"good service for many years"
I'm not sure where all the people with negative experiences are coming from. I first got this card in 2004 after my checking account was closed and (unfairly IMHO) was reported to ChexSystems. WiredPlastic doesn't do personal checks but they do pretty much everything else: online bill paying, direct deposit of paychecks, ACH transfers to/from other banks, ATM transactions, VISA debit card transactions, and they will even mail paper checks to billers not listed in their database. Although you can't write personal checks, with all the services they do provide, it is rare to actually need to write a personal check. I never had a problem with the card, and in the seven years I used it, only once did I have an authorization declined that should have been approved. They are NOT a credit rebuilding company but do not pretend to be. They have fees but their fees are very reasonable. I would not describe them as customer service dynamos, but the few times I needed to reach a live human being, I was able to reach someone who spoke good English, with minimal time on hold, and was always able to find a resolution to my issue with just a single call. Even after I cleared up my ChexSystems issues, I was so happy with WiredPlastic that I saw no need to switch back to a traditional checking account. However, after seven years, I feel that I've now outgrown WiredPlastic. For one thing, I've noticed that prepaid cards are attracting a bit more suspicion in the last year--I used to be able to use my WiredPlastic to rent a car with Alamo after showing a return ticket--but no more. And the last two renewals of my WiredPlastic was only for 11 months each, which I thought a little stingy given my seven years of membership. So I've decided to return to a traditional bank account and am winding down my use of WiredPlastic. But if you are going through a financial crisis and don't have a lot of banking options--I would still recommend WiredPlastic and, IMHO, their fees will be very fair. I'm leaving them because I think traditional banking is more appropriate for me now but I have only good things to say about my years with them.

Most attractive feature: Bare bones banking services for banking-challenged at very reasonable cost

"I want the balance of the money on my card returned to me"
I cannot get the Alert1 card to work at any merchant. Except for 3 purchases months ago, the card is perpetually declined.

Plese note that I am aware that some merchants DO refuse a prepaid card.

Plus, the company charges you to speak with them about your problems with the card and the customer service rep's are needlessly rude!

The company charges a monthly fee of $4.95 which is ridiculous especially for a card that is unusable.

I want the money on my card (a measly $152.13) returned to me but that seems as if it's going to be impossible.

If someone with knowledge (a "cardoffers.com employee" or better yet, a supervisor who can actually make solid knowledgeable decisions) or some other person in my predicament who has been able to rectify such circumstances has any advice as to how I can get my balance returned from Alert1, I would be very grateful.

Thank you.

"-A has been-"
I am giving them a two ONLY because of past performance. Currently they are trying to take $200 from me.

Basically this card was great until I had to deal with customer service.

They froze my wife's account and after seven days of working with them it is apparent they are not going to unlock her account (and the $200+ on it). We have been using this card for the past 2-3 years as a 'budget' card, both of us get some money on these cards to spend between paychecks and it has worked out well. Last week my wife's card was locked without warning. When contacted they said that they needed three forms of ID and proof that we live where we do, because the transfer was through a business account. This is how this card was loaded every week. We sent this to them, they say "give us two days to process".Two days pass, still locked. This call they want proof of the business...what? First off that has nothing to do with them, but fine, we send in proof that I own the account the money was sent from (another two day wait). Now they want proof that I own the business. Really???? I am certain that a drop of blood and an eye of newt will be the next request (with a two day wait after they get it). I have seen other reviews of this companies practices and in one instance they wanted a three way call with the merchant that paid into the card!!!!! It seems that they are hoping that we will just give up at some point.

One thing to note, I think this company has been bought recently. The website changed and the card design changed. Maybe this is why older post always give great reviews and new ones seem to get worse and worse as time goes on.

The BBB suggestion is a good one. This group use to be great but no longer.

"Don't Get This Card"
If you get this card, you better pray you never need their customer service center's assistance. They are incompetent and rude. They freeze accounts randomly, and take their good old time about Unfreezing them. They charge a .95 fee every time you call, even if the call is concerning something *they* screwed up on. Zero resolution to problems. Definitely do NOT recommend.

