POINT--- perhaps NEITHER went out, therefore at this point I was looking at $70.00 nin late fees. Where I thought I had originally just lost the first bill myself somewhere, now I was thinking "What a racket!" I told her I would be paying the entire thing off shortly --no problem.

After the demise of Spiegel's card and all I started noticing that the payment which used to have no problem being on time was now being assessed late charges.What kind of BS are they trying to pull here? I'm smelling a big ole lawsuit comprised of all of us cardholders who are now being screwed with higher rates,late charges,etc...I'm seriously thinking of getting my state attorney general involved with this. I've tried on countless occassions to get a hold of a live person to discuss my account and basically get a runaround recording telling me if I have a problem to write them.Well that goes unanswered as well. This is biggest abuse of any customer base I have ever had the misfortune of being associated with. It is true what goes around comes around.So stand by because your former customers have had enough and we're going to fight back and not let you screw us anymore. What a shame this is.Just goes to show you what greed and poor management will lead to.

my saga with first consumer

like everyone else, when first consumer went belly up, my account was collected by the card processing center of old bethpage, ny. i payed the entire amount due: $885.75, plus an extra $8.00 charge because i payed over the telephone; total paid $893.75. my next statement showed that 893.75 - 893.75 = $8.50. there was also a mystery $4.10 charge added on without explanation. the total due was $12.60. i paid $12.60 by check, mailed into card processing center. my new statement shows that i owe $8.50. $8.00 for processing that check and $.50 finance charge. so, at this rate, i will never be able to pay off and close this account. they will charge me $8.00 to write a check and $.50 finanace. bad, bad, bad way to do business.

I've fought with this company for 3 years. I cut my card up into the tinniest pieces and mailed it in three different envelopes. This company has no business doing business. Speigel should be ashamed of this for treating their customers like this and then leaving us to fend for ourselves. I really do understand how people go crazy enough to blow people like this up! I am very lucky that their not across the street, because I would be slammin rock behind bars. I hope they all wind up in jail. How is it we all have the same complaints about credit card processing center. I have notified Better Business Bureau, OCC about this company committing fraud against consumers. I call them everyday 516 576-8706 and speak to payment center and just yell at them. EVERYDAY. If they have the right to harass us then I am harassing them. Every answer from them is send a letter in writing. In addition, for customer service reps who write a in this message board. I guess you did not have a Spiegel charge. Cause you would be complaining too. I am thankful I believe in WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND.

Thanks for the posting about the address(es) and phone number for the Card Processing Center. When I got my last bill it had a late notice and too little information to do anything about it. I just figured that I didn't really mail in my payment on the date that I recorded it in Quicken. Now, I'll be watching this company like a hawk. I tried to pay this amount off by doing a balance transfer through my new Capitol One card. The cs rep from Capitol One told me that the name of card holder (Card Prpcessing Center) was invalid. I thought that I would wait for my next bill so that I could double check the information about who owned the account. Now, I am worried that I will not be gettign this bill and may be racking up some unecessary charges and spots on my good, but fragile, credit. Has anyone successfully transferred their outstanding balances to another card?

This is an update on me sending in my payment via certified mail. Not only was my payment posted promptly, but my last and only late charge was removed as well. It seems that they are now settled in NEW YORK, rather than Oregon. I take all the mixup was us in between the transition and exchange of business. I will probably send my next payment certified mail as well, but I would like to think I dont have to. I will keep looking on here for updates from others. I am giving them am extra point on the marker for doing the right thing, with me at least.

This new bank that bought Newport News are rip offs! I sent a payment over $900.00 dollars and they cashed it in and did not credit my account. In fact, they charged me a late fee and a high interest rate. I had closed my account and sent them the remaining balance. There was no excuse for that!!! I'm never late and i always pay my bills on time. I am definitely taking legal action if they don't credit m account of the amount i sent, the finance charges and the late fees they have no right charging me for. I did a phone pymt paying off my balance. Then 4 days later they charged me a late fee. 4 days after that the pymt posted. Now I have more late fees & interest accumulating. I sent my last payment (Spiegel) to FCNB on 6/30/03...more likely, they received it after 3 or 4 days. Issue: My account with the credit card company that took over is PAST DUE...this credit was never posted to it and is very clear that FCNB kept this money (190.00). I been calling the new card processing center, but they keep telling me that there is nothing they can do...just wait. In mean time, my account is past due and my credit messed up!!!!!!!

I also experienced what everyone is complaining about yesterday. I got a bill in the mail from an unknown company with a 35.00 late fee from Speigel's saying they never received my payment. I have my payment set up with my online banking to release it a certain time of month. Imagine my surprise when I received this. I looked for a telephone number for customer service and the only one available was automated. I immediately wrote a letter disputing this late fee. I am currently in the middle of applying for a mortgage and this something I do not need on my credit report now. I will be contacting the attorney general's office in my state for follow up.

