"Don't trust these people"
I was attracted to this card because of their promise of a 5% rebate on all gas purchases made at the pump, plus a reward points system to win various gifts. Within a few months they completely did away with the reward points and basically reduced the gas rebate to 2%. When I called to inquire about this I was pretty much told that they were sorry I was upset, but that's the way it is, and if I would like to cancel they could do that. I hadn't switched my credit card provider in 20 years, in order to protect my 809 plus credit rating. After carefully studying different reward cards, I switched to the AAA Platinum Plus Card, only to have the rug pulled out from under me. I would not recommend doing business with these people.

Most attractive feature: gas rebate given at most stations
Least attractive feature: promised 5% rebates and points toward gifts, then switched

"Can't wait to cancel this card!"
Do not get this credit card, it's not worth it! As a AAA memeber, I received an offer in the mail in 2001. It looked like it was an answer to my prayers. At the time I was traveling on business to the West Coast from Texas. As a contractor, I wasn't eligible for a company credit card. I received the card with a 7.9% rate. At first everything went well and I had a backup for travel. I was using my Citibank to pay my disable mother's medical expenses.

Then the economy collasped in 2001. I spent a year unemployed and relying on credit cards to pay for all my expenses. Unfortunately, I burned through all my savings, 401k, everything, trying to take care of my mother on my own. In 2002, they begin slowly rasing the rate. It went to 15.98% and a few months later jumped to 24.98%

When I called to inquire about it, they swore their was a message about the increase had been posted on my statement the previous month. Lies!!! I spoke to some managerial type who said that if I didn't use my card, she'd reduce the rate back down to 15.98%. The reason they raised it? They weren't "sure" that I'd be able to pay it so they jacked it up to 24.98%. In other words, they wanted to ensure that I never could pay it!

Well, I'm back working contract, after another slump of 2 years of unemployment. As soon as I receive my check next month, I'm paying this card off! I can't to tell them to kiss my butt. I've been dreaming about it for 2 years.

If you want a good card, go for Citibank. I now have a Platinum Matercard. I've been with them since 1990. Never had a problem. They might not always have the lowest rate, but they won't jerk you around. They've increased my limit over $10,000 in the last 3 years. I've only seen a 1.4% increase since Greenspan raised rates. Recently, I've made huge payments, so I'm sure it will decrease once they realize I'm paying them down.

Even better, If you're lucky enough to be a member, get a USSA card. I'm down to 7.9%. Since they're a non-profit organization, they're not out to jerk you around.

"Never Again"
This is not a good card. When you pay by phone you are charged a 15.00 fee. When you pay on the web it takes 48 hours to post, not counting Saturdays and Sundays.

Most attractive feature: Can pay on the internet
Least attractive feature: 39.00 late fee, even first time

"Bait and Switch"
I had the exact same experience! I am so relieved to know that I am not alone. AAA sent me the card with a low 9.90 APR. I have paid my account on time and also paid more than the minimum due at times. I received a notice that my APR was being increased to 19.98 if I didn't reject this in writing, well I rejected it. They then sent me another notice in June or July. Well since I had already rejected it in April I didn't think I needed to reject it again. In August they increased my APR and after complaining to several customer service reps, they sent me another notice this month stating they are increasing it again if I don't reject it in writing. I am preparing to contact an attorney and of course write everyone affiliated with MBNA. I have never experienced anything like this and feel this is terrible for decent people to have to go through.

"Bait & Switch -AAA Should Take Responsibility"
Same exact problem (see previous post) Not only did they switch my 7.99% to a variable rate for no reason, change the rules for 5% gas rebate, they have also cancelled the reward points system that gave $50 certificates for every 5000 points earned. Forget the bank that offers the card - contact AAA - their name is on the card and AAA Financial Services is where we send our credit card payments. They have more at stake if they start losing their AAA members because of their association. I have several products purchased through AAA and will take my business elsewhere.
Finding the names of the executives is easy online and checking their website will show you how to contact any national AAA employee through email.

"Bait-and-switch - CANCEL YOUR CARD!"
I was solicited (by mail) last year to take an MBNA card with 7.99% fixed APR and 5% rebate on all gas purchases.

The first bait-and-switch tactic occurred a few months ago when they "revised" the gas rebate program to some ridiculously complicated new program that was not 5% but based on some formula derived from your monthly credit card usage. The net percentage for gas rebates was, of course, less than 5%.

Now, today, I received a notice about a change in interest rates on this card effective Oct 21. 2004. The fixed APR of 7.99% is now going to variable APR of 17.99%!

I thought this was a mistake, perhaps caused by a computer screwup or a mistaken late payment "black mark" on my payment history (of which there are NONE!). But no, it was an across-the-board change for all customers.

In other words, after sucking me in to a 7.99% fixed APR card they are now expecting me to stick around for a 17.99% variable APR. I will pay off the card balance tomorrow. I've already told them to cancel my account.

Coincidentally, just today I received a class action claim form for a suit against Fleet Bank (now absorbed by BofA) who pulled the same stunt in 1999, soliciting customers for a fixed low-rate APR card and then sometime later changing to variable high-rate APR arrangement. My hope is that a class action suit against MBNA will be filed and will also go through to success as the Fleet lawsuit did.

Most attractive feature: 7.99% fixed apr (supposedly), 5% gas rebate (supposedly)
Least attractive feature: bait-and-switch, changed to 17.99 variable apr, reduced gas rebate

"don't get this card.....better ones are out there."
I obtained this card last year. Since AAA is a good organization and the interest rate was good, I decided to try it. I have made every payment on time and payed off my balance in full 75 % of the time. I have two other cards besides this one and this month I decided to pay my bills via internet. It was so easy with the other two. I confirmed the transfer and both credit card bills were paid immediately. I could see the payments as soon as I made them. This is not true for this card. I went to the website and entered the information only to find out it takes two days for the payment to post. I called customer service to be told that the pay by phone feature which costs $15.00 posts the same day. My payment was due the next day so after the customer service rep assured me that a $15.00 charge was much better than a $39.00 late charge I made the payment by phone. I am amazed that as large as the MBNA company is that it takes two days to post payments....when they come directly from you to them. I asked the customer service rep why it was that the pay by phone posts the same day and the internet did not, she said she could not answer that. I believe they do this to make money......to milk unsuspecting customers out of their hard earned money. My other two cards are by Citibank and Bank One whose customer service is excellent. As soon as I payed the balance on the AAA card I called back and canceled the card all together. I refuse to do business with dishonest companies and you as a consumer should too.....

"AAA Visa Bait and Switch"
BAIT AND SWITCH ALERT
I just paid my first (and probably last) bill with these guys. We've had the card less than 2 weeks and they already dropped the gas rebate 60% from what I had signed up for. Sorry to see AAA doing business in this fashion; I just may have to give up our $112 membership with them too.
Discover, with its cash back program is my present choice for a general use credit card.

Most attractive feature: It had been the 5% gas discount until they dropped it to an effective 2% !!!!!!!
Least attractive feature: Bait and switch tactics.

"Bait and switch (okay, just bad timing by me)"
Between the time I requested this card, around 6/1 and the time I received it, they changed the terms significantly. Effective 8/1, you'll still get the 5% rebate on gas, BUT your total rebate is limited to 2%. Not good for people who only use it for gas, as I had planned. I never would have requested the card under those terms.

Most attractive feature: Gas rebate, has the one-time card number feature for web purchases
Least attractive feature: Rebate just REDUCED