Most attractive feature: Buddymoney transfers.
Least attractive feature: Everything else. Holds on refunds. Horrible, horrible customer service.

"Why trust a company with such a terrible BBB rating?"
These guys have a terrible BBB rating. I never thought to check this until I started having problems with customer service (not to mention the fees I get charged each time I try to talk to someone there). Why do they have to make it so difficult to get a simple answer about MY account?

I switched over to a green dot card. I'd rather trust my money to a company that actually has a BBB rating and that has call center reps who know what they are talking about. I checked out www.getdebit.com to find a company that had a good rating and, luckily, there are quite a few.

I never thought BBB was worth checking, but after this experience, I will do it more frequently

Most attractive feature: Decent fees
Least attractive feature: Bad customer service. These guys have a terrible BBB rating.

"Rewards Points system has been "
Tried to redeem points for prepaid airtime on July 24th and got an error message. Contacted Customer Service and was told that they don't have a time estimate for when it will be fixed. That was a month ago. They charge $0.95 each time you call in so they actually make money when you call in to see why the problem still isn't fixed.

08/10/2009 Fee - Call Center Customer Service Fees $-0.95
07/30/2009 Fee - Call Center Customer Service Fees $-0.95
07/29/2009 Fee - Call Center Customer Service Fees $-0.95
07/28/2009 Fee - Call Center Customer Service Fees $-0.95
07/27/2009 Fee - Call Center Customer Service Fees $-0.95

How can you offer a "Rewards" credit card when the Rewards Redemption is actually broken? Shouldn't their main website actually have a disclaimer saying that the points redemption system is actually broken and they have no idea when it will be fixed?

Most attractive feature: Easy to load via wire transfer. Send $10k and they'll apply it over 4 days at $2.5k a day
Least attractive feature: Customer Service is ridiculously poor.

"my experience with wired plastic."
I''''ve been a customer with wired plastic since January of 2007 simply because my former bank refused to issue me another debit card and I hated relying on the bank being open to get to my money. I also didn''''t like the high fees with my former bank. Things were great when I first got the card. My card was issued through centennial bank instead of bankfirst so I was one of the lucky ones and I don''''t have to pay the monthly fee like most other wired plastic customers do. I have some complaints about this card though. In July last year there were double transactions happening on my card and it resulted in me having a negative balance. It took the incompetent representatives a week to finally fix the problem. My second complaint is that when your card is nearing it''''s expiration date you will get calls from people calling with blocked numbers offering you gas cards and other things. Me being visually impaired and not being able to drive, gas cards are useless to me. So this company will give out your number without your consent. Another complaint is I had to call customer support 7 times for them to issue me a new card because they would say they placed my order but didn''''t. So I nearly ended up not being able to get to my money because of these people. My final complaint is I was suppose to move yesterday but because wired plastic wouldn''''t fax over my six month average income to the place I was moving to I had to renew my move out notice because of that. Now there is a loophole to not paying the 95 cents for calling customer service. All you have to do is press 0 right from the start menu on the phone instead of putting in the last 4 digits of card number and phone password then pressing 0 once your in your account over the phone. Yes they ask for the whole card number and other info instead of just your last 4 of the card number but hey if it saves a dollar then it''''s worth it.

Most attractive feature: Free direct deposit, Sweet benefits if you already have a prepaid phone.
Least attractive feature: Less than average customer support.

"Very Good Card"
Overall I am extremely happy with this card. I've had it for just over a year now. I love the text message alerts feature which tells me my balance every morning and notifies me every time a transaction is posted to my account (sometimes I get the text before I even finish signing my name!!). Wired Plastic also has an outstanding online banking site where I can pay most all of my monthly bills electronically. Their Customer Service Reps are always very pleasant, helpful, and informative when you call. My one BIG complaint is that they charge for more than three calls, however, the online customer service feature doesn't work so there is no alternative. I have written and called repeatedly to tell them that it doesn't work, but it still has not been fixed. The good news is that the card and service is overall so dependable that I have rarely needed to call. I have recommended this card to all my friends. Even if you already have a bank account, Wired Plastic makes a great second account, travelling card, or online shopping card.