I sent my lat payment certified mail the DAY I got my bill, which was August 1st. My due date is on August 16th. I hope now that they are settled in New York, maybe I wont have the same problems with my payment being counted late. I am awaiting my little green card to come back signed. I pay all my bills on time. It has taken FCNB over twenty one days to process my payment. It's the third time! Late fees that shouldnt be. No customer service available. No response to regestered letters, and all I want to do is close my account. This is the worst case of poor customer service that I have ever experienced. I am taking legal action... can you say class action? I know that my pain and suffering are worth some of their profits.

I the same am having the same problem with the CS. I called the number on the back of the bill to contact FCNB, it gave me a 516 number and it is always busy. All I needed to do was change my address... anyways...eneryone seems to be having the same problems over and pver. Late charges, high APR's. Finally one of the wonderful people from CS called me and I was able to talk to them about the account... Unfortunately, they are only there to collect. I couldn't even get in touch with a supervisor. Anyways, has anyone else filed a complaint, and if yes, where. Also, is it possible to file a class action suit against the former company. Although the rep informed me they only took over the accounts 2 weeks ago? Where do we go, what do we do? All I hear when I call is "Yada, Yada, Yada...same stuff, different operator"

I make 2 payments per months on cresit cards. Never late. So how is it that I'm accumulating late fees. CS no help at all. Am told "oh, it will be removed once the payments tranfer to the right location". WHAT IS THAT?? I've even started getting collection calls this past week. BUT we can't contact the card processing center (and neither can CS). All has to be done via snail mail. Is this a joke? What century is Spiegel stuck in? Right now I'm awaiting a return call from a supervisor at CS. She was unavailable to take my call, but I'm told will call me within an hour. This after the rep I was talking to disconnected me when I said I'd be ceasing my association from Spiegel. I am so done with this company. Too many others to choose from. At this rate they'll be in Chapter 13 in a hurry. They really need to bone up on their CS skills. It's customers that make or break an operation like this. Spread the word.

I never really review my monthly bill, as I don't usually charge very much. I did notice last month that my bill for some reason wasn't going down as it should be with the payments I have been making. Well, to my SURPRISE I looked at my statement, every month they are charging me a late fee because my payment isn't getting processed until at least 14 days after I have mailed it. I was NOT notified that I would no longer be able to use my card and just noticed my available balance was $0.00. I think Spiegel should have had an agreement with the new bank that the loyal customers be issued a new card without the hassle of re-applying.... it just would have been good business practice, that's all. Please the ones who have kept you in business all these years and omit the "dead beats".

I was one of those who needed to get credit and fcnb gave it to me when no one else would, I have proven myself to them over the last 8 yrs and have never been late with a payment. I was having finanical problems, (bills still on time) and recieved checks in the mail to use I didnt use them right away and then I needed to, I called and spoke to a rep who said it would be fine to use, I deposted the next day 550.00 2 weeks later I heard they were going bankrup, I called and listened to my account info which said I had a purchase of 550.00 on my account I did recieve a post card saying that those checks were going to be canceled as so was my account by march 10th and that if you used a check before that you were ok, mine was deposited march 8th 3 more weeks later i recieved a letter from my bank with the check i deposited that said my account was closed and they were pulling that money out of my checking I didnt have enough in checking to cover the bills i have paid on top of 550 dollars. I called fcnb they refused to help in anyway and were very very rude, how can people be that way with someone bawling on the other end? I bounced checks and they refused to pay the nsf fees and the return fees from my bank, althought if i were ever late?? of course i would be charged, well this gave me lifes lesson fine but now i mailed my last months payment on time to the statement i had and now i get a bill to send a double payment to someone i never heard of are they insaine? just found out the check finally cleared 3 weeks after the fact and I now have a late fee, I contacted the bbb already and they said that fcnb closed no longer in buisness as of june 20th why didnt they let any of us know? I really dont know what else i can do for this buisness but bend over!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Straight Story

People, you have really got your facts wrong. Yes, Spiegel has filed for chapter 11. But, this is not bankrupt, this is protection from bankruptcy. There were a lot of people who were defaulting on their payment with FCNB as a lot of the cardholders were people with bad credit. This card helped many re-establish credit, however even more were, lets face it, dead-beats. This is one of the reasons why Spiegel is in the situation it is in. It's simple, Spiegel was paying for merchandise, sending it to customers, and not getting paid for a large chunk of it. Spiegel was in a very precarious positon, so they filed. And, yes they have a new provider and yes you do have to reapply. It is a different bank handling the accounts now and the account is seperate from FCNB. Most FCNB cardholders are being approved for the new accounts. If you were in good standing with FCNB, the chances are better. Spiegel is trying to not make the same mistake as before. As for the late fees with FCNB, call Spiegel Customer Service...they can do something. It's not all doom and gloom.

i have always sent out my automatic payments early,and lats month was no different. yesterday i got a bill with a late fee on it.how can the payment that normally gets to them in three days now take almost a month to get to them. i also noticed that on the new bill it goes to a different company with a new account # and a new billing address. aren't they letting anyone know when they change this stuff. all i want to do is get it paid off. how can i if they are making these false late fees? i was happy with the card and was sad to see they had finacial problems but i am not rich enough to pull your butts out of the frying pan. some one has to help us!!!

