"not worth your trouble"
After a decade of being a loyal customer with excellent credit, they decide to lower my credit limit because I made an aggressive payment. They said I had too much revolving credit on my credit report. I explained that it was AMEX card where I pay it off in full every month. Also, none of the other banks decreased my limit and they see the same consumer reporting agency reports. Clearly, BofA has credit analysts that don't know how to read between the lines. The reps are also clueless. I called to make some changes to the account and the idiot took my information to start another application process. I had to explain that I was already a cardholder. He kept calling it a UCLA Alimony Card. OMG!!! After I closed out the account, and all of my other banking relationships with them, they decide to call and apologize. Not worth the hassle. You can get better cards out there with better programs.

"Dishonest customer service reps..."
Had a problem with receiving my monthly statement only 3 days before it was due, and contacted them on several occasions. The final straw was when I called to report this same problem and the woman was blatantly rude and basically refused to assist me. I ended up speaking with a supervisor to lodge a complaint. Next statement I received contained a $165 charge for statement copies which were requested by that same woman (of which I never asked for), and found that no proper notation was made to my account history regarding any complaint or supervisor conversation. Sadly, I can no longer display my Bruin pride because I had no other choice but to cancel the card to not have to deal with the substandard customer service. They also seemed uninterested in retaining me as a customer by not researching the problem and reprimanding the woman.

"Support your school with credit."
The MBNA Visa card is very convenient in that it has online access, which integrates well with a variety of financial software. Customer service has been excellent, and they have lowered my interest rate and raised my credit limit consistently. They are very helpful in looking into questionable charges and answering any questions you might have. The only problem I've had was when their computers went out once and I had no way of charging anything at that time.

Overall, it's a great company and a great card.

"What a rip off!!!!!"
I must admit, I was one of those poor, naive freshman who signed up for this terrible credit card in my first year of school. I suppose I was enticed by the crappy giveaway they were dolling out. Or was I just bullied into signing up by one of their cronies shouting across campus to sign up. Either way, please do not get this card. The best thing about it was a beautiful picture of Royce on the front, which I thought would be nice to have for the rest of my life so every time I'd use the card, I would be reminded of UCLA and my happy memories there. But about one month after I graduated, MBNA sends me a new card. It seems the card with Royce on it is only while you are a student, and once you graduate, they send you this terrible blank gold card which makes no reference to UCLA except a tiny notice in small print on the back of the card to visit the UCLA alumni association's website. I called MBNA and they told me once you graduate, they send you the gold card and there is no way to get the card with Royce back. That pisses me off. Now why would I want to be stuck with some faux gold card with a terribly high APR? Well, I just cancelled it.

Most attractive feature: Picture of Royce (before graduation)
Least attractive feature: High APR; pic of Royce gone after graduation

"They are irresponsible"
They set up their booths on campus and trick students, mostly freshmen, into signing up for their useless credit card. Of course it's not only their fault: UCLA's administration also loves it since MBNA pays them the some percentage which results in millions of dollars. The end result is that by second year the student is in huge debt!
I'm not their member anymore therefore I am not able to tell you exactly about their interest rates and other fees... BUT (!) I'm sure they are much higher than of industry's standards.

"Rip off"
I recently watched a TV show on how credit card banks make deals with universities. They pay millions of dollars for the right to solicit students on that campus. Plus university get some percentage of every dollar that a students spends using this card. Meanwhile most of students get into huge debts because of that. That is why I'm canceling this card and also because it doesnt have any nice benefits like other cards do. The only thing about this card that made me get it in the first place was the picture of UCLA on it. I think I'll live without it.

"GO BRUINS"
This card is from MBNA and every time you charge something, a portion of the charge goes to helping out UCLA so I would recommend it as one way to give something back to the school.
I have not had a problem that required me to call customer service so I could not comment on that. However, since I got this card for free the first year, I called up to cancel it. They were gracious enough to waive the credit card fee for another year. I guess the increasing no fee cards out there are eating into their customer base and are more willing now to bend over backwards for them.

Most attractive feature: A portion of charges go to UCLA
Least attractive feature: There is an annual fee

"This pretty card is useless"
They do not have customer service. Not at all. They dont even know what it is. I called them and machine tells me that their system is busy and just hangs up on me. I call back and get the same thing. After few calls I'm put on hold and after 20 minutes I start to speak with a woman who, seems like, just came over to US on the boat. All of a sudden, in the middle of me speaking and explaining my problem, she tells me that she has to get other call. To make this story short, a phone call and my little problem that should've taken 5 minutes took exactly an hour and a half and I had to speak to two managers. The only advantages I see about this card it that it has my university logo. Other then that it is the worst card anyone can possibly have.

"Great Credit Card"
The card is called UCLAlumni Association MBNA visa card. It is very pretty, featuring the famous Royce Hall (of UCLA). The customer service is wonderful. It is easy to raise your credit limit, and the issuer does it automatically if you are in good standing. I raised my credit limit from $1000 to $8000 within two years. The card also offers security protection. No annoying telemarketers call you and offer to sell you anything on behalf of the card; any offers come in via mail for your review.

"MBNA UCLA Alumni Card"
They offer very low interest rate for the first 6 months. They have great promotions for MCI customers. The card has a picture of the school. Great for students since the qualifications for getting the card are below those of average credit card issuers-low income will still get you the card. The customer service is good.

Most attractive feature: raise credit limit by themselves
