| "customer service response to my problem" |
| customer service response to my problem was horrible, had to call back at least 5 times over a 90 day period to finally get issue resolved. each time a promise was made and each time it was never delivered |

| "be aware that you must pay for a hotel stay even if it is unsatisfactory" |
Apparently hotel purchases made with a VISA card are not "protected" as I had always believed until I had a rude $750 awakening in September 2008. I paid for a one-month stay in advance at a hostel in Guanajauto, Mexico. When I arrived at the hostel, I was required to pay for the full one-month stay. I used a Bank of America Platinum VISA card. The very first night I discovered that the quality of the accomodations was not as advertised. There was so much noise because there was no staff on site during the night, that we could not even sleep. The next day, we asked the clerk at the hostel to cancel the charge. She could not reach the manager so declined to cancel the charge. I called Bank of America and disputed the charge. In a few days, we received credit back onto our account. We also moved to another hotel and stayed there for the next 30 nights. In September, Bank of America re-billed us for the full $754.34 and stated that we should have inspected the hostel before we paid the full month. Of course we did not know about the noisy, uncontrolled night time conditons until after we paid for the room. Bank of America stated that we would need to persuade the vendor to issue a credit. We were also informed that the bank had attempted to contact us but that we couldn''t be reached. However, there were no messages in our e-mail *or* on any of our phones. The bank did not even send a message to us through its own e-mail system on their credit card web site.
I would highly recommend that no consumer pay for an extended hotel stay until he/she has spent one night at the facility. Apparently with Bank of America and VISA, you have no recourse after the bill is paid. |