I, like so many of you, have had nothing but trouble since Speigel went bankrupt. I've gotten notices that my payments have been late though I have paid days ahead of time. Last month I sent my payment in 10 days early (due date was the 28th) and it wasn't submitted to my bank until 7/9. I just got notice that I was late yet again. I've decided that I'm not going to pay the late charges and let the cards "fall where they may". The number that was given is never "not busy" and when you finally do get through, there is no option to talk to a "real" person. Historically, my bill would be due on the 28th of each month and I have yet to receive an acutal bill which will mean another late charge I'm sure! I've thought about paying the whole thing off; but, after reading some letters from people who have done this and are still having trouble, I've decided against doing this as well. I have, however, contacted the Attorney General's office in my state and hopefully this mess can be taken care of soon.

I always send my payment in on time, but they take forever processing it, making me look as if my payments are late. I don't appreciate it, and I will seek an attorney's advice. I got hold of CS today to pay off card in full. Found out everyone was late because they switched addresses after they sent out last statement. Even though they admit it's their fault, they say we have to write in and ask for it to be removed. THEN we have to write in to get the interest charged for the errant late fee!!! I wanted to get away from them and I can't! You have to send written notice to Card Processing Center, PO BOX 9204, Old Bethpage, NY 11804 and they won't give out the phone number. I have a few things I would like to say after reading these reviews. First off,Spiegel has not gone bankrupt, FCNB went bankrupt. Get your facts straight before you freak out. Second of all, there is no FCNB number to call because there is no FCNB!! It's kind of hard to phone a company that isn't there. Yes, I realize that there was little notice, but there was little notice to Spiegel as well. One day they were told that the FCNB cards were no longer being accepted. What FCNB is doing is not Spiegel's fault, they are just as much a victim. I think it is terrible that people are calling Spiegel and flipping out on them for something that they had no control over! Shame on all of you, obviously, everyone now knows what fairweather friends you all are.

I have always paid my spiegel charge early and on time. I have never missed a payment. I recently sent in my payment as usual, which was never late, but after reading this board, I figured that it was probably going to be late this time. Sure enough I checked today and it was. There is no way to talk to anyone in person. I sort of feel like I am being blackballed. It seems that our payments are intentionally being held back and made late. Perhaps I should start sending my payments in by certified mail? Surely somthing is about to go down on what is taking place here. Surely such practices aren't legal. I just want to pay them off what I owe as agreed. I don't need to be cheated for late payment fees and forced into a maximum interest rate.

My bills have always been paid on time. Well just this month I get a late notice from Spiegel Charge on my FCNB balance. My bill was received and paid to FCNB (on time).I never received anything from Spiegel Charge until this notice. If anyone has this same problem send Spiegel Charge and your attorney general's a letter just make sure you get a receipt from post office. If enough of us do this they will investigate this company. We don't deserve this treatment they are just rip-off artists without the mask!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never been so digusted with a company as I am with this one. They do not Believe in Customer Service. They added the insurance plan on to my account without my permission and when I asked for proof that I signed accepting it they were not able to furnish it. They changed the billing address and my account number and they did not inform me and now they have disconnected the toll free number and when you call the longdistance you can only hear automated information. You have to write them if you have a question.

I have been ripped off by Spiegel Charge!

Since Spiegel went bankrupt, I am wondering if a legit company is handling the accounts. I ALWAYS pay my bills the day they come in the mail. 3 months ago, I noticed I was getting a $35 late fee...AND the interest shot up to almost 23%!!!! tried calling, could not reach anyone. I wrote a letter... no answer. Today I got my bill (July 14) and it was dated July 1. Again another late charge. I have perfect credit, thank goodness, they haven't reported me as late. Today I paid off the card with a 4% card with MBNA and I will never shop with Spiegel or any partners again. I am sure they will charge me another late fee next month on the late fee they are going to charge me this month... even with a zero balance. I will do research and see if I can take these crooks to small claims court to recover my "late" fees. I know times are tough for comoanies, but stealing from your customers is not the way out!

I work for the Spiegel Group as a CSR at a call center and I feel the need to point out our side of the story. We were not given warning that the FCNB cards we going to be pulled and on Tuesday March 11, most of us were in the middle of taking orders and our computers froze not letting us continue with the order. No one on the floor knew what was going on and when I went to find a supervisor to find out what was going on, there was none to be found. Why? They were in a meeting finding out about this at the same time we were. Imagine trying to tell a customer she has $1000 to spend and 30 sec. later her account is closed. I felt like an a$$. Since Mar. 11, it has been next to impossible for us to get answers about the FCNB cards. I believe that what Spiegel/Eddie Bauer/Newport News and FCNB was despicable and sneaky and under-handed. I would be peeved if this happened to me as well. But please, when you call, try to understand our situation. We can only tell what we know, and honestly that is not much. I have made several complaints to supervisors about this, even pointing out the fact that if there is someone out there to call customers looking for money, there has to be a number to call. We try to help you the best to the best of abilities, and of course there are cranky empolees here...be it they are having a bad day, or the fact they get the same story everyday and are helpless or customers get personal and start calling us names, is it any wonder we get cranky. All I am asking is that you listen when we talk, and let us explain, we can do a few things to help you. PS..the ratings I gave are just to get this posted, i have never had a spiegel card

Had the card for over 6 years, always paid more than due, always early yet card was cancelled. Unlike many on this board, I didn't receive a notice until two weeks after it had been cancelled. All questions were answered with double talk. No new card offered, now can't even get the catalog but they have no trouble sending bills and email ads.

I tried to change my address with FCNB/Spiegel for 8 months. Every month, I would mail off a payment with a request for change of address, and every month, I would get nothing. I tried calling, I got no response/help. Finally, in September of 2002, I tried to call to pay my bill by phone, thinking that way, someone would talk to me. Well, they did. They informed me that they had closed my account and transfered it to a collection agency! When I asked why, they replied that it was because my payment was late the previous month. I explained that I didn't know WHEN my payment was due, because I hadn't received a statement for 8 months. They said there was nothing they could do. So, I called the collection agency and paid the bill in full immediately to keep my credit rating from suffering because of THEIR incompetence. FOUR MONTHS LATER, FCNB/Spiegel began charging my old account with a fraudulent balance, interest and fees. I couldn't believe it! The account had been closed and paid in full to a collection agency, and now, I suddenly owed $500.00! I have the cancelled check from my bank and a letter from the agency stating the account was settled and paid in full, but I can't get anyone to talk to me. Now, my credit report has this horrible item, which has falsely been reported and claims that I am in arrears for over 150 days! It is unbelievable. I'm at a loss. I have no idea what to do. I can't get anyone to talk to me. It's just awful. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any advice? This can't be legal.

I understand if a company isn't doing good and has to file chapter 11 or 13. But I don't understand the treatment of their loyal customers. With no ontice I could no longer use my card - with no notice my rate went up- with no notice my late fee went up. Is this how they plan to pay off their bills by taking all their cutomers money. I have delt with a lot of companies in the past - but nothing like this. I cannot wait to pay this card off and have nothing more to do with this company. Maybe by making all their customers poor they will be able to go back into business. Too bad I won't be able to shop with them. My wife made the huge mistake of acquiring a Spiegel card a few years ago. Within a few months, the interest rate was up to 27.9 percent. ONE late payment. The merchandise was OK, but not worth nearly what they charged. Attempts to get the rate reduced were fruitless. Attempts to contact customer service or to add me as a user/contact person were also fruitless. Now that they are in bankruptcy, I think I will discontinue making payments until they cut our interest rate down and stop charging exorbitant late and overlimit fees. My attorney told me to stop paying for a few months, then see what kind of deal they will make to get at least some of the money back. Sort of a debt negotiation tactic. I personally am happy to see Spiegel declare bankruptcy and wish FCNB and its decision-makers all the worst, including possible criminal prosecution, unending civil litigation and extreme personal strife (divorce, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse). Maybe then they will come down from their ivory towers long enough to see what havoc they have wrought on the credit world.

After the death of my husband I found out that he had a FCNB card and that I had to pay it off. I called customer service about this account and they could care less and were very rude to me. But they did care about raising my interest rate up to 22.60%. I will sure remember these folks when I get back on my feet.

Shame shame shame on everyone one of you for be so selfish. You all want something for nothing. Maybe thats why you had a credit card with fcnb because they gave credit to people who had bad credit. ITS CALLED PAY YOUR BILL BY THE DUE DATE and you wont get late fees, or you apr wont go up...And if you do pay it late suck it up and take responsibilty for you being late. You never know how stupied people really are until you work for a call center. Just a word of advise dont act stupied and you wont be treated like a dumb*&% when you call. By the way if you were at all smart you would know that it was nothing that FCNB did it was Spiegal that shut them down because they filed bankruptcy not fcnb.

FCNB Ruined My Credit!!!

After moving, I notified FCNB of my new address in writing. They erronously recorded the address wrong and as a result, no statement was mailed to my correct address for almost 6 months, even after many many calls to correct the problem. With no statement to rely upon, my payments were inevitably a few days late. After calling them time and time again, the address correction was never made for another 3 months. I finally paid it off last month, but FCNB reported the past dues to the credit bureau and now my credit is ruined. This is unfair, especially when this was due to FCNB Bank error!! They were rude, showed no compassion, and basically I have no recourse. My payoff has never been acknowledged on a statement and I am unable to reach anyone by telephone.

Recently, as most are aware, Speigel and FCNB severed their business relationship. As a consumer, the misfortune was past to me. I was notified after the fact they dissolved their partnership at an Eddie Bauer store when trying to make a payment on my charge card by a very discourteous store clerk. Needless to say, since that misadventure, my account is in termoil. There are no customer service reps to talk to now, all communications are handled thru correspondence. I have had mutilple late fees charged to my account because of their inability to post payments thru their phone payment system. Now, that appears to be disabled. I am very disgruntled. To all who hold accounts with this company, join me in filing a complaint with the attorney general. Perhaps they may assist us in some way to help prevent this corrupt company from passing their misfortune on the consumer

I have had my Spiegel card for over six years. I have always paid on time and enjoyed the multiple retailers that accepted the card. Several weeks ago I received a letter stating that all spending limits have been suspended. Days after that, I received another letter stating the late charges would increase. I talked to FCNB and they stated that Spiegel was filing bankruptcy and there was nothing they could do. I questioned about high finance charges, fees, etc. and they said their is nothing they could do. I asked about future plans for FCNB and again was told don't know. My last question was what FCNB was doing to help patrons pay off their balances since they couldn't use the card, and had no future plans of using it. Well, I think it's ridiculous that FCNB doesn't know what is going on within their company and really had an attitude like they didn't care. They were not willing to make any offers to keep customers or assist in any way.

I am a consumer who has experienced the unprofessional,dishonest,dis-service provided by FCNB. I can say that I wonder how FCNB feels now that they have filed Bankruptcy or seem to be experiencing financial difficulty. It speaks volumes for how they handled their business or pay their bills. They had no regards for their customers by suddenly cancelling all cards.Can we now cancel all payments?( Makes you smirk Huh) I have paid the Jerks off 2 cards and am working on the third. It feels good to be rid of the parasites. I hope that others are able to recover from their financial or other setbacks. I can't wait to here what happens to this company. They did mamny consumers disjustice and unfairly penalized those consumers who may have just had a difficulty time short term. I have had this spiegel card for two years and I have not really had any problems except for the quality of the merchandise. They were real good with the lines of credit that they extended but the apr rate was high and the late fees are high also. There was one time that my payment was late and i did not complain about the fee but there was one time when it was not late and they tried to stick me with a fee. I finally got my point across that I was not going to pay a late fee.........lets say that they were real good about reversing the charge. I personally did not like this card. It just was not for me.

When I first received this charge I was excited about all the fine shopping I could do. Well you really need to read the fine print because one late payment and your screwed, interest rate 27.60%, well no one could pay off their bill with that. I took at loan at 5% and paid off my card and will NEVER use it again. The customer service representatives need the basic 101 class on how to deal with the consumer. They are more than rude, only want to take orders and not solve the problems a client may have. The return policy is disgusting, returning an item and not receiving credit for almost two months but still accuring that wonderful 27.60% interest on an item I no longer have in my possession. In any business the person answering the phone leaves an impression on the client calling, my impression of your company, well I couldn't write it, it's too nasty....

I've had a Spiegal card 1997. My payment has never...NEVER!! been late. I haven't used it this year because times are tough and I didn't want to get into any debt until business got better. A few days ago I got a notice that fees were going up, and today I get a letter that I WAS DUMPED. Reason? Inactivity. When I went on this site, I was stunned to see all the complaints against a company that pretends to be so pro Americana. I think we were all cancelled because FCNB doesn't make money from people who pay their bills in full and on time. Apparently Big Business is not interested in those of us who take our finances seriously enough to avoid high interest rates and late fees. I am sick to death of this whole credit system. We are guilty until proven innocent, and sometimes that proof isn't enough to clear the record in a timely manner if ever. My financial status is held in the hands of any dummy who wants to say I didn't pay a bill. As we've all come to know, it's next to impossible to get that stuff off the record.

I have worked at FCNB for almost 3 years, in customer service, credit and collections. I get complaints about our customer service, spiegel's merchandice and the return policy. When you purchase an item and decide to return it to a merchant, why would the shipping and handling be credited in full???? People take responsibility for your finances. You can make the payments on time, you can keep yourself within the credit line, you can read the terms and agreements, you can only charge items that you can pay off when the statement is recieved. Don't pay on time = late fee. Deal with it. I understand that times are tough all over. FCNB is located in Oregon which at one time had the highest unemployment rate in the country. People have been laid off from the bank as well. Read you statements and send your payments off with PLENTY of time to be recieved and posted.

I have had my card with FCNB for over 6 years and usually charge about $300 a year on it. They have steadily raised my limit from $2000 to $7000 since I have had it. I had paid it off back in June of this year. I was shocked to get a letter from them a few weeks ago telling me they were cancelling my card because of inactivity, and because they pulled my credit report and I was reporting derogatory credit. I immediately got my credit report, and the only bad thing on there was a $25 collection that had been paid in 1995 and was supposed to of been removed from my report, since it was my sons medical bill and he was 21 at the time. I enjoyed having this card to shop at Eddie Bauer and Newport News. But if that is how they treat decent customers, they can take the card and shove it!! Who needs them.

I never had a problem until I had a return due to poor quality, it took forever to credit. I asked several questions to ensure my payments would be taken care of and got incorrect info. After speaking several times with several people they hung up on me, even I wanted to change my address. Horrible people to deal with. Even though it was their error they would not even be nice at resolving the problem.

Spiegel Stole $242 from me

I ordered a coat from Spiegel with a free shipping/handling special and when I received it, it was so inferior (like dollar store)to what was pictured, I returned it, paying my own postage. Thinking since I returned the item and that shipping and handling was free I discarded all Spiegel mail as advertisments. Much to my dismay, I discovered that Spiegel through First National Bank had put on my credit report that I owed them $242 and not only that but that it was considered a bad debt and had went in collections and will stay there for 7 years. I was told by customer service that it was an $8 shipping and handling fee that had got up to $242. The word needs to be put out that Spiegel is no longer a company that you can trust. They are desperate, and their merchandise is inferior, and nothing like it used to be years ago. They need to be closed down.

If you occasionally make a payment a few days late, this is not the card for you. If your payment is ONE DAY LATE you will be charged a late fee of $29.00 (balance less than $200.00) or $35.00 (balance greater than $200.00). Your prior payment record with them makes no difference. The card is issued by First Consumers National Bank (FCNB) which is owned by Spiegel. Customer service is unhelpful at best; rude and surly at worst. Think long and hard before applying for this card.

Recently I was told that my credit card was purged due to inactivity. I have been a Speigel caredit card holder since the 80's. I usually use this card at least yearly if not more often. I am apalled that my account was purged without at a minuim courtesy of contacting me prior to let me know that this would be occuring. I would have run out and made a purchase had I known as this. I keep very few credit cards but this is one I have had for many years and have enjoyed having it. I am really disappointed that I was treated in this manner. My account is in good standing or should I say was. Why did this happen without notification?

They mistakenly charged me a late fee, when I had indeed paid on time. I wrote to them and disputed that charge, but paid the card off in the meantime (less the late fee). They continue to rack up late fees and charges, and yet have never ever answered my dispute letter. This has been going on for almost a year, and they have recieved 8-10 letters from me about it, and never have answered.

I love the fact that I could charge Eddie Bauer purchases with my Spiegel charge. About a year and a half ago, I lost my job with millions of people that year. Even though I was never late with a payment, and always paid more than the minimum due, today I received notification that they closed my account. When I called customer service, I was told they closed the account because of inactivity. I hadn't been using the card because I was trying to pay the total down!!! Then she said they looked at my credit report and decided to dump me. True, I was late on some payments with other bills because while I was without a job, I didn't have the money. However, I ALWAYS paid my bills as soon as I did have the money. I took a store clerks job while I was looking for a comparable job to the one I lost just so I could continue to pay bills. But they don't look at that. They see me as a deadbeat, not as one of millions of people who fell on hard times and are trying to build themselves back up. They disgust me. I hope they choke on the checks I send to pay off that stupid card. I will never, ever buy a single thing from Eddie Bauer, Spiegel, Crate and Barrel or Newport News. Companies like them are what so wrong with America - instead of working with you, they just want to kick you in the teeth.

Spiegel credit card put me in collection process w/ a company called I.S. Systems. I paid the balance in full on January 24,2000. I was trying to get preapproved for a mortgage today September 9, 2002. MY CREDIT REPORT SHOW'S A BALANCE DUE 2538.54 THE ORIGINAL AMOUNT OWED TO THEM THEY NEVER REPORTED TO THE CREDIT AGENCIES THAT THIS DEBT WAS PAID OFF almost three years ago. retuned and item for credit--Spiegel&#'s bills me for the item 3 weeks after I returned it--I call spiegel&#'s and explain that I returned item--Spiegels said ok don&#'t worry about it. Four days pass --consumers bank calls --very rude person tells me that they are going to tack on another late charge of $35 ( they already tack on late charge of $29) Spiegels slowness in crediting my accout hass now ran my orininal purchase of $44 to $84.04. I explain to Consumers bank that I returned the Item and that my balace should be zero. Consumers bank says we know nothing about conversation with Spiegel but if this not payed now we are adding on a late charge of $35. price of Item purchase and returned has now went to$118.04. My advice is don&#'t do business with Spiegel&#'s or Consumers Bank

This card is overall pretty average. My biggest issue with this card is that a payment is made and a new statment is promptly issued. It becomes confusing at times because in spite of double payments, the statement will still show a minimum payment due with a different due date. This card, like any other card, is perfect for someone who is going to pay the balance in full each month. If you carry a balance, the finance charges add up quickly. Overall, an average card with good customer service.

Beware of FNCB!!!! Do not get a credit card from them. I had my Spiegel account for 17 years and I have not used it for the last 3. All I had charged is high finances charges and at outrageous late fee charge of $35.00 !!! if your payment is three days late they charge $35.00. The bill arrive two days before the payment is due. My balance has not lower in three years and I request a financial hardship assistance to lower my interest rate (currently 24.99%) and they say no!. Most of the credit cards company will work with you but not FCNB. Stay away from them!!!

FCNB placed a telephone call to my home,the rep that I was talking with was very pleasant, I was told that my payment had been declined by my bank, I had done a check by phone, I asked the rep what account number they had on file, when she began to say something the phone was taken away from her and what appeared to be on the line was a supervisor, (very Rude) She said that it was not necessary for them to give me my account number, and that if I did not give a correct number the bank would no longer hold my acct. I proceeded to make another payment with the rude woman, I asked her for the acct number that I gave them the first time and she avoided the question. This woman was rude and has no business being in customer service, let alone being a supervisor. Good Luck TO Anyone Who Has TO Deal With These Incompetint REPS!

FCNB's lack of professionalism and due diligence

I (personally) have never had a problem with the sales reps who gladly take phone orders for Spiegel. However, neither did the people who obtained by credit card number and charged some $600 in fradulent charges on my account. After notifying everyone involved with this organization (at least 8 times), last night I received a phone call from a Ms. Michelle D. of FCNB collections who proceeded to berate and insult me rather than begin to hear that the account was in dispute. I have never been subjected to such sarcasm and lack of professionalism as I incurred last night. Needless to say, I am livid and will take any and all steps necessary to make it known to any potential customer of FCNB that their mottos of "First with Consumers" and "Embrace ethics, integrity and responsibility" flies in the face of other organizations that run their business in a professional manner. As for "Michelle", I certainly hope you read this and I hope that my other contacts with your company make it clear to you that it was me that elected to call you on the carpet for the phone call you placed to my home last night. I hope that my efforts help guide your way to the unemployment line. "Did I write this slow enough for you?" I DO NOT recommend this card to any consumer as your rights are not protected in any manner as far as FCNB is concerned.

Stay away from FCNB !!!! They run the business no different than a loan shark would!!! I am on the east coast and payments are to be mailed to the west coast.... I have (for the last year) received my statement about 3-5 days before the payment is due.. If I mailed out the payment the day I received the statement.. It was.. A late payment !! If I mailed it a week or two before I received the statement then it amazingly took 2-3 weeks for that payment to get to them!!?? No matter when I mailed the payment it NEVER was on time.. mean while through all of this.. I have accumulated more than $500.00 in late fees.. because no matter when the payment is mailed, They post it to your account when they see fit.. as of today..I have closed the account and I am sending a Check via UPS overnight!!! Then there will be a signature as well as a date and time signed for... I just know I will receive that one last statement with a late fee on it!!! HAHA forget it FCNB!! you have gotten all the blood you are gonna get from this person!!!!! I will tell EVERYONE!!!, how shady your business is!! It should have been FCNB to fall not ENRON !!! They make ENRON look like the pure innocent virgins!

I have never had a problem with Spiegel's, however, they really need to review FNCB as their card holder. Spiegel seems too good to have a company like FCNB 'RAPING' their customers like they do. Interest rates are outrageous and the people are the rudest in all of my experiences. Mrs. Flower's is the only person that treated me with some semblance of dignity. Who do these people think they are? GOD? The wait on the telephone is like an eternity, the times I have called it is almost impossible to get a hold of anyone, and I even got rolled over to a company in England because their number was busy. What's this about? SPIEGEL..... CHANGE THE BANK THAT HOLDS YOUR CARD. THAT IS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP CUSTOMERS LIKE ME. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!

I had this account for about 10 years, but it only took one phone call to customer service to decide that I no longer wanted the account. The service representative was so rude, argued with me and then actually hung up on me. I subsequently closed the account out. I will never again use an FCNB credit card, nor will I ever shop at Speigel or Eddie Bauer again. At 23% interest I would expect better service. I paid for it!!!!

I'm shocked to read some of the reviews about FCNB. My experience with this has been very positive over the last five years. I began with the Spiegel, afetr a year of paying on time, they offered a secured Visa with 300% of my deposit. I'd send payment about a week prior to the due date and it was always credited within 10 days, I never had to pay a late fee. The account was reviewed and the limit increased regularly, typically by $100 each time. They also offered more credit for additional deposits, the only down-side is that checks sent for credit increase WERE held for 10 days, but money orders sent for a credit increase was credited immediately. Since such practices are standard within the industry, I don't think its fair to say that its a negative against FCNB. I was alo offered an unsecured card, but since I didn't want to get in over my head, I declined it. Also, their WEBSITE IS NOW UP AND RUNNING. It was of great assistance to me recently because yesterday I discovered an unauthorized charge on my account that posted on 12/17, my bill isn't due for another 2 weeks, so I can now dispute the charge in a timely matter. I'd recommend this card to anyone looking for a reputable credit card who doesn't take advantage of consumers who've had credit problems in the past. Also, if you go over limit or your payment is past due, they will allow you to pay by check via telephone without the usual fee for using that convenience. Overall, an excellent CC for those who'd had credit problems in the past.

I had this card for about 2 years and was good about payments etc. Suddenly I didn't receive a bill one month and when I called to discuss it they would not talk to me. Apparently I could not verify my address even though I could everything else. After numerous phone calls meanwhile they are charging late fees and reporting me as late. I decided to try reporting the card stolen. Well I still could not verify my address. So that didn't work. Finally after 3 months someone took pity on me and spoke to me about my account. Apparently they had my address as somewhere in Oregon. I finally started receiving bills again. And the funny part is if you look on my credit report there I am leaving in Oregon for 3 months before returning home. These guys are a joke. I paid off my card and closed it.

Why I am dissatisfied

I have been working with Consumer Credit Counseling to take care of my debt to this card. Do to the fact that FCNB stopped sending me statements I and CCCS had no idea that my account was paid off. They now owe me $55.00. I have tried to get them to send this money to me and have now called again. If I owed them money I would have to pay interest. Why isn't the company paying me interest??They have had my money for more than 90 days. Also, I was treated rudely by "Maggie" at FCNB. When I asked why it was taking so long to get my $ she stated that it was because the account was old. WELL I STILL GOT MY ACCOUNT PAID. I would like to have my $$$$.

I noticed repeated credit increases on this card. Not good for a compulsive spender. Anyway, it finally got up to $3,000. So, I phoned to say I noticed the increases but not a decrease with the interest. I was told I had to request that. They do not do it automatically. I did. And they turned me down. So, I did the proper thing and decreased my credit. I'm glad I did. Because when I pay my bill of $80.00, maybe half of that is applied to my principle. I'll be glad when that's over.

Mistreated!!!!

To whom it may concern, My name is Rebecca and I have an account with FCNB and have been with them for years! The past 4 months my baby has been sick and importunely I was unable to make payments until NOW! I understand that I am behind and I'm not asking for special treatment - just RESPECT! I have played phone tag with a couple of different people with FCNB. I am really hard to get a hold of right now because I have picked up a SECOND job to help make all of my payments to everyone. Before I went to work today (Monday, July 30th, 2001) I finely got someone I can talk to and make a payment to as well. When I explained my situation ... Well when I tried to explain I was RUDELY cut off and was told I owe today and that it is my responsibility. I understand that but I was trying to make a payment!. When I was finally heard that I would like to make a payment over the phone she (fcnb rep) said it wasn't enough. I explained to her that this is all I can do today but I could schedule a payment for the 20th of Aug., when I get paid again. She told me that I could just not pay another bill ... that way you (fcnb) could get more money. When she told me that they (fcnb) couldn't except the payment I told her fine then I would give the $100.00 to one of the other creditors ... especially since they understood the situation and I owe them much more then you (fcnb). I am wanting to work with fcnb to arrange payments to get me caught back up. Never once have I thought of not taking care of MY responsibilities. My responsibilities these past 4 months have been my little girl. Now that she is doing better my creditors are next. I am extremely offended on how I was treated by the fcnb collectors and the supervises - Yes I asked to talk to someone else and she was even RUDER!!!!! I hope someone reads this and explains to the people that work for FCNB that it is offensive, improper, and UNACCEPTABLE for people to talk or yell at another individual - especially when I was the one that called and wanted to give them a payment! bad delivery

I have had two bad problems with Spiegel. I ordered a wooden bench and chair from them. My bill promptley arrived but my order did not. After 3 weeks, I called and was told that I refused to accept the package. When I asked if they had a signature on file indicating I did indeed deny the acceptance. I was told no, but it could have only been me. I re-ordered. Same thing happened. They verified my address and it was correct but again, I was told I denied it. THe third time I had it sent to my friend's office. I was told they denied it. Finally, I was told the item was no longer in stock. I then had to write the company and have items removed from my account. A second letter was needed to remove the shipping charges. I did receive a post-card in response to my complaint letter (documenting names and times of people dealt with). A gift certificate would have been more appropriate. I lost valuable time on my numerous phone calls, which required having to call shipping companies myself. My next problem was my change of address. I did not receive my statement after I moved. When I called the next month, I told them I sent in a check but I didn't know when it was due or if I had sent my payment in the correct amount. I was told not to worry about it , they took my new info over the phone and said everything would be fine. 2 days later I received a collection call for being over 30 days late. I told them I had just spoken to a rep 2 days prior and was assured everything would be ok. 2 weeks later my payment had not yet been posted and I received a notice that my credit limit was reduced and late fees were applied (they lowered it by 1,000 brining me within over the limit fee range). In march I spoke with very good customer rep, who informed me that even though I mailed my change of address in in January and geve it over the phone twice in Feb. my account did not refelect a change of address. I ended up with a late over 30 days mark on my credit report. I sent in a complaint letter and promptly, the action was reversed, my late fees and over the limit fee hadd been credited to my account and a very nice personal letter was received from Speigel. I do not see any benefit from having any store specific cards. Try a lower rate VISA.

I needed to rebuild my credit, I got the offer from spiegel and started from there. They have been very good to me.I love all the catalogs they send me, and the statements are easy to read. It is hard from me to believe that the people who have written the statements have had that kind of hassle. I love my Spiegel!

Wrecking credit

FCNB has terrible customer service and when an error on my credit report appeared, there agents were unhelpful in resolving the situation. I wound up having to contact the President and CEO of the compnay, Greg Aube, to get my credit report cleared. I should not have had to call him but that was the only way to get my comcerns properly addressed. FCNB offers in-store cards for Eddie Bauer, Spiegel, Newport News,and Clifford and Wills. I'd be wary ever accepting anything through them ever again.

Since aquiring my Spiegel card everything I have purchased from them has broken or been short-lived. The interest is 23.6% compounded daily @ .06448%. I earn above 45,000 annually and my wife makes around 37,000. We have never been turned into collections but they have in-house collections that are permitted to do illegal actions like leave messages about your account with coworkers, hang up on you, call later than 9:00pm, constant harrassment. Meanwhile monthly payments were consistant @ 100-170/month. Still very unreasonable, they told me to be an adult and pay it in full now. Clearly the RUDEST corporation I have every delt with!
